This paper describes the assembly of an updated dataset of detrital zircon geochronology and Lu–Hf isotopes for Turkey, Cyprus and Greek peninsula. This first version of the dataset documented 286 samples with detrital zircon U–Pb data and 70 samples with zircon Lu–Hf isotopes from 42 published articles. These samples are mainly distributed in seven geologic‐tectonic units in the Eastern Mediterranean Tethyan region. The compilation of dataset will be periodically accessed in the Deep‐Time Digital Earth repository, containing more updated raw data of (un)published scientific research. We believe that the construction of such a dataset is fundamental to studies of clastic strata and also to understanding of crustal evolution in the Eastern Mediterranean region. This paper provides the results of the dendrochronological analyses of seven wood samples from the Ottoman fortress of Seddülbahir on the Gallipoli Peninsula or Turkey. It concludes that the trees were cut in the late spring of 1656. The data collected allows the first building phase of the fortress to be securely dated. By bringing together the dendrochronological results with various archival records about the fortress, a more precise building chronology for the fortress can be reconstructed. The pre-Liassic basement of the Biga Peninsula, located in the westernmost part of the Sakarya Zone, consists of metamorphic assemblages that were considered to represent different continental basements in the north and south, and the suture (ophiolitic/mélange) zone(s) between them. The Çetmi mélange, defined as between these continental fragments (the Kazdağ Massif in the south and the Çamlıca Massif in the north) was evaluated as a subduction accretionary mélange of the Intra-Pontide Ocean and it was assumed that a suture passed through this part of the peninsula. This study was carried out on the most widely distributed outcrops of the Çetmi mélange(?) on the northwest flank of the Kazdağ Massif. These units, which are named the Örenli metamorphics, are represented by a succession of low-grade metamorphic volcanic-volcaniclastic rocks and alternating metasedimentary rocks and recrystallized limestones. The tectonostratigraphically lowermost levels of the Örenli metamorphics are a blocky-chaotic assemblage, whereas the uppermost levels are a regular metavolcanic-metapelite succession, which passes upward into the Late Triassic recrystallized limestones, and is cut by very low-grade metamorphic diabase dykes of 165.81 ± 1.55 Ma age. Furthermore, metavolcanic rocks of this succession show a calc-alkaline association of Basalt-Andesite-Dacite-Rhyolite (BADR) pattern in the chemical classification diagram, which is the signature volcanic rock suite of convergent margins. In addition, all the metavolcanic rock samples show a significant enrichment in terms of incompatible elements and LIL elements and negative Nb and Ti anomalies on the MORB normalized multielement spider diagram, which indicates that these rocks characterize high-K calc-alkaline volcanism at the active continental margins. Field relationships, zircon U-Pb geochronology, and geochemical data support that these units, outcropping in the study area, represent a Triassic active continental margin, most probably a fore-arc setting, related to the Paleo-Tethyan subduction, but not the subduction mélange of the Intra-Pontide Ocean. Urban place-making requires an understanding of experiences and meanings ordinary people associate with common environments—meanings that often go back to their childhoods. This paper investigates how children's place preferences and the attributes of these places differ along a rural-urban continuum. Participatory photography was used with four groups of children (ages 9-11) living in three different municipalities of the Bodrum peninsula, Turkey—a region that has experienced major transformation over the past three decades due to tourism. The research reported here was part of planning and urban design studios during the summers of 2005-2007, and the results were integrated with the projects and presented to the public. The particular municipalities where the children resided vary in tourism-based urbanization and the associated socio-economic and environmental characteristics. In all cases, the children valued experiencing nature, being in contact with people and having diversity and freedom in their environments. Although all four of these factors are essential for producing healthy, loved and sustainable communities, it was also observed that as traditional landscapes are replaced by spaces of tourism and consumption, the specific attributes of children's preferred places change, as does the diversity of place types and experiences, and children have less freedom to explore independently. These changes have implications for people's attachment to places and ought to be considered by planners and urban designers as well as public officials who are responsible for guiding redevelopment in areas undergoing rapid change. Centaurea subsection Phalolepis has been thoroughly analyzed in previous studies using microsatellites in four centers of speciation: Anatolia, Greece, the Italian Peninsula and the Iberian Peninsula. Evidence suggests a correlation between taxon diversity and mountains. This group constituted a good case study for examining the mountain–geobiodiversity hypothesis (MGH), which explains the possible reasons for the many radiations occurring in mountains across the world. We combined all the datasets and carried out analyses of their genetic structure to confirm the species of subsect. Phalolepis are grouped according to a geographic pattern. We then checked whether climatic fluctuations favored the "species pump" hypothesis in the mountains by using the Climatic Stability Index (CSI). Finally, the relief of the terrain was tested against the rate of allopatric speciation by region by means of Terrain Ruggedness