Context: The retraction of research papers, for whatever reason, is a growing phenomenon. However, although retracted paper information is publicly available via publishers, it is somewhat distributed and inconsistent., Objective: The aim is to assess: (i) the extent and nature of retracted research in Computer Science (CS) (ii) the post-retraction citation behaviour of retracted works and (iii) the potential impact upon systematic reviews and mapping studies., Method: We analyse the Retraction Watch database and take citation information from the Web of Science and Google scholar., Results: We find that of the 33,955 entries in the Retraction watch database (16 May 2022), 2,816 are classified as CS, i.e., ≈ 8%. For CS, 56% of retracted papers provide little or no information as to the reasons. This contrasts with 26% for other disciplines. There is also some disparity between different publishers, a tendency for multiple versions of a retracted paper to be available beyond the Version of Record (VoR), and for new citations long after a paper is officially retracted (median = 3; maximum = 18). Systematic reviews are also impacted with ≈ 30% of the retracted papers having one or more citations from a review., Conclusions: Unfortunately, retraction seems to be a sufficiently common outcome for a scientific paper that we as a research community need to take it more seriously, e.g., standardising procedures and taxonomies across publishers and the provision of appropriate research tools. This article describes how with the advent of computer-based technology, there is movement from manual to automated systems for different aspects of the education system. Testing is an essential part of teaching process that helps academics in classifying the level of students and evaluating the outcomes of their teaching process. The testing process requires a large amount of attention and professionalism. Automated Test Paper Generation is a system applying the shuffling algorithm in designing different sets of questions without repetition and duplication. It helps the faculty in developing and designing exams with a particular level of difficulty required in evaluating the students by using the utility-based agent. The system includes a knowledge base of many questions' types that are linked to a test engine where the faculty can specify the type and the difficulty level of the exam and then the system will assemble the exam and produce the output as electronic or paper-based. Questions will be picked randomly from the knowledge database. This automated system provides cost saving and time efficient solutions.

Students in a computer technology course completed either a paper-and-pencil test (n=40) or an online test in a proctored computer lab (n=43). Test scores were equivalent, but the online group, particularly freshmen, completed the test in less time. Online testing time did not correlate with test score. (Contains 30 references.) (SK)

For many reasons, paper-based tests of course content are shifting to computer-based administration. This investigation examined student performance on two separate tests delivered either by computer or paper with the first test near the start of the course and the second at the end of the course. Undergraduate-level freshman business majors (N=207) enrolled in an introductory computer skills course were randomly assigned to either the computer or paper-based test mode. ANCOVA of test data indicates that students scored slightly higher on computer versus paper administration. Further, the female group, whether tested on paper or online, scored below the males on the first test. However on the final exam, the female students in the computer-administered test group on average attained the highest scores. We suggest that females gained computer savvy during this course that mitigated initial performance deficits that may have resulted from previous lack of exposure to computers and software.

The COVID pandemic forced WASP to go online. This study compared satisfaction with WASP online as opposed to in-person by analyzing course feedback pre- and post-pandemic. Methods: Google forms are used to collect anonymous feedback on a Likert scale for various aspects of each WASP. The period 2017 to 2022 was used to compare four courses on-site and five courses online. Feedback on: Rate lectures, handouts, WASP overall and how likely are you to recommend WASP was compared. Results: Response rates were >60% and almost all Cronbach's Alpha values were >0.7. High satisfaction scores were achieved in all four questions (>4/5). There were no significant differences except in lectures, which scored well but fared slightly worse overall online. Conclusions: Migrating online does not necessarily lead to change/s in presentation contents but transforms delivery. Our results indicate that WASP is accepted online but the slightly lower lectures score implies that WASP might be better delivered in-person than online. However, students remained happy to recommend WASP and this accords with other studies that overall, student satisfaction with online education is common. It is hoped that as the pandemic recedes, webinars complement and not continue to totally replace traditional in-person meetings.

