Abstract

This Hans Cloos lecture paper develops general reflections inspired by Ian McHarg's () book, 'Design with Nature' and concerning engineering geology. Three case studies are illustrated: landslides in reservoirs, gallery excavation in a shield volcano, large rockslides and rock avalanches.
