As educational paradigms evolve, the integration of multi-sensory theory into the design of children's educational toys presents a promising avenue for enhancing learning experiences. This paper explores the efficacy of multi-sensory toys in improving children's attraction, interest, and learning efficiency through a systematic review and a pilot empirical study. The study specifically assesses the hypothesis that multi-sensory educational toys significantly increase children's engagement and learning outcomes compared to traditional toys. Conducted with a diverse group of children aged 3-6 in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, China, the research employs both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including engagement metrics and observational studies. The findings suggest that multisensory toys not only hold the potential to augment learning experiences but also require careful consideration of individual learning styles and preferences. The paper concludes with a discussion on the implications for future research and toy design, emphasizing the need for continued innovation and personalization in the development of educational toys to cater to the multifaceted needs of young learners. With the rapid growth rate of China's economy, the extensive pattern of economic growth of "high energy consumption and low output" has magnified the constraints of energy issues on China's economic development and environmental protection, which highlights the importance of improving energy efficiency. As one of the three major economic zones in China, the Pearl River Delta region also faces high energy consumption and pollution emissions while developing at a high speed. Hence, improving the energy efficiency of the Pearl River Delta region is needed, as it not only is conducive to driving its development of the surrounding green economy, but also promotes the subsequent sustainable economic development. However, there are few literatures on the calculation and analysis of energy efficiency in the Pearl River Delta, and lacking a systematic analysis of input–output index system of energy efficiency measurement. Therefore, this paper calculates the energy efficiencies and the Malmquist indexes based on the panel data of the nine cities in the Pearl River Delta from 2005 to 2019 through super-efficiency SBM model and Malmquist index method by using MAXDEA and MATLAB software. The result illustrates that all regions in the Pearl River Delta except Guangzhou and Shenzhen show obvious energy inefficiency, which is mainly caused by the imbalance between technical efficiency and scale efficiency. Based on the calculation results, this paper gives some relevant suggestions for the further approach of energy reform in the Pearl River Delta according to the calculation results. Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) causes a high mortality rate each year, which is a threat to human well-being and health. An automated external defibrillator (AED) is an effective device for heart attack-related diseases and is a panacea to save OHCA. Most relevant literature focuses on the spatial distribution, accessibility, and configuration optimization of AED devices, which all belong to the characteristics of the spatial distribution of AED devices. Still, there is a lack of discussion on related potential influencing factors. In addition, analysis of AED facilities involving multiple city comparisons is less considered. In this study, data on AED facilities in two major cities in China were obtained through the WeChat applet. Then, the AED equity at the city and block scales and its socioeconomic factors were analyzed using the Gini coefficient, Lorenz curve, and optimal parameters-based geo-graphical detector (OPGD) model. Results show that the number of AEDs in Shenzhen was about eight-times that of in Guangzhou. The distribution of AEDs in Shenzhen was more equitable with a global Gini of 0.347, higher than that in Guangzhou with a global Gini of 0.504. As for the determinants of AED equity, residential density was the most significant determinant in both Guangzhou and Shenzhen from the perspective of individual effects on AED equity. Differently, due to the aging population in Guangzhou, the proportion of the elderly in blocks was influential to local AED equity. The local economic development level was crucial to local AED equity in Shenzhen. The results of the interaction detector model illustrate that relatively equitable AED distributions were found in the high-density residential areas with a balance of employment and housing, high-aging residential areas, and high-mobility residential areas in Guangzhou. The area with a high level of local economic development, dense population, and large mobility was the area with a relatively equitable distribution of AEDs in Shenzhen. The results of this paper are conducive to understanding the equity of AEDs and its socio-economic determinants, providing scientific reference for the optimization and management of AEDs. