The purpose of the current study is to examine the effect of adapting the engineering design process to robotic coding, STEM, and the nature of science applications on teachers' self-efficacy towards engineering education and attitudes towards robotic coding. A weak experimental design with a single-group pre-test and post-test, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The sample of the study consists of 20 science teachers from all over Turkey who meet the application requirements within the scope of the project 2237 supported by TÜBITAK and working in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. The sample was determined using the purposive sampling method. In this study, teachers were given theoretical and practical training on engineering design process-based STEM, robotic coding, and the nature of science for a total of 36 hours over one week. Quantitative data were analyzed using dependent groups t-test and correlation analysis in the SPSS 23 program. They evaluated their ability to apply these activities in their classes. As a result of the analysis of the quantitative data of the study, it was observed that their self-efficacy towards engineering education and attitudes towards the use of robotic coding in the class showed a positive increase.

Inherited peripheral neuropathies (IPNs) are a group of diseases associated with mutations in various genes with fundamental roles in the development and function of peripheral nerves. Over the past 10 years, significant advances in identifying molecular disease mechanisms underlying axonal and myelin degeneration, acquired from cellular biology studies and transgenic fly and rodent models, have facilitated the development of promising treatment strategies. However, no clinical treatment has emerged to date. This lack of treatment highlights the urgent need for more biologically and clinically relevant models recapitulating IPNs. For both neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases, patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are a particularly powerful platform for disease modeling and preclinical studies. In this review, we provide an update on different in vitro human cellular IPN models, including traditional two-dimensional monoculture iPSC derivatives, and recent advances in more complex human iPSC-based systems using microfluidic chips, organoids, and assembloids.

The Strongyloides genus of parasitic nematodes have a fascinating life cycle and biology, but are also important pathogens of people and a World Health Organization-defined neglected tropical disease. Here, a community of Strongyloides researchers have posed thirteen major questions about Strongyloides biology and infection that sets a Strongyloides research agenda for the future. Life-threatening "breakthrough" cases of critical COVID-19 are attributed to poor or waning antibody (Ab) response to SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in individuals already at risk. Preexisting auto-Abs neutralizing type I IFNs underlie at least 15% of critical COVID-19 pneumonia cases in unvaccinated individuals; their contribution to hypoxemic breakthrough cases in vaccinated people is unknown. We studied a cohort of 48 individuals (aged 20 to 86 years) who received two doses of a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine and developed a breakthrough infection with hypoxemic COVID-19 pneumonia 2 weeks to 4 months later. Ab levels to the vaccine, neutralization of the virus, and auto-Abs to type I IFNs were measured in the plasma. Forty-two individuals had no known deficiency of B cell immunity and a normal Ab response to the vaccine. Among them, 10 (24%) had auto-Abs neutralizing type I IFNs (aged 43 to 86 years). Eight of these 10 patients had auto-Abs neutralizing both IFN-α2 and IFN-ω, whereas two neutralized IFN-ω only. No patient neutralized IFN-β. Seven neutralized type I IFNs at 10 ng/ml and three at 100 pg/ml only. Seven patients neutralized SARS-CoV-2 D614G and Delta efficiently, whereas one patient neutralized Delta slightly less efficiently. Two of the three patients neutralizing only type I IFNs at 100 pg/ml neutralized both D614G and Delta less efficiently. Despite two mRNA vaccine inoculations and the presence of circulating Abs capable of neutralizing SARS-CoV-2, auto-Abs neutralizing type I IFNs may underlie a notable proportion of hypoxemic COVID-19 pneumonia cases, highlighting the importance of this particularly vulnerable population.

