This chapter focuses on the creation and implementation of a course taught to college students using the format of a classroom without walls. One approach to teaching history/social studies is to have students explore a location through an integrated framework, such as "PERSIA" in order to build deep understanding of its people and its culture. Teachers at all levels who seek to move beyond the traditional classroom by incorporating more experiential learning and/or authentic pedagogy could integrate this model into their teaching either on a study-abroad site or through virtual technologies.
