In this study, a traffic queue model is employed to simulate traffic parameters for optimization purposes. The primary objective is to enhance the average queue length, cumulative delay, and cumulative reward for varying numbers of vehicles generated using an innovative approach. The proposed methodology integrates deep Reinforcement Q-Learning techniques implemented through a realistic simulator, Simulation of Urban MObility, based on OpenStreetMap. This simulator is used to balance the flow of traffic by monitoring traffic conditions and adjusting signals (Red/Yellow/Green) accordingly. The research extensively evaluates simulation outcomes across different scenarios involving 50, 100, 500, and 1000 vehicles, with episodes 10, 50 and 100. The results provide valuable insights into training times, simulation durations, and total rewards obtained, indicating improvements in mitigating traffic congestion. The introduction of a traffic control strategy enhances model effectiveness through the utilization of four-layer deep neural network architectures with 400 neurons in hidden layers. However, the study also highlights persistent challenges related to real-time implementation and complexities in state-action-agent relationships. The progress highlights improvements in reducing congestion and enhancing efficiency at junctions by dynamically adjusting signal phases while leveraging historical data. A distributed firewall is a security application that monitors and controls traffic on an organization's network. While centralized firewalls are used against attacks coming from outside a network, distributed firewalls are considered for inside attacks from internal networks such as wireless access and VPN tunnel. Distributed firewalls use policies, which are stated by rules, to find anomalous packets. However, such static rules may be incomplete. In this case, by monitoring firewall logs, the anomalies can be detected. Such logs become big when networks have high traffic, but their hidden knowledge contains valuable information about existing anomalies. In this paper, to detect the anomalies, we extract patterns from big data logs of distributed firewalls using data mining and machine learning. The rapid development of urbanization in China has contributed to traffic events, such as traffic accidents and delays. It is difficult to detect and resolve highway traffic congestion in a timely manner using traditional methods because they are slow, require a large number of workers, and require the installation of a large amount of monitoring equipment. Therefore, it is imperative to introduce advanced technology to address these challenges. Recently, deep learning technology has made significant breakthroughs and has been widely applied to various fields with satisfactory results. Deep learning is among the most important technologies for the detection and evaluation of traffic congestion, enabling the accurate detection of the state of the expressway network's traffic congestion, the evaluation of traffic congestion, and the prediction of possible traffic congestion. This enables management to formulate traffic dredging strategies in advance to prevent the negative impact of traffic congestion on normal traffic flow. This paper proposes a framework based on deep learning for next-generation highway traffic management. This framework selects traffic congestion indicators to construct an index model, and then constructs a deep learning model based on self-coding. It predicts and classifies highway traffic environment data and excavates sample data based on the characteristics of traffic parameters. As soon as traffic data were classified, a prediction model based on SoftMax was established to detect and predict highway traffic congestion. We conducted a traffic congestion analysis of the Shanghai expressway network based on the speed performance data obtained from the China Traffic Management Bureau. As a result of their research, we developed an index to measure highway traffic congestion. For traffic control and management organizations to function effectively, it is crucial to have an accurate and clear picture of traffic network operations. We evaluated the proposed framework using data gathered from highway monitoring scenes, and the results indicated that 98.6% of the data could be correctly detected. Using the prediction model based on SoftMax for expressway vehicles during peak hours, the accuracy was 92%, and the misjudgment rate was 8%. This study demonstrates that detecting and evaluating the state of highway traffic environments using deep learning has high accuracy, can be applied to actual highway traffic systems, and is extremely useful for detecting highway congestion. With the rapid development of internet technology and mobile devices, massive streaming data of spatiotemporal information is available for real-time data mining. Outlier detection is playing as one of the most important analysis tasks for trajectory stream processing, such as traffic control and urban planning. Existing work about this issue can be divided into two main categories: individual outlier detection (IOD) and group outlier detection (GOD). IOD focuses on detecting an individual trajectory outlier generated by a single moving object (e.g., an over-speeding car), while GOD aims to detect a group outlier generated by various moving objects (e.g., a group of cars influenced by a traffic jam). However, existing studies only support one of them and cannot comprehensively understand the traffic conditions by combining both of them. To this end, we propose a novel framework for real-time urban traffic outlier detection (RUTOD) in this paper. RUTOD contains IOD based on current traffic conditions and GOD according to historical data. In addition, we adopt a street-based trajectory division to accelerate investigation. Noise has emerged as a leading environmental problem and is an underestimated threat. The most significant source of noise pollution is