Jayanta Mahapatra's literary corpus is versatile and reflective to the windows of the world. His Door of Paper: Essays and Memoirs (2007) is the finest flowering ever written by an Indian English poet compared to the theory of poetry of Wordsworth, Shelley and T. S. Eliot. He is the only Indian English poet who wrote the issues related to poetry about how to write poetry, the freedom of poetry, the silence of poetry and the timeframe of poetry and the significance of poetry. His pioneering book Door of Paper: Essays and Memoirs (2007) encompasses his autobiographical strain as well his ideas of poetry as felt during his composition of poetry. What Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Arnold and T. S. Eliot highlighted in their theory of poetry is also reflected in his ideas of poetry. So, this article attempts to highlight how Mahapatra's book Door Of Paper signifies his ideas about the freedom of poetry, process of poetic composition, the silence of poetry, the timeframe of poetry and the significance of poetry as compared to Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Arnold and T. Personal papers such as diaries or memoirs are established sources for historical, cultural and literary research. Special archival collections have been built up over the past decades. Depending on the focus of the content, these collections are composed very differently. With an intersectional approach, some of these differences are presented in this article: Are women and men documented differently in collections of personal papers from artists, scientists or politicians? How is the gender comparison in collections with an everyday history approach? Are women and men possibly represented here with different auto/biographical formats? And what about members of different social classes? Are there also diaries of workers or servants in the archives? The systematic comparison exposes structural inequalities in archival collections and thus shows the direct effects of documentation policies that have a lasting influence on which sources are ultimately available to research – and which are not. Political conflict has plagued Kashmir, a Muslim-majority region of Hindu-majority India, ever since the partition. The crisis worsened by the end of the 1980s and has continued to disrupt peace in the valley to date. The conflict arguably entered a new phase as the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was elected to power in 2014, which also joined the ruling coalition of the Jammu and Kashmir state in 2015 for the first time. Over this period, Kashmir's resistance evolved into subtler forms, including cultural expressions like memoirs. Published in 2021, Farah Bashir's debut work, Rumours of Spring, is a deeply personal yet undeniably political exploration of the crisis in Kashmir from its aggravated phase in the beginning of the 1990s. This paper argues that the nuanced depiction of the crisis in the memoir demands an intersectional reading of the traumatising impact of militarisation and militarism on Kashmir's everyday life, especially given the subject position of the narrator as a Muslim woman. The works on militarisation by Jacklyn Cock, as employed by Samreen Mushtaq to analyse the situation in Kashmir, provide theoretical insights for this reading. Set in Kashmir's identitarian conflict, the Muslim identity is central to the narrative. We argue that in Bashir's memoir, religion finds a complex representation, with the Qur'an and Kashmiri folklore serving as respites in times of crisis, even as the fundamentalist factions contribute to their oppressive reality. Bashir's work openly engages with the experience of being a Muslim in Hindu India. The paper also attempts to place the work in a larger corpus of life-writing by women in conflict zones, comparing the work with Sharon and My Mother-in-Law: Ramallah Diaries (2003), a Palestinian memoir by Suad Amiry. The democratic-reconstruction measures that were employed in Afghanistan following the USled invasion in late 2001 were riddled with problems, one of which related to the composition of the new government. The inclusion of warlords in the nation-building process, although it made strategic sense for the fledgling government, resulted in the reproduction of cycles of violence and was particularly detrimental to the interests of women, whose supposed liberation was at the centre of the War on Terror discourse. This paper examines this phenomenon through the eyes of Malalai Joya, who, in her memoir A Woman Among Warlords provides an insightful account of the radical, misogynist warlords who occupied positions of power in the newly formed government. As a young female politician in a historically male domain, Joya is a rare voice of resistance against her government and the American military. In raising her voice against the power holders, Joya subverts the dominant narrative of the war, especially pertaining to the liberation of Afghan women. She argues that by colluding with the warlords, the US and the Karzai administration were complicit in allowing violence to continue in political and social spheres. This paper argues that the US-led invasion largely failed to make any concrete ideological