The integration of online platforms in (bio)chemical engineering education has increasingly become a matter of fact at all educational levels. Examples such as virtual laboratories in tertiary education have shown their benefits, such as the decreased cost and resources needed as well as providing a safer environment for practical experimentation. However, students or stakeholders are not usually involved in developing the virtual laboratory, even if, when given the opportunity, they can provide valuable feedback for improvement and acquire ownership over the platform. Hence, when proposing a novel educational process virtual laboratory that targets teaching bioprocess modeling to undergraduate students, the best approach is to involve the students in the development as its future users. To this end, in this work, four co-participatory design experiences are presented that show the journey from a paper prototype to an online educational virtual laboratory (www.biovl.com). Qualitative and quantitative data have been collected in two different universities through surveys, semi-structured interviews, and informal conversations among the students and the developer. The students’ perspectives were found to provide valuable feedback about the platform’s content, usability, and functionality. For example, interest in adding bioprocess-related coding activities, or suggesting to change the platform name, were opinions collected and carefully considered. These suggestions can be easily integrated since the software is at the early stages of the virtual laboratory prototype. Although the usability and functionality features of the platform are under continuous advancement, this work’s findings show that the students are interested in contributing to the virtual laboratory’s development. Therefore, it opens the door to modifications and improvements, which are strongly based on the users’/students’ perceptions and perspectives as the virtual laboratory’s co-designers. Although the primary target of the BioVL prototype is to teach bioprocessing modelling, several advanced tools such as virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR) are being considered to be included at a future stage. Furthermore, the educational strategy proposed in this work can be replicated by those who want to develop other virtual laboratories.

Background: In the context of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) on HIV testing in the emergency department (ED) setting, we evaluated preferences for survey modality and data quality arising from each modality., Methods: Enrolled participants were offered the choice of answering a survey via audio computer assisted self-interview (ACASI) or pen and paper self-administered questionnaire (SAQ). We evaluated factors influencing choice of survey modality. We defined unusable data for a particular survey domain as answering fewer than 75% of the questions in the domain. We then compared ACASI and SAQ with respect to unusable data for domains that address sensitive topics., Results: Of 758 enrolled ED patients, 218 (29%) chose ACASI, 343 chose SAQ (45%) and 197 (26%) opted not to complete either. Results of the log-binomial regression indicated that older (RR = 1.08 per decade) and less educated participants (RR = 1.25) were more likely to choose SAQ over ACASI. ACASI yielded substantially less unusable data than SAQ., Conclusions: In the ED setting there may be a tradeoff between increased participation with SAQ versus better data quality with ACASI. Future studies of novel approaches to maximize the use of ACASI in the ED setting are needed.

This study assesses the response variation of self administered questionnaire (SAQs) on computer compared to traditional paper based SAQ. The study outcomes include response accuracy, consistency and variation based on , participants? perception of ease of use, and safety of storing their personal health information on computer . The study will help to understand, the acceptability of computer based SAQs in data collection of socially sensitive behaviors.

Background: To see if there is a difference in performance when students switch from traditional paper-and-pencil examinations to computer-based examinations, and to determine whether there are gender differences in student performance in these two examination formats., Methods: This study involved first year medical students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign over three Academic Years 2002-03/2003-04 and 2003-05. Comparisons of student performance by overall class and gender were made. Specific comparisons within courses that utilized both the paper-and-pencil and computer formats were analyzed., Results: Overall performance scores for students among the various Academic Years revealed no differences between exams given in the traditional pen-and-paper and computer formats. Further, when we looked specifically for gender differences in performance between these two testing formats, we found none., Conclusion: The format for examinations in the courses analyzed does not affect student performance. We find no evidence for gender differences in performance on exams on pen-and-paper or computer-based exams.

The use of computerized psychological assessment is a growing practice among contemporary mental health professionals. Many popular and frequently used paper-and-pencil instruments have been adapted into computerized versions. Although equivalence for many instruments has been evaluated and supported, this issue is far from resolved. This literature review deals with recent research findings that suggest that computer aversion negatively impacts computerized assessment, particularly as it relates to measures of negative affect. There is a dearth of equivalence studies that take into account computer aversion's potential impact on the measurement of negative affect. Recommendations are offered for future research in this area.

