Abstract Ecofriendly ionic liquids (ILs) were synthesized through amidation of ricinoleic acid, the main fatty acid in castor oil, followed by a quaternization reaction to solubilize ethanol in IL/diesel blends at different ratios. As a result, stable and highly renewable, low viscous microemulsion biofuels with high oxygen content were prepared. The prepared fuel samples combine the advantages of green ionic liquids and microemulsion properties. The chemical structures of ILs were confirmed with the aid of NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. DLS analysis revealed that the ethanol particles ranged in size from 8 to 18.1 nm in all samples. As ILs ratios decrease in microemulsion from 37 to 69%, the ethanol particle sizes increase from 10 to 25%. Ethanol shows good solubilization in diesel and IL-1 is more effective than IL-2 in ethanol solubilization at low percentages of ethanol due to more oxygen atoms besides three hydroxyl groups. The ternary phase diagram indicated that the microemulsion area in the case of using IL-1 is larger than that of IL-2. The fuel properties of the prepared microemulsions are nearly close to those of neat diesel and fall within the permitted range of ASTM D975. The viscosity and density values at low ratios of ILs are found to be very close to the values of the neat diesel at different temperatures. The prepared samples show a slight decrease in cetane number and heating value compared to diesel. However, they have improved flash points, cloud points, sulfur content, and acid value. The particle sizes were checked every week and the prepared samples showed high stability with the aid of the synthesized ILs. Moreover, the prepared microemulsions stayed in a transparent appearance for more than a year and no phase separation was observed.

Abstract Ecofriendly and stable Fuel Microemulsions based on renewable components were prepared through solubilizing ethanol in diesel and waste cooking oil blend (4:1). New diquaternary ammonium ionic liquids (3a & 3b) were synthesized through a quaternization reaction of the synthesized dihaloester with diethyl ethanolamine tridecantrioate and triethyl amine tridecantrioate, respectively. The chemical structures were elucidated by NMR spectroscopy. It was observed from DLS analyses that the ethanol particles in all samples have sizes between 4.77 to 11.22 nm. The distribution becomes narrower with the decrease in the ionic liquid concentrations. The fuel properties fall within the ASTM D975 acceptable specifications and are close to the neat diesel properties. The Cetane index were 53 and 53.5, heating values were 38.5 and 38.5 MJ/kg, viscosities were 2.91 and 2.98 mm2/s, densities were 8.26 and 8.29 g/mL and flash points were 49 °C and 48 °C for 3a1 and 3b1 microemulsions, respectively. The particle sizes of samples were examined by DLS for 160 days and they were significantly stable. The amount of ethanol solubilized increases with the increase in the amount of the synthesized ionic liquids and cosurfactant. The combustion calculations pointed out that the microemulsions 3a1 and 3b1 need 13.07 kg air/kg fuel and 12.79 kg air/kg fuel, respectively, which are less than the air required to combust the pure diesel. According to theoretical combustion, using ionic liquids saves the air consumption required for combustion and reduces the quantities of combustion products. The prepared microemulsions were successfully used as a diesel substitute due to their improved combustion properties than pure diesel and low pollution levels.

Gliomas are a type of brain tumor that requires accurate monitoring for progression following surgery. The Brain Tumor Reporting and Data System (BT-RADS) has emerged as a potential tool for improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing the need for repeated operations. This prospective multicenter study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and reliability of BT-RADS in predicting tumor progression (TP) in postoperative glioma patients and evaluate its acceptance in clinical practice. The study enrolled patients with a history of partial or complete resection of high-grade glioma. All patients underwent two consecutive follow-up brain MRI examinations. Five neuroradiologists independently evaluated the MRI examinations using the BT-RADS. The diagnostic accuracy of the BT-RADS for predicting TP was calculated using histopathology after reoperation and clinical and imaging follow-up as reference standards. Reliability based on inter-reader agreement (IRA) was assessed using kappa statistics. Reader acceptance was evaluated using a short survey. The final analysis included 73 patients (male, 67.1%; female, 32.9%; mean age, 43.2 ± 12.9 years; age range, 31–67 years); 47.9% showed TP, and 52.1% showed no TP. According to readers, TP was observed in 25–41.7% of BT-3a, 61.5–88.9% of BT-3b, 75–90.9% of BT-3c, and 91.7–100% of BT-RADS-4. Considering >BT-RADS-3a as a cutoff value for TP, the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the BT-RADS were 68.6–85.7%, 84.2–92.1%, and 78.1–86.3%, respectively, according to the reader. The overall IRA was good (κ = 0.75) for the final BT-RADS classification and very good for detecting new lesions (κ = 0.89). The readers completely agreed with the statement “the application of the BT-RADS should be encouraged” (score = 25). The BT-RADS has good diagnostic accuracy and reliability for predicting TP in postoperative glioma patients. However, BT-RADS 3 needs further improvements to increase its diagnostic accuracy.