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, as the major metropolitan areas in China, offer good opportunities for economic and social mobility for in‐migrants. As such, these four locations have become the primary employment destinations for recent college graduates. Meanwhile, these cities have the most stringent hukou policies nationwide, which play a key role in the urban labour market segmentation between local residents and in‐migrants. Using three waves of data from a nationally representative survey, the China College Student Survey (2010, 2013, and 2015), this paper, for the first time, examined whether Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen have emerged as an 'upward social class escalator region' for young adults in China. After accounting for observed demographic and human capital characteristics and migrant selectivity, migrating into Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen has been found to be positively associated with earnings attainment, and the economic benefit from relocation is greater than that experienced by migrants elsewhere in the system. However, in‐migrants to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen have fewer opportunities to enter government organisations and public enterprises. These results cast doubt on the potential for Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen to act as escalators for individuals wishing to achieve all‐around upwards social mobility in China's urban labour market. The local hukou barrier may still be a salient factor in shaping migrants' labour market outcomes in China. This study contributes to existing knowledge on escalator theory by providing empirical evidence from an emerging market country, China. Background: In the context of the "silver wave" and "technology wave", smart home care for older adults in the community provide new ways for China and other countries to support ageing in place. Yet, only very few studies have focused on developing a quality index system of smart care. This study attempted to draw on the SERVQUAL model to establish a quality evaluation index system for smart senior care for older adults in the community. Methods: On the basis of the service quality model, this paper has integrated qualitative and quantitative analyses using the Delphi and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methods to construct the index system of smart home care in the community and obtain the weights. These were based on literature research and field interviews in Guangzhou and Shenzhen pilot districts. Results: A quality evaluation indexes system of smart home care for older adults in the community was developed, with 5 primary indices and 33 secondary indices. The weights of the 5 stair indices from high to low were smart emergency assistance 0.332, smart meal assistance 0.272, smart medical assistance 0.229, smart cleaning assistance 0.110 and smart amusement assistance 0.057. Conclusion: The results from the weight allocation revealed smart emergency assistance, smart meal assistance, and smart medical care assistance were the most important and crucial aspects of community-based smart home care. The study also suggested that "timeliness", "reliability", and "ease of use" should be given more attention. It is recommended to use this index system as a regulatory benchmark to guide the government bodies, senior care enterprises and communities to take measures to enhance the quality. As China's economy has entered the development stage of a "new normal," the traditional path relying on investment scale expansion for economic growth can no longer sustain. Thus the key of the supply-side structural reform lies in breaking through the long-term path dependence and facilitating the transformation and innovation of socio-economic and urban development. This paper takes Shenzhen as the benchmark of the comparative study, and Guangzhou and Tianjin as the comparative object to analyze the contributions of the demand-side "troika" - investment, consumption, and export, to economic growth from 1986 to 2015. Then, it introduces multiple growth elements on the supply-side to analyze the significant contribution elements in urban economic growth and their contribution degrees. Meanwhile, in combination with the economic development background and the policy guidance since the reform and opening up, the paper analyzes the characteristics of the development paths and their trends of the three cities. In the end, based on the comparative study, it carries out a discussion on the development path for mega-cities and their urban planning strategies at the new era from three perspectives. As the largest carbon emitter in the world, China is facing increasing challenge to reduce CO2 emissions. Given this issue, exploring the influencing factors is of great significance for scientific low-carbon emission policymaking. Although previous literature has explored the effects of urbanization on CO2 emissions, the impact of the space of flow on urban carbon emissions have been less explored. Due to the increasing connection between cities, its impact on urban carbon emissions cannot be ignored. Thus, this paper takes the space of flows into account as an aspect of urbanization to supplement the existing literature and empirically examines the multiple effects of urbanization on CO2 emissions in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) urban agglomeration. By using a STIRPAT model, statistical data, and web crawler data, we examined impacts of different types of urbanization on CO2 emissions. Our empirical results show that: (1) Within the PRD urban agglomeration, urban linkage intensity is strongly connected to urban socioeconomic growth, establishing a geographical structure with Guangzhou and Shenzhen as the double core. (2) Our results show that urbanization exerts two opposite effects on CO2 emissions: positively connects carbon emissions with population urbanization, integrated urban linkage flow, and energy intensity, whereas economic urbanization and social urbanization are shown to be negatively correlated. However, spatial urbanization has no significant positive effect on urban CO2 emissions. (3) It is worth noting that urban linkage flows are the second most important factor affecting urban carbon emissions after economic urbanization. The construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area