With the introduction of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs), the integrated control of traffic signals, lane assignments, and vehicle trajectories becomes feasible, offering notable benefits for enhancing intersection operations. However, during the prolonged transition to an entirely CAV environment, how to fully leverage the advantage of CAVs while considering the characteristics of human‐driven vehicles remains a huge challenge. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a joint optimization method for spatiotemporal resources at isolated intersections under mixed‐autonomy traffic conditions. Initially, the lane assignment optimization problem is modeled as a mixed integer linear program model to maximize the reserve capacity. Subsequently, the signal‐vehicle coupled control is formulated as a dynamic programming model with the objective of reducing vehicle travel time. Additionally, criteria are established to assess the need for re‐optimizing lane assignments. Simulations validate the superiority of the proposed control method over adaptive control in terms of traffic efficiency and intersection capacity amid substantial traffic demand fluctuations. Sensitivity analyses reveal that the proposed control method can yield higher benefits under medium traffic demand levels. This paper presents in-depth research and analysis of the optimization method of tourist traffic routes using the adaptive cuckoo algorithm. The traditional cuckoo algorithm has the disadvantages of slow convergence speed and easy falling into local extremes. This paper proposes the iterative adaptive CHSACS algorithm based on iteration. Based on the original CS algorithm, a dynamic adaptive step control amount and a segmented weighted position update formula are introduced to give a class of improved CS algorithms to coordinate the problem of local search and global search of the CS algorithm and speed up the convergence speed at the later stage. To address the problem that the out-of-bounds nests interfere with the convergence of the algorithm, a memory strategy is introduced to relocate the out-of-bounds nests in the search space to improve the stability of the algorithm. Experiments are conducted on the iterative adaptive-based conductive CHSACS algorithm with test function sets. Compared with the original CS algorithm, and ACO algorithm, the CHSACS algorithm has faster convergence, higher search accuracy and a better ability to avoid local optima when dealing with continuous function optimization problems. For the dynamic travel path problem of travel time optimization, the road travel time and sightseeing time of different periods are predicted based on historical data, and the most traveled distance of travel time between two sights is dynamically searched by using the search mechanism based on time windows. The iterative adaptive CHSACS algorithm is used to continuously find the tourist traffic route with the shortest travel time travel path from all combinations of tour sequences. This paper combines the characteristics of bus vehicle scheduling itself, takes into account the interests of both bus companies and tourists, establishes a bus vehicle scheduling model with the departure interval as the independent variable, introduces this hybrid cuckoo algorithm into bus scheduling, verifies the scientific and feasibility of the algorithm through examples, and provides a new idea for solving bus scheduling optimization problems. Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is the core building block of future full autonomous driving. Numerous recent research demonstrated that Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) adopting shorter headways generally increase road capacity and may relieve congestion at bottlenecks for moderate demand scenarios. However, with high demand scenarios, bottlenecks can still be activated causing capacity breakdown. Therefore, extra control measures as dynamic traffic control near bottlenecks is necessary. The challenge is harder on urban freeways with consecutive bottlenecks which affect each other. This paper aims to improve the performance of ACC systems in a high demand scenario. A multi‐bottleneck dynamic headway control strategy based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL) that adapts headways to optimize traffic flow and minimize delay is proposed. The controller dynamically assigns an optimal headway for each controlled section, based on state measurement representing the current traffic conditions. The case study is a freeway stretch with three consecutive bottlenecks which is then extended to include eight bottlenecks. Three different RL agent configurations are presented and compared. It is quantitatively demonstrated that the proposed control strategy improves traffic and enhances the system delay by up to 22.30%, and 18.87% compared to shortest headway setting for the three‐bottleneck and the eight‐bottleneck networks, respectively. Deep reinforcement learning has found great successes in addressing many challenging control problems; however, real-world implementations are still scarce if not non-existent. This is primarily due to three main challenges pertaining to the implementation, the stability, the optimal settings, and a lack of knowledge on methods that can be applied to field settings. This research attempts to address these issues with an adaptive simulation-based control framework proposed specifically for the training and evaluation. The control framework has implemented simulation models to conduct an extensive sensitivity analysis on the effects of key design variables, including rewarding schemes, state spaces, and model training parameters. The feasibility of transfer learning as a training strategy is also studied on scenarios with different layouts and different driver behavior models. Complex scenarios are also evaluated and used as test cases, including multiphase ring-and-barrier control and multi-intersection control. The research has contributed a significant amount of evidence on several critical design and implementation-related questions such as input representation, data (technology) requirements, training methods, and model transferability. Background: The availability of private vehicles with autonomous features is widespread nowadays. Various car manufacturers are providing attributes like collision warning, city automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance and lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic and blind-spot warning in their high-end models. Purpose: Such features can automatically manage the macroscopic fundamental traffic parameters such as speed, headway, etc adaptively. Consequently leading to a heterogeneous traffic stream with diverse car-following behaviour comprising completely manual/traditional (TVs) and autonomous vehicles (AVs). This questions the applicability of classic traffic flow theory relationships on such heterogeneous traffic streams. Methodology: This paper focuses on developing the macroscopic fundamental diagram for such heterogeneous traffic streams based on the quantified penetration rate (QPR) for autonomous vehicles. The penetration rate is devised by taking into account user demographics, land usage and