Abstract Background One of the drawbacks in contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging (CE-T1WI) is the enhancing cortical vessels which can be confused with meningeal enhancement. Previous studies reported that post-contrast FLAIR could be better for diagnosing the superficial brain abnormalities. So the purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of delayed post-contrast FLAIR, in comparison with post-contrast T1, in the detection and evaluation of brain metastases. Results The study was conducted on 40 patients with suspected/known brain metastases scanned in order to detect and evaluate brain metastases. All patients were subjected to the following: full history taking, review of clinical examination reports, and other imaging modalities whenever available, followed by brain MRI examination using 1.5 T closed magnet including pre-contrast series, axial and sagittal T1-weighted spin echo (SE), axial and coronal T2-weighted turbo spin echo (TSE) and axial FLAIR, while post-contrast series included axial, coronal and sagittal T1-weighted spin echo (SE) and lastly DPC-FLAIR sequence 10 min after contrast administration. This study included 18 males and 22 females, ranging in age from 26 to 75 years. Six out of a total of 40 patients had brain metastases of unknown origin, while 34 of them were presented with different types of known primary tumors. The detected lesions were subdivided into five groups according to their detectability by DPC-FLAIR and contrast-enhanced T1WI: Group (I): lesions detected only by DPC-FLAIR: 16 lesions; Group (II): lesions detected only by CE-T1WI: 1 lesion; Group (III): lesions detected by both DPC-FLAIR and CE-T1WI with equal conspicuity by both: 28 lesions; Group (IV): lesions detected by both, showing more obvious enhancement with DPC-FLAIR: 43 lesions; and Group (V): lesions detected by both, showing more obvious enhancement with CE-T1WI: 11 lesions. DPC-FLAIR had a sensitivity of 98.98% and a specificity of 100% for the detection of metastatic brain lesions and for CE-T1WI; sensitivity of 83.83%; and a specificity of 50%. Conclusions Delayed post-contrast FLAIR is a reliable sequence for the detection of metastatic brain lesions as it can detect more metastatic brain lesions compared to contrast-enhanced T1WI.

