AbstractDigital hoarding is one of the new concepts entering our lives with the digitalization of the world in the present day. The lack of definition as a disorder to date is related to the inadequacy of research related to the topic. In this study, an attempt was made to deal with and explain the digital hoarding concept in terms of psychological variables. The aim of the research was to investigate the correlations between digital hoarding with personality traits and mental health. The sample for the study, completed with a cross-sectıon research desıgn, comprised 1018 Turkish university students attending different universities in the north of Türkiye. Data collection tools included the Digital Hoarding Scale, Ten-Item Personality Inventory, Offer Self-Image Questionnaire and Personal Information Form. As a result of the correlation analysis, significant correlations were identified between digital hoarding with mental health, extraversion, emotional stability, openness to experience and agreeableness. As a result of regression analysis, the subdimensions of personality traits and mental health explained 4% of digital hoarding. The findings contribute to the limited literature about the topic by revealing correlations between digital hoarding and psychological variables. Future research may attempt to repeat these findings using clinical samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the caries diagnosis performances of dental students after training with an artificial intelligence (AI) application utilizing deep learning techniques, a type of artificial neural network. Methods: A total of 1200 bitewing radiographs were obtained from the institution's database and two specialist dentists labeled the caries lesions in the images. Randomly selected 1000 images were used for training purposes and the remaining 200 radiographs were used to evaluate the caries diagnostic performance of the AI. Then, a convolutional neural network, a deep learning algorithm commonly employed to analyze visual imagery problems, called "You Only Look Once," was modified and trained to detect enamel and dentin caries lesions in the radiographs. Forty dental students were selected voluntarily and randomly divided into two groups. The pre‐test results of dental caries diagnosis performances of both groups were recorded. After 1 week, group 2 students were trained using an AI application. Then, the post‐test results of both groups were recorded. The labeling duration of the students was also measured and analyzed. Results: When both groups' pre‐test and post‐test results were evaluated, a statistically significant improvement was found for all parameters examined except precision score (p < 0.05). However, the trained group's accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and F1 scores were significantly higher than the non‐trained group in terms of post‐test scores (p < 0.05). In group 2 (trained group), the post‐test labeling time was considerably increased (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The students trained by AI showed promising results in detecting caries lesions. The use of AI can also contribute to the clinical education of dental students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. Indirect restorations have been employed in restorative dentistry to solve some of the drawbacks of direct restorations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different modes of a universal adhesive resin on the repair capacity of two indirect resin composites and a direct resin composite. Methods. Indirect composite resins (Ceramage and Gradia Plus) and a direct composite resin (Filtek Z250) were prepared in a plastic mold with a height and diameter of 2-mm and 6-mm, respectively. Composite blocks were thermocycled (5000 cycles, 5°C-55°C). Then, according to their surface treatments, composite blocks were categorized into six-groups: Group 1: ER (etch&rinse), Group 2: SE (self-etch), Group 3: Bur + ER (bur + etch&rinse), Group 4: Bur + SE (bur + self-etch), Group 5: Bur + Silane + ER (bur + silane + etch&rinse), Group 6: Bur + Silane + SE (bur + silane + self-etch), respectively. After surface treatments and adhesive application for bonding with a direct resin composite, all groups were then thermocycled before performing shear-bond-strength-test. Failure modes were evaluated using a stereomicroscope. Data were analyzed by two-way-ANOVA and Bonferroni-test (P < 0.05). Results. The highest bond-strength values were obtained for Bur + Silane + SE groups, while the lowest values were obtained for the Bur + Silane + ER groups for all materials. Statistically significant differences were observed between the Bur + Silane + ER group and ER, Bur + ER and Bur + Silane + SE groups in Gradia Plus (P < 0.05). Conclusion. The self-etch-mode of the universal-adhesive and silane applications led to the increase in the repair-strength of the adhesive in the Filtek Z250 and Ceramage. The selfetch- mode of the universal-adhesive might be used to reduce adhesive-application-steps in the clinical repair procedures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OVARIAN reserve , *INTRACYTOPLASMIC sperm injection , *EMBRYO implantation , *OOCYTE retrieval , *EMBRYO transfer - Abstract