road network properties. QPR is used as an input for heterogeneous urban traffic stream scenarios to calculate the aggregated urban traffic network dynamics of flow and density for the same network. Travel time versus flow characteristics is evaluated based on calibrated hyperbolic urban link travel time function for both interrupted and uninterrupted flows following the aggregated speed and density output from MFDs for heterogeneous traffic streams. Also, two scenarios are generated for comparison to explain the improvement in the network characteristics together with a sensitivity analysis. Results: Compared to the base scenario there could be 25-35% of AVs on the road networks based on the analysis in coming fifteen years. This increment in usage impacts the capacity of road networks positively by increasing it up to 59%. Conclusions: Results obtained after the application of the suggested model approach to the real network can be used to define a realistic method for multi-vehicle equilibrium assignment models for heterogeneous traffic streams including autonomous vehicles instead of approximating the penetration rates. The optimization and control of traffic signals is very important for logistics transportation. It not only improves the operational efficiency and safety of road traffic, but also conforms to the direction of the intelligent, green, and sustainable development of modern cities. In order to improve the optimization effect of traffic signal control, this paper proposes a traffic signal optimization method based on deep reinforcement learning and Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) software for urban traffic scenarios. The intersection training scenario was established using SUMO micro traffic simulation software, and the maximum vehicle queue length and vehicle queue time were selected as performance evaluation indicators. In order to be more relevant to the real environment, the experiment uses Weibull distribution to simulate vehicle generation. Since deep reinforcement learning takes into account both perceptual and decision-making capabilities, this study proposes a traffic signal optimization control model based on the deep reinforcement learning Deep Q Network (DQN) algorithm by considering the realism and complexity of traffic intersections, and first uses the DQN algorithm to train the model in a training scenario. After that, the G-DQN (Grouping-DQN) algorithm is proposed to address the problems that the definition of states in existing studies cannot accurately represent the traffic states and the slow convergence of neural networks. Finally, the performance of the G-DQN algorithm model was compared with the original DQN algorithm model and Advantage Actor-Critic (A2C) algorithm model. Intelligent traffic light control is one of the modern approaches to solve traffic congestion, where reinforcement learning is a widely used method. Conventionally, reinforcement learning is used to determine whether to change the current phase (or choose a traffic phase) after each small interval. One major drawback of these approaches is that it makes the current traffic light phase duration uncertain before the current phase terminates. Directly determining the duration of the traffic light phase can effectively avoid this shortcoming. An adaptive traffic light timing system is proposed in this paper which can directly control the phase duration. In the proposed system, the Q-learning algorithm is employed and the action space is defined as all possible phase durations. In addition, the reward function is redefined to guide the agent to balance more traffic metrics, and the state is redefined to reduce the state space. Finally, the proposed system is evaluated by equal, unequal, and complex traffic scenarios. Cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) realizes efficient, intelligent control of vehicle acceleration, deceleration, and steering, through inter‐vehicle communication and cooperative control. However, the close combination of the platoon makes it difficult for other vehicles to cut‐in, which can lead to severe traffic jams on certain sections of the road. The control effect of the CACC depends on the platoon penetration rate, which is the percentage of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) in the total number of platoon members. There is no quantitative control method for different penetration rates, and it is difficult to quantify the impact of CACC vehicles on traffic. Therefore, this paper proposes an innovative CACC control method based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL). First, the altruism control and the quantitative control of the car‐following strategy are realized by the virtual car‐following distance method to reduce the exclusivity of the CACC platoon or improve the road utilization efficiency. Second, a more appropriate platoon reward function and collision avoidance method are proposed. Finally, the Car Learning to Act (CARLA) simulator is used. Traffic accidents are a leading cause of premature death for citizens, with millions of injuries and fatalities occurring annually. Due to the fact that a large proportion of accidents are caused by red light running, reduction of the frequency of red light running (RLR) has been extensively researched in recent years. However, most of the previous studies have focused on reducing RLR frequency through driver education or warning sign design, with little attention paid to the relationship between RLR behavior and traffic signal control. Considering RLR is significantly affected by the number of vehicles arriving during yellow, it is possible to identify RLR behaviors in advance by analyzing data on yellow-arriving vehicles. Meanwhile, based on the strong correlation between yellow arriving and RLR frequency, it is possible to reduce RLR by traffic signal control. In this paper, we propose a quantitative model of correlation between RLR frequency and yellow light arrival based on high-resolution traffic and signal event data from Twin Cities, Minnesota. On this basis, the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is implemented to find trade-offs between minimizing the RLR frequency and the traffic delay. A case study of a 6-intersection arterial road reveals that in unsaturation, saturation, and supersaturation flow, our approach can converge to a Pareto optimal front in 30–50 iterations, which shows that is possible to simultaneously reduce RLR frequency and enhance traffic efficiency safety, which is conducive to ensuring the life safety of traffic participants. Optimizing traffic control systems at traffic intersections can reduce the network-wide fuel consumption, as well as emissions of conventional fuel-powered vehicles. While traffic signals have been controlled based on predetermined schedules, various adaptive signal control systems have recently been developed using advanced sensors such as cameras, radars, and LiDARs. Among these sensors, cameras can provide a cost-effective way to determine the number, location, type, and speed of the vehicles for better-informed decision-making at traffic intersections. In this research, a new approach for accurately determining vehicle locations near traffic intersections using a single