road traffic. Road traffic noise problem has reached alarming levels. This proves the severity and necessity of mitigating the traffic noise from every delicate corner possible. Noise monitoring is required to check the noise levels and effectiveness of control methods implemented. Road traffic noise control can be exercised with the help of prediction models. This paper presents the traffic noise status of developing countries and a quantitative review and comparison of traffic noise prediction models developed by researchers for various cities. Findings suggest that most of the researchers have used regression modelling and use of evolutionary computing methods like genetic algorithm, fuzzy systems, and neural networks to develop traffic noise prediction model is lacking. The effect of many important variables affecting traffic noise like pavement type, vegetation along roads, road surface roughness, and gradient still needs to be studied. Further, studies are required to measure in vehicle noise levels on same roads to compare the noise levels tolerated by residents, road users, and the commuters; this will help in formulating traffic noise regulations. In recent years, the sharp increase in the number of residential motor vehicles and non-motorized vehicles has led to a huge challenge in the intelligent control of urban road traffic operation status. To address the problems of low accuracy of small target detection in complex traffic scenes and the difficulty of balancing the accuracy and detection speed of multiple targets, we propose a deep learning-based Semantic interpolation target detection network SI-SSD based on feature pyramid network FPN and feature graph fusion method, and transfer it to target detection in complex traffic scenes. Shallow feature maps have multi-edge information and deep feature maps have high semantic information. With this idea in mind, the high-resolution shallow feature layer Conv4_3 for the detection of small targets and the deep feature layer Conv7_2 with rich semantic information in SSD network are fused, so as to enhance the sensitivity of the network to the feature information of small targets and improve the network's ability to detect small targets in complex traffic scenarios. The experimental results show that the improved SI-SSD network model has good robustness in the detection of relatively small targets, which can ensure the detection speed and improve the accuracy of detection and recognition significantly. Tests of the data sets UA-DETRAC and VOC2007 show that in the detection of relatively small targets such as Motorbike and Pedestrian, the accuracy is 89.3% and 86.7%, respectively, and the mean average precesion (mAP) is 89.05%. Compared with other target detection networks based on deep learning, the average accuracy of all types of target detection is improved by 4%, and the detection speed is maintained at about 32 fps. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) refer to a group of battery-operated tiny sensor nodes having vast application areas in daily use. These are spatially dispersed and dedicated wireless sensor nodes for observing and recording the different parameter and physical conditions of the surroundings. There is a recent advancement in the field of network connectivity and computations in WSNs. The key functions of WSNs are a data extraction and to transmit the extracted data to the server placed at an isolated location. Various types of WSNs like underground underwater, terrestrial, and multimedia networks get applications domains such as in industrial automation, traffic monitoring and control medical device monitoring, and many other areas. Despite the thriving market, there are several challenges like energy efficiency, limited storage and computation, low bandwidth, high error rates, scalability, and survivability in harsh environment; hence, network lifespan expanding is a critical demanding issues. So many researchers have earlier focused towards finding the optimal path in between member node and sink node, so that energy depletion can be reduced to improve the network lifespan. There are different challenges in WSNs but one of the most challenging issues is how to minimize the energy consumption; numerous bio-inspired techniques have been proposed previously to obtain an optimal path between the member node and the sink node. Noise and air pollution are among the most important problems and challenges in urban environments. Noise can cause several problems in functioning within urban settlements and may result in a variety of health problems. Continuous monitoring, prevention, and active work on solving these problems are in the focus of research communities, local and national agencies and organizations, and many international organizations. Traffic noise on city roads has been identified as one of the major problems in urban settlements. Fortunately, it can be monitored and controlled in a way that can reduce its level and negative effects. One of the most effective and cheapest ways to monitor and control traffic noise is to use wireless sensor networks, IoT technology, and cloud-based architectures. This article presents an approach in designing urban traffic noise monitoring system based on LoRaWAN and microservices oriented architecture supported with open-source hardware and software solutions. Design of the system includes planning LoRaWAN network and development of the IoT system layered architecture. Methods for traffic routing and rerouting in urban areas, based on experiments that uses Dijkstra and Floyd–Warshall algorithms are presented. The system implementation and evaluation of the proposed routing modifications are presented in the case of the city of Zrenjanin in Serbia. Since the current Internet is only able to provide best-effort services, the quality of service (QoS) for many emerging businesses cannot be well guaranteed, especially for delay-sensitive services. Meanwhile, due to the privatization of the