transformation and instead aided the reestablishment of oppressive power structures, especially in Afghanistan's provinces. In this study, the author analyzes the content of two old constitutional reform drafts elaborated in the context of public debates on the topic of elaborating a new Basic Law after the completion of the state unity of the Romanian Kingdom. The first of the drafts was elaborated - as a theoretical work - in 1919 by professor Iuliu Pascu from the University of Cernăuți, and the second, by the politician Constantin Argetoianu. The first draft has remained practically unknown to the constitutional doctrine. The second one was written by its author in the form of a report and presented on 20 December 1922 during the People's Party congress, held in Sibiu between 20-21 December 1922. Subsequently, Constantin Argetoianu published it in a booklet in 1922, practically not included either in the memory of the specialized doctrine. The report presented by Constantin Argetoianu at the congress in Sibiu is, however, included in the memoirs of the venerable politician and can be consulted in his memoir paper published after 1990 in several editions. The two drafts are atypical, in the sense that they were not edited in an ordinary legislative form, but as doctrinal papers, in which the authors presented and supported with arguments their opinions regarding some principles and provisions of constitutional rank, which they considered at that time appropriate legislative solutions for a wide-spread constitutional reform of the Romanian State. The paper deals with the sudden experience of an unfamiliar feeling due to the blurring of the boundaries between the private and the public space, resulting in what Bhabha calls 'unhomely.' It has been further argued that this sudden emergence of unfamiliar experiences acts as a traumatic event, represented through graphic narration in Malik Sajad's Munnu: A Boy from Kashmir. The sense of 'unhomeliness' caused due to various factors like constant surveillance is responsible for the traumatic feeling in Munnu. The paper also explores the idea of the panopticon, which engenders the blurring of the boundaries between the home and the world. The blurred boundaries make our private space strange and unfamiliar, which is supposed to be an intimate place without any invasion by the external world. Therefore, the present study explores the notion of 'unhomely' and the trauma caused by it, as represented in the graphic narration of the events through dreams and nightmares. As embodied agents of interlocuters in communicative encounters, professional interpreters use the narrated 'I' to tell the stories of others, while the narrating 'I', that is the interpreter's personal self, is often kept invisible for the sake of performing the professional role. This paper focuses on three contemporary interpreters' memoirs that recount their life and work experiences in different locations and settings. The paper explores how interpreter-memoirists challenge the expectation for interpreter's non-affectivity by exercising their affective labour and adjusting their empathetic positioning in their work as interpreters. With a focus on empathy as affective labour, I investigate how these interpreter-memoirists perform their professional roles by handling emotionally charged scenarios in different ways. I argue that interpreters can function as agents of empathy who are capable of modulating speaker-intended emotions and coping with the impact of empathy as part of their felt and regulated emotions. The fact that the empathy is negotiated and mediated by interpreters challenges normative views on the interpreter's objectivity and neutrality. This study offers new possibilities for reinstating interpreters' agency in handling empathy and acknowledging the positive outcome of interpreters' affective work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The focus of this paper is the mutual representation of the process of artistic writing in the memoirs of Bohumila Grögerová Můj labyrint [My Labyrinth] and in the novel Točité věty [Winding Sentences] by Daniela Hodrová, which came into existence concurrently with the two authors in close contact. Other pieces by these authors, though of different genres, may be read as an artistic dialogue as well: a dialogue with mythologies, historical figures and cultural traditions, the values and knowledge that these authors share and represent, sometimes in a similar way and sometimes in a different one, while employing narrative strategies typical both of modernist and postmodernist poetics, balancing between dream and reality, fictionality, fictionalization and authenticity. A selection of topics (language, speech, writing; individual and collective; textual subjects; myth and novel; memory and oblivion) are analyzed, and a comparison of modes of representation and their functions in the texts as related to the world of ideas of both authors is undertaken. This article explores the playful and humorous side of Henry Morris, a renowned printer known for his Bird & Bull Press. While Morris was primarily focused on papermaking history, he also enjoyed incorporating whimsical pranks and jokes into his work. One of