Fraud presents a serious problem and arising issue for all of society at national and global levels. According to global fraud research conducted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, it is estimated that the average company loses about 5% of its annual revenue due to different types of business fraud. Total estimated annual fraud losses according to global ACFE research reaches about 4.7 trillion dollars. Business frauds also present an important issue for the Croatian economy, business community and society as a whole. Thereby, considerable attention should be given to this issue with the aim of raising awareness throughout society on fraud and its negative and destructive impact on all of society. The main purpose of this paper is to examine differences in fraud characteristics between state-owned and private companies in the Republic of Croatia. Research was based on data on business frauds obtained by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Croatia which included 124 respondents. Data were related to frauds that occurred in Croatian companies in 2021 and 2020. In this paper we focused on fraud characteristics such as fraud loss, type of fraud, fraud duration and methods of fraud detection in order to determine whether fraud in privately owned companies differs significantly from fraud in state-owned companies. Research results revealed how differences in fraud characteristics among privately and state-owned companies exist. Based on a sample of Croatian companies that were victims of fraud, it is noted how fraud in state-owned companies lasts longer and creates greater loses in comparison to fraud in private owned companies. Moreover, data related to estimated fraud loss and fraud duration were statistically significant in terms of differentiating these two groups of companies. Based on data on discriminatory variables a logistic regression model correctly classified 78.46% of companies in the group of companies that are privately or state-owned. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses changes in corporate environmental performance in the pulp manufacturing industry. A study of 14 pulp manufacturing mills is looked at. The author notes the reputation of pulp mills as a heavily-polluting sector subject to the scrutiny of regulatory and environmental agencies. The motivation of firms to achieve compliance in environmental law is considered. The majority of improvements in environmental performance are the result of expensive investments in new technologies mandated by the tightening of firms' regulatory licenses. The effects of environmental management are discussed, including five different types of environmental management styles.

The global rise of China in the last three decades has reshuffled power dynamics in the global economy, including the global balance of power in employment relations. Since 2000, global FDI inflows into China have more than quadrupled, but also, something less noticed by research, China's FDI outflows have increased more than hundredfold, and by 2015 had overtaken the inward flows (UNCTAD data). When participants in introductory business courses encounter the term "operations strategy," it is not easy for them to appreciate what operations strategy is about, or how it fits with overall business strategy. This game breaks down highfalutin jargon into experiences that participants can readily relate to. While working in teams to make paper boats, and competing with other teams, participants realize that they have intuitively engaged in the formulation and implementation of their team's operations strategy. They begin to appreciate the interplay between the customer's requirements, their own team's strengths, the "competitive priorities" that their team must emphasize, and the tradeoffs inherent in making these decisions. SUMMARY A number of variations of evolutionary operation have been devised since the technique was originally described by G. E. P. Box. One of these variants-Simplex evolutionary operation--is described in this article. The method appears to be particularly suitable for application in the paper industry in which more traditional forms of experimentation are often unsuccessful. Some examples of the use of both the original and Simplex forms of EVOP are described. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

REAL options (Finance) ,RAINBOWS ,MERGERS & acquisitions ,INDUSTRIAL management ,CORPORATE finance ,VALUATION - Abstract
Recent years have seen increasing initiatives involving more applications of real options to value the strategizing process. These initiatives, referred to as Real Option Theory (ROT), imply greater inclusiveness of simple and advanced real options in strategizing processes. While substantial theoretical groundwork on ROT has been laid in corporate finance, and both qualitative and quantitative studies on ROT in business management journals are appearing on an increasing basis, there remain significant opportunities for more research on strategic synergism in patent-based acquisitions. In this vein, the current paper aims to explore a rainbow real options application (real options that are exposed to two sources of uncertainty) to measure patent-based collaborative synergies in high-tech mergers and acquisitions. Having conducted the deviant case study of ZOOX start-up's acquisition by Amazon.com in 2020, this paper justifies the proposition of the employability of rainbow real options for the valuation of network and relational synergies in highly risky patent-based acquisitions with multiple uncertainties. Adequate enterprise financial risk management (EFRM) represents a leading competitive advantage of enterprises that determines market survival and business success in an uncertain global environment. Over time, EFRM has become a constituent part of integral business