network management, it is difficult to provide on-demand QoS services in large-scale heterogeneous networks. In addition, attacks from unauthorized access users also threaten the security of the whole network. Therefore, heterogeneous networks bring new challenges to the flexible control of different network equipment. Software-defined network (SDN) is an emerging paradigm which separates the network's control logic from the underlying different network elements. Moreover, it promotes the centralization of network control to improve end-to-end QoS services, and introduces the program ability to mitigate threats. In this paper, we design a monitoring loop of link latency by using both LLDP and Echo probing modules. Then, a dynamic routing algorithm is proposed to select optimized transmission paths based on the information of link latency. Next, we develop a routing application assorted with the monitoring mechanism by extending the RYU controller. More specifically, we implement our solution in a semi-practical SDN testbed. Pedestrian detection is one of the challenging tasks in the urban traffic environments. A natural urban traffic environments include different objects like buildings, vehicles, pedestrians and so on. The conventional approach only used for a particular traffic scenario and it does not suitable for different scenarios. A novel approach is required to model these traffic scenarios. Multiresolution Morlet Decomposition Based Iterative Learning Deformable Part Model (MMD-ILDP) is proposed for improving the performance of multiresolution pedestrian detection to control the traffic in the urban area with higher accuracy. The MMD-ILDP Model uses Morlet wavelet transformation for decomposing the image into subbands with multiple resolutions. After wavelet decomposition, histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) feature pyramid is generated. Then, feature matching is performed between the pedestrian objects in the image and the feature pyramid generated with HOG and the root and part scores are computed. Finally, the root and part scores are combined to compute the final score of objects in the image. The performance measures used in evaluating the proposed algorithm are detection accuracy, time and space complexity. The simulation results show that the MMD-ILDP Model gives improved pedestrian detection in urban traffic environment where healthcare systems find more difficult to reach to the people and also reduces the time complexity on detecting the pedestrians in road traffic scenes when compared to the existing DPM and RealBoost methods. Direction of walk of a pedestrian is vital information in various applications like visual surveillance, traffic monitoring and control, assisted living systems and automated car assistance system. Existing methods of direction of walk estimation exploit inter-frame and intra-frame features of a pedestrian frame sequence to classify the motion among predefined discrete direction classes. However, in order to achieve a robust method to estimate direction of walk, a strong analogy to justify an evident stationary or motion pattern as potential feature for direction estimation is essential. Discrete results of walk direction are famously used as it can be estimated in less time and are preferable for less precision sensitive scenario. However, the intra-frame feature that yields per-frame orientation is underutilized when the walk directions are subjected to discrete classes and hence there is a stringent need to go beyond discrete levels of direction and comment on specific walk direction angles at the same time maintaining a strong analogy to justify the potential of proposed features for direction of walk estimation. With this motivation, the article proposes a type-1 fuzzy approach over apposite inter-frame as well as intra-frame locomotion feature of pedestrian to yield precise direction of walk in terms of fuzzy directions beyond discrete levels of pedestrian walk directions. The method identifies eight directions as potential membership functions. Identified features are subjected to rule-based table for identification and removal of noisy orientation results, decision on membership function and their membership grade generation. The defuzzified result yields crisp direction of walk estimates beyond discrete levels of direction. The enhanced direction of walk estimation results is evident from qualitative comparison from existing research works and is also supported by the simulation performed over different datasets. The proposed method achieves 98.33%, 98.79%, and 100% Rank-2 balanced accuracy while applied on CASIA Dataset A, B, and NITR Conscious Walk Dataset respectively, which clearly points out its better performance than state of the art. As global internet traffic continues to increase, network operators face challenges on how to efficiently manage transmission in their networks. Even though attempts are underway to make optical networks automatic, the majority of actions related to traffic engineering are still performed manually by the administrators. In this paper we propose an Automatic Hidden Bypasses approach to enhance resource utilization in optical networks. Our solution uses the software-defined networking concept to automatically create or remove hidden bypasses which are not visible at the network layer. Wireless network sensors and their use in traffic monitoring, traffic density determination or vehicle speed detection and classification have recently been the focus of interest for researchers. This article describes how a new sensor circuit was designed to deliver instantaneous, real-time and novel solutions as a vehicle detection system, which is more powerful than the nodes used in other studies, and gives results with smaller error margins due to its serial communication qualification. With the proposed logic algorithm, it was possible to categorise the instantaneous traffic status of a road in four levels: no traffic, mild