requires the establishment of a comprehensive port cooperation mechanism. Coordination is key to port integration. This paper establishes a multi-group Lotka-Volterra model based on the theory of competition and cooperation to study the evolution of the relationships among Hong Kong Port, Shenzhen Port, and Guangzhou Port. The results show that the three major ports have predator-prey roles and form a symbiotic competition and cooperation ecological pattern. The extended Hotelling model is established to study the central ports' spatial differences; the results show that whether it is the central port cooperation body or the entire central port group, the gains from Shenzhen Port-Guangzhou Port cooperation are greater than between either and Hong Kong Port for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's container business. The biggest competitor to Hong Kong Port in the container business is Guangzhou Port. Hong Kong Port will gain more from cooperation with Shenzhen Port and should strengthen such cooperation. The study provides quantitative support and reference for positioning the strategic development of the high-end shipping business in Hong Kong Port, the pilot free-trade port in Shenzhen Port, and the exploration of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong composite port, Guangzhou Port's comprehensive shipping hub. Although essential to successful environmental governance, public participation has been sporadic and fragmented in China. Drawing on in-depth interviews conducted in the southern Chinese cities of Shenzhen and Guangzhou, this paper explores how environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs) have carried out 'civilian river chiefs' projects as novel approaches to water governance. We propose a framework of 'double embeddedness', within which ENGOs have built political and social legitimacy, reciprocity, and networks that enable their sustained participation in water governance. Our findings suggest that new patterns of state–community–non-governmental organization relationships are key to understanding public participation in China's future environmental governance. Since 2008, the Chinese state has been developing new public housing programs, which are widely used to distribute public housing among talent workers. This paper examines public housing allocation to talent workers, especially to talent migrants. It argues that local governments have established a unique housing allocation approach best described as a state-employer model and that this model demonstrates a state-market hybridity in urban governance. The hybridity largely results from the "Chinese characteristics", the party-state's use of socialist institutions and management of the market based on these institutions. Although local governments have significantly improved migrant housing conditions, this hybrid model of housing allocation has inevitably resulted in both inequity and inefficiency in urban housing provision. In recent years, promoting regional synergistic development has become the shared objective in city-regions during the new stages of development. This paper aims to uncover the dynamics of synergistic development in urban agglomerations by constructing an index measurement system based on four dimensions: industrial synergy, innovation synergy, infrastructure synergy, and institutional synergy. By comprehensively employing theories and methods such as "space of flow" big data analysis, network analysis, and interlocking network models, this study examines patterns and capacities of synergistic development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The main instances of industrial cooperation between cities are observed in Hong Kong-Shenzhen and Guangzhou-Shenzhen; capital flows primarily concentrate in Guangzhou-Shenzhen and Hong Kong-Shenzhen. Research paper and patent collaborations between cities are predominantly concentrated in Hong Kong-Shenzhen; joint laboratories are mainly established in Hong Kong-Macao and Hong Kong-Guangzhou; inter-city co-construction of higher education institutions is mainly focused on Guangzhou-Foshan and Shenzhen-Hong Kong. Infrastructure synergistic development performs best in Guangzhou-Shenzhen, Guangzhou-Foshan, and Shenzhen-Dongguan. Cross-border collaboration benefits from institutional advantages held by Hong Kong and Macao. Urban interactions with outstanding performance include Guangzhou-Shenzhen, Hong Kong-Shenzhen, Guangzhou-Foshan, Shenzhen-Dongguan. Additionally, increasing interaction trends can be observed between Guangzhou-Dongguan as well as Shenzhen-Zhuhai/Shenzen-Foshan partnerships. The COVID-19 outbreak emerged in Wuhan, China, and was declared a global pandemic in March 2020. This study aimed to explore the association of daily mean temperature with the daily counts of COVID-19 cases in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, China. Data on daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 and daily mean temperatures were retrieved from the 4 first-tier cities in China. Distributed lag nonlinear models (DLNMs) were used to assess the association between daily mean temperature and the daily cases of COVID-19 during the study period. After controlling for the imported risk index and long-term trends, the distributed lag nonlinear model showed that there were nonlinear and lag relationships. The daily cumulative relative risk decreased for every 1.0 °C change in temperature in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. However, the cumulative relative risk increased with a daily mean temperature below − 3 °C in Beijing and then decreased. Moreover, the delayed effects of lower temperatures