camera is presented. For that purpose, a well-known object detection algorithm called YOLO is used to determine vehicle locations in video images captured by a traffic camera. YOLO draws a bounding box around each detected vehicle, and the vehicle location in the image coordinates is converted to the world coordinates using camera calibration data. During this process, a significant error between the center of a vehicle's bounding box and the real center of the vehicle in the world coordinates is generated due to the angled view of the vehicles by a camera installed on a traffic light pole. As a means of mitigating this vehicle localization error, two different types of regression models are trained and applied to the centers of the bounding boxes of the camera-detected vehicles. The accuracy of the proposed approach is validated using both static camera images and live-streamed traffic video. Based on the improved vehicle localization, it is expected that more accurate traffic signal control can be made to improve the overall network-wide energy efficiency and traffic flow at traffic intersections. With the strengthening of the national policy of paying attention to people's livelihood, the speed of development, the increase of the number of cars, and the major demolition and construction of streets are in full swing everywhere. This paper analyses the management process of the vessel traffic control on one-way section on navigable canal with the adaptive time-sequential filter (traffic lights). One-way section on canal significantly decreases waterway capacity and requests special attention in control and regulation of the vessel traffic. The vessel traffic is a stochastic variable, and the vessel traffic control needs to be flexible and adaptive in order to achieve the required traffic flow with minimal delays. On the one-way section, two independent variable vessel flows from opposite directions are encountered, and fixed (predefined) signal plans lead to an increase in vessel delays. An appropriate solution is development of a Fuzzy Control System (FCS) for the vessel traffic control. A control algorithm is designed according to a set of linguistic rules that describes input parameters for the control strategy. The estimated and approximate input parameters are implemented in the algorithm as fuzzy sets. The final result of the developed algorithm is the traffic light scheme (duration of green light for certain direction). The presented control system can be used as an adaptive automatic control system for the vessel traffic control processes on navigable canals or on critical sections of other waterways. The optimization of intersection signal control can improve traffic efficiency, reduce congestion degree, and improve traffic safety. Aiming at implementing the coordinated adaptive traffic signal control (ATSC) across large-scale arterial network, multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) has been widely concerned and lucubrated. Nevertheless, the existing MARL-based ATSC studies suffers from several limitations: (1) While most existing researches focused on the mobility performance of controlled corridor, there calls for a methodology that aims at combine multi-objective performance on traffic safety, efficiency, and network coordination simultaneously; (2) Most methods ignore the correlations between multiple agents, nor considers the spatial–temporal dependencies among the corelated neighboring intersections due to high communications requirements, which can hardly be achieved in real adaptive coordination control. To overcome the aforementioned difficulties, a multi-objective reinforcement learning model (NACRL) for network-wide coordinated signal control is proposed. Firstly, to enforce a coordinated network control with safety and efficiency considerations, a reward mechanism inspecting both traffic safety and traffic efficiency indicators was designed to achieve ideal performance in terms of mobility, safety and smooth. Secondly, the proposed NACRL conducted a centralized training-decentralized execution framework, this overcomes the critical limitation of data transmission in the field implementation while explicitly analyzing the traffic state over the entire network instead of examining each isolated intersection. Last but not least, the proposed algorithm utilized the attention mechanism to dynamically capture the sophisticated spatial–temporal dependencies over the complex arterial network, which aids the better coordinated control over multi-agents deployed at the intersections across the corridor. To testify the effeteness of the proposed algorithm, extensive experiments were implemented in both large-scale synthetic traffic grid and real-world arterial network. The experiment demonstrated that the proposed NACRL algorithm outperforms other state-of-the-art baselines with simultaneously improved performance in terms of traffic safety, traffic efficiency and network coordination, as well as improved algorithm convergence and interpretability. A formation tracking control problem for uncertainty traffic cone robots (TCRs) is considered. In this paper, the TCRs can not only perform formation behaviors but also track placement targets under environmental constraints (i.e., the position constraints in the y -direction.). To deal with the environmental constraints, a differential homeomorphism transformation is selected to eliminate the constraints. Moreover, the uncertainty of the TCRs is bounded, including matching portions and mismatching portions. For the matching uncertainty, a series of adaptive parameters are introduced to estimate the real-time information of the uncertainty. The mismatching uncertainty is tackled by a geometric decomposition, which is orthogonal to the range space of the formation. At the same time, a fuzzy uncertainty optimization design problem is presented. The global solution to the resulting optimization problem always exists and is unique. Using adaptive robust control, TCRs' performance is deterministically and fuzzy-optimized. The development of high-definition (HD) maps has enabled predictive cruise control (PCC) systems to access additional road and traffic information. This study provides a novel control scheme of PCC, which utilizes HD map information. To minimize fuel consumption, the problem of the PCC is formulated as a nonlinear model predictive control, and the derivation and implementation of the fast solver are discussed. Then, a novel shift-map is proposed to define the different working regions to allow the application of the proposed PCC system. The use of the real-time HD map is discussed, and the proposed control scheme is evaluated through simulation and experimental tests. The total fuel-savings rates obtained with the PCC system and factory-installed ACC system over a 370 km route were compared. This paper is intended to improve the performance of signalized intersections, one of the most important systems of traffic control explained within the scope of smart transportation systems. These structures, which have the main role in ensuring the order and flow of traffic, are alternative systems depending on the different methods and techniques used. Determining the operation principles of these systems