Background/Aims: Pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI) is a prevalent disease that is often underdiagnosed and undertreated, leading to resulting in diminished health-related quality of life. The PEI questionnaire (PEI-Q), a patient-reported outcome questionnaire developed to diagnose and evaluate PEI, is available only in English. The study aimed to provide a Turkish translation of PEI-Q and validate its reliability and diagnostic performance in a Turkish-speaking population with PEI. Materials and Methods: This study included 161 participants: 98 patients with PEI and 63 healthy controls. Participants underwent the PEI-Q test, and the results were statistically analyzed for reliability and validity. The diagnostic value of PEI-Q was determined using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Cronbach’s alpha was used to assess internal consistency, while exploratory factor analysis was performed to determine construct validity and reveal the factor structure. Results: The mean age of participants was 45.0 years, and 60.2% were male. Participants with PEI were significantly older than those without. Scores for abdominal, bowel movement, and total symptoms were significantly higher in patients with PEI than in controls. ROC analysis revealed good diagnostic value for PEI-Q, with areas under the curve ranging from 0.798 to 0.851 for different symptom scores. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were above 0.70, indicating good internal consistency, and exploratory factor analysis supported a 4-factor structure, accounting for 68.9% of the total variance. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the PEI-Q is a reliable, easy-to-use, and valid screening tool for diagnosing PEI. It consistently assesses symptoms and quality of life in patients with PEI, helping to inform diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract Identifying and managing the most critical side effects encourages patients to take medications regularly and adhere to the course of treatment. Therefore, priority should be given to the more important ones, among these side effects. However, the number of studies that make a priority examination is limited. There is a need for a new study that determines which of these effects are more priority to increase the quality of the treatment. Accordingly, this study aims to define the most important side effects of antidepressant drugs with a novel model. Quantum Spherical fuzzy M-SWARA technique is considered to compute the importance weights of the items. The main contribution of this study is that the most critical side effects can be understood for antidepressant drugs by establishing a novel decision-making model. The findings demonstrate that psychological side effects are defined as the most critical side effects of antidepressant drugs. Furthermore, physical side effects also play a key role in this condition. Side effects in antidepressant treatment have a great impact on the effectiveness of treatment and patient compliance.

It is inevitable to see changes in physical fitness parameters with age. This study compares the physical fitness parameters, body composition, laxity, balance, proprioception, and muscle strength between different age groups. The study comprised 44 individuals in good health, divided into two age groups: 20-39 and 40-65.Body composition was measured with Tanita BC 418; balance was measured with a Biodex Biosway stabilometer device, and laxity was measured with a GNRB knee arthrometer. The isokinetic system (Cybex NORM, Humac, CA, USA) was used for strength and proprioception measurements. Anteroposterior, mediolateral, and overall stability index among the balance parameters between the two groups was significant. Among the groups, a statistically significant difference was observed in terms of body mass index (BMI), total body fat ratio, trunk fat ratio, and dominant leg fat ratio (p 0.05).With increasing age, it is essential to be aware of the negatively changing body composition and deteriorating balance and encourage participation in physical activity and exercise to prevent physical fitness loss, especially from 40.

Automatic speech recognition (ASR), powered by deep learning techniques, is crucial for enhancing humancomputer interaction. However, its full potential remains unrealized in diverse real-world environments, with challenges such as dialects, accents, and domain-specific jargon, particularly in fields like surgery, persisting. Here, we investigate the potential of large language models (LLMs) as error correction modules for ASR.We leverage Whisper-medium or ASRLibriSpeech for speech recognition, and GPT-3.5 or GPT-4 for error correction.We employ various prompting methods, from zero-shot to few-shot with leading questions and sample medical terms to correct wrong transcriptions. Results, measured by word error rate (WER), reveal Whisper’s superior transcription accuracy over ASR-LibriSpeech, with a WER of 11.93% compared to 32.09%. GPT-3.5, with the few-shot with medical terms prompting method, further enhances performance, achieving a 64.29% and 37.83% WER-reduction for Whisper and ASR-LibriSpeech, respectively. Additionally, Whisper exhibits faster execution speed. Substituting GPT-3.5 with GPT- 4 further enhances transcription accuracy. Despite some few challenges, our approach demonstrates the potential of leveraging domain-specific knowledge through LLM prompting for accurate transcription, particularly in sophisticated domains like surgery.

