Recent advancements in the industrial revolution and artificial intelligence have aided in the development of novel approaches that have considerable potential for increasing the efficiency of traffic networks. Emerging concepts of autonomous driving and machine learning can be incorporated intelligently for improving traffic operations and control. In the coming years, traffic composition can vary in terms of autonomous vehicle (AV) penetration rate, which can lead to a heterogeneous traffic environment. Traffic control methods for such complex networks need to be designed effectively for accommodating the positive effects of AV implementation without compromising the safety and level of service in the presence of regular vehicles (RVs). An intelligent-based optimization framework for traffic signal control under heterogeneous AV-based traffic is proposed in this paper. This framework utilizes state-of-the-art machine-learning approaches to represent and design different components of the optimization process of cycle length. Further, SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) is used to enhance model interpretability. The proposed optimization framework improves performance under congested traffic conditions compared with that of the conventional optimization methods. Compared to pure RV-based traffic, the penetration rates of 25%, 50%, and 100% can decrease optimized cycle lengths by 26%, 39%, and 53%, respectively, which can result in delay reductions of approximately 18%, 31%, and 56%, respectively. The proposed framework when applied in an adaptive-based manner can help in the generalization of controlling existing signalized intersections with the gradual penetration of AVs without the extra infrastructure or specific operational and connectivity capabilities of the involved vehicles. The current traffic signal light timing scheme cannot effectively solve the problem of traffic congestion. This paper studied the intelligent control of signal lights based on infrared sensors. Firstly, the traffic flow was detected by infrared sensors; then, the future traffic flow was predicted using a back-propagation neural network; an intelligent control algorithm was designed based on the prediction results, and data were collected at the actual intersection for simulation experiments. It was found that the maximum and minimum root-mean-square error (RMSE) value of the BPNN prediction were 72.33 and 45.77, respectively, i.e., BPNN could predict the traffic flow accurately. Then, in the comparison of timing schemes, the maximum average queuing delay time of the BPNN was 0.55 s, and the maximum average queuing length was 92 m in the case of large traffic flow, both of which were better than the traditional fixed timing scheme. Under the context of rapid development of the Internet of vehicles and vehicle-road collaboration system, active traffic management (ATM) becoming the mainstream means of road traffic control and developing toward refinement. In this paper, to study the high-precision lane-level dynamic induction control strategy in different scenarios, based on the NaSch model of cellular automata and combined with the characteristics of the failure section area, a fuzzy lane-changing bypass vehicle-following model considering lane-changing pressure in multi-lane failure scenarios was built. The simulation results show that (i) if the lane failure occurs on the middle lane, the lane should be induced in advance, and the induced lane change effect is the best at about 100 m. When the lane failure occurs in the left lane and right lane, the prompt is best at about 250 m. (ii) The induced distance should be based on actual traffic conditions, free combination of different early warning distances between 100 and 300 m can save about 20–30 s congestion time. (iii) The lane-level dynamic coordinated guidance control measures can effectively improve the road traffic efficiency compared with the static unified control measures, improve the traffic efficiency of road performance, and alleviate traffic congestion time. This paper proposes a convolutional neural network (CNN) model of the signal distribution control algorithm (SDCA) to maximize the dynamic vehicular traffic signal flow for each junction phase. The aim of the proposed algorithm is to determine the reward value and new state. It deconstructs the routing components of the current multi-directional queuing system (MDQS) architecture to identify optimal policies for every traffic scenario. Initially, the state value is divided into a function value and a parameter value. Combining these two scenarios updates the resulting optimized state value. Ultimately, an analogous criterion is developed for the current dataset. Next, the error or loss value for the present scenario is computed. Furthermore, utilizing the Deep Q-learning methodology with a quad agent enhances previous study discoveries. In recent years, the problem of traffic congestion has become increasingly serious, and research on traffic system control has become a new hotspot. Studying the bifurcation characteristics of traffic flow systems and designing control schemes for unstable support points can alleviate traffic congestion from a new perspective. This article improves the full speed differential model considering strong wind models from the perspective of bifurcation control to adjust traffic flow. This article theoretically proves the existence conditions of Hopf bifurcation and saddle node bifurcation in the model and finds the stability mutation point of the transportation system stability. A nonlinear system feedback controller was designed for unstable bifurcation points using Chebyshev polynomial approximation and random feedback control methods. Without changing the system equilibrium point, the advance, delay, and elimination of Hopf bifurcation were achieved, and the abrupt behavior of the transportation system was controlled, thereby alleviating traffic congestion. This article explains the changes in the stability of complex transportation systems from the perspective of bifurcation analysis, which can better capture the characteristics of traffic flow. By adjusting the control parameters in the feedback controller, the influence of boundary conditions on the stability of the transportation system is fully described, and the influence of unstable focal points and saddle points on the system is suppressed, thereby slowing down the traffic flow. In addition, unstable bifurcation points can be eliminated, and the Hopf bifurcation can be controlled to advance, delay, and disappear, thereby achieving control over the stable behavior of the transportation system. In this work, the connected vehicle's messages are used to create an enhanced adaptive traffic signal control (ATSC) system for improved traffic flow. Few existing studies use connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) to develop traffic signal control algorithms under hybrid connected and autonomous conditions. The proposed approach focuses on a four‐phase traffic intersection with both CAVs and human‐driven vehicles (HVs). CAVs share real‐time state information, and a model called Roads Dynamic Segmentation estimates queuing procedures and vehicle fleet numbers on dynamic road sections. This information is used in the Store and Forward Model (SFM) to predict intersection queuing length. The ATSC system, based on model predictive control (MPC), aims to minimize intersection queue length while considering traffic constraints (undersaturated, saturated, and oversaturated) and avoiding free‐flow problems due to queue overflow. To reduce computational complexity, a linear‐quadratic‐regulator (LQR) is used. Real‐world vehicle trajectories and the SUMO tool are used for experimental purposes. Results show that the proposed method reduces average delay by 38.50% and 33.42% compared to fixed timing and traditional MPC in cases of oversaturated traffic flow with 100% CAV penetration. Even with a penetration rate of only 20%, average delay decreases