The challenges associated with facilitating an organizational environment that promotes work engagement and is supportive of employee psychological well-being are well documented. This study focused on the longitudinal relationships between work engagement and three supportive job resources: supervisor support, colleague support and individual perceptions of the wider resource of work culture support. The sample comprised 1196 employees of an Australian state police service, both police officers and civilian staff, who completed self-report surveys across three waves of data collection. Work culture support predicted higher supervisor support, colleague support and work engagement over time lags of 12 and 18 months. Furthermore, work engagement was a significant predictor of work culture support over the two time lags. Significant indirect relationships were also observed. With the large volume of work-related factors potentially influencing work engagement, the results of this research assist in clarifying the specific supportive job resources that impact upon work engagement over time. Individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs) have consistently been shown to report elevated levels of anger and rates of violence perpetration. Given that heightened anger can increase risk for violence and also impede treatment for SUD, it is important to identify correlates of anger and violence among individuals in SUD treatment settings. While previous research has identified factors associated with anger and violence among individuals with SUD, these studies tend not to adequately address the role of comorbidity or trait aggression in their samples. This is particularly important given that comorbid mental health disorders, for example post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), have been shown to be associated with anger and violence perpetration among individuals with SUD. This paper aims to examine demographic and mental health correlates of anger and violence among individuals in treatment for SUD. Structured interviews were carried out with 58 participants recruited from a residential detoxification clinic. Findings indicate that individuals with comorbid mental health symptoms, particularly symptoms of anxiety, are also likely to present with elevated levels of anger. In addition, a history of childhood trauma exposure and high levels of trait aggression were significantly associated with violence perpetration in the sample. This information can assist clinicians in identifying individuals prone to anger and violence and aid in the development of interventions designed to reduce anger and the likelihood of violence among individuals entering substance use treatment. This paper explores which measures of health accurately reflect the functional capabilities of individuals -- that is, in what measures of health do those classified as having poorer health actually have poorer functional outcomes. Using the 2003 Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers, cross-tabulations, chi-squared analysis, and logistic regression models were used to identify the relationship between functional outcomes (core activity limitations and employment and education participation) and various measures of health and disability (composite disability measure, health utility scores and general health assessment). Both the composite disability measure and the health utility score accurately capture individual functional capacity -- with both measures being related to employment participation, employment and education restrictions, and core activity imitations. The health utility scores can also be divided into a categorical measure and still reflect this functional capacity. The general health assessment measure is also related to functional capacity and can potentially be used in the place of both the composite disability measure and the health utility score.