Abstract: This secondary analysis (N = 43) compared computer-assisted self-interview (CASI) to clinician interview for self-report of 8 vulvovaginal symptoms. Concordance was moderate between interview modes (range, 70-86%) with itching and odor having highest agreement. In order to improve the effect of intelligent automatic test paper composition, this paper combines the hybrid fuzzy clustering algorithm to study the computer automatic test paper composition algorithm. In this paper, a computer automatic test paper composition system based on hybrid fuzzy clustering algorithm is constructed. Moreover, the hybrid fuzzy clustering method used in this paper is used as the basic algorithm of the system, and the algorithm is improved according to the actual needs of intelligent paper composition. In addition, this paper uses an intelligent algorithm to input the relevant constraint parameters and combines the original parameters to select the most suitable test questions from the database and combine them into test papers. Finally, this paper constructs the system structure based on the requirements of intelligent test paper composition. The experimental research shows that the computer automatic test paper composition system based on the hybrid fuzzy clustering algorithm proposed in this paper has a good test paper composition function, which can effectively promote the progress of the intelligent examination mode in colleges and universities. Electrical equipment supplying and distributing energy is used in every pulp and paper industrial process. Many components made of various metallic and dielectric materials are vulnerable to corrosive atmospheres often present in the pulp and paper industrial facilities. Corrosion of electrical conductors may result in fast and irreversible deterioration, causing production loss and safety hazards. The paper reviews the most severe corrosion problems effecting conductivity of electrical contacts that result in overheating of electrical equipment used in this industry. A number of various protecting means are suggested to slow down corrosion of silver and copper and other metals most often used in electrical equipment. The paper discusses implementations and the value of various condition-monitoring techniques to provide timely maintenance of electrical equipment exposed to corrosive environments in the pulp and paper facilities. The purpose of this paper is to present a state variable model for the drying section of a paper-making machine. This model is based on the mass and energy balance relationships written for steam, paper, cylindrical heater wall, and moisture. These relationships give a set of six nonlinear partial derivative equations. The form of these equations changes somewhat from one cylindrical heater to another. The solution for this model yields the operating parameters needed to achieve the desired steam temperature while obtaining good paper drying. Boundary conditions are specified by a stochastic generator, and initial conditions are obtained by solving the static model. The dynamic model is presented in [1]. In this paper, we present only the state variable model for the paper drying, as well as comparing the obtained results with dynamic model results. Solving the set of differential equations with respect to the boundary conditions, we obtain the standard form of the state representation, which represents the dynamic version of the model used for process control. In conclusion, it can be said that the consistency of the model with experimental results seems to be reasonably good and can be used for process control. This paper reviews the motor temperature operating consideration for Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC), Open Dripproof, and Weather Protected II type of motor through 500 hp, both low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV). The IEEE Standard 841 has been revised as IEEE Std 841-2001 and is expected to be in use for at least five years. The TEFC motors covered in this standard have found wide acceptance in the pulp and paper industry. Much of the material also applies to large motors sizes. The thermal impact on the stator winding rotor core, bearings, and lubrications as specified in standards and applied in mills are considered. The manufacturing imperative of improving uptime presents a number of unique challenges for the plant engineer or industrial facilities manager. The first challenge is to debunk the myths and misconceptions surrounding power conditioning and environmental protection in industrial settings. Like their office system counterparts, control systems are running more mission-critical applications than ever before. Uptime demands are increasing. This, in turn, increases the need for systems availability and reliability 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Pulp and paper mills are continually striving to obtain data center reliability through the use of dual corded loads fed from separate substations. Building in high degrees of redundancy increases the standards for reliable power and provides the ability to perform consistent maintenance for all power and environmental equipment--continuous availability is dependent upon it. This paper covers how to identify the most common challenges--from power conditioning to site monitoring issues to precision air conditioning and other environmental factors--and then configures the best solution for your specific environment. This paper is a basic primer for defining and applying active harmonic filters (AHFs). AHFs are sophisticated electronic devices that offer significant advantages over traditional harmonic mitigation and displacement power-factor-correction methods. This paper will introduce the AHF and discuss when and where these advantages apply. Additionally discussed is the simplicity in selection of the AHF. The author will present specific examples for the various applications to which AHFs have been applied. Nuclear magnetic resonance is a crucial technique for studying biological complexes, as it provides precise structural and dynamic information at the atomic level. However, the process of assigning resonances can be time-consuming and challenging, particularly in cases where peaks overlap, or the data quality is poor. In this paper, we present TINTO (Two and three-dimensional Imaging for NMR sTrip Operation via CV/ML), an advanced semiautomatic toolset for NMR resonance assignment. TINTO comprises two separate tools, each tailored for either two-dimensional or three-dimensional imaging. The toolset utilizes a computer-vision approach and a machine learning approach, specifically structural similarity index and principal components analysis, to perform visual similarity searches of resonances and quickly locate similar strips, and in that way overcome the challenges associated with peak overlap without requiring peak picking. Our tool offers a user-friendly interface and has the potential to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of NMR resonance assignment, particularly in complex cases. This advancement holds promising implications for furthering our understanding of biological systems at the molecular level. Reliability and power quality are two of the most discussed topics in the utility industry today. Many groups have performed power quality studies with varying results. One large industrial customer in northern New York State which experienced numerous process interruptions due to power system disturbances was the focus of this study. Monitoring methods, results, inadequacies of standards, and unique mitigation techniques used to conquer their problems are discussed in this paper.