requires an extremely careful and planned study, considering their important role. Performance outputs obtained from the queue analyses made in previous studies formed the input of this study. The most important techniques are used in the effective control of intersections, such as signal timing: in particular, the use of effective green time and order of the transitions between phases. In this research, a traffic-sensitive signalized intersection control system was designed with the suggested methods against these two problems. The sample intersections were selected from three cities with the highest population density as the case study area. In the analysis of the performance of the connection arms of the selected intersections, flow intensity data were taken into consideration, as well as the arrival and service rates. Based on this, the outputs of the two proposed models regarding the use of phase transitions and effective green durations were compared with two other adaptive control systems and their positive results were shared. With recent development of mobile Internet technology and connected vehicle technology, vehicle trajectory data are readily available and exhibit great potential to be used as an alternative data source for urban traffic signal control. In this study, a Queue Intensity Adaptive (QIA) algorithm is proposed, using vehicle trajectory data as the only input to perform adaptive signal control. First, a Kalman filter-based method is employed to estimate real-time queue state with vehicle trajectories. Then, based on queue intensity that quantifies queuing pressure, five control situations are defined, and different min-max optimization models are designed correspondingly. Last, a situation-aware signal control optimization procedure is developed to adapt intersection's queue intensity. QIA algorithm optimizes phase sequence and green time simultaneously. One case study was conducted at a field intersection in Shenzhen, China. The results show that provided with 7.4% penetrated vehicle trajectories, QIA algorithm effectively prevented queue spillback by constraining temporal percentage of queue spillback under 2.4%. The performance of QIA was also compared with the algorithm in Synchro and Max Pressure (MP) method. It was found that compared with Synchro, the extreme queue intensity, temporal percentage of queue spillback, delay, and stops were decreased by 54.7%, 97%, 22.3%, and 45.1%, respectively, and compared with MP the above four indices were decreased by 16%, 61.5%, −1.8%, and 49.4%, respectively. In this paper, to fully utilize the urban traffic flow characteristics of similarity and repeatability without using a mathematical traffic model, a data‐driven urban traffic control strategy based on model‐free adaptive iterative learning control (MFAILC) scheme is put forward. Firstly, by dynamically linearizing the urban traffic dynamics along the iteration axis, the traffic network system is transformed into a MFAILC data model with the help of repetitive pattern of urban traffic flow. Then, the traffic controller is designed based on the derived MFAILC data model only using the I/O data of the traffic network. With the emerging application of low-level driving automation technology, heterogeneous traffic flow mixed with human-driven vehicles and low-level autonomous vehicles is dawning. In this context, it is imperative to investigate its effect on mixed traffic flow. As a key component for adaptive cruise control (ACC) which is a practical low-level application of driving automation, the time gap policy determines the dynamic of ACC-equipped vehicles and plays a crucial role in traffic flow stability and efficiency. There are two main time gap policies used for ACC at present, namely, constant time gap (CTG) policy and variable time gap (VTG) policy. In this study, we carried out a detailed comparison between these time gap policies to investigate their potential effect on mixed traffic flow, where the analytical- and simulation-based approaches are both considered. Analytical results show that VTG policy is superior to CTG policy in stabilizing the mixed traffic flow. In addition, numerical simulations are also conducted and simulation results further support the analytical results. As for throughput, there is no difference between CTG policy and VTG policy in analytical progress when the same time gap is set at the equilibrium. However, simulation results based on an on-ramp scenario show that the throughput of mixed traffic flow with VTG policy is slightly higher than that of CTG policy. Meanwhile, the scatter of mixed traffic flow with VTG policy in the flow-density diagram gradually clusters in the middle range of density (i.e., 20–40 veh/km) with the increase of the penetration rates of ACC vehicles, where the traffic flow operates more efficiently. Improving the resilience of urban road networks suffering from various disruptions has been a central focus for urban emergence management. However, to date the effective methods which may mitigate the negative impacts caused by the disruptions, such as road accidents and natural disasters, on urban road networks is highly insufficient. This study proposes a novel adaptive signal control strategy based on a doubly dynamic learning framework, which consists of deep reinforcement learning and day-to-day traffic dynamic learning, to improve the network performance by adjusting red/green time split. In this study, red time split is regarded as extra traffic flow to discourage drivers to use affected roads, so as to reduce congestion and improve the resilience when urban road networks are subject to different levels of disruptions. In addition, we utilize the convolution neural network as Q-network to approximate Q values, link flow distribution and link capacity are regarded as the state space, and actions are denoted as red/green time split. A small network is utilized as a numerical example, and a fixed time signal control and other two adaptive signal controls are employed for the comparisons with the proposed one. The results show that the proposed adaptive signal control based on deep reinforcement learning can achieve better resilience in most of the cases, particularly in the scenarios of moderate and severe disruptions. Reinforcement learning (RL) approaches have recently been spotlighted for use in adaptive traffic-signal control on an area-wide level. Most researchers have employed multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithms wherein each agent shares a holistic traffic state and cooperates with other agents to reach a common goal. However, MARL algorithms cannot guarantee a global optimal solution unless the actions of all agents are fully coordinated. The present study employs a RL algorithm that recognizes an entire traffic state and jointly controls all the traffic signals of multiple intersections. With this approach, a deep Q-network (DQN) that depends solely on traffic images is extended to overcome the curse of dimensionality that is associated with a large state and action space. Several front layers in a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) to approximate the true Q-function are shared by each intersection approach. Weight parameters connecting the last