The streets, which are among the main determinants of the urban fabric, the morphological structures and interrelations of streets, and their forms of intersection/convergence may affect the stylistic structures of urban nodes. If settlements are compared as planned and unplanned settlements, it is seen that with their nonrecurrent unique configuration, unplanned settlements differ from planned settlements. This study is organized based on the hierarchical structure including "settlements, urban nodes in settlements, and visual foci on urban nodes", and it covers the street spaces and squares forming with street intersection systems in traditional Anatolian settlements. In this context, typological and morphological structures in urban spaces of gathering, visual foci demonstrated by the visibility analyses of the space syntax in gathering spaces, the relationships between visual foci and street systems, typologies relating to the styles of the presence of visual foci in the urban space, and the morphological patterns of changes that emerge in visual foci by the transformation of street systems are investigated. In the scope of this study, it is seen that the intersection points/areas of street segments and the visual foci obtained using the space syntactic analysis method are similar to each other, the visual foci in street spaces are gathered on one side of the vertical planes surrounding these spaces, the visual foci in squares are gathered on two sides of the vertical planes surrounding the squares, and this situation has developed as a consequence of the natural dynamic street and static square structure. This study proposed a method that aims to reveal organizational structures connected to the stylistic typologies of the part-whole relationship between the components of settlements with organic fabric. In this sense, this study compares organizational characteristics based on stylistic structures between city blocks, roads and road intersection systems that constitute the urban whole and plots and buildings that constitute urban parts. The traditional settlement area whose boundaries are determined in the conservation development plan of the Kula district of the province of Manisa was selected as the research area. In the field study, morphological structures belonging to city blocks, roads, road intersection systems, plots in Block 114 and buildings in Block 114, as well as organizational structures based on these morphological structures, were presented, and the part-whole relationship was discussed regarding morphological and organizational structures. It is believed that the method presented in this study may be a directing design guide for the growth of unplanned settlements/settlements with organic fabric in compliance with their existing stylistic structures, and accordingly, it may have favorable contributions to the protection of urban identity in this respect. The aim of this study is to examine the changes and transformations, which have taken place in public spaces and squares within the context of the public building-square relationship during the Republican period, through the governor's buildings of all 55 provinces and their related urban spaces/squares. Within this scope, first, qualitative and quantitative analyses were carried out both the old and current governor's buildings of all 55 provinces and their related urban spaces and squares. Then, the study presented formal and functional changes, the relationships between buildings/squares, and periodical findings about the features of publicity that emerged in the governor's buildings and their urban spaces/squares in their immediate environments. The findings of the present study reveal that the relocation or non-relocation of the governor's buildings caused different transformations and changes in urban spaces and the building-square relationships. Likewise, it was found that the relationship between urban square and governor's building helped to enrich public spaces in terms of quantity and quality within immediate environment of the governor's buildings which were located at the centre of the city and remained there. Moreover, the relocation of the new governor's buildings away from the city centres negatively affected the formation of public spaces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Traditional Anatolian settlements have been formed as a reflection of community life. In the study, it was aimed to compare the housing relations with social and public spaces such as courtyards/gardens, streets and squares in different urban textures. Accordingly, the study was conducted over 10 neighborhoods in 5 regions from Anatolia's different geographical regions which have both unplanned-organic and planned-geometrical textures. As study areas, Kula Zaferiye and Bey Neighborhoods, Avanos Orta and Bahcelievler Neighborhoods, Safranbolu Akcasu and Emek Neighborhoods, Boyabat Gokdere and Yildiz Neighborhoods, and Midyat Isiklar-Akcakaya-Bahcelievler Neighborhoods were determined. Analyses were performed on street and residence arrangements in unplanned and planned neighborhoods, urban spaces that stand out in spatial integration, concentration space typologies that have different publicity degrees in urban spaces, the functional properties of concentration-square spaces in settlements, and plane properties that vertically and horizontally determine concentration spaces connected to residence units in neighborhoods. Social interaction-concentration spaces such as courtyard/garden, street, and square with semi-private/public, and public features were discussed in terms of sustainability based on spatial and formal analysis findings.