Several chemical, mechanical, or physical stimuli can be used to promote oocyte activation during ICSI cycles. Calcium ionophore is the most commun method for chemical oocyte activation and activation may be beneficial for cases of globozoospermia, low oocyte count, total fertilization failure, recurrent implantation failure (1,2). In what concern low ovarian reserve cases, a subgroup of infertile couples with relatively poor prognosis, artificial oocyte activation with calcium ionophore may improve fertilization rates, embryo number, embryo quality and pregnancy rates. This study aimed to find out whether Ca2+ ionophore improves fertilization, embryo development and pregnancy out comes in patients with low ovarian reserve. This study is conducted at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Unit. All IVF-ICSI cycles performed because of female factor, low ovarian reserve between November 2023 and July 2024 are included.Patients with DOR indication, who were administered calcium ionophore(GROUP I/Experimental Group, n:30) and patients who were not administered calcium ionophore (GROUP II/Control Group, n:30) were included. These patients were compared in terms of fertilization, embryo quality and pregnancy rates.Oocytes at the MII stage obtained from patients were subjected to ICSI approximately 4 hours after oocyte retrieval(OPU). After ICSI, the oocytes were incubated in a calcium ionophore solution for 20 minutes and then transferred to culture media. On the following days, fertilization rates, embryo development, and pregnancy statuses were assessed. The results were statistically evaluated using independent samples t-test and chi-square test. Statistical significance was considered as p<0.05 No differences were observed between the two groups in terms of female age, BMI, duration of infertility, AMH, FSH, LH, estradiol, oocyte count, oocyte maturation, and fertilization rate factors. However, the transfer of medium-quality embryos was found to be significantly higher in the DOR group without calcium ionophore application(p=0.035).The number of embryos frozen in Group I was significantly higher compared to Group II (p=0.020) (Table). No significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of clinical pregnancy and ongoing pregnancy rates. Alternative laboratory treatments applied to patients with low ovarian reserve may yield positive results in terms of increasing the likelihood of success. Our study has shown that the application of calcium ionophore in these cases leads to better-quality embryo development and consequently an increased number of frozen embryos. Although no significant difference was observed in clinical pregnancy and ongoing pregnancy rates, increasing the number of patients in the study could yield more definitive results. Background. Enamel microabrasion can eliminate enamel irregularities and discoloration. This study evaluated the staining susceptibility of enamel after microabrasion using different clinical protocols. Methods. A total of 210 extracted bovine incisors were used in this study. The teeth were randomly divided into five groups of 42 teeth each (n = 42), including group 1: control (no treatment), group 2: microabrasion, group 3: microabrasion + fluoride polishing, group 4: macroabrasion (fine-grit diamond bur) + microabrasion, and group 5: macroabrasion (finegrit diamond bur) + microabrasion + fluoride polishing. The groups were then randomly divided into two subgroups for discoloration procedures: coffee and distilled water (n = 21). A spectrophotometric evaluation was carried out at baseline and on the 1st, 7th, 14th, and 28th days of the staining period. Statistical analyses were performed using repeated-measures ANOVA and the post hoc Bonferroni test at a significance level of 0.05. Results. The greatest color change was observed in group 2 specimens, which were immersed in coffee solutions. The color change values for groups 3, 4, and 5 specimens, which were immersed in distilled water, were higher than those in group 1 specimens (P < 0.05). The fluoride polishing + enamel microabrasion treatment groups (groups 3 and 5) exhibited greater resistance to color changes than the matched non-fluoride-polished groups (groups 2 and 4) (P < 0.05). Conclusions. The teeth that underwent enamel microabrasion treatment and were polished with fluoride gel became more resistant to color changes. Our findings confirm that enamel microabrasion treatment is a conservative method for localized discoloration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Besides the output power and pulse frequency, the pulse duration of Er:YAG laser is an important parameter for conditioning the restorative material surface. This study aimed to investigate the effect of six different