dealings of enterprises and one of the strategic functions of enterprise management. The main purpose of the paper is to explore the effects of the EFRM function/system on the financial performance of enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The basic source of data in the research was collected by means of a structured questionnaire. The target population in the research consists of large enterprises that have continuously operated in the territory of BiH (2013-2017). The selection of enterprises was made applying a random sampling method and contains 72 enterprises. Appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used in the data analysis and panel data analysis was used to assess effects of EFRM function on financial performance. The scientific contribution of the paper is reflected in the fact that the research is pioneering for Bosnia and Herzegovina with the analysis of effects of the EFRM function on enterprise financial performance (EFP). The results show that there are no systematic, statistically significant differences between large enterprises that engage in risk management ('hedgers') and enterprises that do not engage in risk management ('non-hedgers') in BiH. INDUSTRIALISM ,REMAINING useful life ,MACHINE learning ,INDUSTRIAL management ,DEEP learning - Abstract
In the last decade, the adoption of technological tools in manufacturing industry, such as the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine Learning (ML), has led to the advent of the industry 4.0 (I4.0). In this scenario, intelligent devices can generate large volumes of data about industrial machinery and equipment that can be used to make maintenance more efficient. Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) is an emerging maintenance strategy that uses systems' Condition Monitoring through IoT sensors installed on machinery to diagnose their faults or estimate their Remaining Useful Life (RUL). This study aims to conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on the use of ML techniques in the field of PHM of industrial mechanical systems and equipment. 50 studies resulted eligible for the above-mentioned SLR. Diagnostics and prognostics approach and the ML algorithm types used in the 50 analyzed papers have been analyzed together with the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) used for their validation. From the analyses, it was found that Shallow Learning and Deep Learning (DL) algorithms are the most applied ones, while KPIs are used differently according to the type of task classification or regression. Moreover, results highlighted that many authors still use artificial datasets to test their algorithms, instead of datasets based on real data retrieved by their components. For the last type of datasets, this paper also introduces a schematic framework to standardize the step-by-step diagnostics and prognostics process carried out by the authors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have been known for their contribution to increase employment rate in developing economies such as Indonesia. With regard to this, the Indonesian Government launched many programs to empower MSMEs. One of these programs, called Appropriate Technology for MSMEs Program-called Iptekda LIPI, has been implemented since 1998; however, owing to the low productivity and limited competitiveness of MSMEs this program has not been successful. The aim of the study is to examine the barriers of MSMEs' competitiveness from the perspective of the technology diffusion policy in Indonesia. The research will address two questions: (1) what are the challenges faced by MSMEs in applying technology for their business, and (2) what are the strategies for improving technology diffusion that will result in MSMEs' success? To answer such questions, this paper will apply the case study of six MSMEs in West Java. The research will apply a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with six owners of MSMEs in a research context. The findings of the research indicate that the challenges of the program are closely intertwined with the interest and responsiveness of the change agent and the owners of MSMEs. The study recommends a bottom-up approach to technology diffusion for MSMEs and provides a model of MSMEs' empowerment through the diffusion of technology mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present evolution of production systems and markets is forcing producers, distributors and vendors to integrate their operations into large-scale networks of different services for managing materials and products, information and capitals, i.e. into a 'supply chain.' 'Integration' seems to be the new paradigm in organizing business lines, and 'supply chain management' seems to be the related organization approach that can help in managing interactions among concurrent firms as well as markets. However, supply chains are really complex systems, and their management is a really complex task in which the cooperation of several intelligent agents together and their finalization to common industrial goals need methods and procedures that are still either to be developed or, at the least, to be widely validated. The actual goal for an effective supply chain management is to obtain a good integration of all intelligent agents, such as to make each local strategy as cooperative as possible. This paper will analyse the basic concepts of supply chain management, with the aim of presenting a set of design criteria that could drive a designer in organizing more efficient management systems. The research reviews conducted by Lo and Chai ([2012]. Quantitative analysis of quality management literature published in total quality management and business excellence (1996–2010). Total Quality Management & Business Excellence, 23(5-6), 629–651. doi:10.1080/14783363.2012.669553) and