traffic, heavy traffic and very heavy traffic. Additionally, with the nodes placed at the beginning and the end of the road, the number of vehicles per hour for a day was determined and traffic was analysed. Then, vehicles passing by were classified with a proposed classification algorithm and magnetic signature length (MSL) parameter as cars, minibuses, buses and trucks, and an accuracy rate of 95% was obtained. As the last application, the direction of motion of the vehicle on the x-axis as well as left-to-right or right-to-left directions was determined, and the result was 94% accurate. The simplicity of the proposed algorithms, the absence of any complex mathematical calculations, the low cost of the sensor node and circuit and the low power consumption of the communication system demonstrate the superiority of this system in comparison with other studies. In India, traffic flow on roads is highly mixed in nature with wide variations in the static and dynamic characteristics of vehicles. At unsignalized intersections, vehicles generally do not follow lane discipline and ignore the rules of priority. Drivers generally become more aggressive and tend to cross the uncontrolled intersections without considering the conflicting traffic. All these conditions cause a very complex traffic situation at unsignalized intersections which have a great impact on the capacity and performance of traffic intersections. A new method called additive conflict flow (ACF) method is suitable to determine the capacity of unsignalized intersections in non-lane-based mixed traffic conditions as prevailing in India. Occupation time is the key parameter for ACF method, which is defined as the time spent by a vehicle in the conflict area at the intersection. Data for this study were collected at two three-legged unsignalized intersections (one is uncontrolled and other one is semicontrolled) in Mangalore city, India using video-graphic technique during peak periods on three consecutive week days. The occupation time of vehicles at these intersections were studied and compared. The data on conflicting traffic volume and occupation time by each subject vehicle at the conflict area were extracted from the videos using image processing software. The subject vehicles were divided into three categories: two wheelers, cars, and auto-rickshaws. Mathematical relationships were developed to relate the occupation time of different categories of vehicles with the conflicting flow of vehicles for various movements at both the intersections. It was found that occupation time increases with the increasing conflicting traffic and observed to be higher at the uncontrolled intersection compared to the semicontrolled intersection. The segregated turning movements and the presence of mini roundabout at the semicontrolled intersection reduces the conflicts of vehicular movements, which ultimately reduces the occupation time. The proposed methodology will be useful to determine the occupation time for various movements at unsignalized intersections. The models developed in the study can be used by practitioners and traffic engineers to estimate the capacity of unsignalized intersections in non-lane-based discipline and mixed traffic conditions. This paper presents a software application to generate ground-truth data on video files from traffic surveillance cameras used for Intelligent Transportation Systems (IT systems). The computer vision system to be evaluated counts the number of vehicles that cross a line per time unit -intensity-, the average speed and the occupancy. The main goal of the visual interface presented in this paper is to be easy to use without the requirement of any specific hardware. It is based on a standard laptop or desktop computer and a Jog shuttle wheel. The setup is efficient and comfortable because one hand of the annotating person is almost all the time on the space key of the keyboard while the other hand is on the jog shuttle wheel. The mean time required to annotate a video file ranges from 1 to 5 times its duration (per lane) depending on the content. Statistical data on road traffic and the results of laboratory studies are used to construct a mathematical model of a driver-driver state monitor-automobile-traffic system. In terms of the model, the probability of an accident resulting from the drowsy state of the driver is determined both in the absence and presence of a monitor. The model takes into account the efficiency and safety level provided by different monitoring systems, as well as psychological factors associated with the excessive reliance of drivers upon monitoring. This paper explores the efficacy of the driver-based incident detection using the vehicle-to-roadside communication (VRC) system. The proliferation of vehicle tags in the US for automatic toll collection, traffic monitoring, and vehicle navigation and information systems has created an infrastructure capable of supporting a driver-based incident detection system. The research reported herein investigated the use of "activatable" vehicle tags by drivers to send an incident signal to the Traffic Management Center through VRC reader stations spaced uniformly on a highway. The simulation results showed that good detection performance was achieved even at lower levels of market penetration of vehicle tags. The results further showed that detection performance is significantly affected by the severity of the incident in terms of number of lanes closed, the spacing of the VRC reader stations, traffic volume at the time of the incident, and the reporting propensity of the traveling public.The performance of the VRC-based incident reporting system was compared to the performance of two incident detection algorithms that rely on traffic data collected through the automatic vehicle identification (AVI) system. The comparison showed that the VRC-based incident reporting system attained shorter detection times and higher detection rates under fairly similar simulated conditions.
