Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) prophylaxis during chemoimmunotherapy with carboplatin plus etoposide and atezolizumab in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC). Methods: This retrospective, multicenter study enrolled ES-SCLC patients receiving carboplatin plus etoposide and atezolizumab, categorized into G-CSF and non-G-CSF groups. Demographic and disease-related data were collected. Response rates, progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and toxicity were analyzed. Results: Of 119 patients (median age: 63 years), the overall response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were 72.3% and 81.5%, respectively. In the G-CSF group, the ORR was 76.4% compared to 60.0% in the non-G-CSF group (p = 0.33), and the DCR was 85.4% versus 70.0%, respectively (p = 0.46). Median PFS was 8.3 months (95% CI, 6.8–9.8) in the G-CSF group and 6.8 months (95% CI, 6.2–7.5) in the non-G-CSF group (p = 0.24). Median OS was 13.8 months (95% CI, 9.6–18.1) for the G-CSF group and 10.6 months (95% CI, 7.9–13.3) for the non-G-CSF group (p = 0.47). Grade 3 ≥ adverse events were similar between groups (49.4% vs. 33.3%, respectively, p = 0.12). Conclusion: G-CSF prophylaxis can be safely used in ES-SCLC patients undergoing carboplatin plus etoposide and atezolizumab regimen without significantly altering efficacy or increasing toxicity. Objective: Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequent cancer among women. Many BC patients suffer from sleep problems, which have a negative impact on their quality of life (QoL). Our study aims to investigate sleep problems in BC patients treated with active chemotherapy or in remission in comparison with a healthy control group (HCG), given the importance of sleep disorders and QoL. Materials and Methods: A multicenter, cross-sectional study was conducted. Four different surveys including sociodemographic characteristics questionnaire, Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), hospital anxiety and depression scale and The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer core quality of life questionnaire (QLQ-C30) were used to collect study parameters. Results: Of 164 participants, the mean age was 42.0±11.7 years. Overall PSQI median score for all participants was 6 points (range, 3-9 points). PSQI median value was higher in cancer patients compared to the control group, which were 6 points (range, 4-9 points), and 4 points (range, 3-7 points), respectively (p=0.004). The mean depression score was 5 points (range, 3-8 points) in BC patients, and 4 points (range, 2-6 points) in HCGs, respectively (p=0.025). Having BC diagnosis was an independent factor increasing the risk of bad sleep quality in compared to healthy controls (odds ratio: 2.568, 95% confidence interval: 1.169-5.645; p=0.019). Conclusion: There was a close association between poor sleep quality, depression and QoL scores in patients with BC. Cancer screening programs are carried out worldwide and in our country to diagnose breast cancer in its early stage, before the disease shows any symptoms. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of non-physician healthcare professionals about breast cancer screening programs. This study was planned as a cross-sectional survey study, nurses and female non-physician hospital staff from different professions were included. In addition to primary demographic data, various questions were asked to the participants to evaluate their knowledge about breast cancer screening programs and compliance with breast cancer screening programs, and then the data were analyzed. A total of 332 volunteers were included in our study. 317 (95.5%) of them stated that they had heard of the Cancer Early Diagnosis, Screening, and Education Centers (KETEM) before. When asked whether cancer screenings were essential, 327 (98.5%) of the volunteers answered "Yes," considering it is essential, and thus it was thought that non-physician healthcare professionals had a high awareness of this issue. Fifty (15.1%) of the non-physician healthcare professionals stated that they regularly performed breast self-exams once a month, 83 (25.0%) did not do any breast examination, and 154 (46.4%) did it sporadically. Of the population, 66 people were 40 years and older. In this population, 33 (50.0%) of the participants answered "Yes" to the question "Have you ever had a mammogram?"; whereas 33 (50.0%) of them answered "No." In general, the awareness of the participants was high, but it was thought that their level of knowledge about breast cancer screening was insufficient. In addition, it was observed that the compliance rates to cancer screening programs were insufficient. Objectives: Simple, cheap, and effective methods in predicting the prognosis of patients with metastatic gastric cancer (mGC) are still lacking. We aim to investigate whether the systemic immune-index (SII) and pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) have a prognostic significance in patients with mGC. Methods: Patients diagnosed with pathological confirmed mGC were included and survival outcomes were evaluated. SII and PIV were calculated with the formula platelet count x neutrophil count/lymphocyte count and platelet count x neutrophil count x monocyte count/lymphocyte count, retrospectively. Cutoff values of SII (low, <730; high, ≥730) and PIV (low, <390; high, ≥390) were determined according to the previous studies. Results: A total of 60 patients were included the study. The median duration of follow-up was 9.0 (range: 3.0-47) months. Median progression-free survival (PFS) was found 8.2 (95%Confidence Intervals [CI]: 4.5-11.9) months and 6.1 (95% CI: 4.5-7.6) months for SII-low and SII-high groups, retrospectively (p:0.016). Median PFS was 8.2 (95% CI: 5.1-11.3) months in the PIV-low group and 5.6 (95% CI: 4.0-7.2) months in the PIV-high group (p:0.037). Multivariate Cox regression analysis was performed and high-SII was the only independent prognostic factor affecting PFS in a patient with mGC. Conclusion: SII is a simple, cheap, and useful marker and it may be used in routine clinical practice to predict the prognosis for patients with mGC if validated with prospective studies. Objectives: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is one of the cancers with the worst prognosis in the world. Despite protooncogenes such as BRCA and PALB2, effective, inexpensive, and simple methods for predicting the prognosis of patients with metastatic PC are still lacking. We aim to investigate whether mean platelet volume/platelet (MPV/PLT) and platelet indices such as MPV and plateletcrit (PCT) have a prognostic significance in patients with metastatic PC. Methods: Patients diagnosed with metastatic PC in 3 centers in Turkey between 2016 and 2022 were analyzed retrospectively. We recorded patient's demographic data such as age, gender, performance status and platelet, MPV and PCT. Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were also recorded. There were 80 patients in our study. Results: Median PFS was found 6.2 months for MPV/PLT ratio <0.045 group and 6.3 months for MPV/PLT ratio >0.045 group retrospectively. The median PFS of the MPV/PLT ratio =0.045 groupwas shorter than MPV/PLT ratio >0.045 group, but there wasn't statistically meaningful difference between the groups (p:0,957). Median OS for the MPV/PLT ratio =0.045 groupwas 10.1 months and the MPV/PLT ratio for the >0.045 group was 9 months, but there wasn't statistically significant difference between the groups (p:0.506). There was nosurvival difference between the groups when comparing both MPV and PCT status. Conclusion: MPV/PLT ratio is a cheap, simple and useful marker and can be used in our daily practice to predict the prognosis of patients with advanced PC, if confirmed by prospective studies and larger patient numbers. Introduction: Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women worldwide. Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are effective treatment options for both early-stage and advanced hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. Because of AIs are used long term in adjuvant therapy, side effects are also very important. It is considered that AIs may affect cognitive functions by decreasing the level of estrogen in the brain. The purpose of our study is that evaluate the relationship between duration of treatment and cognitive functions in patients with breast cancer who use AIs in adjuvant therapy. Methods: Two-hundred patients diagnosed with breast cancer who were treated with AIs as adjuvant treatment were included. The patients were surveyed for demographic characteristics. Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Standardized Mini-Mental State Examination (SMMT) tests were performed to evaluate patients' cognitive functions. The total scores of the tests and the orientation, short-time memory, visuospatial functions, attention, language, executive functions which are the MoCA subscales were evaluated separately. Patients were grouped as 0-6, 6-12, 12-24, 24-36, 36, and more months according to the duration of AIs using time. Results: The total MoCA and SMMT scores were affected by factors such as age, education level, and employment status. There was no relationship between duration of treatment and cognitive functions in patients with breast cancer who use AIs in adjuvant therapy (P > 0.05). In addition, no statistically relationship was found in the evaluation of MoCA subscales (P > 0.05). Discussion: Prolonged adjuvant treatment with AIs does not affect cognitive functions in hormone receptor-positive breast cancer patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Venous thromboembolism which consists of pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis is one of the most important problems in cancer patients. The mechanisms of cancer-associated thrombosis are multi-factorial and still unclear. Nutrition is an important factor in the treatment and prognosis of cancer. Assessment of the nutritional status of cancer patients is multifactorial and it should be performed at each visit. We aimed to assess the relationship between nutritional status and thrombosis risk in various cancer types. It was a cross-sectional and single-center study and 582 cancer patients were included. Patients nutritional status was evaluated with their height, weight, BMI, triceps skinfold thickness, waist circumference, and upper arm circumference. It was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between the thrombosis risk and nutritional parameters such as weight, BMI, and waist circumference which are important anthropometric measurements. As a result, thrombosis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in cancer patients. Obesity and cachexia are both important conditions in cancer patients and should be well evaluated. It has been shown that increased weight, BMI, and waist circumference indicating obesity are important risk factors for thrombosis risk in cancer patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the last years, Fluent and OpenFoam are the two most reliable CFD software used in simulations of different flow fields in both academic and industry. In this study, the performance of these two CFD simulation software relative to each other was determined for the same boundary conditions for a selected flow area. The highlight of OpenFoam CFD software is that it is free software with open source. In this context, our primary goal is to lead the spread of open-source and free software in the implementation of engineering processes in our country. As the flow area, an airfoil with Naca 2415 section manufactured by Harran-Ravens team was selected for Teknofest competition. As a result of the simulations carried out, the aerodynamic forces and moments that affect the airfoil have been determined. In terms of lift force, the deviation between the two simulations is 6%, while in the drag force the said deviation increases up to 15.5%. Also, the lift and drag coefficient calculated by both simulation results are in good agreement with Airfoil Tools database. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The cost-effectiveness of bevacizumab has been the subject of debate, and we aimed to present our own retrospective data on its effect on survival in recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer., Methods: Patients with recurrent ovarian, tubal and primary peritoneal cancer between October 2007 and June 2018 were grouped according to the platinum-free interval. The progression-free and overall survivals of the patients who had received chemotherapy only and chemotherapy with bevacizumab were calculated., Results: Eighty patients had received chemotherapy (CT) only, and 65 had received CT+BV. In platinum-sensitive recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer (PSREOC) patients, the median progression-free survival (PFS) months was 7 months (95% CI; 5.5-8.4) in the group who had received CT only and 13 months (95% CI; 5.8-20.1) in the group who had received CT+BV (p=0.001) and for CT+BV HR (Hazard Ratio):0.39 (95% CI; 0.24-0.64) (p=0.001). The median PFS of platinum-resistant recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer (PRREOC) patients who had received CT only was determined as 2 (95% CI; 1.4-2.5) and as 10 (95% CI; 6.8-13.1) months for patients who had received CT+BV (p=0.001), for patients who had received CT+BV HR: 0.31 (95% CI; 0.17-0.58) (p=0.001). In both PSREOC and PRREOC patients, there was no difference between CT + BV and CT group in terms of overall survival (p=0.978 and p=0.738, respectively)., Conclusion: A significant effect of bevacizumab on the progression-free survival of both platinum-sensitive and platinum resistant recurrent ovarian cancers has been demonstrated; however, this effect failed to impact overall survival. Therefore, it could be recommended to use bevacizumab, considering the cost-effectiveness in undeveloped and developing countries.