Dereli et al. ([2011]. An analysis of the papers published in total quality management & business excellence from 1995 through 2008. Total Quality Management & Business Excellence, 22(3), 373–386. doi:10.1080/14783363.2010.532337) were based on TQM&BE, and together they covered the period between 1995 and 2010. The limitation of these two studies is that the study period ended in 2010. Accordingly, this study extends those previous studies by reviewing papers published between 2010 and 2019. TQM&BE is a suitable object for analysis because it is one of the top journals cited in the quality management field and plays a key role in the quality and scientific knowledge of TQM. This study demonstrated the feasibility of using the (self-organizing map) SOM algorithm to build a topic map. The SOM technique is one of the most popular artificial neural networks (ANNs). Based on this map, six topic areas were identified. In addition, the new identified themes after 2010 include the BE framework, and innovation, learning, team, and design. The results also showed that research on TQM&BE has undergone a shift in focus from a dominance of TQM to service quality, (International Organization for Standardization) ISO, and innovation and learning. Finally, the results showed that the SOM can be considered as a technique for developing topic maps for academic research reviews. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose - In the literature authors state that there is a positive relation between supply chain integration (SCI) and performance. They claim that this relation is widely discussed and supported empirically. Other authors, however, suggest that integration might be more difficult in practice than in theory, that it should be differentiated and that it is more rhetoric than reality. As integration has been core of logistics and supply chain management since the 1980s, the purpose of this paper is to investigate these somewhat contradictory statements and analyse prior studies regarding definitions and measures of integration and performance as well as the reported empirical evidence on their relation. Design/methodology/approach - Based on an extensive and systematic review of integration articles within four highly ranked academic journals in logistics, supply chain and operations management, this paper presents and discusses the results of prior empirical studies on relations between integration and performance. Findings - The analysis of the relevant articles indicates that empirical evidence cannot permit to clearly conclude and that integration as well as performance is defined, operationalised and measured in different and often limited ways. This might be a problem and the paper concludes with a provoking question of whether SCI might be the Emperors' New Suit of business. Originality/value - The paper's departure point is a controversial hypothesis: the contribution of SCI is not as obvious as logistics and supply chain researchers usually think. The rigorous selection and analysis of previous studies contributes with systematic knowledge within an important question. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RESEARCH , *CONTROLLERSHIP , *INDUSTRIAL management , *ACCOUNTING , *MANAGEMENT controls - Abstract
This article aims to outline a profile of Controllership research in papers published in the annals of the National Association of Post-Graduate Programs and Research in Business Administration (EnANPAD) meeting and the USP Controllership and Accountancy Congress, from 2001 to 2006. The adopted research methodology comprised an exploratory study, with documentary analysis and a quantitative approach. The research results showed the main themes of these works, the adopted research methods, the different approaches to the study of Controllership, the researchers' affiliations and the bibliography consulted and referenced in the articles. It was concluded that, even though more papers were published in 2005, the volume is still small when compared to other themes focused on at these events. The small number of articles may also have been influenced by the search technique employed for selecting works, using the words Controllership, Controller, Management Accounting and Management Control, contained in the title, abstract or keywords. Nevertheless, this study is relevant to the extent that it contributes to the identifi cation of the qualitative and quantitative evolution of Controllership research in Brazil. Wasta is a concept that is widespread across the Middle East, and practiced as a common and acceptable culture in most Middle East based business organizations. While the wasta practice is common and is followed as part of the usual organizational culture in the Middle East, yet, its implications are not all positive for the overall employee and organizational performance, which will be highlighted in the current paper in detail. It encourages interpersonal connections and networking of individuals to be used in order to obtain jobs, based on personnel connection rather than merit, which has huge negative impacts on the business. This paper, therefore, presents a detailed discussion on wasta and its implications considering business organizations across the Middle East. The tourism sector will be the area of the focus for the present work. The impacts of such activities on the tourism sector are significant on recruitment, teamwork, training, reward system, and overall HRM practices, which raise questions on whether this concept should indeed be as common in practice as it is currently. This paper studied the phenomena of wasta in the Middle East in details and proposed framework for Wasta-free Management. Also, recommendation for practice for tourism sector in the middle East along with suggestions for further research are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Green