his main outlets for this was the creation of San Serriffean works, which began in 1937 and involved parodies and spoofs related to printing and numismatic culture. Morris published various books and ephemeral pieces under the pseudonym Dr. Bachaus, incorporating elements of San Serriffe into his work. These playful publications covered topics such as toilet paper, marbled papers, private presses, and even a fictional republic called San Serriffe. Henri Deslandres initiated imaging spectroscopy of the solar atmosphere in 1892 at Paris Observatory. He developed two kinds of spectrographs: the 'spectrohéliographe des formes', i.e. the monochromatic instrument to reveal chromospheric structures (such as filaments, prominences, plages and active regions); and the 'spectrohéliographe des vitesses', i.e. the spectroheliograph to record line profiles of cross-sections of the Sun, in order to measure the Doppler shifts of dynamic features. Deslandres moved to Meudon and hired Lucien d'Azambuja in 1899; together they built the large quadruple spectroheliograph. CaII K systematic observations of the full Sun started in 1908 and were followed in 1909 by Hα with two dedicated 3-metre spectroheliographs. Daily observations were organized by d'Azambuja who also intensively used the large 7-metre spectroheliograph for his research and thesis (1930). This paper summarizes fifty years of investigations by Mr and Mrs d'Azambuja, who explored various photospheric and chromospheric lines, obtaining special spectroheliograms with the high dispersion 7-metre instrument. They also intensively observed filaments and prominences, reported results in an extensive memoir (1948) and recorded rare solar activity events with the two 3-metre spectroheliographs, until their retirement in 1959. This paper is a memoir of/for Daryl. A memoir is an historical account or biography written from personal knowledge. It provides my personal account of Daryl, the man, the physical educator, the intellectual, the teacher, and the scholar. In this account I trace Daryl's work from when I first met him in 1981 and the major conceptual ideas that drove his research and scholarship. I discuss his commitment to behaviour analysis, his integrity and his politics. I try to convey the ways in which he thought about research and the world more generally. I also give an insight into Daryl the advisor and, in particular, what he meant for his international PhD students and how, through them, his influence spread across many countries of the world. This paper examines the discursive ways in which Ehrenburg and his works interacted with China's socialist movements from 1929 to 1976. Ehrenburg's complex and ambiguous position between East and West and between socialism and liberalism had made him a source of intensive ideological and literary contention in both the Soviet Union and China. This paper analyzes four phases of Ehrenburg's relationship with China: Lu Xun's criticisms of Ehrenburg's alienation from the revolution, Ehrenburg's close partnership with China in the anti-American World Peace Movement, his politics of "thaw" in the Sino-Soviet Split, and the official and underground curation and consumption of his memoir in the "internal publishing materials". Throughout the decades, Ehrenburg's unique status as a writer that existed "internal" to the socialist system but also maintained extensive "external" connections to the West created complex and unintended ideological consequences in China. While Ehrenburg had elaborated his ideal socialist dream to be a socialist society compatible with artistic freedom and cosmopolitanism, this vision at times was both embraced and rebutted in China. Auslander and Bridger [ Stable module theory , Memoirs of the American Mathematical Society, No. 94, American Mathematical Society, Providence, R.I., 1969] introduced the notions of n-spherical modules and n-torsionfree modules. In this paper, we construct an equivalence between the stable category of n-spherical modules and the category of modules of grade at least n, and provide its Gorenstein analogue. As an application, we prove that if R is a Gorenstein local ring of Krull dimension d>0, then there exists a stable equivalence between the category of (d-1)-torsionfree R-modules and the category of d-spherical modules relative to the local cohomology functor. The present paper focuses on how memory plays an important role in reconstructing the narrative of partition that emerges from personal histories of individual experiences and family units. As the generations are passing away, the people who experienced partition first-hand are on the verge of disappearance. What remains is second-hand information from the younger generations who are the storehouses of the experiences, stories and tales narrated to them by their parents and grandparents. Largely, a sense of amnesia, forgetting and erasure challenges the articulation of these experiences. As a third-person narrator, belonging to one such family, the researcher has made an attempt to document her family history. The paper lays focus on revival and re-membering the family eidos that reveals the veil of forgotten or hidden histories. One of the motives is also to recapture