Abstract Introduction In reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) new designs enable greater amounts of lateralization to prevent instability and scapular notching and increase range of motion, however, excessive lateralization leads to stress upon the acromion that can result in scapular spine fatigue fractures. Aim of this study was to gender- and size-specifically assess the influence of glenosphere size and different humeral designs on lateralization, distalization, and bony impingement-free range of motion (ROM) in patients undergoing RSA. Methods Computed tomography scans from 30 osteoarthritic patients (f:15, m:15) and 20 cuff tear arthropathy patients (f:10, m:10) were used to virtually simulate RSA implantation. The efficacy of an inlay Grammont-type system vs. an onlay lateralizing system combined with different glenosphere sizes (36 mm vs. 42 mm) in achieving ROM, lateralization, and distalization was evaluated. Moreover, gender and patient’s constitution were correlated to humeral size by radiologically measuring the best-fit circle of the humeral head. Results A different amount of relative lateralization was achieved in both genders using large glenospheres and onlay designs. Latter yielded a higher ROM in all planes for men and women with a 42 mm glenosphere; with the 36 mm glenosphere, an increased ROM was observed only in men. The 155° inlay design led to joint medialization only in men, whereas all designs led to lateralization in women. When adjusting the absolute amount of lateralization to humerus’ size (or patient’s height), regardless of implant type, women received greater relative lateralization using 36 mm glenosphere (inlay: 1%; onlay 12%) than men with 42 mm glenosphere (inlay: -3%; onlay: 8%). Conclusion The relative lateralization achieved using onlay design is much higher in women than men. Small glenospheres yield greater relative lateralization in women compared to large glenospheres in men. Humeral lateralization using onlay designs should be used cautiously in women, as they lead to great relative lateralization increasing stress onto the acromion. Background/Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of cell block (CB) and liquid-based cytology (LBC) for endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) in pancreatic tumors. Materials and Methods: The study included patients who underwent EUS-FNA for pancreatic tumors between January 2015 and February 2021 and whose cytology samples were both processed for LBC and CB. Results: Data of 390 patients (220 men, mean age: 64.2 ± 11.4 years) were retrospectively analyzed. Of the detected lesions (size: 17-120 mm; mean: 39.9 ± 13.9 mm), 220 (56.4%) were located in the head and uncinate process of the pancreas. Lesions in 339 (86.9%) patients were diagnosed as malignant using CB and/or LBC and suspicious for malignancy in 44 (11.3%) patients. In 7 patients with non-diagnostic (6 cases) or negative for malignancy (1 case) EUS-FNA results using both methods, the diagnosis of malignancy was established via ultrasound-guided percutaneous biopsy. Malignancy was detected in 324 (92.4%), 313 (87.9%), and 298 (87.9%) patients using CB, LBC, and both CB and LBC, respectively. Final diagnosis was obtained in 339 (98%) patients by using CB and/or LBC. The combined use of the both methods exhibited significantly superior diagnostic accuracy compared with CB and LBC alone (P < .001). Conclusion: Liquid-based cytology and CB exhibit high diagnostic accuracy for the detection of pancreatic tumors in patients undergoing EUS-FNA. The combined use of both methods showed a significantly higher diagnostic accuracy than LBC and CB alone.

Complementary and integrative therapies have been used since the beginning of mankind. Their use has increased especially since the mid-20th century. In parallel to the development in diagnosis, treatment, and care, patients also want to be more involved in their treatments and are more inclined to prefer methods that alleviate their complaints. Reasons such as extended life expectancy, increase in degenerative and malign diseases, high costs of modern treatment methods, patients wanting to feel better psychologically, and symptom management have also led people to choose complementary and integrative medicine. In particular, the interest of women in these therapies has significantly increased. Women are more interested in these therapies because they have a wide range of gender-specific health issues, from premenstrual syndrome to dysmenorrhea, from infertility to pregnancy symptoms, and from postpartum depression to postmenopausal vasomotor symptoms. In their quest to find solutions to their problems, women have become more inclined to use complementary and integrative medicine. Nurses are aware of have knowledge and can evaluate complementary and integrative medicine to protect and improve women’s health. This study presents a current literature review to evaluate the use of complementary and integrative medicine in women’s health.