pulse modes of Er:YAG laser on the repair bond strength of a hybrid ceramic and two resin-based CAD/CAM restorative materials. Twenty-eight specimens (5 × 5 × 4 mm) were prepared for each CAD/CAM block (Lava Ultimate-(LU), Vita Enamic-(VE), and GC Cerasmart-(GCC)) and randomly divided into seven groups. The specimens except the control group were irradiated using Er:YAG laser at 3 W and 20 Hz using quantum square pulse (QSP), super short pulse (SSP), short pulse (SP), medium short pulse (MSP), long pulse (LP), and a very long pulse (VLP). A micro-hybrid resin composite (Filtek Z250, 3 M ESPE, USA) was placed up to 4 mm on each CAD/CAM specimen in two increments. Bar specimens (1 × 1 × 8 mm) were obtained using a cutting device and thermocycled 10,000 times at 5–55 °C. Microtensile bond strength (µTBS) test was performed at a 1 mm/min crosshead speed. Data were statistically analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD tests (p < 0.05). µTBS was significantly affected by both pulse duration and material type (p < 0.001). Pulse duration and material type showed a statistically significant interaction (p < 0.001). Except for QSP, shorter pulse modes resulted in a higher repair bond strength. VLP mode is not recommended to be used in repair procedures with the materials tested. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SALMONELLA typhimurium , *DNA , *BIOFILMS , *SALMONELLA - Abstract
In this study, the role of extracellular DNA in the establishment and maintenance of Salmonella biofilms was investigated. As a result of spectrophotometric measurements using PicoGreen® dye, it was determined that planktonic cells contain less eDNA compared to their biofilm counterparts. As a result of incubation at 20°C for 24h, eDNA contents of planktonic Salmonella Typhimurium SL1344 and DMC4 cells were determined as 206 ng/ml and 211 ng/ml, respectively. However, eDNA amounts increases to 313.18 ng/ml for SL1344 and 319.37 ng/ml for DMC4 at biofilm structure of the same strains. The effects of extracellular DNA (eDNA) released from biofilm cells and genomic DNA (gDNA) isolated from Salmonella cells on the biofilm formation in the bacteria were investigated using DNase I and Benzonase enzymes that digest DNA. In the experiments where both enzymes were applied, the active fragmentation of eDNA and gDNA resulted in a statistically significant (p <0,01) decrease in biofilm formation at the end of 24 hours compared to nonenzyme treated samples, but this effect disappeared after 48 hours of incubation. The purpose of this research was to determine whether or not traumatic childhood experiences in childhood predict a disposition to risk-taking and aggression among university students. The participants consisted of 851 students: 477 (56.1%) females and 374 (43.9%) males attending various faculties at the Karadeniz Technical University in Turkey. The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Adolescent Risk-Taking Scale, Aggression Questionnaire, and Personal Information Form were used for data collection. The analysis results revealed a positive correlation between traumatic experiences (physical, sexual, emotional maltreatment, and emotional neglect) and risk-taking and aggression. Physical and sexual abuse and gender are significant predictors of risk-taking. Physical abuse and gender are some of the predictors of aggression. Another finding from the study is that physical and emotional abuse and emotional neglect vary by gender. This study concludes that exposure to traumatic experiences in childhood prepares the foundation for negative behaviors in adulthood. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To compare the effects of quartz-tungsten-halogen (QTH) and light-emitting-diode (LED) curing units on the 3-year clinical performance of a nanofilled composite resin in noncarious cervical lesions. Materials and Methods: Twenty-six patients with at least 2 noncarious cervical lesions were enrolled in the study. A total of 154 restorations were placed: half polymerized with QTH and half polymerized with LED. Single Bond was used as the adhesive and Filtek Supreme was used as the restorative material for all restorations. The restorations were assessed by two different examiners using modified Ryge/USPHS criteria at baseline and at 6, 12, 24, and 36 months. The survival rates were analyzed with the Kaplan-Meier estimator and the Log-Rank test, and the statistical analysis was completed using Pearson's chi-square test (p < 0.05). Results: Twenty patients were available for recall after 3 years and 114 restorations were evaluated (recall rate of 74%). The survival rate was 84% for QTH and LED polymerized restorations. There were no statistically significant differences in survival rates between the light-curing units (p > 0.05). No significant differences were observed between QTH and LED polymerized restorations in terms of any of the evaluation criteria at the end of 3 years (p > 0.05). No color change in the restorations was observed