mostly occurred within 6–7 days of exposure. There was a negative correlation between the cumulative relative risk of COVID-19 incidence and temperature, especially when the temperature was higher than − 3 °C. The conclusions from this paper will help government and health regulators in these cities take prevention and protection measures to address the COVID-19 crisis and the possible collapse of the health system in the future. Megaregion has emerged as a global urban form, typically based on the polycentric strategy to enhance regional development. How to measure megaregional spatial structure and discriminate different roles of cities has become increasingly important to enrich the knowledge of the formation of a megaregion. Meanwhile, various indices have been used to identify vital nodes in the field of complex network. Which indices, however, are suitable for megaregion analysis remain unsolved. To address this requirement, this study first reviewed the typical indices for identifying vital nodes in the complex network theory, and pointed out that in a weighted city network scenario, weighted degree centrality, hub & authority score, and S-core decomposition (which represent network centrality, connectivity, and structures, respectively) are suitable for analyzing megaregional spatial structures. Then, we explored the city hierarchies and spatial structure in Guangdong Province, China, using the three indices. The hierarchical structure of the weighted city network in Guangdong Province had been identified using S-core decomposition. From the perspective of polycentric structure, Guangzhou and Shenzhen have the strongest node degrees and strength of mobility flows, while the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen corridor has been identified via the hub & authority score which is designed to evaluate the connectivity in a weighted network. Moreover, we conducted a comparison analysis of three indices. The findings of this study not only enrich the understanding of city hierarchies and the structure of a megaregion, but also highlight that although various indices are available, they should be applied selectively in accordance with the study context. The tertiary industry has become the main driving force for China's economic development, and the adjustment and optimization of its structure are important prerequisites for achieving high-quality economic development. Existing studies have mostly focused on the spatial layout and influencing factors of the tertiary industry, with insufficient exploration of its internal structure. In this study, the PRD urban agglomeration is selected as the study area. On the basis of classifying the tertiary industry, the Dagum Gini coefficient, kernel density estimation, and local spatial autocorrelation are used to explore the spatial differentiation of various tertiary industries. The influencing factors are analyzed using geographical detectors, and suggestions for future development strategies are proposed. The results show that in terms of regional differentiation, the agglomeration of various tertiary industries in Guangzhou and Shenzhen is the most significant, but there is insufficient spillover to surrounding cities. In terms of development structure, the level of agglomeration of the consumptive tertiary industry is higher, the public tertiary industry tends to be more evenly distributed, and the productive tertiary industry is relatively dispersed. In terms of influencing factors, the interaction between population and employment dominates the spatial differentiation and evolution of the tertiary industry in the PRD urban agglomeration. Therefore, in the future, the tertiary industry in PRD urban agglomeration should promote the optimization of industrial structure and regional coordinated development under the guidance of the government. Addressing the sustainability issues arising from construction and demolition waste management (DWM) has gained little traction due to the lack of incentives, stringent regulations, and systematic guidance. This study aims to empower systematic decision-making concerning DWM alternative selection by developing a sustainability assessment framework by coupling a modified Delphi method with the multicriteria decision analysis technique. First, the study identifies a comprehensive inventory of indicators across three dimensions of sustainability in the context of DWM. Next, the study combines a modified Delphi method with the analytic hierarchy process to validate and prioritize the selected sustainability indicators. For the first time, insights regarding the DWM sustainability indicators from China's construction industry practitioners' perspectives are elicited using a mixed method comprising online semistructured interviews and two rounds of questionnaire surveys. Experts participating in the research are mostly based in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, where local governments exhaust all efforts in promoting carbon-neutral and sustainable development. The findings reveal that eight sustainability indicators were regarded as the determinants for the sustainability performance of DWM, with the global warming potential (32%), energy efficiency (16.1%) and land use (13.5%) receiving the highest preference scores (weights) based on the experts' judgment. Notably, the economic factors like the total cost (6.54%) appeared not highly prioritized by the local experts as typically did in the previous studies from developing countries. Abstract: This paper is the second in a series of three papers aimed at understanding the emissions of vehicles in China by conducting on-board emission measurements. This paper focuses on light-duty