credit is changing industrial structure and corporate behavior, but little attention has been paid to the relationship between green credit and corporate cash management behavior. Based on the typical fact that the allocation of traditional bank credit funds is biased towards heavily polluting industries and the exogenous impact event of green credit policy, this paper takes A-share listed companies in China's capital market from 2008 to 2015 as samples, and uses the DID model to investigate the impact of green credit policy on excess cash holdings of heavily polluting enterprises. The findings indicate that the green credit policy has reduced the excessive cash holdings of heavily polluting enterprises, suggesting that it can correct the issue and align their cash holdings with the requirements of normal production and operations. The mechanism test demonstrates that the green credit policy can alleviate agency conflicts and influence enterprise cash holdings. Moreover, a cross-sectional investigation reveals that the inhibitory effect of the green credit policy on cash holdings is more pronounced in large-scale and state-owned enterprises compared to small-scale and non-state-owned enterprises. Finally, an analysis of the economic consequences reveals that the green credit policy indirectly enhances corporate value by reducing excessive cash holdings. Based on this, banks and financial institutions continue to treat the credit granting of heavily polluting enterprises cautiously, optimize the structure of green financial products, fully consider the different types and nature of customers, and develop differentiated lending conditions and diversified evaluation mechanisms. This paper has enriched the research on the economic consequences of green credit and the influencing factors of corporate cash holdings, and provided policy enlightenment for regulators and listed companies to correctly understand and make full use of green credit policies to keep corporate cash stable through the crisis. LOANS ,INDUSTRIAL management ,SUSTAINABLE investing ,FINANCIAL risk ,PARIS Agreement (2016) - Abstract
Purpose: The fundamental objective of the study is to characterise the features that accompany ESG risk management processes in Polish companies financing green investments with a bank credit. Design approach: The study focuses on the observation of changes occurring in the concept and processes of ESG risk management following the so-called Paris Agreement of 2015. The EU regulations standardising the ESG risk management process in companies and banks have been analysed, indicating the differences resulting from them. The inclusion of ESG risks both in creditors and credit recipients is achieved through various channels, determining the extent, and expected outcomes of green investments. Without a doubt, the issue has been receiving considerable research attention in many papers since the energy crisis caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. However, in light of EU regulatory changes and the increased interest of business entities in green financing, uncertainties, and research problems are on the rise in this area. An evident limitation of the conducted research is the lack of empirical data completing the knowledge on the effects of ESG strategies both domestically and in EU member states. Therefore, the paper draws on questionnaire surveys conducted by the authors, as well as on the findings of various reports published on the subject. Findings: The research shows that EU regulations increase the security of financing green investments in both companies and banks. The concept of sustainable development and ESG risk management associated with it have been severely curtailed through their introduction. Nevertheless, there is a fairly substantial area of uncertainty associated with the process of financing green investments. The study analyses its determinants indicating that internal ESG risk management procedures of companies and banks do not eliminate the external risks of financing corporate green investments. Originality/value: The conducted research undoubtedly broadens the knowledge about the role and significance of ESG risk in the green investment financing process. The analysis of studies relating to ESG risk, taking into consideration EU documents, contributed to exposing unexplained, debatable, and unsolvable issues. The questionnaire survey as well as the secondary data obtained made it possible to verify the number of common opinions and statements, along with the main hypothesis of the paper. Purpose: The paper's main aim is a holistic presentation of genuine motives, strategies and patterns of earnings management phenomenon in public companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Design/methodology/approach: The survey was carried out among 124 finance managers and public companies' accounting services representatives from the Polish capital market. The research sample selection was random (exhaustive testing); the survey was conducted in June-August 2023. Findings: During the research, it turned out that 29% of respondents admitted to implementing EM practices in firms they represent. Interviewees declared the use of various accrual-based and real EM instruments in a complementary way. The dominant EM strategies proved to be income smoothing and avoidance of earnings reduction, while the main reasons for EM implementation respondents included creating the image of a more profitable company (compared to the largest competitors), meeting market analysts' expectations regarding the level of reported financial result and showing better development prospects for the company. Research limitations/implications: This paper allows for identifying the level of willingness to implement earnings management practices among executives of public companies and, as well as measuring the awareness of finance managers and representatives of accounting services regarding the possibilities of using particular instruments and techniques of accrualbased and real earnings management in business practice. Originality/value: This study fills a gap in the literature regarding the accounting data quality reported among listed companies in Poland. Most studies on the issue of earnings management focus on estimating the scale and scope of the practices mentioned above using specific regression models. Empirical research based on survey techniques in which respondents professionally responsible for financial reporting in listed companies would present their views or experiences regarding earnings management is rarely seen. SUSTAINABILITY ,INDUSTRIAL management ,ECONOMIC development ,SOCIAL change - Abstract
