The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the value of hepcidin detected in healthy dogs and also to investigate the values of some inflammatory mediators and hepcidin released during the treatment in dogs with parvoviral gastroenteritis. In this study, 20 puppies with parvoviral gastroenteritis, and 15 healthy puppies were used. Dogs in study group were classified as septic after serological confirmation of infection and showing two of sepsis criteria. Serum levels of tumor necrosis factor, interleukin -6, interleukin- 1, serum amyloid A, C reactive protein, haptoglobin, hepcidin and iron were determined in both groups. At the 3rd, 7th, and 14th days of the treatment, blood samples were taken again, and compared with the day 0. Died dogs were examined with cytokines, acute phase proteins and hepcidin by immunohistochemical methods in liver and intestine samples. Hepcidin, TNF, IL-1, IL-6, SAA, Hp and CRP levels were increased significantly compared with in control animals, while their levels were decreased significantly during treatment. For the first time, hepcidin levels in healthy dogs and dogs with sepsis were determined and hepcidin levels were monitored during treatment. Objective. In this study, it was aimed to compare the effectiveness of Hydroxyethyl Starch (HTS), HTS +7.2% NaCl combination and Ringer Lactate solutions in the treatment of hypovolemic calves with diarrhea. Materials and methods. A total of 21 holstein calves (12 female, 9 male, weighted 28-52 kg), at the age of 0-30 days, were enrolled in the present study. The calves were randomly divided into 3 groups. Calves in the first group received HTS (10 mL / kg), calves in the second group received Hydroxyethyl starch + 7.2% NaCl combination (4 mL/kg) and calves in the third group were treated with lactated Ringer's solution (32 mL/kg) intravenously. Calves in each group were administered with oral rehydration solution immediately, and at 8th and 16th hours after intravenous applications. Clinical examinations and laboratory findings were obtained at 0 hour, 30th minutes, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 12th and 24th hours respectively. Results. Calves in all groups achieved clinical remission with a positive response to treatment and there was no statistically significant difference in the vast majority of the variables examined, although dehydration, capillary refill time, mental status and pulse quality were better in hydroxyethyl starch group and especially in hydroxyethyl starch + 7.2% NaCl group than those of Ringer's lactate group (p<0.05). Conclusions. In the present study, treatment of hypovolemic calves with diarrhea especially with Hydroxyethyl starch and Hydroxyethyl starch + 7.2% NaCl combination along with oral fluid therapy with the electrolyte solution was considered to be practical and effective. Intestinal lymphangiectasia occurs as a result of obstruction or dysfunction of intestinal lymphatic circulation and characterized by hypoproteinemia. In this case report intestinal lymphangiectasia identified in a 4-year old female Setter breed dog with the complaints of chronic diarrhoea and weight loss. Lymphopenia together with hypoproteinemia and hypocholesterolemia was detected in the haematological and biochemical analysis. Although the dog did not respond to the symptomatic and supportive treatment and died 2 months after the treatment started. As a result, this case has shown that intestinal lymphangiectasia should be considered in dogs in the diagnosis of diseases associated with chronic diarrhoea however, it was concluded that especially in cases of delayed diagnosis and treatment, the prognosis could be worse. Both cattle and dogs were examined in modern and rural dairy farms that had a history of abortion over 5%. The blood samples were collected from 427 aborted cattle and the sera were tested using a commercial ELISA test kit. Additionally, a necropsy procedure was carried out on the fetuses and calves dead within 2 months after birth; the tissue samples were evaluated by histopathologic, immunoperoxidase, and PCR techniques. Eighteen dogs in close contact with the cattle in the same field were included in the study and blood and feces samples were collected. The feces samples were analyzed by copro-PCR and the sera were tested by indirect fluorescent antibody test. As a result, 161 out of 427 sera samples (37.7%) were found positive for N. caninum. In cattle, the lowest seropositivity was 6.7% and the highest seropositivity was 74.24%. Neosporosis seroprevalence in integrated holdings was lower than those of rural dairy cattle facilities (66.7%). The seropositivity for N. caninum in dogs was determined as 72.7% in rural holdings and 28.6% in integrated holdings. According to the risk analysis, N. caninum-seropositive cows had greater exposure to N. caninum-seropositive dogs in rural family holdings and integrated holdings (P = 0.054, odds ratio = 0.929; and P= 0.008, odds ratio = 0.986, respectively). An 11-year old cat presented to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital in Mehmet Akif Ersoy University from a farm in Burdur province. She presented fever, lethargy, icteric mucous membrans, abdominal bloating and anorexia. An Ehrlichia canis infection was confirmed by blood smear and indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFAT) method. At the examination of blood smear marked anemia and anisocytosis were observed in erythrocytes. Ehrlichia spp. morulae stage were observed in cytoplasm of neutrophils. Blood samples were taken from cat for haematological and biochemical analysis. The cat was treated with doxycycline and recovered rapidly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
