Therapeutic doses of various cytostatics appear to act selectively on different structures of the skin. With intravenons endoxan the hair follicle is always markedly affected, although sweat glands are also involved. Intra-arterial epodyl causes complete but reversible destruction of the hair follicle, while sweat glands remain intact. The effect of chemical inhibitors in two human in vitro systems for detecting antibody-dependent (ADLC) and direct lymphocyte-mediated cytotoxicity (DLC) was studied. Both reactions were inhibited by cytochalasin B and by depiction of divalent cations. The immunosuppressant methylprednisolone inhibited both reactions. No inhibition was found with 6-mercaptopurine.