All organizations are impacted by sustainability, both positively and negatively. It is therefore important to assess the sustainability of any human activity, product, or development. Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) is one of the most effective methods for assessing sustainability. The significance of this study is that it highlights significant and key ideas in the subject of LCSA, including research commonality, research trends, model shortcomings, existing appropriate methods, and research gaps using a systematic review of the literature and bibliometric analysis. The developing tendency of reviewing suggests that while sustainability issues are a severe problem for all countries, they will continue to rule social, economic, and environmental issues in the years to come. There are still a lot of uncharted territories. The study found that energy was the most popular topic among related areas of LCSA application. According to the research findings, it was also suggested that LCSA could be improved in future research in the following areas: the development of impact categories to enable study comparison, the definition of coherent system boundaries, the development of impact assessment methodologies, the development of trustworthy databases to enable the evaluation of economic and social perspectives, the development of tools for performing uncertainty analysis and communication strategies. To advance technique development and comprehend the interplay between environmental, economic, and social aspects, more case studies are required. It is envisaged that the development and application of LCSA will contribute to the accomplishment of Sustainable Development Goals across a range of international locations, businesses, and goods. This paper is intended to provide a scoping review on interfaces in service modularity. There is little detailed understanding of this concept despite its attributed importance. We identified 12 papers, showing that interfaces in service modularity are an area still open to research, especially with regard to interfaces that cross organisational boundaries. We found common themes in the available literature: the nature of interfaces, service fragmentation and predefined interfaces. Further research is needed on interfaces in service modularity, especially for complex services with components that stem from multiple, autonomous organisations. More specifically, there is a need for more studies that explore in detail how interfaces manifest themselves, and how they can be addressed to improve complex service provision. In addition, we argue why healthcare could be an interesting domain in which to conduct those studies. Our paper’s contribution comprises a detailed description of interfaces in service modularity, the dissemination of summarised research findings and suggestions for potential future research. This article presents information on the Leading Edge Paper Products, a complex management simulation created in Great Britain in 1990 by a team at the Cambridge Management Centres, now a part of consulting firm ASK Europe PLC and recently updated and introduced to North America. The objectives of the participants within this business leadership simulation are to make sense of large amounts of information about a fictional business, to create possible solutions to the issues found in the data, to share and seek relevant information, issues, and ideas with other participants, to create corporate strategies and prioritize actions, to influence and lead other participants, and to prepare and give a preliminary strategic plan for the company. The simulation requires a room set-up that simulates a business office, with office spaces for all participants. This can be done in a large meeting room, using tables as desks.

RISK management in business ,INDUSTRIAL management ,RISK exposure ,INSURANCE financing ,INDUSTRIAL safety - Abstract
During 1992, the "Journal of Risk and Insurance (JRI)," adopted a new, more clearly articulated objective. To be the world's best refereed journal specializing in risk and insurance. Risk and insurance is broadly defined to include insurance economics, industrial organization of insurance markets, insurance finance, public and private risk management, economics of pensions and benefit plans, actuarial science, and other relevant areas. The JRI also adopted a new reviewing system in 1992. Under the new procedures, the associate editors serve as principal reviewers of most papers submitted to the JRI. A second reviewer is also selected by the editor. Both the associate editors and the reviewers send their reviews directly to the editor. Eighty-one papers were submitted to the JRI during 1992. The numbers of papers submitted in 1989, 1990, and 1991 were 96, 66, and 89, respectively. However, during those years, papers submitted as shorter articles were not included in the totals. For example, including shorter article submissions, the number submitted in 1991 was 119.