gasoline vehicles. In this study, we measured 57 light-duty gasoline vehicles (LDGVs) in three Chinese mega-cites (Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen), covering Euro 0 through Euro IV technologies, and generated CO, HC, and NOx emission factors and deterioration rates for each vehicle technology. The results show that the vehicle emission standards have played a significant role in reducing vehicle emission levels in China. The vehicle emission factors are reduced by 47–81%, 53–64%, 46–71%, and 78–82% for each phase from Euro I to Euro IV. Euro 0 vehicles have a considerably high emission level, which is hundreds of times larger than that of Euro IV vehicles. Three old taxis and four other Euro I and Euro II LDGVs are also identified as super emitters with equivalent emission levels to Euro 0 vehicles. Of the measured fleet, 23% super emitters were estimated to contribute 50–80% to total emissions. Besides vehicle emission standards, measures for restricting super emitters are equally important to reduce vehicle emissions. This study is intended to improve the understanding of the vehicle emission levels in China, but some key issues such as emission deterioration rates are yet to be addressed with the presence of a sufficient amount of vehicle emission measurements. Most existing studies have investigated short-term associations between ozone exposure and acute disease events among children at a daily timescale, which might neglect risk effects happening within several hours after ozone exposure. In this research, we aimed to depict intraday associations between pediatric emergency department visits (PEDVs) and exposure to ozone in order to better detect ultra-short-term effects of ozone exposure on children. We obtained hourly data of all-cause PEDVs, air pollutants, and meteorological factors in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, China, 2015–2018. We applied time-stratified case-crossover design and conditional logistic regression models to estimate odds ratios per 10-μg/m3 rise of ozone concentrations at various exposure periods (e.g., 0–3, 4–6, 7–12, 13–24, 25–48, and 49–72 h) prior to PEDVs, controlling for hourly relative humidity and temperature. Subgroup analyses divided by gender, age, and season were undertaken to identify the potential susceptible population and period. A total of 358,285 cases of PEDVs were included in two cities, and hourly average concentration of ozone was 45.5 μg/m3 in Guangzhou and 58.9 μg/m3 in Shenzhen, respectively. Increased risks of PEDVs occurred within a few hours (0–3 h) after exposure to ozone and remained up to 48 h. Population risks for PEDVs increased by 0.8% (95% confidence interval, 0.6 to 1.0) in Shenzhen and 0.7% (0.5 to 0.9) in Guangzhou for a 10-μg/m3 increase in ozone concentrations at lag 4–6 h and lag 7–12 h, respectively. These findings were robust to co-exposure adjustments in our sensitivity analyses. Significantly greater ozone-associated risks were consistently observed during cold months (October to March of the following year) in both cities, while we did not identify evidence for effect modification of children's age and gender. This study provided novel evidence for increased risks of acute disease events among children within several hours after ozone exposure, highlighting the significant implications for policymakers to establish hourly air quality standards for better protecting children's health. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is the world's workshop and one of the most rapidly growing economic regions in the world. In the GBA multi-port system, Hong Kong, which is one of the world's largest shipping centres and once the leading port in the GBA, has experienced a continuous decline in recent years and has been successively overtaken by two other GBA ports (i.e. Shenzhen and Guangzhou). This paper explores the concentration, inequality, and competition of the GBA multi-port system during the 1972 – 2020 period from multi-faced perspectives. Results indicate that: 1) Hong Kong has witnessed an entire K-wave evolution, and 2) the evolution of the GBA multi-port system is a result of the asynchronous development stages of different GBA ports; 3) Missing the opportunity period of 2000 – 2008, the transfer of capital from Hong Kong and the Chinese "opening up" policy are the direct, the underlying and the root causes behind this evolution; 4) A tri-hub multi-port system has gradually taken shape in the GBA finally, in which Hong Kong is the second runner-up after Shenzhen and Guangzhou. The prospect of the Hong Kong Port would not be optimistic, and a negative impact of Guangzhou on Hong Kong could be expected in the near future. Conversion rule is a key element for a cellular automata (CA) model, and it is a significant and challenging issue for both domestic and international experts. Traditional research regarding CA models often constructs a single conversion rule for the entire study area, without differentiating it on the basis of the unique growth features of each location. On the basis of this, a partitioned and heterogeneous land-use simulation model (PHLUS) is constructed by integrating a CA and Markov model: (1) A general conversion rule is constructed for the entire study area. By establishing a land development potential evaluation index system, the conversion rule is refined and differentiated; (2) By coupling a CA model with a Markov model, PHLUS can realize land-use simulation both in micro and macro scales. A simulation study is conducted for the Pearl River Delta region. The results show that: (1) By transforming the CA model rules to further distinguish zones, the accuracy is improved. Compared with