Beeswax is a naturally occurring product that worker bees produce. Beeswax is used in a variety of industries and pharmaceuticals. Humans utilize it extensively in cosmetics, medicinal formulations, and food manufacturing. Beeswax is an essential component of advanced contemporary beekeeping. Beekeepers, in particular, utilize significant amounts of beeswax to make beeswax comb foundation. In its natural condition, beeswax is white, but it becomes yellow then dark in color when it comes into touch with honey and pollen. The ongoing use of wax comb in bee activities (such as brood rearing, storage honey and bee bread), combined with environmental factors such as heavy metal and pesticide residues, resulted in a black color. Because of heavy metals can accumulate in wax for decades, beeswax can be a helpful tool for gathering data on hazardous contaminants in the environment. Because of their lipid-based chemical composition, beeswax combs act as a sink for numerous ambient pollutants as well as poisons when in the hive. The current study aims to measure nine heavy metals and important elements, including iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), manganese (Mn), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and cobalt (Co) in beeswax collected in the Behaira governorate region of Egypt between 2018 and 2022. Sample collection was conducted each year in triplicate. The samples were analyzed using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The quantity of metals in beeswax at different ages differed significantly. Depending on the wax age, Fe has the highest concentration in the range of 2.068 to 5.041 ppm, while Cd has the lowest ratio at 0.024 to 0.054 ppm from the first to fifth years old of comb age. The findings showed that as beeswax combs aged, the concentration of heavy metals rose. According to the study, it should gradually recycle beeswax combs each year and also adding new foundations. The anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, and antimicrobial activities of some common Egyptian seaweeds in addition to their phytochemical and heavy metal contents were investigated. Phytochemical screening of the seaweed extracts showed the presence of different primary and secondary metabolites with different concentrations according to their species and the used solvent. The ethanolic extract of Colpmenia sinuosa (CSBE2) exhibited the maximum anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activity at 1000 μg/ml concentration compared to other seaweed extracts. The dichloromethane extract of Corallina officinalis (CORM) exerted the highest antimicrobial activity with an average inhibition zone diameter (AV) = 15.29 mm and activity index (AI) = 1.53 and with the highest antagonistic activity against Escherichia coli (28 mm). It is followed by Ulva linza ethanolic extract (ULGE2) which recorded (AV) of 14.71 mm and (AI) of 1.30 with the highest antifungal activity against Candida albicans (30 mm). The collected seaweeds would therefore be a very promising source for treating inflammatory, arthritic, and microbial diseases. Moreover, the investigated seaweeds showed variable concentrations of heavy metals among various species. The mean concentrations of the heavy metals took the following order: Fe > Zn > Mn > Ba > Cu > As > Cr > Ni > Pb > V > Cd > Se > Co > Mo. Based on the permissible limits set by the WHO and CEVA, Pb and Ni in the studied seaweeds were found to be within the permissible limits, whereas Cd and Zn contents were at the borderline. Due to water scarcity, the groundwater will represent an essential source of water in many communities worldwide. This study was carried out to investigate the main hydrogeochemical characteristic of trace elements composition, their sources, and its vulnerability in groundwater to the human population. Fifteen groundwater samples were collected from boreholes and hand dug wells from the South Eastern Desert, Egypt, and analyzed for Al, As, B, Fe, Mn, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, Rb, Sb, Sr, Th, U, V, and Zn using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Multivariate analyses were applied to identify the distribution and potential source of trace elements. The groundwater is tapped from the Miocene and the fractured basement rock aquifers. The mean concentrations of trace elements exceed the guideline values of all organizations, except in some wells for Zn, Cu, and Co. Cationic trace elements declined in the order of Mn > Fe > Zn > Al > V > Ni > Rb > Sr > U > Cu > Cr > Co > Cd > Pb > Th > Sb > Hg. Oxyanions As (mean 15.48 mg/L) and B (mean 1.24 mg/L) showed very high concentrations and higher than the average WHO concentrations in water suggesting potential adverse toxicity to all aquatic organisms. Five factor analyses indicated that different geochemical contributions are involved in the chemical characteristics of groundwater in the study area. Water–rock interaction and dissolution processes in bed rocks from different coastal Miocene deposits, meta-volcanics, basic-ultrabasic rocks, granitic and meta-sediments, seawater intrusion, residential wastes, and mining activities, in addition to the pH/Eh conditions, adsorption, and surface complexation during the chemical weathering are the main factors influence the trace elements distribution in groundwater. Results from this study for the six different groundwater aquifers are a unique insight into the sources and mobility of the observed trace elements in the groundwater and can be used in the assessment of contamination for drinking water wells. The association of trace elements from different aquifers might be useful in tracers studies of water-rock interaction. Due to the enrichment of trace elements in nearshore and crystalline groundwater aquifers in the study area and in similar areas worldwide, treatment technologies, and sustainable water management processes should be applied to prevent severe risks to the communities.
