The growing demand for agricultural products, driven by the Green Revolution, has led to a significant increase in food production. However, the demand is surpassing production, making food security a major concern, especially under climatic variation. The Indian agriculture sector is highly vulnerable to extreme rainfall, drought, pests, and diseases in the present climate change scenario. Nonetheless, the key agriculture sub-sectors such as livestock, rice cultivation, and biomass burning also significantly contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, a driver of global climate change. Agriculture activities alone account for 10-12% of global GHG emissions. India is an agrarian economy and a hub for global food production, which is met by intensive agricultural inputs leading to the deterioration of natural resources. It further contributes to 14% of the country's total GHG emissions. Identifying the drivers and best mitigation strategies in the sector is thus crucial for rigorous GHG mitigation. Therefore, this review aims to identify and expound the key drivers of GHG emissions in Indian agriculture and present the best strategies available in the existing literature. This will help the scientific community, policymakers, and stakeholders to evaluate the current agricultural practices and uphold the best approach available. We also discussed the socio-economic, and environmental implications to understand the impacts that may arise from intensive agriculture. Finally, we examined the current national climate policies, areas for further research, and policy amendments to help bridge the knowledge gap among researchers, policymakers, and the public in the national interest toward GHG reduction goals., (© 2024. Despite its mechanical and environmental properties, pineapple leaf fibers (PALF) are used as a home threading material in India. In addition, the effects of abrasive combing and pretreatment techniques on fiber and composite characteristics were examined in this work. Using PALF vascular bundles separated from different regions of the leaves did not affect the mechanical aspects of pineapple leaf fiber-vinyl ester composites. PALF fibers performed equally in strengthening composite flexural properties under static loading, regardless of diameter or location, with a much lower weight percentage and combined pressure. Tests at higher speeds revealed that the PALF-vinyl ester composite was more robust with more delicate bundles. Reinforcing composites that do not require a high degree of hardness can benefit from the cleaner, more delicate bundles produced by abrasive combing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The natural fiber–reinforced polymer composites gaining substantial importance in recent years due to their unique properties compared to synthetic composites. In India (especially northeastern part), cultivars and industries mostly focus on pineapple fruits, leaving leaf to mainly compost or burn and decay as an agro waste. In this article, pineapple leaf–based (variety type Kew or Giant Kew from Silchar, Assam, India) short fiber–reinforced polymer composites as a function of fiber composition and composite thickness on mechanical properties are analyzed. In this regard, short pineapple leaf fibers (≈ 1 mm to 2 mm) as reinforcement + epoxy resin (Lapox (L12) resin + K6 hardener) as matrix material are used for composites. Subsequently, six different fiber compositions (as 0, 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt%) with composite specimen's thickness (as 3 and 5 mm) are prepaid. Later, mechanical properties like tensile strength, flexural strength, and toughness and hardness values for each of the composite specimens are evaluated. The result shows that the addition of short fiber can improve the mechanical properties and found in all the cases composites with 10% of reinforcement + at 5-mm thickness show better performance than the other combinations. Jute (the golden fibre) has been cultivated in India since time immemorial. About 5 million people get employment in jute farming, trading and industry though the crop occupies only 0.55% of the gross cropped area of the country. The traditional usage of jute has been sustained in packing as hessian, sacking, and carpet backing. However, in recent times jute has application prospects that ranges from geo-textiles to apparel, carpet, decorative items, upholstery, home furnishings, fancy non-woven etc. Though the diversification of jute fibre made it a very attractive industrial commodity, the farmers are not able to reap the benefits through its cultivation. Moreover, jute bye-products viz. jute leaves, jute stick, jute caddies (mill waste) and jute root cuttings are not used efficiently.