The ISO 22000 standard is a relatively new approach to the EU markets. Nowa-days popularity of that system is rising among food sector companies. It unifies the requirements concerning food production. Its subject of interest and structure are very similar to the ISO 9001 standard. This article discusses if the above standards are complementing each other or if they are simply interchangeable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In popular management literature corporations are sometimes loosely compared to cults. The comparison is a severe allegation as it implies the transgression of subordinate employees' integrity. This paper explores to what extent such comparisons with cults are warranted as well as the implications this has for the practice of corporate culture management. On grounds of the author's unique, first-hand experience in both corporate and cultic environments a retrospective autoethnographic (RAE) approach was chosen to further explore the supposed resemblance. The comparison is structured along Lifton's eight criteria of thought reform and reveals that although akin to cults in all aspects corporations also fundamentally differ due to the infeasibility, at least for now, of controlling the corporate environment in totalist fashion. This might explain why so many attempts to change corporate cultures fail as these initiatives are based on the anachronistic idea that culture change can be "implemented" by somehow "inculcating" employees with "company values." A sanitized form of brainwashing that fails in the corporate environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The continuous and systematic redesign of key business processes is very important for businesses and organizations that seek to achieve cost savings and efficiency enhancements. Selecting the most impactful processes and ensuring a successful redesign initiative remains an important topic that motivated the authors to conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on Business Process Redesign (BPR) Evaluation methodologies by applying an established eight-step SLR guide. The review sheds light on the current state of research and highlights the research gap by considering two dimensions of BPR artifacts: (a) the type of evaluation and (b) the generalizability of the existing approaches. The findings indicate that there is a lack of systematic methodologies in literature that properly evaluate the redesign capacity of models prior to implementation. Additionally, the existing methodologies do not cumulatively evaluate the quality characteristics that are necessary for BPR implementation or the applicability of BPR heuristics, and do not bear the generalizability to be readily used in a more general context. This paper aims to provide researchers with the necessary context and motivation to bridge this gap and further systematize BPR methodologies that can preselect the most suitable business processes for redesign. Purpose: This paper examines how manufacturing firms impacted by the nitrogen oxides (NO
x ) Budget Trading Program (NBP) strategically managed working capital to release funds for increased costs and mitigate the negative impact on firm performance. Design/methodology/approach: The study uses a panel data set including 11,302 manufacturing firm-year observations listed on the US exchanges during the period 2000–2008. The authors use Tobin's Q to proxy for firm performance, and cash holding, cash conversion cycle (CCC), days sales outstanding (DSO), days sales inventory (DSI) and days payable outstanding (DPO) for working capital management (WCM). The empirical analysis is conducted using both ordinary least squares (OLS) and propensity score matching (PSM) regressions. Findings: The authors find that firms respond to the higher utility costs imposed by the NBP by decreasing CCC, DSO and DSI. This active WCM response partially mitigated the impact of increased compliance costs on performance for firms affected by the NBP. Results are robust in PSM regressions. Research limitations/implications: Climate change is a global issue that has attracted increasing attention in recent years. This study shows how firms can adjust short-term financing strategies to address the costs of compliance with climate change regulation. Originality/value: The paper contributes to the emerging literature on corporate finance and climate policy actions. The authors use the unique experimental setting of the NBP to examine the regulatory impact on corporate financial management. The authors demonstrate how firms used active WCM to mitigate the negative performance impact of regulatory compliance with the NBP, providing novel insight on the implication of compliance with climate change legislation. Information technology poses many challenges both to general management and to the IT industry itself. After extrapolating some of the technological trends that could have significant impacts on commercial and public sector IT in the 1990, the paper reviews four major challenges. These are the need to develop IT strategies, both nationally and for individual organisations; the need to create alliances: the need to avoid misalliances; mechanisms for converting ideas into action. A considerable emphasis is placed on the need to understand the managerial environment within which IT is used, and to see IT as only one element within wider organisational systems.