hidden layer to the output layer are fixed. The proposed methodology outperforms a fixed-signal operation, a fully actuated signal operation, a multi-agent RL control without coordination, and a multi-agent RL control with partial coordination. The prevailing variable speed limit (VSL) systems as an effective strategy for traffic control on motorways have the disadvantage that they only work with static VSL zones. Under changing traffic conditions, VSL systems with static VSL zones may perform suboptimally. Therefore, the adaptive design of VSL zones is required in traffic scenarios where congestion characteristics vary widely over space and time. To address this problem, we propose a novel distributed spatial-temporal multi-agent VSL (DWL-ST-VSL) approach capable of dynamically adjusting the length and position of VSL zones to complement the adjustment of speed limits in current VSL control systems. To model DWL-ST-VSL, distributed W-learning (DWL), a reinforcement learning (RL)-based algorithm for collaborative agent-based self-optimization toward multiple policies, is used. Each agent uses RL to learn local policies, thereby maximizing travel speed and eliminating congestion. In addition to local policies, through the concept of remote policies, agents learn how their actions affect their immediate neighbours and which policy or action is preferred in a given situation. To assess the impact of deploying additional agents in the control loop and the different cooperation levels on the control process, DWL-ST-VSL is evaluated in a four-agent configuration (DWL4-ST-VSL). This evaluation is done via SUMO microscopic simulations using collaborative agents controlling four segments upstream of the congestion in traffic scenarios with medium and high traffic loads. DWL also allows for heterogeneity in agents' policies; cooperating agents in DWL4-ST-VSL implement two speed limit sets with different granularity. DWL4-ST-VSL outperforms all baselines (W-learning-based VSL and simple proportional speed control), which use static VSL zones. Finally, our experiments yield insights into the new concept of VSL control. This may trigger further research on using advanced learning-based technology to design a new generation of adaptive traffic control systems to meet the requirements of operating in a nonstationary environment and at the leading edge of emerging connected and autonomous vehicles in general. Urban traffic self-adaptive control problem is dynamic and uncertain, so the states of traffic environment are hard to be observed. Efficient agentwhich controls a single intersection can be discovered automatically viamultiagent reinforcement learning. However, in the majority of the previous works on this approach, each agent needed perfect observed information when interacting with the environment and learned individually with less efficient coordination. This study casts traffic self-adaptive control as a multiagent Markov game problem. The design employs traffic signal control agent (TSCA) for each signalized intersection that coordinates with neighboring TSCAs. A mathematical model for TSCAs' interaction is built based on nonzero-sum markov game which has been applied to let TSCAs learn how to cooperate. A multiagent Markov game reinforcement learning approach is constructed on the basis of single-agent Q-learning. Thismethod lets each TSCA learn to update its Q-values under the joint actions and imperfect information. The convergence of the proposed algorithm is analyzed theoretically. As an important component of the urban adaptive traffic control system, subarea partition algorithm divides the road network into some small subareas and then determines the optimal signal control mode for each signalized intersection. Correlation model is the core of subarea partition algorithm because it can quantify the correlation degree of adjacent signalized intersections and decides whether these intersections can be grouped into one subarea. In most cases, there are more than two intersections in one subarea. However, current researches only focus on the correlation model for two adjacent intersections. The objective of this study is to develop a model which can calculate the correlation degree of multiple intersections adaptively. The cycle lengths, link lengths, number of intersections, and path flow between upstream and downstream coordinated phases were selected as the contributing factors of the correlation model. Their jointly impacts on the performance of the coordinated control mode relative to the isolated control mode were further studied using numerical experiments. The paper then proposed a correlation index (CI) as an alternative to relative performance. The relationship between CI and the four contributing factors was established in order to predict the correlation, which determined whether adjacent intersections could be partitioned into one subarea. A value of 0 was set as the threshold of CI. If CI was larger than 0, multiple intersections could be partitioned into one subarea; otherwise, they should be separated. Finally, case studies were conducted in a real-life signalized network to evaluate the performance of the model. This paper addresses the issue of managing the traffic flow at traffic-light controlled junctions adopting a mixed, nonlinear programming model. More precisely, we adopt an adaptive, acyclic control system based on the genetic algorithm (GA), a system that allows to accurately decide in real time on the light switching pattern that minimizes the traffic waiting time. Equally importantly, the inherent crossroads constraints, namely, the security of their users and the structure thereof, also referred to as the antagonism principle, are considered in the proceeding of this method. The implementation of this model on two crossroads significantly decreases the waiting time and regulates the traffic flow. This paper presents the prerequisites and the first steps in the development of unmanned vehicle traffic control systems by the NNSTU n.a. R.E. Alekseev with the support of engineers from the United Engineering Center of the GAZ Group and specialists from PJSC GAZ. This system is developed for operation in difficult road-climatic conditions in the territory of the Russian Federation. As a chassis for installation of the system, an electrical platform was chosen. IEEE 802.11e has established a new access mechanism called the hybrid coordination function (HCF) as a step toward provisioning quality-of service (QoS) support. In this mechanism, a simple HCF scheduler is introduced to take the QoS requirements of admitted flows into account and allocate transmission opportunities (TXOPs), which is the time under which a station (STA) can send its burst of data packets, to STAs. Although many approaches have been taken to address the mechanism's inherent problems, unsubstantial effort has been afforded in tackling a channel-aware allocation mechanism. An STA can be in either the good or bad channel state in any feasible data rate, which can be modeled as a Markov chain of two states for each data rate. In view of this, we propose a mechanism of adaptive TXOP allocation that is applicable to existing scheduling algorithms. Our method works in accordance with channel and traffic