Index and environmental gradients through our new Climate Niche Breadth Index. Our results supported the MGH hypothesis and confirmed that the main triggers, namely altitudinal zonation, climatic oscillations and rugged terrain, must be present for the development of a radiation. Abstract: This paper presents the most comprehensive study conducted so far for evaluating the corrosion levels related to air quality and the seasonal pollutant (NO2, SO2, and O3) exposure levels over 50 monitoring stations distributed on the historical peninsula of Istanbul. Istanbul has been one of the most important as well as most populated major cities in the world during all the ages. Today, owing to its historical and cultural structures, the historical peninsula of Istanbul has become an attraction point of tourism and is one of the most unique and ancient urban settlement areas in the world. However, the cultural heritage stocks in the peninsula are under the risk of corrosion and critical air pollution level exposure caused by chemical reactions under the multi-pollutant situation of the air pollutants, principally SO2, NO2, and O3, as well as meteorological factors, e.g. humidity and temperature. In the present study, seasonal exposure of NO2, SO2, and O3 pollutants were monitored using passive samplers, and corrosion attack values were calculated using dose-response functions. The geostatistical analyst tool of ArcGIS® 9.1 was then used for generating GIS-based surface pollution and corrosion distribution maps. Subsequently, two hotspots were clearly identified, the tip of the peninsula and the area around the Ataturk Bridge, which fall under serious corrosion risks for copper, cast bronze, and carbon steel materials. However, no significant risk was identified for cultural heritage materials made of limestone in the peninsula. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: This paper is a review of recent data exploring the subsistence patterns of the prehistoric populations living between 12 ka and 6 ka BP on the long and narrow Gallipoli (Gelibolu) Peninsula, situated between the Marmara and Aegean Seas. Located in southern Thrace, the sea level fluctuations were different in the north and south of the peninsula. Previously, the earliest human occupation traces from Southern Turkish Thrace came from Neolithic sites ca. 8500 BP, including Hoca Çeşme, Hamaylitarla and Kaynarca. In 2011, reconnaissance work discovered clear indications of Palaeolithic localities including Üçdutlar that may date as early as Early Upper Paleolithic. On the Gallipoli Peninsula, a site of nearly 2.5 ha yielded a prehistoric flaked stone industry, with traits earlier than Neolithic. Despite the proximity of this Palaeolithic site to the sea, the Neolithic sites on the peninsula are usually found far from the coast, some km inland. Since the arrival of Turkish military forces on the island of Cyprus in 1974, archaeological activity below the water in northern Cyprus has been virtually non-existent. In August 2008, however, an international team conducted an underwater survey in this disputed region to document and assess the variety of maritime cultural heritage present along part of the coastline. İçmeler Bay' recreational coast, Dilek Peninsula Büyük Menderes Delta National Park, was surveyed to determine visitor-sourced litter types and cleanliness levels. Litter types and pollution were compared in terms of recreational uses and esthetic quality. Visitors rated the offensiveness of 17 several litter items that were found in the Bay. Finally, visitors evaluated the cleanliness and crowdedness of the Bay and the adequacy of trash cans. Litters were counted at 192 samplings, and 384 questionnaires were completed from July to August 2018. The results indicate that OR (Organic litter) (53.14%) and PL (plastic) (29.06%) were the common litter material in the litter composition. The cleanliness level was C (Dirty) (grades on A-D). A weakly significant negative correlation (r = –0.463, p = 0.000) was found between the offensiveness ranks of the litter types and the abundance of these litter types in the park. The park was dirty (69%), crowded (72.7%), and the numbers of facilities were insufficient (59.4%) according to most visitors. For minimizing the environmental and social impacts of littering, it is considered that the visitor management plan should be prepared urgently and littering management actions should be defined in this plan. Al-rich spinels were rarely reported compared to Cr-spinels, which were mostly observed in ophiolitic rocks. Pleonaste [(Mg, Fe2+)Al2O4], which is an Al-rich spinel, was observed in the ophiolitic mafic-ultramafic rocks tectonically located in the Early Cretaceous accretionary complex, at the eastern part of the Armutlu peninsula, NW Turkey. The ophiolitic mafic-ultramafic rocks have cumulate character, and most of them are represented by peridotite and pyroxenite. Pleonaste was observed in pyroxenites and gabbros of the ophiolitic rocks. Pyroxenites consist mainly of clinopyroxene + orthopyroxene + amphibole ± olivine + spinel. Gabbros are composed of clinopyroxene + orthopyroxene + amphibole + plagioclase + spinel. Pleonaste in these rocks lies parallel to the magmatic layers and is distinguished by its emerald greenish color under the microscope. Pleonastes have high Al2O3 (59.65-62.24 wt.%) and low Cr2O3 (0.05-1.32 wt.%) contents with Mg# and Fe3+# ranging from 54.23 to 59.77 and 3.83 to 4.28, respectively. Petrographical observations and the pressure-temperature (P-T) pseudosection modelling suggest that pleonaste in the mafic-ultramafic rocks from the study area crystallized during magmatic processes. Presence of amphibole and Ca-rich (An % 85-88) plagioclase in these rocks suggests that the ophiolitic rocks, located in the Early Cretaceous accretionary complex at the eastern part of Armutlu peninsula, formed from an arcrelated hydrous magma source.