Paper is made by a continuous high-speed filtration drainage of an aqueous suspension of fibers. This paper presents a new approach to the controllable simulation of paper forming, using artificial neural network methods. The model incorporates dynamics of the forming process, like turbulence, drainage speed, and preferential drainage through earlier less-dense regions and fiber properties, like propensity to clump, or 'flocculate,' fiber flexibility, and concentration of fibers in the suspension. Results for monofiber layer structures are described, showing effects of turbulence and its decay during drainage in causing clumping, or 'flocculation.' The commercial process has, as one of its main goals, the reduction to tolerable levels of the nonuniformity in mass distribution resulting from flocculation. The new model yields data corresponding to that obtainable along arbitrary scanning lines in planar stochastic fibrous structures, providing profiles, variances, histograms of local areal density, and histograms of local free-fiber lengths. These results closely resemble experimental data from commercial paper samples obtained from radiographic or optical transmission images subjected to image analysis. Motor failures are very costly in a typical paper mill. Typical motor failure cost upwards of $20 000 per hour. Motor repair costs for the North American mills of Champion International total over $10 000 000 per year. Lost production associated with these failures can reach a staggering $1 000 000 per day. Considering these facts, Champion International embarked on a program to use intelligent motor control and protection equipment in all new installations, where applicable, and to replace outdated motor protection equipment. The combination of advanced motor protection, flexible control, and communication provided Champion with the opportunity to directly control and monitor their processes. The advanced features of the new equipment provide warning of impending problems, minimize downtime, and improve process results. This paper provides case histories where the new equipment replaced dated electromechanical protection and control equipment. In addition, we also discuss the present generation of motor protection technologies and the need for a new generation of motor protection equipment that truly provides total motor protection against all known motor failure modes. We describe the development of a course to teach modeling and mathematical analysis skills to students of biology and to teach biology to students with strong backgrounds in mathematics, physics, or engineering. The two groups of students have different ways of learning material and often have strong negative feelings toward the area of knowledge that they find difficult. To give students a sense of mastery in each area, several complementary approaches are used in the course: 1) a "live" textbook that allows students to explore models and mathematical processes interactively; 2) benchmark problems providing key skills on which students make continuous progress; 3) assignment of students to teams of two throughout the semester; 4) regular one-on-one interactions with instructors throughout the semester; and 5) a term project in which students reconstruct, analyze, extend, and then write in detail about a recently published biological model. Based on student evaluations and comments, an attitude survey, and the quality of the students' term papers, the course has significantly increased the ability and willingness of biology students to use mathematical concepts and modeling tools to understand biological systems, and it has significantly enhanced engineering students' appreciation of biology. In a cloud computing environment, traditional digital forensic processes (such as turning off the computer to image the computer hard drive) can be disruptive to businesses because the data of businesses may be co-mingled with other content. As technology changes, the way digital forensics acquisitions are conducted are also changing. The change in methodology affects the way this subject matter is taught in programs and institutions. Methods to teach digital forensic acquisition methods in a cloud computing environment are limited due to the complexity of the cloud environment. This paper explores how a panel of expert practitioners viewed evidence acquisitions within the cloud environment, the implications for digital forensic education, and suggestions on how the education field can prepare students for technological changes in digital forensic acquisition processes where cloud computing environments are concerned and also help develop new methodologies. The paper offers a classroom case scenario as an example on how new methodologies and tools can be used in the classroom.