the momentous moments that defined the life of the people who left their homes and moved to other parts of the country. Remembering has been considered as a methodological tool to understand partition from the common people's perspective and create alternate history that examines the official accounts and their authenticity regarding partition. The fragmented memories have enabled writers to engage with literary forms that narrativises partition through short stories, novels and others forms of writing. The paper also discusses the challenges and limitations of fragmented memories and the complications involved in the creative process while engaging with real life experiences and fiction. Graphic memoirs have gained a critical attention only after Spiegalman's foundational work Maus. The merge of images and text produces unique literary experience for the readers. The paper is an attempt to explore the gripping graphic memoirs of Sarah Glidden and Guy Delisle and the emergence of dialogical self and multiple 'I' positions within the text. Dialogical Self theory is a research module that showcases the self-expanding its definition. Unlike the Cartesian approach to self that believes its sharp distinction with other. Dialogical Self theory proposes the idea of a heterogeneous and dense self where the self involves in a dialogue with itself. This gives space for multiplicity of voices/narrations within the self and thus bridges the gap between self and other. How to understand Israel in 60 days or less and Jerusalem: chronicles from the holy city are works centered on the pertaining Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The creative format of a comic allows the respective authors to illustrate the different selves in a single panel. It fosters the concept of other as an extended self on the subjective level. In January 2020, Vanessa Springora published Consent, an unusual memoir that discloses the elaborated version of a personal story. Springora was 14 years old when she met the 50-year-old Gabriel Matzneff, a well-known French writer. Thirty years later, she decided to take back the agency that she claims was taken from her, with the artilleries of literature. While closely following Springora's narrative, the paper focuses on the emergence of a new "memoir genre", which besides presenting a platform for personal redemption, instigated an important shift within the French public opinion regarding the nature of consent, and ignited significant legal reform in this regard. As will be elaborated, Consent and other works in similar spirit appositely demonstrate the power of law to stimulate certain narrative patterns, and the power of stories to influence cultural atmosphere which leads to legal changes. In this paper, I will draw on two twentieth-century French writers and extract from their works their ideas about memory and memoir writing. The first, the poet and philosopher Charles Péguy wrote a great deal about memory, bringing the philosophy of Henri Bergson into realms of daily life that the philosopher himself did not. Not all of Péguy's meditations on memory are related to memoir writings, and yet they provide a possible frame for anyone who would want to engage in such a task. I will focus on some of his points about time and aging, give some examples from his projected confessions, and relate them to the writing of memoirs as he saw it. The second author, Romain Gary was a prolific novelist, whose works were among the greatest best sellers in post-War France. I will focus on his literary memoir, Promise at Dawn. Gary does not write directly about memoir writing. His ideas on it are embedded in his autobiographical narration, however, and it is these ideas that I shall extract and illustrate. Much separates these two authors' views on memory and memoirs. Despite their differences, I would like to argue that both authors focus on the ethics of memory and memory writing. That ethics revolves not so much on telling the literal truth, the getting this or that detail correctly, but in capturing and conveying the commitments that have marked one's life, and capturing them in such a way that they do not coincide with the current pieties about the past. In this personal memoir of my lifelong collaborator and friend, Herb Gintis, I reflect on his "A Radical Analysis of Welfare Economics and Individual Development." Published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics in 1972, the article advances a novel Marx-inspired interpretation of the societal origins of preferences, one that profoundly influenced the ideas of a group of like-minded young economists at Harvard at the time, economics more broadly, and Herb and my subsequent joint work. Nick Hornby's memoir, Fever Pitch (1992) is pivotal in deepening our understanding of the experience of the western male football (soccer) fan and has received proportionate academic scrutiny. In contrast, its two film adaptations have received very little. Significantly, these adaptations, one football (1997 UK), one baseball (2005 US), foreground a heterosexual romantic relationship and weight the success of this relationship with a woman whose character is transformed from uninitiated to deeply connected, 