by 13.65% and 6.50%, respectively. This study showcases not only the potential benefits of CAV in enhancing traffic, but also enables the optimal utilization of green duration in signalized intersection control systems. Traveling demand increased rapidly on the roads of big cities. Traffic congestion is observed on a regular basis and causes serious problems for citizens. It is a vital need in larger cities to deal with the problem of overcrowded roads because Traffic congestion has negative consequences on daily routines and activities. All of the factors that cause traffic-jam affect our lives physically, mentally, and economically. It has been observed that one of the factors of the traffic jam is traffic diversion. Traffic diversion reroutes all the traffic towards alternative tracks that causes traffic jams to the diverted road. In recent years, high-resolution traffic signal event data has provided valuable insights into understanding and managing congestion at signalized intersections. While existing applications primarily employ automated traffic signal performance monitoring (ATSPM) systems as postanalysis tools for identifying everyday congestion causes, traffic engineers are increasingly overwhelmed by the number of ATSPM-capable intersections. The workload increases extensively as the number of ATSPM-capable intersections rises mainly due to the necessity of manually checking and generating performance figures. Nonetheless, an advanced ATSPM system capable of automatically detecting time-of-day congestion bottlenecks among multiple intersections and suggesting "top intersections of interest" would significantly aid traffic managers in monitoring historical congestion and preventing future congestion occurrences. This paper introduces an efficient graphical automated congestion ranking method for capable intersections, leveraging high-resolution traffic signal event data as the basis for automated congestion ranking. To accomplish these objectives, we build upon ATSPM concepts by continuously generating ATSPM measures of effectiveness (MOEs). Utilizing continuously generated ATSPM performance measures in Frisco, Texas, over several months, we devise an efficient graphical method for ranking hourly congestion levels among the studied ATSPM-capable intersections. All intersections are assessed and ranked using a multiobjective optimization technique, the Pareto front method. The points on the Pareto front represent dominating intersections with at least one inferior performance measurement, warranting prioritized improvement. The dominating points identified from the test dataset were validated and further explained using Purdue coordination diagrams (PCD), along with another individual dataset--Wejo-connected vehicle data. Global urbanization and increasing traffic volume have intensified traffic congestion throughout transportation infrastructure, particularly at toll plazas, highlighting the critical need to implement proactive transportation infrastructure solutions. Traditional toll plaza management approaches, often relying on manual interventions, suffer from inefficiencies that fail to adapt to dynamic traffic flow and are unable to produce preemptive control strategies, resulting in prolonged queues, extended travel times, and adverse environmental effects. This study proposes a proactive traffic control strategy using advanced technologies to combat toll plaza congestion and optimize traffic management. The approach involves deep learning convolutional neural network models (YOLOv7–Deep SORT) for vehicle counting and an extended short-term memory model for short-term arrival rate prediction. When projected arrival rates exceed a threshold, the strategy proactively activates variable speed limits (VSLs) and ramp metering (RM) strategies during peak hours. The novelty of this study lies in its predictive and adaptive capabilities, ensuring efficient traffic flow management. Validated through a case study at Ravi Toll Plaza Lahore using PTV VISSIMv7, the proposed method reduces queue length by 57% and vehicle delays by 47% while cutting fuel consumption and pollutant emissions by 28.4% and 34%, respectively. Additionally, by identifying the limitations of conventional approaches, this study presents a novel framework alongside the proposed strategy to bridge the gap between theory and practice, making it easier for toll plaza operators and transportation authorities to adopt and benefit from advanced traffic management techniques. Information about spatial distribution (OD flows) is a key element in traffic management systems in urban transport networks that enables efficient traffic control and decisions to redirect traffic to less congested sections of the network in emergencies. With the development of modern techniques of remote sensing, more and more advanced methods are used to measure traffic and determine OD flows. However, they may produce results with different levels of errors caused by various factors. The article examines the impact of traffic volume and its variability on the error values of short-term prediction of the OD matrix in the urban network. The OD flows were determined using a deep learning network based on data obtained from video remote sensing devices. These data were recorded at earlier intervals concerning the forecasting time. The extent to which there is a correlation between the size of OD flows and the prediction error was examined. The most frequently used measure of prediction accuracy, i.e., MAPE (mean absolute percentage error), was considered. The analysis carried out made it possible to determine the ranges of traffic flow rate for which the MAPE stabilizes at the level of approximately 6%. A set of video remote sensing devices was used to collect spatiotemporal data. They were located at the entrances and exits from the study area on important roads of a medium-sized city in Poland. The conclusions obtained may be helpful in further research on improving methods to determine OD matrices and estimate their reliability. Machine learning (ML) methods, particularly Reinforcement Learning (RL), have gained widespread attention for optimizing traffic signal control in intelligent transportation systems. However, existing ML approaches often exhibit limitations in scalability and adaptability, particularly within large traffic networks. This paper introduces an innovative solution by integrating decentralized graph-based multi-agent reinforcement learning (DGMARL) with a Digital Twin to enhance traffic signal optimization, targeting the reduction of traffic congestion and network-wide fuel consumption associated with vehicle stops and stop delays. In this approach, DGMARL agents are employed to learn traffic state patterns and make informed decisions regarding traffic signal control. The integration with a Digital Twin module further facilitates this process by simulating and replicating the real-time asymmetric traffic behaviors of a complex traffic network. The evaluation of this proposed methodology utilized PTV-Vissim, a traffic simulation software, which also serves as the simulation engine for the Digital Twin. The study focused on the Martin Luther King (MLK) Smart Corridor in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA, by considering symmetric and asymmetric road layouts and traffic conditions. Comparative analysis against an actuated signal control baseline approach revealed significant improvements. Experiment results demonstrate a remarkable 55.38% reduction in Eco_PI, a developed performance measure capturing the cumulative impact of stops and penalized stop delays on fuel consumption, over a 24 h scenario. In a PM-peak-hour scenario, the average reduction in Eco_PI reached 38.94%, indicating the substantial improvement achieved in optimizing traffic flow and reducing fuel consumption during high-demand periods. These findings underscore the effectiveness of the integrated DGMARL and Digital Twin approach in optimizing traffic signals, contributing to a more sustainable and