The study of fluid flow in cylindrical shapes under the effect of electric fields is of utmost importance because of its vast applications in industrial, agricultural, and biomedical domains, as well as in drilling machines, equipment, transport brakes, and vehicles. The purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of Hall impacts, slippage effects, and thermal relaxation time on the magnetohydrodynamic flow near an extended cylinder or flat plate. An assessment of entropy generation is carried out. Results are determined by the process of elongating a planar surface and a cylindrical object. The velocity field and entropy production are greater in the case of a stretched cylinder compared to a stretching flat plate. The choice of an appropriate stretching surface may have an impact on the thermal conductivity of the boundary layer. Velocity, temperature, and entropy are influenced by several factors including the Eckert number, thermal relaxation time, transverse curvature, magnetic field, Hall effect, molecular slip, and mixed convection parameters. These characteristics influence the movement of fluid, the transfer of heat, the measure of disorder (entropy), and the Bejan number. The variables mentioned cause changes in skin friction and Nusselt values. The Hall effect has advantages in reducing friction and enhancing heat transfer in industrial and technical processes. Background. The local recurrence rate of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) can be as high as 12%.The standard treatment for early-stage TNBC is breast-conserving surgery (BCS), followed by postoperative radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy. However, detection of the local recurrence of the disease after radiotherapy is a major issue. Objective. The aim of this study was at investigating the role of dynamic and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) during follow-up after BCS and radiotherapy with/without chemotherapy to differentiate between locoregional recurrence and postoperative fibrosis. Patients and Methods. This prospective study was conducted at the oncology, radiology, and pathology departments, Tanta University. It involved 50 patients with early-stage TNBC who were treated with BCS, followed by radiotherapy with/without chemotherapy. The suspected lesions were evaluated during the follow-up period by sonomammography. All patients were subjected to MRI, including conventional sequences, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and dynamic postcontrast study. Results. Ten cases were confirmed as recurrent malignant lesions. After contrast administration, they all exhibited irregular T1 hypodense lesions of variable morphology with diffusion restriction and positive enhancement. Eight cases displayed a type III curve, while two showed a type II curve. Histopathological assessment was consistent with the MRI findings in all eight cases. The combination of the data produced by DWI-MRI and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI resulted in 100%sensitivity, 92.5% specificity, 90.9% positive predictive value, 100% negative predictive value, and 98% accuracy. Conclusion. Combination of DWI-MRI and DCE-MRI could have high diagnostic value for evaluating postoperative changes in patients with TNBC after BCS, followed by radiotherapy with/without chemotherapy. Aim: The present study was performed to assess the association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP4) gene with birth weight (BW), final weight (FW), and average daily gain (ADG) in three Egyptian sheep breeds. Materials and Methods: Genomic DNA was extracted from the blood samples of 50 male and female individuals representing Ossimi, Rahmani, and Barki sheep breeds. A 407 bp nucleotide (nt) segment from the first intron of FABP4 was amplified by polymerase chain reaction, sequenced, and analyzed in the different samples. Results: Sequence analysis of the determined segment (407 bp) revealed four SNPs (all transition types) at nt position 372 (CP011894.1:g.57605471) A>G, nt position 211 (CP011894.1:g.57605632) A>G, nt position 143 (CP011894.1:g.57605700) T>C, and nt position 111 (CP011894.1:g.57605732) T>C. The allelic and genotypic frequencies for the identified SNPs in the sheep breeds were calculated. At nt positions 372 and 211, two alleles were identified (A and G). Only two genotypes were present at nt position 372 (AA and AG), while three genotypes were present at nt position 211 (AA, AG, and GG). Two alleles (T and C) and three identified genotypes (TT, TC, and CC) were detected at nt positions 143 and 111. Analysis of the results revealed that AA genotype at nt position 372 is associated with higher estimates for BW, FW, and ADG when compared to all the other genotypes. Very high correlation coefficients were found between the genotypes 143-TT and 111-TT and also between 143-TC and 111-TC. The genotypes 372-AG, 211-GG, 211-AA, 143-TT, 143-CC, 111-TT, 111-TC, and 111-CC were associated with negative effects on BW, FW, and ADG. Conclusion: The detection of four SNPs in a partial sequence of the Egyptian ovine FABP4 gene intron 1 reflected that this gene harbors substantial diversity. In addition, a novel SNP at nt position 372 (CP011894.1:g.57605471) A>G was associated with higher estimates for BW, FW, and ADG.

Fractionation of the stem bark of Enantia chlorantha Oliv yields three alkaloids, palmatine (1), jatrorrhizine (2), columbamine (3), and β-Sitosterol (4). In this investigation, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to evaluate the electronic structure and properties of 1–4 by DFT-B3LYP/6-31G level of theory using Gaussian 09 software. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO), HOMO-LUMO energy difference (band gap), hardness (η), softness (S), dipole moment (μ), electronegativity (χ), hydrophobicity (logP), topological surface area (TPSA), and energy gap (Eg) were calculated. The in vitro cytotoxicity of the compounds was investigated against MCF-7 and HCT116 cancer cell lines using Wi-38 cells as a control. The compounds inhibited the proliferation of the MCF-7 and HCT116 cell lines and induced apoptosis via upregulation of caspase-3, Bax, PARP cleavage, and downregulation of Bcl-2. DFT analyses revealed that compounds 1 and 3 have smaller energy gaps, 0.072 and 0.071eV, respectively, with the highest dipole moments; hence, these compounds are more chemically reactive and exhibit better modulation of caspase-3 enzyme and inhibitory activities of the MCF-3 and HCT116 cell lines. The antimicrobial and antiparasitic evaluation of 1–4 showed moderate efficacy against the bacterial strains and moderate antiparasitic activity against Cichlidogyrus tilapia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objectives were to evaluate polymorphism in ten microsatellite markers and to demonstrate their association with milk production traits in the Egyptian buffaloes, based on the cross-species transferability of microsatellites from cattle to buffalo. A total of 17 439 daily milk records from the first five lactations were subjected to analyses, in which records from 5 to 290 days in milk were only included. The analysis revealed that eight out of the ten bovine markers analyzed were polymorphic. The means of the number of alleles, effective number of alleles, and fixation index within markers were 4.125, 2.479, and 0.062, respectively. The means of the observed and expected heterozygosity were 0.491 and 0.527 per marker, respectively. The eight polymorphic microsatellites (BM1706, BMS711, BM143, BM415, BM6438, ETH131, BM1443, ETH2) showed significant (P < 0.001) associations with average daily milk yield deviation. Protein percentage was significantly associated with microsatellites BM6438 (P < 0.01) and ETH131 (P < 0.001). Only marker BM415 had a significant (P < 0.05) influence on protein yield. None of the analyzed markers revealed significant effect on fat yield and percentage. The results obtained support future application of the polymorphic microsatellites for detailed studies of the Egyptian buffalo genome.

