The aim of this paper is to study the influence of the current regulatory environment on the investment decisions of sustainability-oriented institutional investorswithin theGerman-speaking region of Europe. Through the use of a structured questionnaire, aimed at institutional investors, this paper presents detailed insights into the preferences of investors when purchasing green bonds, bonds that contribute to reducing or preventing adverse effects stemming fromclimate change. After analysing our sample of 179 participants, it is demonstrated that the credibility of a green bond is a basic prerequisite for an investor to purchase such an instrument. Additionally, the attractiveness of green bonds is influenced by financial factors such as tax incentives as well as the interest rate environment. Furthermore, this paper studies the influence of environmental, social and governance (esg) strategies on green bond investment decisions, where it is revealed that the environmental pillar is the most important for investors. Purpose: The aim of the article is to assess the role of the green bond market in financing investment activities in the field of energy transition. Attention was focused on the European green bond market, considered the most mature and developed market for assets of this class. Design/methodology/approach: Critical analysis of domestic and foreign scientific achievements regarding the development and importance of the green bond market in the energy transition process. Analysis of secondary data from statistical reports showing the state of development and the degree of use of the green bond market in financing energy transition tasks in 2014-2022. Findings: On the basis of the conducted research, it is concluded that the European green bond market is developing quite dynamically, and its structure is dominated by issues of green bonds intended to finance expenditures supporting the energy transition process. Originality/value: The green bond market - due to its relatively short history of operation, high dynamics of value growth and internal diversification process - is a relatively new object of research in economic sciences. Motivation: The interest in sustainable, socially, environmentally and climatically stable development of the economy is growing. At the same time, issuers and investors are looking for financial instruments with which they can achieve their investment goals. The idea of the green bond market is to develop debt instruments in financing projects contributing to ecologically sustainable development, which should have a direct impact on the development of technologies and practices in the area of resource use that contribute to limiting adverse climate change. Bonds for financing or refinancing renewable energy sources and increasing energy efficiency are seen as a natural part of the transformation of the global economy. Aim: The purpose of the article is to present an analysis and goals of green bond market in Europe based on currency of issue, geographic structure, issue period, sectors and issue targets as well as major stock exchanges on which green bonds are listed. Results: Relevant data on the green bond market in Europe was analyzed and the objectives of issuing green debt finance in particular sectors by number of emission were identified. This article empirically investigates whether the introduction of green bond policies by European insurance companies has a positive impact on their equity prices. To this end, we employ a sample of listed (re)insurers in Europe using monthly data for the 2012–2019 period. We use announcements, press releases and semi-annual or annual reports to determine when the insurance companies committed to a green investment, to the issuance of green bonds or to launching a green fund. Our empirical analysis did not confirm the positive effect of green policies. However, when investigating different types of green policies, our results suggest that market investors positively price the issuance of green bonds and launching green funds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