A utility capacity increase from 50 to 100 MVA was implemented in a large Kraft paper mill. All existing plant 15-kV switchgear and controls were replaced and a new tie line constructed during a nine-month period prior to the utility increase. Electrical and process control rooms were built to house new switchgear and computer control equipment. All installation work was done during outages scheduled for other plant objectives. New switchgear installed consists of 42 cells of 1000-MVA class equipment. The control system includes operator workstations, supervisory PLC, and remote I/O racks. Breaker control, metering, and loadshedding functions are performed by the control system.

The subject of energy-efficient lighting and lighting practices for the pulp and paper industry offers an opportunity to discuss energy-efficient lighting technologies, commencing with new current lighting products, the advantages and disadvantages of these new lighting products, coping with the disadvantages, their performance and design, and ways to apply these new products in an effective retrofit or in new construction applications. We will also review current recommended lighting practices for indoor and outdoor applications, and we will establish guidelines for improved techniques and economics with recommended illuminance values as applied to new projects or in the modernization of existing pulp and paper facilities.

The changing nature of education has forced educators to rethink the role of classrooms in student learning. Prior research has shown that the environmental and structural design of education centers impact student learning. With a dozen variables to deal with, classroom designers are faced with the daunting task of selecting one plan from the thousands that are possible. This paper demonstrates how tradespace exploration (TSE), an analytical methodology used by NASA and the DoD to design spacecraft and other complex systems, can be applied to the design of classrooms. To demonstrate the TSE methodology, a predictive model was built based on historical data collected by prior researchers on third and fifth grader test performance and data along 86 descriptive variables that they used to characterize the school and classrooms. An analysis of main effects using a multi-way ANOVA allowed the larger data set to be reduced to 8 composite independent variables that are predictive of student tests scores. This model was then used to generate thousands of possible school and classroom design permutations and predict the resulting student test scores. This allowed the authors to identify the Pareto frontier of designs that yield the greatest benefits for a given investment. The case study described in this paper demonstrates how this approach could be applied to enable decision-makers to identify a more effective allocation of resources or determine when changes in total investment are likely to have a significant impact on desired performance.

Recent studies on language acquisition and motivation have targeted Japanese language learners in a formal educational context, with less attention paid to learners who study Japanese informally. The current study aims to investigate the impact of Japanese animations in the context of informal third language acquisition. It targets the native speakers of Arabic who are interested in learning Japanese as a third language (L3), and investigates the motivations of Arab teenagers and young adults to learn Japanese. Further, the paper also focuses on examining aspects of Japanese language proficiency among teenagers and young adults, including vocabulary enhancement and grammar competence. The methodology used in the current study is twofold: an online survey questionnaire adopted from Armour and Iida (2016), followed by an engaging experiment in which participants were divided into two groups (reality anime group vs. action anime group) in order to examine the effectiveness of anime selection in boosting proficiency level. The findings of the online survey indicate that Arabic native speakers are highly motivated to learn Japanese, while the experiment results confirm that the type of anime and consistency of exposure do support the acquisition process. Further, the study concluded that consumption of anime series contributes to the learning process and facilitates learners' proficiency in general and vocabulary learning in particular. However, it remains unknown whether or not Arabic native speakers' motivations lead to their enrollment into formal Japanese foreign language education. Avenues for future research and implications are also presented toward the end of the paper.