'authentic' fan. Yet, this transformative experience can be seen to undermine, or delegitimize, the fandom of women in sports domains. Where studies of women as fans in film and literature are limited and studies of the women in the central roles in Hornby's sports' texts even more so, this paper seeks to situate women as 'real fans' in fictional narratives alongside those in other emergent forms of contemporary sporting fandom. This paper presents a reading of Goethe’s problematic play Die natürliche Tochter (1803) in terms of the law–the specific ways in which French inheritance law treated illegitimate children before and during the Revolution, the legal status of the lettres de cachet, and the more general and ideological terms in which Goethe conceived of the law. Goethe’s source material was the memoirs of Stéphanie Louise de Bourbon-Conti. The most striking change Goethe made to the source material was to recast the husband forced upon her as a respectable bourgeois lawyer, and not a greedy minor royal official as he is in the memoirs. This shift and the play’s ending– in which the heroine Eugenie marries the lawyer and thus renounces her claims to high aristocratic lineage–have given rise to a tradition of reading the play as a celebration of the bourgeois legal sphere. This paper argues that the play is only weakly committed to bourgeois notions of legality and that ultimately it favours a proto-conservative theory of the law and legitimacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The trauma experienced by survivors of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima manifests itself in various ways when they commit their stories to paper. Through practice-based research into translating the atomic narratives in Personal Accounts of the Atomic Bomb, this article explores how the translator can analyse the source language articulation of trauma to transmit the unfamiliar and unfathomable experience of the A-bomb. Drawing upon Deane-Cox's concept of the translator as the secondary witness, this paper emphasises the centrality of metaphorical images invoked by trauma survivors and draws the translator's focus to the cultural references embedded within. It also highlights the survivors' use of sensory perceptions as a means of giving shape to their experiences, creating an illocutionary intensity that must be retained in translation. Exploring the translation of trauma narratives not only expands the breadth of research into trauma translation but also makes more widely available first-person accounts of the physical and emotional impact of the A-bomb in Hiroshima. This essay argues that we should understand Margaret Cavendish and Lucy Hutchinson as secretaries in the practically activist humanist tradition. Both women served as keepers of (family and political) secrets, and as readers, writers, and record keepers of papers. Hutchinson calls herself 'the faithful depository' of her husband's 'secrets', and alludes to her facility with his signature, or 'character', throughout the Memoirs. In many ways, the Memoirs themselves are a vindication of his belief in her capacities. Margaret Cavendish similarly presents herself as her husband's secretary, including in her 'Life of William Cavendish' not only a robust and notably politic account of her husband's expenditures on behalf of the monarchy – 'a Computation of My Lord's Losses' – but also a record of 'some Essayes and Discourses of My Lords, together with some Notes and Remarques of mine own'. In doing so, Cavendish remarshalls the consiliary wisdom of William Cavendish's own advice to princes as ballast for his continued political relevance and for her own secretarial and advisory competency. This paper examines a fascinating similarity among three memoirs from different periods of the Yishuv - Zionism before the establishment of the State of Israel. The three memoirs are those of Sara Malkin of the second Aliya, who was recognized as a leading woman pioneer; of Henya Peckleman of the third Aliya, who lived with her mother in conditions of economic hardship and became one of Israel/Palestine's first female construction workers, though she never gained honour or social status, and committed suicide at 35; and the memoirs of Netiva Ben-Yahuda, one of the first female fighters in the Palmach. In these three different life stories, the author identifies a similar social pattern: all three women were excluded from the centers of Zionist activity in which they were involved; in periods marked by life-threatening dangers (such as a war or plague), these women, who transgressed gender boundaries, were all falsely accused of causing death; and this accusation was in turn used as a pretext to remove them from the group and restore gender-order. The article suggests that contradictory definitions of femininity characterize Zionist ideology and practice. In the present paper, Murad's memoir, The Last Girl, is scrutinized through the lens of Resistance Literature theories. First introduced by Kanafani (1966) and adapted by scholars such as Harlow (1987) and Sangari (1389 [2010 A. D.]), Resistance Literature has come to constitute pieces of writing that are written during or after a conflict by people