There are conflicting reports not only on the effect of scientific inquiry on academic achievement but also insufficient evidence on the relationship between understanding the nature of scientific inquiry and academic achievement; more generalizable studies are needed. The purpose of this large sampled study was to investigate the middle school graduates' understandings of scientific inquiry (SI) and the relationship between students' understandings of SI and academic achievement. The sample of the study (X = 3067) was selected by purposeful and layered-sampling techniques among ninth grade students studying at high schools with different orientations in Istanbul. Descriptive and inferential statistical approaches were used in the data analysis procedure. The students' academic achievement was operationally defined as the scores they received in the High School Entrance Exam (HEE). Views about scientific inquiry scale was applied to determine the participants' understandings about scientific inquiry. The data were collected in the first 2 weeks of the first semester of high school in accordance with the purpose of the study. The results of the study revealed that middle school graduates generally do not have adequate understandings of SI. Furthermore, according to the findings except for the "conclusion data conformity" aspect, there are statistically significant correlations between students' academic achievement and understandings in all aspects of SI.

Despite the recognized positive effects attributed to outdoor adventure education programs, few studies have examined the mechanisms involved therein, particularly with regard to factors that influence group process. The purpose of this qualitative research was to examine an outdoor adventure education program utilizing Yalom's helping factors in relationship to established groupwork intervention stages. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 23 individuals who participated in an 18-day outdoor adventure expedition. Findings shared include the conditions and group stages that helping factors emerge and suggest the relevance of offering adventure-based programs in nature settings for effective groupwork.

Children and youth in contemporary western society spend less time outdoors compared to previous generations. Increased use of technology, lack of green space, and concerns for risk and safety have contributed to a generation of children spending too much time indoors. A disconnection between children and nature has occurred. Our team conducted a research synthesis review of several empirically defined non-traditional literacies (physical literacy, media literacy, health literacy, nutrition literacy, and ecological literacy) to identify common components used to conceptualize, define, and describe a new nature-based literacy. Findings included four common components: (a) Motivation, (b) Knowledge, (c) Competence, and (d) Confidence. Operationalizing nature-based literacy into a set of capability domains are described as a practical way of re-engaging children and youth with the natural world. Recommendations for future research and practice are shared.

Background/aimsTo investigate the factors associated with choroidal microvasculature drop-out (MvD) enlargement detected by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) in glaucomatous eyes.MethodsNinety-one eyes of 68 primary open-angle glaucoma patients were enrolled. Only eyes with a minimum of four good quality OCT-A and OCT scans of the optic nerve head acquired at least and with a minimum of 2 years follow-up were included. Area and angular circumference of MvD were analysed on en face images. Univariable and multivariable mixed effects models were constructed to identify the factors contributing to MvD area and angular circumference change over time.ResultsPeripapillary MvD was detected in 53 (58.2%) eyes at baseline and in an additional 17 (18.6%) eyes during follow-up, whereas MvD was not detected in 21 (23.0 %) eyes during the entire follow-up period. In multivariable analysis, worse baseline visual field (VF) mean deviation (MD) (ß=0.27, 95% CI 0.10 to 0.44, p=0.002), greater intraocular pressure (IOP) fluctuations (ß=0.86, 95% CI 0.24 to 1.48, p=0.007), higher peak IOP (ß=0.17, 95% CI -0.01 to 0.35, p=0.067) and greater number of IOP lowering medications (ß=1.36, 95% CI 0.67 to 2.05, p