The aim of this retrospective study was to highlight the imaging findings of groove pancreatitis (GP) as well as its management. Patients and methods: 16 patients diagnosed to have GP were enrolled in this work. The included patients had complete records of the thorough clinical examination and laboratory workup. All patients had been examined by multi-phase contrast enhanced MDCT tailored for pancreatic imaging. Six of these patients were additionally examined by MRI including MRCP., Results: MDCT Multiple detector computed tomography of the 16 patients revealedthe following: (1) a hypodense sheet in the pancreaticoduodenal (PD) groove seen in 12 patients with mild enhancement in the delayed phase seen in 6 of the them; (2) Duodenal wall thickening was seen in 10 patients while (3) associated cysts within the duodenal wall or in PD groove were seen in 6 patients; (4) and pancreatic head enlargement in 8 patients. MRI of Six patients revealedthe following: (1) a T1 hypointense and T2 iso to hyperintense sheet at the PD groove in 4 patients with delayed enhancement in 3 of them; (2) Duodenal wall thickening with T2 high signal was seen in 6 patients while associated cysts within the duodenal wall were seen in 4 patients; (3) Pancreatic head enlargement seen in 4 patients; The MRCP of these patients showed dilated CBD with distal tapering and a distance separating its end from the duodenal wall. Conclusion: GP is a disease that should be considered in the list of differential diagnosis of masses implicating the pancreatic head and medial duodenal wall. Imaging findings that are suggestive of GP include chronic inflammatory changes with fibrosis in the PD groove with or without implication of the nearby head of the pancreas, duodenal medial mural thickening with luminal stenosis and cysts at the PD groove or within the duodenal wall. Vascular invasion is a sign against diagnosis of GP.

Background: The prone position is commonly required to enable surgical access during lumbar spine surgery. When a patient moves into the prone position, inferior vena cava obstruction causes reduced venous return and increase thoracic pressure results in reduced left ventricular compliance, leading to a decreased cardiac index (CI). Aim of the Work: The aim of this study, we will compare the effects of the VCV and PCV on peak airway pressure (P peak), ETCO2 as a primary outcome ABG, SPO2, and hemodynamics as MAP, HR and as a secondary outcome in the prone position. Patients and Methods: This prospective, single blinded study included 60 patients who assigned randomly into two equal groups: group A: patients on volume-controlled ventilation mode VCV and group B: patients on pressure-controlled ventilation mode PCV. Results: Baseline characteristics (age, sex, BMI, ASA physical status, duration of anesthesia and surgery) were insignificantly different between both groups. Heart rate and MAP at supine and prone positions at all time measurements were insignificantly different between both groups. P peak and SpO2 at supine and prone positions at all time measurements were insignificantly different between both groups. Respiratory rate and ETCO2 at supine and prone positions at all time measurements were insignificantly different between both groups. Conclusion: No significant difference between two modes of ventilation VCV and PCV in patients undergoing lumbar spine surgery in the prone position as regard P peak, ETCO2, SPO2, and hemodynamics.