experiencing life under the oppressive power. For Harlow and Sangari, what is of utmost importance is the accounts of war experience pictured by civilians from all walks of life. With the Syrian war with the ISIS escalating in 2011 and its consequent overflow into Iraq, the extremist terrorists brought the war to the doorsteps of ordinary people, massacring men and leaving women to deal with the aftermath. The Last Girl is Nadia Murad's retelling of life under the ISIS as a Yazidi-Iraqi woman. At first glance, Murad pictures a sad, yet vivid image of the Yazidi genocide by the ISIS. However, in a deeper analysis of the text, one finds how being ripped apart from family, utterly displaced, terrorized and raped can also shape a rather stronger, resistant person. By applying Harlow and Sangari's theories of Resistance to Murad's memoir, what is manifested is the way in which being appointed to various kinds of terror in war-time can create a more resistant self in someone. The article aims to deepen the knowledge of contemporary Bulgarian memoirs. In its theoretical terms, this literature is examined in view of its different genre definitions, narrative features and movement between documentary and fictional. Special attention is paid to the problem of subjectivism and its extreme manifestations leading to false statements. Exploring the history of literature, the paper focuses on the memories of the “anti-fascist struggles” and, above all, the partisan movement in Bulgaria, where the ideological tendenciousness of the narrative and the moral aspects of fiction and editorial processing are analyzed. The memoirs, which went out of print after the fall of the totalitarian regime, are presented in a big touch in view of the main thematic circles, ideological directions and author's presences. This article examines how Chinua Achebe's memoir There Was a Country and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel Half of a Yellow Sun, respectively, narrates and re-historicizes the Biafran War (1967-1970). More specifically, this article highlights the different ways in which each author questions the Nigerian Federal Government's countenancing or active supports of ethnic rivalry and marginalization in relation to the Eastern part of the country which is the major cause of the war as stipulated by both authors. While Achebe's book, his final one, is a memoir and Adichie's is a novel, their views on this and other aspects of the war have much in common, and this connection is only one of the many between the two Igbo-born authors. The present discussion also establishes the connection between Achebe's memoir on the Biafra war and Adichie's literary re-historizing of the Nigerian nation and the Biafra War. Paramount in both Achebe's and Adichie's treatment of this war is the foregrounding and condemnation of the human brutality that led and defined the war. This paper posits that war is not necessary for any form of correction or peace and should not be used as a measure to effect changes in any society. It rather causes psychological trauma for those involved, and those who witnessed it are left with horrifying reminiscences which are derived from trauma. This autoethnographic paper relives my first working night as a male stripper. The purpose of this paper is to examine my subjectivities as a male stripper by unpacking and theorizing around my autoethnographic writings from working at a private bachelorette party. This paper provides a new perspective in the sex and leisure literature and puts the (male) researcher into the study. It explores the complexities and vulnerabilities entangled within my subjectivities as a male stripper – its construction, deconstruction, and co-construction. Narratives are presented depicting scenes during my first working night from pre-party preparations to post-party reflections. These narratives analyze my desires to be accepted beyond the traditional physicality central to stripping, tensions present within role ambiguity, and the co-consumption of sexuality produced within this sex and leisure space. This article centers on the life of the late Ottoman and early Turkish Republican bureaucrat Mustafa Reşat to investigate how he turned into a genocide technocrat. It examines his career and decisions at critical junctions and depicts him as an outstanding representative of a category of perpetrators who prepare the propitious infrastructure, ground, and climate for such large-scale violence as the Armenian Genocide. By shifting the perspective to the type, scale, and level of perpetrating violence, this paper sheds light on how Mustafa Reşat used his administrative and political knowledge and experience to serve Talat Pasha, who was already organizing the deportation and extermination of Armenians. Drawing upon hitherto unmined sources such as his memoirs, it demonstrates how an ultranationalist and dedicated Ottoman bureaucrat played a pivotal role in determining the main contours of the Turkish state’s mindset on the “Armenian and Kurdish Questions”. My Father's House is one of the grand narrative stories' written by Sylvia Fraser. This autobiography describes about how a female child is physically and mentally distributed by her