efficient traffic management system. Urbanization has led to accelerated traffic congestion, posing a significant obstacle to urban development. Traditional traffic signal scheduling methods are often inefficient and cumbersome, resulting in unnecessary waiting times for vehicles and pedestrians, exacerbating the traffic situation. To address this issue, this article proposes a dynamic traffic signal scheduling system based on an improved greedy algorithm. Unlike conventional approaches, we introduce a reward function and a cost model to ensure fair scheduling plans. A constraint function is also established, and the traffic signal scheduling is iterated through the feasible matrix using the greedy algorithm to simplify the decision-making process and enhance solution efficiency. Moreover, an emergency module is integrated to prioritize special emergency vehicles, reducing their response time during emergencies. To validate the effectiveness of our dynamic traffic signal scheduling system, we conducted simulation experiments using the Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) traffic simulation suite and the SUMO traffic control interface Traci. The results indicate that our system significantly improves intersection throughput and adapts well to various traffic conditions, effectively resolving urban traffic congestion while ensuring fair scheduling plans. The traffic control of signalized intersection has become even more important as the rate of motorization is rapidly growing nowadays. Many methods are known in the world for calculating fixed-time signaling plans. The effective operation of fixed-time signalized intersection is achieved through plans calculated on the basis of peak-hour data so that the plans respond to both free traffic conditions and congested ones. One of the most frequently used methods is the wellknown Webster's formula. The classic Webster formula has its own flaws regarding the overestimation of the cycle time in cases where the degree of saturation rate corresponds to congestion conditions. In this paper a new regression model is proposed applying linear programming optimization namely Simplex method. To emphasize the usability of optimized model over the Webster formula the comparisons of the deterministic queue length and Webster uniform delay is done. In this study, a traffic queue model is employed to simulate traffic parameters for optimization purposes. The primary objective is to enhance the average queue length, cumulative delay, and cumulative reward for varying numbers of vehicles generated using an innovative approach. The proposed methodology integrates deep Reinforcement Q-Learning techniques implemented through a realistic simulator, Simulation of Urban MObility, based on OpenStreetMap. This simulator is used to balance the flow of traffic by monitoring traffic conditions and adjusting signals (Red/Yellow/Green) accordingly. The research extensively evaluates simulation outcomes across different scenarios involving 50, 100, 500, and 1000 vehicles, with episodes 10, 50 and 100. The results provide valuable insights into training times, simulation durations, and total rewards obtained, indicating improvements in mitigating traffic congestion. The introduction of a traffic control strategy enhances model effectiveness through the utilization of four-layer deep neural network architectures with 400 neurons in hidden layers. However, the study also highlights persistent challenges related to real-time implementation and complexities in state-action-agent relationships. The progress highlights improvements in reducing congestion and enhancing efficiency at junctions by dynamically adjusting signal phases while leveraging historical data. With recent technological advancements, the commercialization of autonomous vehicles (AVs) is expected to be realized soon. However, it is anticipated that a mixed traffic of AVs and human-driven vehicles (HVs) will persist for a considerable period until the Market Penetration Rate reaches 100%. During this phase, AVs and HVs will interact and coexist on the roads. Such an environment can cause unpredictable and dynamic traffic conditions due to HVs, which results in traffic problems including traffic congestion. Therefore, the routes of AVs must be controlled in a mixed traffic environment. This study proposes a multi-objective vehicle routing control method using a deep Q-network to control the driving direction at intersections in a mixed traffic environment. The objective is to distribute the traffic flow and control the routes safely and efficiently to their destination. Simulation results showed that the proposed method outperformed existing methods in terms of the driving distance, time, and waiting time of AVs, particularly in more dynamic traffic environments. Traffic light optimization is known to be a cost-effective method for reducing congestion and energy consumption in urban areas without changing physical road infrastructure. However, due to the high installation and maintenance costs of vehicle detectors, most intersections are controlled by fixed-time traffic signals that are not regularly optimized. To alleviate traffic congestion at intersections, we present a large-scale traffic signal re-timing system that uses a small percentage of vehicle trajectories as the only input without reliance on any detectors. We develop the probabilistic time-space diagram, which establishes the connection between a stochastic point-queue model and vehicle trajectories under the proposed Newellian coordinates. This model enables us to reconstruct the recurrent spatial-temporal traffic state by aggregating sufficient historical data. Optimization algorithms are then developed to update traffic signal parameters for intersections with optimality gaps. A real-world citywide test of the system was conducted in Birmingham, Michigan, and demonstrated that it decreased the delay and number of stops at signalized intersections by up to 20% and 30%, respectively. This system provides a scalable, sustainable, and efficient solution to traffic light optimization and can potentially be applied to every fixed-time signalized intersection in the world. With the increasing number of urban vehicles, as well as the current situation of non-intelligent traffic control systems, spatiotemporal non-uniform traffic resource occupation, and limited traffic planning and design, existing urban traffic planning methods cannot effectively solve problems such as frequent traffic congestion and uncontrollable commuting time for residents. In order to solve the above problems, this paper first constructs a multi-queue, multi-server queuing model based on the server vacation and a multi-hop cascaded queuing model from the perspective of local intersections and global commuting paths. We analyze the theoretical changes in passage delay costs at local intersections and on global commuting paths as a function of traffic flow and the random duration of traffic signals. On this basis, this article proposes a collaborative intelligent traffic planning algorithm based on artificial intelligence, which utilizes traffic sensors to dynamically perceive traffic congestion status and collaboratively plans the optimal duration of traffic signals and the optimal driving path of vehicles from both local and global perspectives, thereby maximizing the on-time arrival ratio of vehicles while ensuring the required commuting delay. The simulation results show that the proposed method can increase the on-time arrival ratio of vehicles by at least 20% compared to contrast methods while meeting the requirements relating to commuting delays. The phenomenon of traffic congestion started in the second half of the twentieth century. This arose because of our society's constant increase in demand for mobility. The excessive traffic of vehicles attempting to use the same infrastructure at the same time is what causes congestion. The consequences are well-known: delays, air pollution, reduced speed, and dissatisfaction (which may lead to risky maneuvers, reducing pedestrian and other driver safety). Our objective is to simulate the change in traffic patterns brought about by app users in residential areas (using navigational tools like Google Maps and Apple Maps), where the majority of navigational tools provide shortcuts that go through residential areas. In addition to discouraging navigation apps from directing drivers through residential areas during peak hours to mitigate pollution levels, by developing an algorithm based on the technology of Green Light Optimized Speed Advisory (GLOSA) and implementing it in a simulated environment (VISSIM), we can see the effect of changing the duration of red lights while keeping green lights constant. Overall, this solution can be implemented to change the times of traffic lights without the need for supplies, additional equipment, or warning signs because most cities' traffic lights are already remotely controlled. In addition, this procedure is temporary to provide some freedom and does not adhere to the speed specified for drivers who wish to pass through residential areas outside of rush hour. This paper uses colored Petri nets (PN) to develop a model of vehicle movement in a city. The modeler defines the number and location of crossroads, the connections between them, and how many vehicles are at the given points of the network. The vehicles are recognized by their license plate numbers, and it is possible to determine where they start their journey and where they are going. The algorithm proposed in this paper suggests the shortest vehicle route based on Dijkstra's algorithm. This study focuses on improving route planning by considering road usage, which is determined by the starting and ending locations of vehicles (as if traffic cameras were identifying license plates). This approach will lead to optimal control of traffic lights (or vehicle navigation) to minimize traffic jams and make good use of all roads. The alleviation of traffic congestion relies on efficient traffic control and traffic guidance, which are based on real-time short-term traffic flow prediction. In this paper, the stacked autoencoder (SAE) deep learning model with powerful feature learning capability is selected to predict the traffic flow on road sections. The process of training SAE includes the pre-training phase and the fine-tuning phase, which mainly apply the BP algorithm. However, the process of training SAE is time-consuming and cannot meet the real-time performance of modern application systems. This paper proposes a parallel training strategy for the SAE prediction model based on data parallel mode. The gradient solution process in our algorithm satisfies the conditions of parallel computing, so the training process can be designed in a parallel manner. The original dataset is distributed to some computing nodes, which are work nodes. The work node is responsible for gradient calculation using the local data. The task of the sole master node is to synthesize the gradient calculation results and then broadcast the updated gradient to each work node. The simulation results show that the SAE-based prediction model achieves better results than the traditional model, and the parallel algorithm reduces the running time of training processes. Phase 3 gathered data in the checklist and tested the statistical validity of the thematic model in a sample of 190 (81 women and 103 men) regular commuters. Attride-Stirling model thematic network was established with 57 fundamental themes categorized and assigned under the organizing themes of travel adversities (n = 6), negative affect (n = 28), fight (n = 7), flight (n = 6), and negative road occurrences (n = 10), in the global theme, psychological experiences and consequences. Identification and evaluation of traffic congestion are critical for better management of urban traffic, especially at merge sections where two different traffic streams converge and generate shockwaves. This study evaluates the travel time reliability measure (travel time index (TTI)) as a reliable congestion measure by analysing the impact of traffic flow parameters such as traffic volume, capacity, road geometrics and conflicting traffic flows at merge sections on TTI under mixed traffic conditions. The data required for congestion analysis were collected through video recording. Statistical models were developed to: (a) evaluate the relationship between road geometric characteristics and capacity of merge sections; (b) estimate traffic density and its evolution with time and compare it against occupancy values; and (c) correlate the relationship between TTI and traffic behaviour at merge sections and determine the variations in TTI for different levels of service of merge sections. The models developed are statistically validated using secondary data sets from the same study section, as well as from data collected from other multi-lane merge sections. The developed model successfully estimated recurring congestion by considering both space and time. Summary: Road accidents and traffic congestion are the unavoidable consequences of the growing number of vehicles on the road. Conventional management systems are not effective in mitigating these issues. However, a range of technologies, including sensors, processors, vehicle‐based resources, and mobile cloud computing, can help solve traffic and safety problems. Vehicular cloud networks, a cutting‐edge technology for the development of intelligent transportation systems, face significant challenges, such as ensuring reliable service providers that maintain stable connections between vehicles. Roadside units (RSUs) play a crucial role in these networks, but they come with several drawbacks, including high costs, imbalanced load distribution, and unreliable connections. To address these issues, we propose the Traffic Control and Safety in Vehicular Networks (TCaS‐VN) algorithm, a cloud‐based sharing services framework for vehicles that eliminates the need for RSUs. The research of traffic congestion control has been developed rapidly in recent years. Researching the bifurcation characteristics of traffic flow and designing control schemes for unstable bifurcation points can provide some new methods for relieving the traffic congestion. In this paper, we study the bifurcation characteristics and nonlinear control of traffic flow based on the continuum model considering the new energy vehicles effect. First, a macroscopic traffic flow model considering the number of new energy vehicles and their range is proposed. Then, we transform it into a traffic flow stability model suitable for branching analysis using the traveling wave transformation. Therefore, we can transform the traffic flow problem into the stability analysis problem of systems and reflect unstable traffic characteristics such as congestion. Based on the stability model, the existence conditions of the Hopf bifurcation are proved and some bifurcation points of the traffic system are found. Second, we study the congestion and stability abrupt change behaviors near the equilibrium point and branching point to seek for the formation mechanism of traffic congestion. Finally, for the unstable bifurcation point, the control scheme is designed by Chebyshev polynomial approximation, stochastic feedback control, and other methods to delay or disappear the unstable bifurcation point and alleviate traffic congestion. In metropolitan areas, traffic jams on city streets are a major source of annoyance and financial losses. Recent advancements in data processing algorithms and the widespread availability of traffic detectors have made it possible to implement data-driven strategies for reducing traffic congestion. In order to benefit from intersection cooperation in this setting, this paper presents a distributed control strategy based on RL. In this scenario, traffic prediction software's embedding that takes into account the state of nearby junctions is used to synthesize an RL controller that controls the traffic lights. Loop