People are increasingly reliant on various electrical devices for learning and memory, yet the implications and consequences of this dependence remain poorly understood. The present study aimed to investigate how learning through electrical media impacts recall under varying task difficulties. During this study, participants encoded information related to daily life situations (low difficulty), academic conceptual knowledge (middle difficulty), or associative word pairs (high difficulty), presented on smartphones, computers, or paper. At test, they recalled the omitted content based on the provided cue information. A significant screen-inferiority effect was observed for both computers and smartphones. However, the impairment related to computers disappeared in the retrieval of daily life situations and academic conceptual knowledge, whereas the impairment associated with smartphones was consistently present across all tasks. These results suggest that memory performance is modulated by the interaction between the presentation medium and the specific demands of the task, highlighting a more pronounced screen-inferiority memory effect when the media restrict the depth of processing or when the memory tasks pose greater external challenges. A deeper understanding of these factors can guide the optimization of electrical devices to enhance human memory abilities and functions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper offers an analytical review of Miller's classic paper of 1956 on 'the magical number 7'. It takes account of that paper's contradictions as well as of its implicit conclusions. Miller's text is by no means clear in its logic or in its terms, and a review might be deemed helpful to those who are trying to understand it. The discussion begins with a brief historical overview. Miller's paper is then reviewed according to the order of the points made by Miller, thus facilitating a lucid comparative reading with that paper. Guidance on interpreting Miller's text is given throughout, leading to a number of technical conclusions. Global trends in higher education emphasize the development of curricula that offer greater responsiveness to learners. Creating flexible and responsive curricula will require additional support systems for curriculum management. The first step toward sustainably developing this kind of system is to represent essential curricular information in a way that allows sharing common components across various work processes within the educational environment. The current research implements a new approach for representing curriculum components, by systematically analyzing external source data to extract the basic knowledge, skills and dependencies which then become objects into an ontology. The resulting ontology should act as a computationally-accessible model of the curriculum with sufficient information and usable quality. This paper describes a trial implementation of our approach using actual curriculum documents. Results from performance metrics and expert evaluation validate the proposed strategy and suggest that the approach is feasible for real-world practice.

The impact of digital technologies on the ways people work, learn and live has been debated and researched for half a century. Digital literacy approaches have recurrently been the focus of educational and industry learning; however, current framings of digital literacy are not sufficient to support students' digital capability development, nor do static digital literacies reflect the dynamic and contextual nature of digital capabilities. A digital capability continuum that fluidly moves between digital foundation skills, digital literacies and digital fluency is a more robust model for education. By unpacking the digital capability continuum and responding to both learning and curriculum paradigms, this paper expands on an earlier framework (Coldwell-Neilson, 2020), the decoding digital literacy framework, as well as building on our research and academic experiences, to inform higher education. A key agenda is that the higher education sector frames digital fluency as a mindset and an attitude. The model and framework underscore that capabilities need to be flexible and transferable across technologies, disciplines and the world of work.

In this paper, the feasibility of inkjet printing of circuit and microwave structures on paper-based substrates is investigated for the first time in the implementation of a complete low-cost wireless platform for sensors. First, the system-level design of the module including the amplifier characterization were carried out to ensure optimum performance of the sensor modules in the UHF bands used in RF identification communication. These results were then used to design two different antenna structures, which are printed on paper along with their respective circuit layouts using inket-printing technology. Different techniques were investigated for the assembly of circuit components on the silver printed layouts. Finally, wireless link measurements on the assembled prototypes verified the good performance on the wireless and sensing sides. This paper presents a comprehensive three-stage computer-based methodology for the initial setting of the speed and torque controllers for the drives of a paper machine. First, the controller gains are selected based on the figures-of-merit for the frequency- and time-domain responses of each drive to commands and disturbances. After that, the effect of the elastic shafts is considered evaluating the resonant frequencies and two-mass system responses. Finally, the responses of each group of drives to the process commands and/or disturbances of interest are evaluated. The use of the proposed methodology will assure fast and well-behaved responses of each group of drives of the different sections of a paper machine, with minimal field adjustments. Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) are characterized at X., Ku-, Ka-, and Q-bands by rectangular waveguide measurements. The scattering parameters (S-parameters) of thin MWNT papers containing a large ensemble of randomly oriented nanotubes are measured by a vector network analyzer from 8 to 50 GHz. A rigorous extraction algorithm has been developed to compute the effective complex permittivity ([epsilon] = [epsilon]' - [epsilon]') and permeability ([mu] = [mu]' - j[mu]') of the nanotube papers from the measured S-parameters. The extracted effective medium parameters are verified by finite-element simulations using Ansoft's High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). The uncertainties for this characterization method are analyzed. The systematic uncertainties are found larger at lower frequencies than at higher frequencies. The extracted conductivity of the nanotube papers is in the range of 810-1500 S/m and the dielectric constant is from 250 to 700. The extracted complex permittivity can be fitted with the Drude-Lorentz model for the 8-50-GHz frequency range. The effective medium theory is then applied to remove the impact of air in the nanotube paper. Dielectric testing techniques, in both time and frequency domains, are currently widely used by power utilities for assessment of the condition of transformer oil-paper insulation systems. However, it has been reported that results of these tests are highly influenced by the operating temperature during measurements. The distribution, migration and equilibrium of moisture between oil and paper in a complicated insulation system is highly temperature dependent. It requires adequate experience and proper understanding to interpret the dielectric response results in the presence of temperature variations and thermal instability. Proper analysis of the dielectric test result is only possible with an understanding of the physical behavior of the insulation system in response to temperature. A circuit model, which describes the dielectric behavior of the transformers main insulation system, has been investigated in this paper. The values of the parameters of the model have been identified from the dielectric tests. A correlation has been observed between the operating temperature and the equivalent model parameters that can be used as additional information for better interpretation of the dielectric test results. This paper thus reports a detailed study on the effects of temperature on dielectric measurements of a transformer under controlled laboratory conditions. Some results of practical on-site testing are also presented to demonstrate the possibility of errors that may be introduced in dielectric test results analysis unless temperature effects are taken into consideration. Contemporary rapid advancements in science and technology have brought about and continue to convey change in all sectors of everyday life. Education as one of the institutions of utmost importance is directly and indirectly affected by these changes and needs to redefine its role to keep pace. Nowadays, information and communications technologies (ICTs), in which audiovisual media technologies are encompassed, are omnipresent in all educational levels and disciplines, including media studies. New approaches in traditional teaching methodologies, which demand many skills and abilities by the educators, are reformulated through utilization of audiovisual media technologies, aiming at administering enriched outcomes that support the objectives that are set, especially in the field of media studies, where audiovisual media technologies are an integral part and even inherent in many of the courses (journalism, radio, television, social media, public relations, communication). The purpose of this paper is to summarize, through a theory and bibliographic review, the various implementations of audiovisual media as the educational techniques and tools that will provide technology-enhanced learning. As this paper is an investigation of the effects of audiovisual media in technology-enhanced learning and teaching methodologies, the contribution to the discipline of media studies is straightforward.