family members, particularly her father and others. Fraser vehemently created her writings about sexuality, gender discrimination, trauma, testimony, and memoir. For her writings are whole Canadian literature explored and familiarized in the common arena. This discourse analyzes indeed a recovered memory, fake narrative, and traumatic experiences. Her important writings are Pandora (1972), The Candy Factory (1975), The Emperor's Virgin (1980), My Father's House (1987), The Rope in the Water: A Pilgrimage to India (2001), The Green Labyrinth: Exploring the Mysteries of the Amazon (2003). This paper is encouraged in a special case in which child sexual abuse puts tension on stories and genres and the luminal ways in which sexual traumatic stories are discussed by literary interest. The creation of a new art form in reply to special needs of an age governed by the trauma paragon assumes not only that art is an authority vehicle for the transformation and expression of mental and painful misery but also that can be offered forms of resilience scrutinized at realizing the difficulties of the traumatized act. This article aims to explore and explain how Fraser's recovered traumatic wounding approach a common limit-case symptomatic of the conflicting swirling around authors of child sexual abuse stories and a depute example of the threat of the public sphere of childhood sexual tortures. Child sexual trauma stories dislocate borders between narrative and testimony in provocative and discussable ways that can create a new recent of perceiving trauma stories more extensively. This article examines the process of identity formation as it pertains to two Palestinian American women in the United States, specifically in New York City. It considers the answer to a characteristically conversational question in the West: "What is this Palestine, anyway?" through a reading of Najla Said's and Suheir Hammad's memoirs, Looking for Palestine: Growing Up Confused in an Arab-American Family (New York: Riverhead Books, 2013) and Drops of This Story (New York: Writers & Readers, 1996), respectively. While the memoirs are set in socioeconomically different parts of New York City, both narrators chronicle their complicated negotiations around issues of belonging, integration, self-worth, and body shame as second-generation Palestinian women in the United States. The paper argues for the necessity to narrate such experiences, or else risk being outwritten by various Others. Given the reality of "Palestine" geographically and politically, the literary space can be powerful in locating and registering an imagined postcolonial Palestinian experience today. It can coherently articulate a broken Self, rehabilitate body politics, retrace violently digressive journeys, find meaning in a confounding kind of nationalism, and resist dominant and hostile ideologies. Indeed, the act of narration could not only heal the fraught relations between the Palestinian Self and various Others, but can allow for the envisioning of a postcolonial space from within. In the twilight of and right after World War II millions of Germans were expelled from areas initially called the Recovered Territories, and later – the Western and Northern Lands in Poland. This article focuses on the property left behind by Germans. It investigates the experiences of the Poles who directly and actively took part in the practices of appropriation of German objects. The analysis is based on memoirs submitted to the contest for diaries by settlers in the Recovered Territories that was organised by the Western Institute in Poznań in December 1956. Through the analysis of the testimonies, this paper aims to explore the constellation of meanings attributed to taking over of German property by actors who directly participated in those practices, and the meanings according to which looting functioned in daily experience after the war. It argues that the internal resistance against loot is weaker than against ordinary theft because the objects are taken out of the context of the social relations in which they functioned. Narratives in medical humanities contribute to an ethical reformation of the medicine field. The experiences of patients and doctors make the reader aware of the pain and difficulties they go through. Since any narrative is placed in space and time with the diagnosis of a disease, it veers off making the reader realise the shift in outer and inner space of the doctor/patient. This paper will first discuss the experiences of a doctor-turned patient - Paul Kalanithi as given in his memoir, When Breath Becomes Air by showing how the changes taking place inside his body--innermost space--is affecting his personal space, outer space, and the absolute space. It will then move on to argue the presence of multilayered space and time in the text and its effect on Paul. The paper will conclude by showing that the only thing that remains constant through these changes is his daughter and the memoir that he is writing. Both these entities are the constants that he leaves behind as his legacy in this ephemeral life while striking concessions with the limited time and space he is left with. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