detector characteristics are insufficient for precise data imputed in sophisticated traffic control systems. Most current imputation methods only use these extracted characteristics, which leads to the creation of data replicas that lack the necessary precision. The clean data are first given a statistical multi-class label, with classes ranging from C1 to Cn. Then, using a deep recurrent neural network (RNN) model, the best data model is created from the labelled spotless data and applied to the class of models in the missed-volume data. Results from simulations using TRANSYT demonstrate that the suggested strategy outperforms conventional methods in terms of waiting times and other important presentation indices. The article describes the problem of excessive traffic concentration at signalized pedestrian crossings. The main drawback of such crossings is the inappropriate duration of green signals for vehicles. Too long green times for vehicular traffic significantly increase time lost by pedestrians, while too short ones cause short-term congestion, resulting in long queues of vehicles and a deteriorated level of service. The negative effects of both of these situations also include dangerous behavior of road users, such as red light running or crossing. Recent (June 2021) changes in the road traffic law in Poland have privileged unprotected road users at pedestrian crossings. New models and technical and design standards proposed in this country (March 2021) recommend the installation of pedestrian priority crossings at particularly dangerous spots and in urban areas with a high proportion of pedestrian traffic. All this is done mainly for traffic-calming purposes. However, previously these measures were not a common practice in Poland. Therefore, the objective of this article was to develop a simple method of green signal timing, ensuring, firstly, priority to pedestrian traffic at such places, and, secondly, sustained capacity of vehicular traffic lanes. The developed models are practical, universal and easy to adapt in other countries. They ensure a very good or good quality of vehicle traffic service, with average lost time not exceeding 25 s in a vast majority of analyzed traffic level cases. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) have emerged as an efficient solution for enhancing road utilization efficiency, ensuring convenient and safe transportation, and reducing energy consumption. This research addresses the challenging problem of accurately estimating road traffic congestion from videos recorded in low visibility and adverse weather conditions such as rainy, overcast, and sunny weather. To solve this problem, we propose a method based on the use a custom Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN) that we have designed and trained to classify nighttime road traffic videos into three distinct categories. To train and test this DCNN, we used nighttime videos from the UCSD (University of California San Diego) public dataset. For comparison, we have also tested a second method, which uses an existing CNN that we have trained on the same dataset to classify road traffic into the same three categories. The performances of the two methods were assessed and compared using the UCSD nighttime dataset. The first method achieves an impressive Correct Classification Rate (CCR) of 98.91%, which is higher than the 96.18% CCR achieved by the second method. These rates surpass the 89.47% state-of-the-art CCR obtained with this dataset. This exceptional precision in estimating road traffic congestion in challenging low visibility conditions is achieved thanks to the integration of advanced deep learning techniques and CNNs. Cities face a significant challenge due to increasing traffic congestion and the rising number of vehicles. Developed countries have introduced smart traffic management systems as a solution to mitigate congestion and improve traffic flow. These systems employ various techniques such as image processing, radar sensing, ultrasonic and microwave detectors, and other sensors. However, each of these methods has its drawbacks, including susceptibility to weather conditions, high costs, and low accuracy. Intelligent traffic control methods like inductive loop detection, wireless sensor networks, and video data analysis have proven to be efficient. However, they suffer from lengthy installation processes and high installation and maintenance expenses. In response to this issue, this article proposes a system that can detect lane density and adjust traffic signal timers accordingly to optimize traffic flow. The proposed system utilizes IR sensors and load sensors to calculate the density of each lane at an intersection, and an RFID system is implemented to accommodate emergency response vehicles. This system is centered around an ATmega 2560 chip. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, real-time experiments were conducted on a scaled-down model of the system. Traffic congestion not only has a great impact on people's travel, but also increases energy consumption and air pollution. The control analysis of the macroscopic traffic flow model considering the vehicle braking effect is particularly important, reflecting the impact on the actual traffic flow density wave, so as to better solve the actual traffic problems. In this paper, based on a speed difference optimization speed model, the micro–macro-variables are transformed into a high-order continuous traffic flow model. Then, a random function considering the physical correlation of random components is added to the high-order continuous traffic flow model to establish a random traffic flow model that can reflect the uncertain behavior of traffic flow acceleration or deceleration. Based on this stochastic traffic model, the existence of Hopf bifurcation and bifurcation control of the traffic flow system model considering stochastic characteristics are derived by using Hopf bifurcation theorem. By Chebyshev polynomial approximation method, the stochastic problem of the system is transformed into the bifurcation control problem of its equivalent deterministic system. A feedback controller is designed to delay the occurrence of Hopf bifurcation and control the amplitude of the limit cycle. Without changing the equilibrium point of the system, the complete elimination of Hopf bifurcation can be achieved by controlling the amplitude of the limit cycle. That is, the feedback controller is used to modify the bifurcation characteristics of the system, such as the bifurcation appearing at the equilibrium point in the control system moves forward, moves backward or disappears, so as to achieve the effect of preventing or alleviating traffic congestion. In the process of collecting traffic information, traditional traffic flow control methods have some problems, such as high loss rate of sensing and detection information and long average queue length, which lead to the unsatisfactory effect of traffic control and evacuation in main roads. Therefore, based on multi-sensor information fusion technology, this study designs a new intelligent control method of traffic flow on main road. According to the multi-sensor information, the fusion algorithm and measurement equation are designed to obtain the main road traffic sensor position, vehicle linear velocity and other parameters, and update the fusion results in real time. Then, the short-term characteristics of traffic flow are used to control the appearance time of target section. Based on the ordinary differential equation, the main road traffic network is represented by intelligent directed graph, and the intelligent dredging model of urban main road traffic flow is constructed. The simulation results show that in five experimental roads, the average delay time of this method is less than 35 s, the maximum average number of stops is only 8.8, the average queue length is less than 30 m, the average travel speed is more than 25 km/h, the traffic flow per unit time is more than 250veh/10 min, and the traffic