the traditional CA-Markov model, the simulation accuracies for 2010 and 2020 are improved by 11.55% and 7.14%, respectively. For built-up land simulation, the PHLUS simulation errors for 2010 and 2020 are only 0.7% and 0.57%, respectively; and (2) Under land-use simulation for 2030, cultivated land and forest land will transfer to built-up land. The built-up land area will reach 10,919 km2. Guangzhou and Shenzhen have the greatest potential for land development, and the built-up land area for the two cities will reach 2727 km2. Understanding intercity mobility patterns is important for future urban planning, in which the intensity of intercity mobility indicates the degree of urban integration development. This study investigates the intercity mobility patterns of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) in China. The proposed workflow starts by analyzing intercity mobility characteristics, proceeds to model the spatial-temporal heterogeneity of intercity mobility structures, and then identifies the intercity mobility patterns. We first conduct a complex network analysis, based on weighted degrees and the PageRank algorithm, to measure intercity mobility characteristics. Next, we calculate the Normalized Levenshtein Distance for Population Mobility Structure (NLPMS) to quantify the differences in intercity mobility structures, and we use the Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) to identify intercity mobility patterns. Our results showed an evident 'Core-Periphery' differentiation characterized by intercity mobility, with Guangzhou and Shenzhen as the two core cities. An obvious daily intercity commuting pattern was found between Guangzhou and Foshan, and between Shenzhen and Dongguan cities at working time. This pattern, however, changes during the holidays. This is because people move from the core cities to peripheral cities at the beginning of holidays and return at the end of holidays. This study concludes that Guangzhou and Foshan have formed a relatively stable intercity mobility pattern, and the Shenzhen–Dongguan–Huizhou metropolitan area has been gradually formed. Controlling and mitigating CO2 emissions is a challenge for the global environment. Furthermore, transportation is one of the major sources of energy consumption and air pollution emissions. For this reason, this paper estimated CO2 emissions by the bottom-up method, and presented spatiotemporal patterns by spatial autocorrelation methods from transportation during the period 2006 to 2016. It further analyzed the impact factors of CO2 emissions in the Pearl River Delta by the Logarithmic Mean Divisa Index (LMDI)decomposition method. The results indicated that from 2006 to 2016, total CO2 emissions increased year by year. Guangzhou and Shenzhen were the major contributors to regional transportation CO2 emissions. From the perspective of different transport modes, intercity passenger transport and freight transport have always been dominant in the past 11 years. The results indicated that aviation transport was the largest contributor, and that travel by road was the second one. The CO2 emissions generated by rail and water transport were much lower than those from aviation. Private cars became the main source of urban passenger transport CO2 emissions, and their advantages kept increasing. The results indicated that the spatial agglomeration trend feature was negatively correlated, and the further the distance, the more similar the attributes. The cumulative contribution values of population, economic development, transport intensity, energy intensity and energy structure were all positive values, while the cumulative contribution values of transport structure and emission factor were negative. The findings of this study offer help for the scientific understanding of those CO2 emissions from transportation, and for adopting effective measures to reduce CO2 emissions and for the development of green transportation. The Turnover Intention Scale (TIS) is perceived to be a comprehensive measure of turnover intention. However, the extant literature has not validated the turnover intention scales (TIS-15 and TIS-6) in Chinese context. This study aims to examine the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of TIS (C-TIS) in terms of its factorial validity, scale reliability, descriptive statistics, and construct validity in social work profession. A cross-sectional study was conducted in three Chinese cities: Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shunde in 2018 and it turned out that 196 valid questionnaires were collected from professional social workers. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed a better fit for the six-item-single-factor model of the C-TIS-6 than the C-TIS-15. The C-TIS-6 showed acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha =.70). Regarding construct validity, turnover intention measured by C-TIS-6 was positively correlated with perceived stress, while inversely correlated with collective psychological ownership and work engagement. Job position and length of job tenure contributed no significant impact in predicting turnover intention of social workers after controlling demographic factors and economic conditions. This comprehensive study addressed the occurrence, seasonal changes, removal efficiencies, and environmental risk assessments of three macrolide antibiotics in five wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with conventional and different additional treatment processes. A 1-year monitoring study was conducted, and influents and effluents were collected from Guangzhou (GZ), Shenzhen (SZ), Tai Po (TP), Shatin (ST), and Stonecutters Island (SI) WWTPs. Solid phase