conditions and complies with the link adaptation mechanism. Extensive simulation results verify that our method shows improved performance while ensuring long-term fairness among STAs and being adaptive to the channel conditions and underlying physical transmission rates. This Taiwan traffic-adaptive arterial signal control model borrowed its traffic flow framework mainly from a British traffic-adaptive control model with a cyclic traffic progression function, i.e. SCOOT (Split Cycle Office Optimisation Technique). The new arterial control model can take into account delays of both major and minor streets and make real-time signal timing decisions with optimal two-way signal offsets, so as to create the best arterial signal operation performance. It has been developed to be an online real-time software for both simulation testing and field validation. Through simulation, it was found that the performance when operating this newly developed real-time arterial traffic-adaptive model was significantly better than when using the optimal fixed-time arterial timing plan. On the aspect of field testing, three signalized intersections located in East District, Tainan City, Taiwan were selected to be the test sites. Fairly good traffic control performance has been demonstrated in that it can effectively reduce travel delays of the control arterial as a whole. Additional discussions about how to combine travel delay and the total number of vehicle stops into a new control performance index have also been included to make the new traffic-adaptive model more flexible and reasonable to meet the expectations of different driver groups in the arterial system. Based on collective learning systems theory, ALISA (adaptive learning image and signal analysis) is an adaptive image classification engine that has been designed and tested at the Research Institute for Applied Knowledge Processing (FAW) in Ulm, Germany, at Robert Bosch GmbH in Stuttgart, Germany, and at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., over the last 5 years. Based on an appropriate set of features, during training, ALISA accumulates an n-dimensional histogram that estimates the probability density function of the feature space, which becomes the basis for classification during testing. The results of the research reported in this paper suggest that ALISA can be used successfully to detect traffic jams on highways. Based on images captured by a video camera observing different highway traffic conditions, ALISA was trained to recognize and differentiate between steadily flowing traffic and stalled traffic. Several standard features were extracted from preprocessed images based on the differences between successive video frames that were integrated over fairly large receptive fields to reduce differential noise. During testing, ALISA displays a picture of the highway with areas of flowing traffic shown in white and areas of stalled traffic shown as images of the stalled vehicles themselves. Because ALISA classifies every segment of the image independently, even directly adjacent lanes and/or clusters of stalled and flowing traffic are correctly classified. It is widely believed that road traffic as a whole self-adapts to the current situation to make travel times shorter by avoiding congestions, if the autonomously operating navigation devices exploit real-time traffic information. The classical theoretical models do not have definite answer if car navigation based on real-time data is able to self-adapt and produce better traffic, or not. The novel theoretical approach to study this belief is the online routing game model. Current commercial car navigation systems are modelled with the class of simple naive online routing games. It is already proved that simple naive online routing games may show undesirable phenomena. One of the approaches to improve car navigation is intention-propagation-based prediction, where agents share their intention, and can forecast future travel times. In this paper we prove that in spite of exploiting this type of prediction in online routing games, the phenomena studied in simple naive online routing games are still possible, although in a different way. The dynamic adaptive control of traffic lights can be formulated as a Markov decision problem (MDP). This framework is hardly used, as solving an MDP can be very time-consuming and is only possible for simple infrastructures with a small number of traffic flows. Nevertheless, we show that the MDP framework can be used to construct control policies that approximately minimize the long-run average waiting time at intersections. The MDP-based approach is fast and thus allows real-time use of actual information on traffic conditions, like queue lengths and the arrival times of near-future arrivals. Simulation of an isolated intersection as well as a small network shows that the new policies with arrival information improve pretimed as well as exhaustive control. Abstract: This paper develops two soft computing models, i.e., the multilayer feedforward network (MFN) based model and the adaptive-network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) based model, to mine the traffic speed patterns/trends for a road link using the sparse historical probe vehicles (PVs) data at the same link. The two models and an additional naive arithmetical average model are tested on the field datasets obtained in some Beijing (China)'s urban expressways. The results illustrate that the soft computing based models have higher robustness to the problem of missing data and their generalization capabilities are better than the arithmetic average model. Comprehensively considering all the performance metrics suggest that the ANFIS offers the best model of traffic trends in studied links. Furthermore, the traffic trends produced by ANFIS provide us the opportunities to identify some meaningful hidden traffic speed patterns. The missing data's influence on the mined traffic speed patterns is also investigated. It is found that the reliability of mined traffic speed patterns decreases with the increasing of the missing data's percentage. We propose a reconciliation sublayer (RS)-based lane and traffic control protocol for energy-efficient 40-G/100-G Ethernet. The RS performs active/inactive lane control and data rate adaptation depending on active lane information received from the upper layer. This protocol does not result in a processing delay in the media access control layer, nor is an additional buffer required at the physical layer for dynamic lane control. SUMMARY This paper proposes a stepwise genetic fuzzy logic controller (SGFLC) by considering traffic flows and queue lengths of cars and motorcycles as state variables and extension of green time as control variable, towards the minimization of total vehicle delays. For the learning efficiency of SGFLC and the capability in capturing traffic behaviors of Asian urban streets, where mixed traffic of cars and motorcycles are prevailing, the mixed traffic cell transmission model (MCTM) is introduced to replicate traffic behaviors. To investigate the control performance of the proposed SGFLC model, comparisons with two pre-timed timing plans and three adaptive signal timing models are conducted at an isolated