congestion index of main road is always more than 5.5. One of the world's challenges is the amount of traffic on the roads. Waiting for the green light is a major cause of traffic congestion. Low throughput rates and eventual congestion come from many traffic signals that are hard coded, irrespective of the volume of the amount of traffic. Instead of depending on predefined time intervals, it is essential to build a traffic signal control system that can react to changing vehicle densities. Emergency vehicles, like ambulances, must be given priority at the intersection so as not to spend more time at the traffic light. Computer vision techniques can be used to improve road traffic signal control and reduce real-time traffic delays at intersections without the requirement for substantial infrastructure analysis. Long wait times and significant energy consumption are just two of the problems of the current traffic signal control system. To optimal efficiency, the traffic signal's duration must be dynamically changed to account for current traffic volume. To lessen congestion, the approach taken in this research focuses on modifying traffic signal time determined by the density of vehicles at the crossroads. The main purpose of this article is to demonstrate heavy traffic and emergency vehicle prioritization from all directions at the traffic intersection for a speedy passage. Using the Pygame tool, the proposed method in this study, which includes a mechanism for estimating traffic density and prioritization by counting vehicles at a traffic junction, is demonstrated. The vehicle throughput for the adaptive traffic light built using Pygame is compared with the vehicle pass rate for the adaptive traffic light built using Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO). The simulation results show that the adaptive traffic light built using Pygame achieves 90% throughput compared to the adaptive traffic light built using SUMO. Traffic operation efficiency is greatly impacted by the increase in travel demand and the increase in vehicle ownership. The continued increase in traffic demand has rendered the importance of controlling traffic, especially at intersections. In general, the inefficiency of traffic scheduling leads to traffic congestion, resulting in a rise in fuel consumption, exhaust emissions, and poor quality of service. Various methods for time series forecasting have been proposed for adaptive and remote traffic control. The prediction of traffic has attracted profound attention for improving the reliability and efficiency of traffic flow scheduling while reducing congestion. Therefore, in this work, we studied the problem of the current traffic situation at Muhima Junction one of the busiest junctions in Kigali city. Future traffic rates were forecasted by employing long short-term memory (LSTM) and autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models, respectively. Both the models' performance criteria for adequacy were the mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and root mean squared error (RMSE). The results revealed that LSTM is the best-fitting model for monthly traffic flow prediction. Within this analysis, we proposed an adaptive traffic flow prediction that builds on the features of vehicle-to-infrastructure communication and the Internet of Things (IoT) to control traffic while enhancing the quality of service at the junctions. The congestion caused by ramp overflow has an essential impact on the energy consumption of autonomous vehicles. It is urgent to solve the energy waste of ramp overflow on connected and autonomous vehicles and improve the energy utilization rate. Aiming at the traffic congestion caused by ramp overflow, this paper obtains the data of autonomous vehicles and traffic flow based on vehicle road cooperative perception, analyzes the impact mechanism of vehicle energy consumption, and summarizes the energy consumption modes of autonomous vehicles into three categories. Second, an energy consumption evaluation framework is proposed based on the CSANS strategy. This strategy can make up for the deficiency of constructing neighborhoods within European distance, find important influencing variables on connected and autonomous vehicles' energy consumption, and accurately capture the manifold characteristics of energy consumption data. Finally, flow control is carried out from the macro perspective of traffic engineering to optimize ramp overflow's impact on autonomous vehicles' energy consumption. Radius of road curvature and the information of preceding vehicles have a significant influence on traffic flow in the vehicle-infrastructure cooperation environment. However, the existing car-following model is subjective in considering the type of preceding vehicles' information, and does not comprehensively consider the synergistic effect of road curvature radius and preceding vehicles' information. Therefore, in this study, an intelligent driver model for curved roads considering multi-preceding vehicles' information is established in the vehicle-infrastructure cooperation environment. Then, using the Lyapunov method to analyze the stability of the extended model, the linear stability condition is obtained, and the influence law of radius of road curvature and weight coefficient of the preceding vehicle on traffic flow is mastered. Finally, the theoretical analysis of the model is verified by numerical simulation experiments. The simulation results are consistent with the theoretical analysis, and both show that the stability of traffic flow increases with the increase of radius of road curvature and weight coefficient of the preceding vehicle. This shows that the extended model can not only accurately describe the car-following behavior of vehicles on a curved road in the vehicleinfrastructure cooperation environment but also stabilize the traffic flow and suppress traffic jams. As a result of the rapid growth of the world population, traffic signaling systems for monitoring and controlling the roads have turned to be an important issue facing humanity. To effectively overcome this problem, an accurate method for congestion reduction on the roads should be used which has a direct relation between the population and the cars’ usage. Various approaches derived from deep and transfer learning have been investigated in this context. This research implemented an optimized transfer learning approach for densely connected convolutional neural network (DenseNet201) models for multiple classifications (non-emergency cars, ambulance, police, and firefighter). Due to the non-availability of public datasets, a customized dataset has been created. This paper aims to improve the performance accuracy of vehicle classification using certain preprocessing algorithms on the input images and testing various optimization methods. The performance accuracy of the proposed model is evaluated using k-folds cross-validation 20:80 for the test and training, respectively. The metrics which are used for comparison with other deep learning techniques are based on exactness, recall, accuracy and F1-score. Lane-changing prewarning is an active management measure used to mitigate the impact of incidents on expressways. This measure affects the operational efficiency and safety of traffic flow upstream of the incident location. To evaluate the effectiveness of this measure in mitigating incident-induced congestion and enhancing traffic safety, it is essential to model and simulate traffic flow on expressways, followed by analyzing the simulation results. In this study, we use the lane-changing selection cell transmission model (ls-CTM) to investigate the impact of setting lane-changing prewarning information on expressway traffic flow. By enhancing the composition of flow within the diverging cell in CTM, traffic can determine its downstream direction based on lane-changing probability rather than the path. A case study was conducted to investigate the impact of prewarning distances of 50, 100, and 150 m on road operational