extraction and HPLC-MS/MS were used for the pretreatment and determination. The detection limits for azithromycin (AZI), erythromycin (ERY), and roxithromycin (ROX) ranged from 0.80 to 2.13 ng/L for the influent and effluent water samples. AZI was the most abundant antibiotic found in the influents, with average concentrations ranging from 571 ng/L to 1046 ng/L at all the target WWTPs. The seasonal average AZI concentration was the highest in all five WWTPs with the concentration of 984 ng/L in autumn, 849 ng/L in winter, 741 ng/L in summer, and 533 ng/L in spring. The seasonal AZI removal rates in the WWTPs were similar, with an average removal rate above 63.3% from spring to winter. All the treatments in the five WWTPs showed removal abilities for AZI, ERY, and ROX, regardless of the three phase treatments, namely, the UV disinfection process and conventional or chemically enhanced process within the WWTPs. For ERY and ROX, the average total removal rates were significantly decreased in the spring among all five WWTPs, at 53.1% and 57.8%, respectively. The GZ and SZ WWTPs displayed better removal rates than the TP, ST, and SI WWTPs, because the activity underlying the modified A2/O process in the GZ and SZ WWTPs has important effects on the antibiotic removal because the bacteria could produce compact granules and make the antibiotics settle faster in the wastewater. The additional UV disinfection in the SZ WWTP improved the removal efficiencies of the target antibiotics; it enhanced the biodegradability of residual organic pollutants in the WWTP effluent. Rapid urbanisation and economic growth in developing Asian countries have exacerbated their exposure to flood hazards, particularly evident in low-lying urban cities that are currently facing increasing risks from extreme precipitations, likely made worse by the impending climate change. We present a set of simplified indices representative of the characteristics of rainfall-run-off process for evaluating pluvial flood hazard using the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. The highly urbanised Pearl River Delta (PRD) region in southern China is studied as an example of mapping the regional pluvial flood hazard and assessing the socio-economic exposure at risk. The developed hazard map captures the broad patterns of high flood hazard zones when compared with reported surface water flooding hotspots and the PRD riverine flood map from the 2015 Global Assessment Report. Further analysis on the regional socio-economic profiles suggests that most PRD cities are faced with large flood loss potential, with estimates of approximate 23 million people and 2.4 trillion RMB gross domestic product exposed to high flood hazard. Mega cities Guangzhou and Shenzhen top the ranking with over 20–40% of their dense urban settlements in the high flood hazard zone. This highlights the impact of human activities on the natural surface run-off process, and the need for robust flood hazard assessment for better understanding and design of holistic solutions towards more adequate flood mitigation systems for continuous urbanisation and future climate conditions. Aim: The aim was to determine the diagnostic value of epithelial–mesenchymal transition typing of circulating tumour cells (CTCs) in colorectal cancer (CRC). Method: Peripheral blood samples were collected from 51 CRC patients before anti‐tumour treatment from April 2016 to June 2018 at the Peking University Shenzhen Hospital. The blood samples were analysed using the CanPatrol CTC typing technique (SurExam, Guangzhou, China), which combines nanomembrane enrichment with mRNA in situ hybridization. Based on the marker expression, the CTCs were classified into epithelial, epithelial mesenchymal and mesenchymal (M‐CTC) types. The correlation between the CTC counts and clinicopathological characteristics such as gender, age, TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis were analysed by univariate and multivariate Cox regression models. The overall survival and progression‐free survival (PFS) of patients demarcated by CTC typing were analysed using the Kaplan–Meier method and log‐rank tests. Result: M‐CTCs were detected more frequently in patients with lymph node metastasis (N2 81.8%; N1 72.7%; N0 38.9%) as well as distant metastasis (M0 50%; M1a 81.25%; M1b 85.7%) compared to those without metastasis. In addition, the presence of M‐CTCs was significantly correlated with distant metastasis (P < 0.01). Univariate analysis showed that lymph node metastasis (P = 0.035), distant metastasis (P < 0.001) and total CTC count ≥ 4 (P = 0.007) and M‐CTC count ≥ 1 (P < 0.001) were significantly associated with unfavourable PFS, and lymph node metastasis (P = 0.04), distant metastasis (P = 0.01) and M‐CTC count ≥ 1 (P < 0.001) were significantly associated with unfavourable overall survival. Multivariate analysis showed that the presence of M‐CTCs was the only independent prognostic factor for poor PFS, and patients with M‐CTCs had significantly shorter PFS than those without (P = 0.011). Conclusion: M‐CTCs are significantly associated with CRC severity and metastasis, and M‐CTC count is an independent predictor of prognosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