intersection. Results show our proposed SGFLC model performs best. Moreover, as traffic flows vary more noticeably, the SGFLC model performs even better. In the experimental and field cases of three-intersection arterial under four coordinated signal systems, namely simultaneous, progressive, alternate and independent, both cases consistently show that the proposed SGFLC model perform best, suggesting that the proposed SGFLC signal control model is efficient and robust. This paper presents an adaptive system that embeds a Bayesian inference-based dynamic model (BDM) for predicting real-time travel time on a freeway corridor. Bayesian forecasting is a learning process that revises sequentially the state of a priori knowledge of travel time based on newly available information. The prediction result is a posterior travel time distribution that can be employed to generate a single-value (typically but not necessarily the mean) travel time as well as a confidence interval representing the uncertainty of travel time prediction. To better track travel time fluctuations during nonrecurrent congestion due to unforeseen events (e.g., incidents, accidents, or bad weather), the BDM is integrated into an adaptive control framework that can automatically learn and adjust the system evolution noise level. The experimental results based on real loop detector data of a freeway stretch in Northern Taiwan suggest that the proposed method is able to provide accurate and reliable travel time prediction under both recurrent and nonrecurrent traffic conditions. Abstract: In this paper, a novel model-free periodic adaptive ramp metering scheme is presented for a freeway traffic system, which can be formulated as a general MIMO nonlinear system. The proposed method is model-free in nature, and the control inputs and the pseudo Jacobi parameters are updated periodically in a pointwise manner over the entire period, by directly using the I/O data obtained in the preceding periods. Adaptive control of traffic engineering (TE) based on 5G network function virtualization (NFV) authorizes the efficient and dynamic network resource allocation, whose utilization is increasingly wide and will become more widespread. In this paper, we first devise an adaptive control scheme for data-driven traffic migration engineering (TME) on the 5G virtual network. The proposed TME technology focuses on a 5G enhancing mobile broadband (eMBB) network application scenario and takes the network operating expenditure (OPEX) as the main research target. Firstly, we predict the network traffic of the virtual network through the constructed traffic predicted mathematical model. Then, based on the triangle inequality violation (TIV) theorem, some local network traffic is adaptively migrated when the predicted link traffic exceeds the peak rate. Consequently, the migrations of logical links in the virtual network layer are completed. Finally, our experiments show that the proposed protocol can effectively improve the key performance indicators (KPIs) of the reconfigured network, such as throughput, delay and energy consumption. Furthermore, the Fridman and Holm statistical hypothesis tests are also used to analyze the simulation data, which proves that the proposed approximate TME algorithm has statistical significance. Benefiting from the application of vehicle communication networks and new technologies, such as connected vehicles, video monitoring, automated vehicles and vehicle–road collaboration, traffic network data can be observed in real-time. Applied in the field of traffic control, these technologies can provide high-quality input data and make a more comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness of traffic control. However, most of the control theories and strategies adopted by adaptive control systems cannot effectively use these real-time, high-precision data. In order to adapt to the development of the times, intersection control theory needs to be further developed. This paper reviews the intersection control strategies from many perspectives, including intelligent data-driven control, conventional timing control, induction control and model-based traffic control. There are three main directions for intersection control based on the connected vehicle environment: (1) data-driven reinforcement learning control; (2) adaptive performance optimization control; (3) research on traffic control based on the environment of connected vehicles (CV); and (4) multiple intersection control based on the CV environment. Abstract: As traffic congestion rises within urban centers around the world, the intelligent control of traffic signals within cities is becoming increasingly important. Previous research within the area of intelligent traffic signal control has several shortcomings, including a reliance on historical data, the use of centralized systems which cannot handle city-sized problem instances and solutions which are not capable of addressing real-world traffic scenarios (e.g., constantly varying volumes and complex network structures). The research reported here proposes algorithms capable of controlling traffic signals that rely on traffic observations made by available sensor devices and local communication between traffic lights. This solution allows signals to be updated frequently to match current traffic demand, while also allowing for significantly large problem sizes to be addressed. To evaluate the developed system, a realistic traffic model was developed using information supplied by the City of Ottawa, Canada. It was found, through simulation within the SUMO traffic simulation environment, that the proposed adaptive system resulted in higher overall network performance when compared to the current fixed signal plan controllers, which were recreated using information from the City of Ottawa. Forecasting the forthcoming intersection movement-based traffic volume enables adaptive traffic control systems to dynamically respond to the fluctuation of traffic demands. In this paper, a deep-learning based Signal-control Refined Dynamic Traffic Graph (ScR-DTG) Model is proposed for advancing the network-level movement-based traffic volume prediction task. The proposed model attempts to further improve the-state-of-art and practice algorithms in traffic prediction for arterial network adaptive signal control utilizing tradition traffic flow theory boosted deep-learning methodology. For precisely inferencing the movement-based demand at cycle-to-cycle level, the proposed model incorporates spatial graph convolution inferencing layer and temporal inferencing layer to explore both the intricate spatial temporal dependencies, respectively. A signal control refining module is contrived to deduce the controlled movement saturation flow and introduce the essential control inferences, which is of great significance but frequently neglected in the previous researches. Additionally, according to the real-time movement specified travel time, this paper creatively constructs an adjacent graph with dynamic order for more accurately capturing the ever-changing spatial relevancies. Field experiments with multiple signal schemes were conducted in the downtown area of Zhangzhou (China). In this manuscript, we delve into the realm