efficiency and traffic safety under different traffic volumes. The timely and accurate forecasting of urban road traffic is crucial for smart city traffic management and control. It can assist both drivers and traffic controllers in selecting efficient routes and diverting traffic to less congested roads. However, estimating traffic volume while taking into account external factors such as weather and accidents is still a challenge. In this research, we propose a hybrid deep learning framework, double attention graph neural network BiLSTM (DAGNBL), that utilizes a graph neural network to represent spatial characteristics and bidirectional LSTM units to capture temporal dependencies between features. Attention modules are added to the GNN and BLSTM to find high-impact attention weight values for the chosen road section. Our model offers the best prediction accuracy with a mean absolute percentage error of 5.21% and a root mean squared error of 4. Traffic congestion is a major concern in urban centers, as it can affect society, the environment, and the economy. There are many studies on the use of computational intelligence (CI) to improve mobility in urban centers. Some of these researches focus on developing strategies for traffic light programming, since traffic coordination is complex due to its many parameters, variables, and dynamic behavior, and also an inefficient traffic control plan can lead to increased delays and contribute to traffic congestion. Although there are many works in the literature on strategies for traffic control, there are still some contributions and gaps to be filled, especially because some studies do not consider the automatic optimization of traffic signals in real time, that is, according to the demand of vehicles on the roads, considering multiple objectives and the use of a network of intersections in their experiments. In addition, some of the proposed models are not independent of simulation to evaluate the solutions of CI algorithms, resulting in a more complex deployment in real situations. In this context, this paper presents a new method to optimize traffic light plan in a network of intersections and in real time, called Active Control of Traffic Signals (ACTS) associated with the Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm, considering multiple objectives in the optimization process (minimizing the average delay time and the number of vehicles stops per cycle). To test the applicability of the model, a real dataset of vehicle demand collected by the Company of Transport and Traffic of Belo Horizonte (BHTrans) is loaded into the AIMSUN simulator, then the method is applied and compared with the current traffic control plan used by BHTrans. The results show that the ACTS method reduces the average vehicle delay by almost half compared to the results obtained with the current solution used by BHTrans. Smart cities can effectively improve urban life quality. But, with the rise in population size, there is an increase in the use of vehicles for transportation. In smart city development, traffic control and route planning are the primary tasks to address the problem of travel time estimation. It has become complex due to concerns of wrapped spatio-temporal data on dynamic real-time traffic conditions. The existing methods failed to estimate travel time efficiently due to not considering the spatio-temporal features and lack of computing resources. There is a need for a system like intelligent transportation system to monitor and accurately predict traffic flow to avoid traffic congestion and reduce the impact on the ecological system. This paper developed a novel hybrid deep learning model to estimate optimized travel time and possible trajectories. In this work, U-Net used to reduce the number of feature points for each temporal data and GNN is used to build the graph with connectivity between vehicular nodes. This hybrid model helps us predict traffic flow and aims to estimate accurate travel time from one location (node) to another. The model's performance is evaluated on the standard benchmark datasets Q-Traffic, TaxiBJ, and Chengdu. The experimental results show that the proposed framework significantly improves performance in extracting travel patterns and provides an optimal route with an estimated travel time than existing methods with RMSE 4%, MAE 20.49%, and MAPE 18%. As urban areas continue to expand, traffic congestion has emerged as a significant challenge impacting urban governance and economic development. Frequent regional traffic congestion has become a primary factor hindering urban economic growth and social activities, necessitating improved regional traffic management. Addressing regional traffic optimization and control methods based on the characteristics of regional congestion has become a crucial and complex issue in the field of traffic management and control research. This paper focuses on the macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) and aims to tackle the control problem without relying on traffic determination information. To address this, we introduce the Q-learning (QL) algorithm in reinforcement learning and the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) algorithm in deep reinforcement learning. Subsequently, we propose the MFD-QL perimeter control model and the MFD-DDPG perimeter control model. We conduct numerical analysis and simulation experiments to verify the effectiveness of the MFD-QL and MFD-DDPG algorithms. The rapid development of urbanization in China has contributed to traffic events, such as traffic accidents and delays. It is difficult to detect and resolve highway traffic congestion in a timely manner using traditional methods because they are slow, require a large number of workers, and require the installation of a large amount of monitoring equipment. Therefore, it is imperative to introduce advanced technology to address these challenges. Recently, deep learning technology has made significant breakthroughs and has been widely applied to various fields with satisfactory results. Deep learning is among the most important technologies for the detection and evaluation of traffic congestion, enabling the accurate detection of the state of the expressway network's traffic congestion, the evaluation of traffic congestion, and the prediction of possible traffic congestion. This enables management to formulate traffic dredging strategies in advance to prevent the negative impact of traffic congestion on normal traffic flow. This paper proposes a framework based on deep learning for next-generation highway traffic management. This framework selects traffic congestion indicators to construct an index model, and then constructs a deep learning model based on self-coding. It predicts and classifies highway traffic environment data and excavates sample data based on the characteristics of traffic parameters. As soon as traffic data were classified, a prediction model based on SoftMax was established to detect and predict highway traffic congestion. We conducted a traffic congestion analysis of the Shanghai expressway network based on the speed performance data obtained from the China Traffic Management Bureau. As a result of their research, we developed an index to measure highway traffic congestion. For traffic control and management organizations to function effectively, it is crucial to have an accurate and clear picture of traffic network operations. We evaluated the proposed framework using data gathered from highway monitoring scenes, and the results indicated that 98.6% of the data could be correctly detected. Using the prediction model based on SoftMax for expressway vehicles during peak hours, the accuracy was 92%, and the misjudgment rate was 8%. This study demonstrates that detecting and evaluating the state of highway traffic environments using deep learning has high accuracy, can be applied to actual highway traffic systems, and is extremely useful for detecting highway congestion. Multiplex networks have proven to be