and none of them exhibited secondary caries at the end of 3 years. Conclusion: Over the 3-year study period, both curing units, QTH and LED, produced acceptable clinical results in noncarious cervical lesions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Materials and Methods: A total of 42 human maxillary incisors were used to construct 14 veneers for each experimental group: (1) Artglass veneers, (2) IPS Empress veneers with grit blasting, and (3) IPS Empress veneers without grit blasting. Veneers were luted with Variolink II High Viscosity and Variolink Ultra. The restored teeth were sectioned buccolingually and mesiodistally, and marginal gap width measurements were made at 200x magnification. The data were statistically analyzed with analysis of variance. Results: The mean marginal gap width varied from 105 to 182 µm. No significant differences were recorded between the marginal gap widths in relation to different types of veneers or luting agents. However, significantly higher marginal discrepancies were observed for the incisal margins of IPS Empress veneers without grit blasting. Conclusion: In view of the higher marginal discrepancy of IPS Empress veneers divested without grit blasting, the use of this alternative technique was not beneficial. The use of a highly filled resin luting agent (Variolink Ultra) did not cause an increase in marginal gap widths of the veneers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The limited number of programs of tested efficacy in the literature such as cognitive-behavioural therapy and family-based prevention of internet addiction is striking. The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of reality therapy-based group counselling on college students’ problematic internet use and life satisfaction. In order to determine who would participate in the counselling program, screening tests were administered to 418 students. Twenty students who met the inclusion criteria eventually took part. The Online Cognition Scale and Life Satisfaction Scale were used pre- and posttests in order to evaluate the counselling program. Results show that reality therapy-based group counselling significantly reduces the level of problematic internet use among college students and increases their life satisfaction levels. RESPONSIBILITY to protect (International law) ,INTERNATIONAL law ,CIVIL war ,FOREIGN relations of Turkey ,SOCIAL history - Abstract
This paper analyses the articulation of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) into Turkish foreign policy (tfp) during the Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, akp) era. R2P has particularly become significant when the uprisings turned into full-scale civil wars in Libya and Syria. Therefore, this study examines tfp towards Libya and Syria in the framework of R2P. It argues that there is a close correlation between Turkey's support of R2P and recently increasing emphasis on the normative foundations of its foreign policy in general. It also discusses that Ankara has appeared as an active advocate of the norm insofar as it adopted a more ambitious policy agenda, particularly in the context of the Syrian civil war. However, this paper concludes that, due to Turkey's pragmatic approach, R2P has turned into a justification tool in the discourse of tfp makers for their regional aspirations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Dental education consists of both theoretical and practical learning for students to develop competence in treating patients clinically. When dental students encounter practical courses in their first year as a new educational experience, they must also learn to evaluate themselves. Self-evaluation is an essential skill to learn for dental professionals to keep increasing their competence over the course of their careers. The aim of this study was to compare the assessment scores of second- and third-year dental students and the faculty in two consecutive preclinical practical exams in restorative dentistry courses in a dental school in Turkey. Faculty- and student-assigned scores were calculated from two consecutive preclinical examinations on tooth restorations performed on both artificial casts and phantom patients. The students were formally instructed on grading procedures for tooth preparations, base and restoration placement, and polishing criteria. After each step, each item was assessed by faculty members, the student, and another student. The results indicated that the initial differences between second-year students' assessments of their own preclinical practical ability and that of the faculty decreased among the third-year students. Self-evaluation scores did not indicate whether the third-year students tended to over- or underestimate the quality of their own work. However, the second-year students not only overestimated themselves but thought they were above average. The results point to the need to develop students' self-insight with more exercises and practical training. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical performance of a nanohybrid and a microhybrid composite in class I and II restorations after 3 years. Subjects and Methods: A total of 82 class I and class II restorations were performed in 31 patients (10 males and 21 females) using Grandio and QuiXfil with self-etch adhesives (Futurabond and Xeno III). The restorations were clinically evaluated by 2 operators 1 week after placement (baseline) and at 6 months and 1, 2, and 3 years using modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. At the 3-year follow-up, 62 class I and class II cavities were reevaluated in 23 patients (7 males and 16 females). Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson's χ2 and Fisher's exact tests (p < 0.05). Results: At the 6-month follow-up, all restorations received Alfa scores with respect to each evaluation criterion. At the 1-year follow-up, 2 QuiXfil restorations had to be replaced and Grandio restorations started to deteriorate in terms of marginal adaptation. At the end of 2 years, 9 Grandio restorations showed significant deterioration of the surface properties, demonstrating Bravo scores. At the end of3 years, no significant differences were observed regarding color match, marginal adaptation, secondary caries, marginal discoloration, and anatomic form loss between the evaluated materials in 25 class I and 37 class II restorations. At the 3-year follow-up, Grandio restorations had 21% Bravo scores and showed significant deterioration of the surface properties, which were still clinically acceptable according to USPHS criteria. Three QuiXfil and 1 Grandio restorations were replaced because of secondary caries and loss of retention. Conclusions: Both the nanohybrid (Grandio) and the microhybrid (QuiXfil) composites were clinically functional after 3 years. © 2014 S. Karger AG, Basel [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The aim was to compare the microleakage of resin composite bonded with different adhesive systems in class-II cavities at enamel or dentine margins.Material and methods: 60 extracted human molar teeth received slot cavity preparations on mesial and distal surfaces (mesial cervical margin was prepared in enamel and distal in dentine). They were randomly divided into five groups (n = 12) according to the adhesive system: Group-A: Silorane Bond (S), Group-B: Adper Single Bond 2 (SB), Group-C: Clearfil SE Bond (CSE), Group-D: Single Bond Universal (USel) (selective etch-and-rinse), Group-E: Single Bond Universal (USE) (all-in-one). The preparations were restored using the same resin composite (Filtek Ultimate) except Group A which was restored by Silorane composite. The teeth were thermocycled, immersed in dye, sectioned, and dye penetration was evaluated quantitatively using image analysis. The data were analyzed using the two-way analysis of variance and Bonferroni test. Results: In all groups, there was no statistically significant difference between enamel margins at occlusal and gingival sites (p > 0.05). The statistical difference between Group-A (S) and Group-B (SB) was significant at all margins. Group-B (SB) presented the greatest microleakage amounts at all margins and the highest scores were obtained in the dentine. Likewise, SB demonstrated statistically significant differences between dentine and enamel margins (occlusal and gingival)(p < 0.05).Conclusion: All adhesive systems showed similar microleakage values between enamel margins in occlusal and gingival regions. However, when the gingival margin is located in the dentine, etch&rinse adhesive systems may not be a choice in terms of microleakage prevention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this research was to determine the degree to which Psychological Counseling and Guidance Department students’ self-perception, belief in their self-efficacy and ways of coping with stress predict their types of goal orientation. Another aim of the study was to determine whether types of goal orientation vary by gender and class year. The study group consisted of 328 students, 228 female and 100 male students. The 2x2 Achievement Goals Orientation Scale, Social Comparison Scale, Coping with Stress Scale, Self-Efficacy Scale and Personal Information Form were used as data collection tools. Examination of the data obtained showed that self-perception, self-efficacy, seeking social support, problem-focused coping and avoidance accounted for 37 % of total learning approach orientation variance, learning avoidance orientation accounted for 5 % of total variance, performance orientation accounted for 9 % of total variance and performance avoidance orientation accounted for 22 % of total variance. We also determined that learning avoidance goal orientation type varied according to gender, and learning approach and learning avoidance varied according to class year. The findings are discussed in the light of the literature and suggestions for future research are proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