China has adopted purchase of services to facilitate the development of the societal sector, including social organisations, the social work profession and social services. Project-based and post-based purchases are two typical policy designs. Why do the local states develop two different designs to serve similar intentions? The answers to this question contribute to the broader discussion of policymaking and social development in China. Using the intention-capacity analytic framework, this study systemically compares Guangzhou's project-based model and Shenzhen's post-based model by drawing upon an extensive review of policy and archive documents, key informant interviews and field observations. The comparative study suggests that a pro-market ideology and incomplete analytical capacity in policy learning directed the design thinking towards market mechanism and purchase of services. Without the organisational conditions of social organisation and social work in Guangzhou, rapid growth in the social work workforce became the top priority in Shenzhen. Meanwhile, the trustworthiness of newly developing social organisations is another concern. All of these concerns underpinned the post-based design. Both models, with substantial fiscal support, succeed in expanding the societal sectors. But the mix of market and hierarchy tools, for the post-based model in particular, is an obstacle in further enabling social organisation and the social work profession. China’s rapid urbanisation has created a special form of urban built environment known as ‘village in the city’ (ViC). Various governance approaches have been applied to redevelop ViCs, which are prevalent in big cities. However, owing to the specific conditions of ViCs and the diverse contexts of urban development within and across cities, those approaches remain largely case-specific and are hampered by a lack of guiding principles. This article presents a framework on modes of governance to understand the choice of and the differences between modes of governance as well as their positive and negative consequences for the regeneration of ViCs. Case studies of various types of ViC regeneration practices in Guangzhou and Shenzhen are used to illustrate the framework’s application. The article concludes that new modes of governance that are interactive, inclusive and collaborative are called for to achieve the sustainable regeneration of ViCs. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Travel time data is an important factor for evaluating the performance of a public transport system. In terms of time and space within the nature of uncertainty, bus travel time is dynamic and flexible. Since the change of traffic status is periodic, contagious or even sudden, the changing mechanism of that is a hidden mode. Therefore, bus travel time prediction is a challenging problem in intelligent transportation system (ITS). Allowing for a large amount of traffic data can be collected at present but lack of precisely-conducting, it is still worth exploring how to extract feature sets that can accurately predict bus travel time from these data. Hence, a feature extraction framework based on the deep learning models were developed to reflect the state of bus travel time. First, the study introduced different historical stages of bus signaling time, taxi speed, the stop identity (ID) of spatial characteristics, and real-time possible arrival time, signified by fourteen spatiotemporal characteristic values. Then, an embedding network is proposed to leverage a wide and deep structure to mate the spatial and temporal data. In order to meet the temporal dependence requirements, an attention mechanism for a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) was designed in this research in order to capture the temporal information. Finally, a Deep Neural Networks (DNN) was implemented in this research in order to achieve the dynamic bus travel time prediction. Two case studies of Guangzhou and Shenzhen were tested. The results showed that the performance of the algorithm was more efficient than that of the traditional machine-learning model and promoted by 4.82% compared to the deep neural network applied to the initial feature space. Moreover, the study visualized the weighted cost of attention on the bus's travel time features during a certain running state. The secure operation of 110-kV networks should be considered in the optimal generation dispatch of regional power grids in large central cities. However, since 110-kV lines do not satisfy the premise of R << X in the direct current power flow (DCPF) model, the DCPF, which is mostly applied in the security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC) problem of high-voltage power grids, is no longer suitable for describing the active power flow of regional power grids in large central cities. Hence, the quadratic active power flow (QAPF) model considering the resistance of lines is proposed to describe the network security constraints, and an SCUC model for power system with 110-kV network and pumped-storage hydro (PSH) units is established. The analytical expressions of the spinning reserve (SR) capacity of PSH units are given considering different operational modes, and the SR capacity of PSH units is included in the constraint of the SR capacity requirement of the system. The QAPF is a set of quadratic equality constraints, making the SCUC model a mixed-integer nonlinear non-convex programming (MINNP) model. To reduce the computational complexity of solving the model when applied in actual large-scale regional networks, the QAPF model is relaxed by its convex hull, and the SCUC model is transformed into a mixed-integer convex programming (MICP) model, which can be solved to obtain the global optimal solution efficiently and reliably by the mature commercial solver GUROBI (24.3.3, GAMS Development Corporation, Guangzhou, China). Test results on the IEEE-9 bus system, the PEGASE 89 bus system and the Shenzhen city power grid including the 110-kV network demonstrate that the relaxed QAPF model has good calculation accuracy and efficiency, and it is suitable for solving the SCUC problem in large-scale regional networks.