valuable tools for modeling and analyzing real complex system. Extensive work has been done on the traffic dynamics on multiplex networks, but there remains a lack of sufficient attention towards studying routing strategies for the purpose of suppressing epidemic spreading. In this paper, the impact of global awareness routing (GAR), improved global awareness routing (IGAR), and improved active routing (IAR) strategies on traffic-driven epidemic spreading are investigated. Our findings indicate that in the case of infinite node-delivery capacity and no traffic congestion in the network, adjusting routing parameters can effectively suppress epidemic spreading. In this context, these three strategies show better abilities on the multiplex network built by WS or ER model to minimize the density of infected nodes, thus contributing to the overall inhibition of the epidemic spread. However, in the multiplex network constructed by BA model, GAR strategy has a promoting effect on epidemic spreading compared with the shortest routing strategy. In addition, by controlling traffic flow, limiting node delivery capabilities can contain outbreaks. Our results suggest that adopting appropriate routing strategies in multiplex networks can play a proactive role in controlling epidemic spreading. Climate change has a detrimental impact on permafrost soil in cold regions, resulting in the thawing of permafrost and causing instability and security issues in infrastructure, as well as settlement problems in pavement engineering. To address these challenges, concrete pipe pile foundations have emerged as a viable solution for reinforcing the subgrade and mitigating settlement in isolated permafrost areas. However, the effectiveness of these foundations depends greatly on the mechanical properties of the interface between the permafrost soil and the pipe, which are strongly influenced by varying thawing conditions. While previous studies have primarily focused on the interface under frozen conditions, this paper specifically investigates the interface under thawing conditions. In this study, direct shear tests were conducted to examine the damage characteristics and shear mechanical properties of the soil-pile interface with a water content of 26% at temperatures of −3 °C, −2 °C, −1 °C, −0.5 °C, and 8 °C. The influence of different degrees of melting on the stress–strain characteristics of the soil-pile interface was also analyzed. The findings reveal that as the temperature increases, the shear strength of the interface decreases. The shear stress-displacement curve of the soil-pile interface in the thawing state exhibits a strain-softening trend and can be divided into three stages: the pre-peak shear stress growth stage, the post-peak shear stress steep drop stage, and the post-peak shear stress reconstruction stage. In contrast, the stress curve in the thawed state demonstrates a strain-hardening trend. The study further highlights that violent phase changes in the ice crystal structure have a significant impact on the peak freezing strength and residual freezing strength at the soil-pile interface, with these strengths decreasing as the temperature rises. Additionally, the cohesion and internal friction angle at the soil-pile interface decrease with increasing temperature. It can be concluded that the mechanical strength of the soil-pile interface, crucial for subgrade reinforcement in permafrost areas within transportation engineering, is greatly influenced by temperature-induced changes in the ice crystal structure. Evaluating the economic impact of airports is crucial for understanding the benefits they bring to a region. However, when an area has more than one airport, it becomes essential to analyze each airport's contribution to the local economy to make informed investment and policy decisions. Thus, studying economic models that can distinguish each airport's impact on the region's economy becomes essential. In this context, this paper aims to compare three different approaches to determine the economic contributions of airports in a given region and identify their social and economic benefits. The International Civil Aviation Organization recommends using input–output analysis in this context. The study considered three weight factors for the input–output basic model: circular buffer, displacement time, and Huff's gravitational model. The analysis was performed using the three largest airports in São Paulo state, Brazil, due to their proximity and influence on the surrounding areas. The models were compared based on their efficiency and accuracy in reflecting the reality of the case study context. The study identified the most suitable model for establishing correlations between investments made in airport infrastructure and the generation of gross domestic product, employment, and added value. This study fills a gap in the existing literature by proposing improvements to the methods for evaluating airports' economic and social benefits. In recent times, airport investors, both in the government and private sectors, have become increasingly demanding in their need for accurate analyses before making investments. Therefore, the results of this paper will provide valuable insights into the benefits of investing in airport infrastructure and help policymakers and investors make informed decisions. Electric automated vehicles (AVs) are expected to become part of the transportation system within the coming years. The implications of their implementation are still uncertain. What is known is that human behaviour will be central to determining AV adoption. This research aims to gain insight into how potential users of privately owned (PAVs) and shared (SAV) electric automated vehicles are characterised across three different continents assessing the influence of cultural and geographic features, personal attitudes and characteristics and the perceived advantages and disadvantages of AVs. Using survey data collected among residents (N = 1440) in Greater Sydney, Australia; Greater Montréal, Canada; and the Randstad, the Netherlands, this paper explores individuals' willingness to adopt PAVs and SAVs using statistical descriptive analysis and logistic regression models. The study supports the impact of personal characteristics (e.g., age and travel characteristics) and attitudes towards personal and societal gains on the willingness to adopt AVs. Furthermore, this paper provides cross-continental evidence for the regional socio-urban context, affecting the desire to adopt AVs in different forms. Policy-makers should consider these factors and tailor different strategies according to cultural norms in order to motivate a coherent and sustainable implementation of AVs into existing and future mobility landscapes. The aim of this manuscript is to detect recent trends in air transport research through a bibliometric analysis. We retrieved all articles published between 2013 and 2022 in the Q1 of the Transportation ranking of the Social Sciences Citation Index published in the Journal Citations Reports (Q1-T), and in the Journal of Air Transport Management. Among these records, we retained for the analysis the articles related to air transport. Analyzing the author keywords of articles and retaining the Top 10 cited articles in each of the samples, we identified six research topics for each of the samples. Both samples share the topics of Industry Analysis, Air Traffic Management and COVID-19 and Air Transport. The specific topics of Q1-T sample are High Speed Rail and Air Transport, Environmental Impact of Air Transport and UAV and Urban Air Mobility. We also found that materials of Q1-T are mainly written from the regulator perspective, and JATM materials from the perspective of airport and airline managers. We believe that these results are useful for administrators evaluating air transport academics, and air transport academics themselves looking for new avenues of research and stakeholders of the air transport industry interested in evidence-based decision making.