In this paper, inkjet-printed UHF and microwave circuits fabricated on paper substrates are investigated for the first time as an approach that aims for a system-level solution for fast and ultra-low-cost mass production. First, the RF characteristics of the paper substrate are studied by using the microstrip ring resonator in order to characterize the relative permittivity ([[epsilon].sub.T]) and loss tangent (tan [delta]) of the substrate at the UHF band for the first time reported. A UHF RFID tag module is then developed with the inkjet-printing technology, proving this approach could function as an enabling technology for much simpler and faster fabrication on/in paper. Simulation and well-agreed measurement results, which show very good agreement, verify a good performance of the tag module. In addition, the possibility of multilayer RF structures on a paper substrate is explored, and a multilayer patch resonator bandpass filter demonstrates the feasibility of ultra-iow-cust 3-D paper-on-paper RF/wireless structures. Special measures may be needed to select line insulators for transmission and distribution lines in locations exposed to freezing conditions. This first part of the paper describes the environmental and electrical stresses encountered in service that influence the risk of flashover on line insulators. Part II of the paper describes the strength of typical line insulation in these conditions and deals with selection and mitigation methods. In this paper, the influence of the stiffness and damping of real elastic shafts on the behavior of a multidrive system driving a tissue paper machine is investigated. The drive system consists of four dc motors, where two of them drive the Yankee drying cylinder and the other two drive the presses section. Six-pulse thyristor bridge power converters that are connected to the same power transformer supply the motors. The inertias of the motors and the driven machines, in conjunction with the shaft stiffness, form mechanical resonators. Thus, resonance phenomena may occur, which may lead to undesirable results. This particular case results to two three-mass and one five-mass systems. This paper presents an analysis of the resonance frequencies of two sections of the machine during startup and machine production, considering the shaft stiffness (shaft diameter, length, and thickness). The elastic shafts eliminate the ripple of the motor electromagnetic torque, which is transferred to the driven machine. The behavior of elastic shafts with different stiffness in the transmission system is studied. Moreover, the steady state and dynamic behavior of the system considering the influence of the elastic shafts and vibration analysis were investigated using simulation. A model algorithm for system simulation was developed using the MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Characteristic simulation results are presented and are expressed in terms of speed and torque response. Considering the resonance frequency analysis and simulation results, mechanical design guidelines can be given for the most significant drive components in order to avoid torsional oscillation resonance phenomena and minimize torsional oscillations of the drive system.
