Only black inkjet prints were studied with regard to forensic examination of documents. We analysed twenty-one inkjet prints using surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS). The present paper deals with micro-destructive document analysis based on silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) use to obtain surface enhanced ATR-FTIR (attenuated total reflection -- Fourier transform infrared) spectra directly from the document. For this experiment, AgNPs in colloid form was applied. AgNPs for SEIRAS analyses were synthesised and afterwards analysed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The purpose of the enhancement of colloids was to improve the resolution of the absorption signal of the analysed samples from noise. In the experiment, the obtained ink ATR-FTIR spectra, with and without silver treatment, were significantly affected by the paper base. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a novel approach in non-destructive analysis of inkjet-printed documents. Our method is based on the combination of molecular spectroscopy in the Near Infrared Region (NIR) and a chemometric method - principal component analysis (PCA). The aim of this work was to prepare spectral data for the analysis of the interrelationships between 19 samples consisting of the same type of office paper on which black squares were full printed in black ink only. The spectra were obtained separately using the Ocean Optics System in two spectral regions, i.e., overtones: 1000-1600 nm and combination bands: 1600-2300 nm, with the paper base. The article discusses the survey on archival manuscripts in Slovakia. Documents from the University Library, Slovak National Archives, both in Bratislava, and Slovak National Library in Martin represented the 170 collection. Corrosion damages, solubility of the materials, and stamps used other than iron gall inks comprised the objectives of the researchers as determined in a criteria. One of the results revealed that 41 percent of the materials arrived at 4.1-5.0 pH value.

The article examines the behavior of iron elements in prepared iron-gall inks and its influence on paper ageing. It provides a review of literature about the essential qualities of iron gall inks and its properties. Furthermore, the authors present the experimental design of the study including the materials and equipment used, the preparation of samples, and the methodology. Based on the results, the catalytic activity of iron ions in cellulose degradation mechanisms was verified and the relationship between the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis and meta-catalyzed oxidation of cellulose was demonstrated.

Three sets of titanium oxide layers with different oxygen content were prepared by DC pulsed reactive magnetron sputtering. The layers were characterised by their thickness, conductivity, refractive index, band-gap and flat band potential. The photoelectric and photocatalytic activities of the layers irradiated by Xe discharge lamp were tested in NaOH and phenol water solution, respectively. Rather high activity of prepared layers was found; no expressive activity increase was, however, observed in contrary to the expectation connected with suboxide forms of TiO x. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