of lattice ordered complex linear diophantine fuzzy soft set, which constitutes an invaluable extension to the existing Fuzzy set theories. Within this exploration, we investigate basic operations such as $\oplus$ ⊕ and $\otimes$ ⊗ , together with their properties and theorems. This manuscript is more amenable in two ways, i.e., it enables real-life problems involving parametrization tool and applications with an existing order between the components of the parameter set based on the preference in the complex frame of reference. Adaptive traffic signal control has the potential to promote the efficient use of road intersections, thus contributing to the effectiveness of urban traffic management schemes. However, the reaction of drivers to repeatedly updated signal settings and the ensuing route choice dynamics may trigger the emergence of various kinds of network instability. In this study, the joint evolution of traffic flows and adaptive signal settings in a road network is investigated at the level of day-to-day dynamics with an explicit focus on the stability issue. We show how a Logit form signal control policy can be used, in interaction with route choice, to counter the emergence of instabilities possibly arising as a consequence of various behavioral factors and network conditions. After providing a general formulation of the model as a discrete time, deterministic nonlinear dynamical system, an explicit analysis of fixed-point stability is carried out for a simple network. Numerical results obtained from the implementation of the model on two example networks are presented in order to support the analytical findings of this study. We conclude that, in an integrated traffic management and information system, a properly calibrated adaptive signal control policy has the potential to offset the destabilizing effect of highly accurate driver information supplied by navigational aids. Our findings also suggest that the Logit-like control policy performs better than the Equisaturation signal setting method, in terms of average intersection delay at equilibrium, for all levels of driver information and travel demand tested in the experiment. Abstract: The combination of different characteristics and situation-dependent behavior cause the design of adaptive cruise control (ACC) systems to be time consuming. This paper presents a systematic approach for the design of a parameterized ACC, based on explicit model predictive control. A unique feature of the synthesized ACC is its parameterization in terms of key characteristics, which, after the parameterization, makes it easy and intuitive to tune, even for the driver. The effectiveness of the design approach is demonstrated using simulations for relevant traffic scenarios, including Stop-&-Go. The standardized driving cycles, which are used around the globe for the development and homologation of automobiles, consist of a series of speed points versus time, to represent typical driving conditions and to exclude the influence of a human driver. However, with respect to autonomous vehicles (AVs), the driving style is defined in driving algorithms as a characteristic of the vehicle. Therefore, driving style should be considered in driving cycles. In this research, using MATLAB/Simulink® we developed the AVDC (Autonomous Vehicle Driving Cycle) Tool, which is capable of generating driving cycles based on driving style characteristics. The autonomous vehicles being investigated drive in a simulated environment along a straight road amongst other traffic vehicles, applying standard cycles to ensure the representativeness of generated autonomous cycles. The autonomous vehicle is piloted by adaptive cruise control (ACC) for car-following and free driving. Overtake logic decides whether passing will be attempted. Driving style is defined by four aspects—comfort, safety, swiftness, and economy—and determines the control parameters in the driving algorithm. The driving cycles generated by the AVDC Tool for a variety of driving styles show diverse characteristics, thus indicating the effective representation of various driving styles. Adaptive signal control (ASC) is a well-researched topic that offers an efficient way for traffic management. It possesses a powerful ability to accommodate complex and constantly changing urban transportation networks. With the development of vehicular communication, CV-based ASC shows remarkable advantages compared with the traditional ASC system. Though the existing CV-based ASC strategies were proposed in the past few years, however, there are still issues to overcome. Most of the studies on CV-based ASC are based on the assumption of high CV penetration rate, which often result in poor performance when applied to low CV penetration environments. Besides, the lack of consideration for mixed traffic flow, which is in terms of both the vehicle types and CV penetration of different types of vehicles. To solve these issues, this paper developed an Occupancy-Based ASC strategy for a congested signalized intersection to optimize signal timing and reduce total passenger delay in the low CV penetration environment. Focused on the issues existing in the low CV penetration environment, a Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) model was proposed to estimate vehicle arrivals, and two traffic models, MicroDM and MacroDM, were developed to model the mixed traffic flow and estimate passenger delay. With the purpose of offering fair treatment to passengers approaching the intersection, we proposed an Occupancy-Based Adaptive Signal Control strategy. By transforming the complex signal control problem into a mixed-integer linear programming problem, we found the optimal solution for minimizing total passenger delay. We then evaluated the proposed Occupancy-Based ASC strategy using simulation case studies. The results show that changing traffic status could be captured and estimated with the real-time CV trajectory data as input. Applying the Occupancy-Based ASC control strategy, phases with HOVs or more vehicles will be allocated more travel time. Maglev train is a new vehicle of rail transit. The time-varying load caused by large capacity is an important test of suspension system. If the state variable matrix and parameter matrix caused by time-varying mass cannot be estimated effectively, it is very likely to lead to the decline of suspension performance and instability. Firstly, an NNs state observer based on neural network is proposed to effectively estimate the system state and parameter matrix. Secondly, based on the NNs observer model, an inverse control algorithm with stronger regulation ability is designed by integrating the output limited characteristics and Lyapunov function, which can ensure the stability of the system when disturbed. The simulation results show that the control algorithm proposed in this paper can have faster response speed and stability in the flotation process of 16mm-10mm, and has better anti-disturbance ability in the face of time-varying mass disturbance. Finally, based on the single point suspension experimental platform, the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed control algorithm are verified, and the correctness of the proposed NNs observer model is also verified.
