The objectives of the study were: 1) Describe the thematic structure and evolution of the field of physical therapy; 2) identify the main research producers (i.e. countries and institutions); and 3) compare their research output and citation impact. Papers related to physical therapy indexed in Web of Science (2000–2018) were identified to delineate the field, using keywords, journals, and citation networks. VOSviewer software, advanced bibliometric text mining, and visualization techniques were used to evaluate the thematic structure. We collected data about the country and institutional affiliation of all the authors and calculated production and citation impact indicators. 85,697 papers were analyzed. Eleven thematic clusters were identified: 1) "health care and education"; 2) "biomechanics"; 3) "psychosocial, chronic pain and quality of life outcomes"; 4) "evidence-based physical therapy research methods"; 5) "traumatology and orthopedics"; 6) "neurological rehabilitation"; 7) "psychometrics and cross-cultural adaptation"; 8) "gait-balance analysis and Parkinson's disease"; 9) "exercise"; 10) "respiratory physical therapy"; and 11) "back pain." The United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia were the most productive countries. Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden had the highest citation impact. Our bibliometric visualization approach makes it possible to comprehensively study the thematic structure of physical therapy. The ranking of producers has evolved and now includes China and Brazil. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the Austrian health care system using the ecology of care model. Our secondary aim was to compare data from Austria with those available from other countries. Design: 3508 interviews employing a 30-item questionnaire related to the utilization of the health care system including demographic factors were conducted. Participants were chosen by a Random Digital Dialing procedure. Further, a literature review of studies of other countries use of the ecology of care model was conducted. Main outcome measures: Austria has one of the highest utilization of health care services in any of the assessed categories. The comparison with the literature review shows that Austria has the highest utilization of specialists working in the outpatient sector as well as the highest hospitalization rates. Taiwan and Korea have comparable utilization patterns. Canada, Sweden, and Norway are countries with lower utilization patterns, and the U.S. and Japan are intermediate. Conclusion: In Austria and similarly organized countries, high utilization of all health care services can be observed, in particular, the utilization of specialists and hospitalizations. The over-utilization of all levels of health care in Austria may be due to the lack of a clear demarcation line between the primary and secondary levels of care, and the presence of universal health coverage, which also allows for unrestricted and undirected access to all levels of care. Previous studies have shown that comparable countries lack the health benefits of a strong primary care system with its coordination function. In Austria and similarly organized countries, there appears to be high utilization of health care in general, as well as with particular utilization of specialists and hospitalizations. The high utilization of all levels of care in Austria may be the result of competition, lack of a clear demarcation line between the primary and secondary level of care, and the presence of universal health coverage. Pathways between primary and secondary care should be strengthened as previous studies have shown that comparable countries lack the health benefits of strong primary care and its function for health care coordination. This article focuses on the assessment procedures of Norwegian PhD theses as viewed by external members of evaluation committees from three countries with different examination systems; the USA, the UK and Sweden. Their viewpoints give useful information not only on the pros and cons with the Norwegian system, but also on the strengths and weaknesses of their own national assessment systems. Various procedures of the four national PhD assessment systems are compared: the composition of the evaluation committee, the status of the thesis as published work, the pre-examination assessment, and the examination and defence. The article provides information from various aspects of the field of international serials and electronic resource management. Abstracts for several research articles are included on topics such as scholarly electronic books (e-books) and open source data in academic publishing. Additionally, awards and grants presented by the American Library Association (ALA) in 2011 are highlighted along with notes on the reorganization of the United Kingdom Serials Group (UKSG). Brief information regarding the 2012 conference for the UKSG and a list of online resources related to serials librarians are also included.

Expanding on the introduction to the multinational study described in the first article, this article briefly reviews informants’ contexts of treatment across Italy, Norway, Sweden, and the United States, and provides a cursory description of each informant, organized according to her or his respective country. The informant descriptions are followed by illustrative third-person narratives drawn from interviews with two informants from Sweden. As a counterpoint to themes derived across informant narratives, such as the roles of home, significant others, and coping strategies, this article attempts to illustrate how such themes are interwoven within the context of individuals’ lives and personal journeys toward recovery. As part of a growing literature describing processes of recovery in psychotic disorders, this report presents findings of an intensive, international study. Open-ended qualitivite interviews were conducted in Italy, Norway, Sweden, and the United States with a total of twelve individuals who have experience of recovery in psychosis. All interviews were translated into English and transcribed. Investigators from each of these countries collaborated in analyzing the interviews and identifying common elements across the twelve narratives. Themes were identified in each of the following areas: 1) how the individual deals with his or her difficulties; 2) the role of material resources; 3) the various roles of formal and informal health systems; 4) the roles, and absence, of significant others; and 5) the roles of social and cultural factors. Salient themes included the person's determination to get better, establishing a degree of self–control, and struggling to achieve a normal life; the need for material resoures and a sense of home, and the importance of going out and engagging in normal activities; the benifits, and costs, of medication, involvement in mutual support/user groups, and participation in various psychosocial interventions; the need to be accepted as, and to accept oneself as, a normal person who exists beyond the psychosis; the impact of stigma and discrimination, and the imortance of having one's rights respected and returning to a meaningful social role through work and/or positive relationships outside of the formal mental health system. Cultural differences between participants from each country were noted primarily in the nature of the opportunities and supports offered rather than in the nature of the processes described. In closing, implications of these findings are considered both for future research on processes of recovery and for making clinical practice more recovery-oriented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
