While ChatGPT has recently become very popular, AI has a long history and philosophy. This paper intends to explore the promises and pitfalls of the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) AI and potentially future technologies by adopting a speculative methodology. Speculative future narratives with a specific focus on educational contexts are provided in an attempt to identify emerging themes and discuss their implications for education in the 21st century. Affordances of (using) AI in Education (AIEd) and possible adverse effects are identified and discussed which emerge from the narratives. It is argued that now is the best of times to define human vs AI contribution to education because AI can accomplish more and more educational activities that used to be the prerogative of human educators. Therefore, it is imperative to rethink the respective roles of technology and human educators in education with a future-oriented mindset.

Modern scholarship has devoted relatively thorough attention to the manuscripts associated with Thomas Wyatt's poetry, especially the Devonshire manuscript and the Blage manuscript, but particularly "BL, MS. Egerton 2711," the only extant manuscript of Wyatt's verse that contains his hand. The last of these, hereafter "Egerton," was clearly Wyatt's personal volume, and it has been called "the keystone of the Wyatt canon?" It contains poems copied in the hands of three amanuenses with corrections and revisions in Wyatt's own hand. "Egerton" was probably not bound in boards during Wyatt's lifetime, but the manuscript clearly began as a group of blank paper gatherings, stitched together or perhaps just loosely grouped and wrapped in vellum. In an article published in 1989, Helen Baron identified the compiler of the Blage manuscript as one John Mantell, who was with Wyatt abroad on at least two occasions, in Spain in 1537 and at Ghent, Belgium in 1540. Like most resident ambassadors, Wyatt employed a secretary to take copies, translate documents, and keep records while abroad.

This paper studies the 2004 Spanish fictional novel by Andrés Barba, Ahora tocad música de baile, one of the first cultural texts dealing entirely with Alzheimer's disease to appear in Spain. It argues that the significance of Barba's fictional novel rests on two important issues: the ethics of representation of violence against vulnerable subjects and the ethics of care. The paper analyses how these two issues allow Barba to create a story in which the verbal and physical abuse to which the person living with Alzheimer's disease is subjected places the reader, on the one hand, as voyeur/witness of the abuse; and, on the other, as interpreter, and ultimately judge, of the fine line that separates euthanasia, assisted suicide and murder. The open ending of the novel defers all ethical and moral judgement to the reader. It examines how the novel offers a monolithic perspective about Alzheimer's disease, in which care is presented as a burden. In fact, this study shows that the novel's multi-layered structure and polyphonic nature places the emphasis on stigmas, stereotypes and negative metaphors around Alzheimer's disease, as found in contemporary social discourses. British volunteers fought on both sides of the First Carlist War (1833-1840), the dynastic struggle between the liberal factions that championed Isabella II and the reactionary forces that supported Don Carlos's claim to the Spanish throne. Despite British intervention, the conflict did not arouse as much interest in Britain as the Peninsular War (1808-1814), but it served as the setting for several English literary works that reconstructed it from different perspectives. These fictional texts include George Ryder's Los Arcos (1845), Frederick Hardman's The Student of Salamanca (1845-1846), and Edward Augustus Milman's The Wayside Cross; or, the Raid of Gomez (1847). This paper analyses these texts focusing on their representations of Spain and the First Carlist War and shows that they mostly ignore British intervention in the conflict and perpetuate the romantic image of Spain that had emerged in Britain during the Peninsular War. The Prisma Social Magazine has accepted a proposal to dedicate a thematic issue to the study of masculinities and their audiovisual representations. This issue focuses on the audiovisual representations of masculinities that dissent from the heteropatriarchal norm in Spain and Latin America from the 20th century to the present. Research papers from different Spanish and Latin American universities are presented, addressing topics related to audiovisual studies, fashion, advertising, and television fiction, among others. This paper presents a qualitative-quantitative method of analysis for semiotic narrative, applied to a case study of the image projected by immigrants in Spanish television series. The results contain five narrative prototypes in which immigrant characters tend to appear in Spanish television series. The present paper analyzes the results of a qualitative investigation developed by the Spanish public television on the values and characteristics of the national television fiction genre, as well as other aspects of its latest evolution. The conclusions of this qualitative analysis and the audience ratings confirm the hegemony of the genre within the generalist television programming. Every year literary critics, authors, publishers and readers of contemporary Spanish crime fiction meet for Semana Negra, or Black Week, in the city of Gijón, Spain. Semana Negra is a genre specific literary event consisting of roundtable discussions by authors and literary critics, book launches and award presentations, and a large book fair featuring the most recently published crime novels. This year's event will be held between the 7th and 16th of July and marks the 20th annual festival. In essence, Semana Negra is a modern day literary "carnival" focusing on one of the most popular genres in Spanish literature today. The event is key to the popularity of the genre and plays a vital role in the direction of crime fiction in Spain. Unlike many large books fairs held in Europe, Asia and the United States, these events within the Hispanic world are not merely trade events consisting of meetings between publishers and writers. This paper will examine Semana Negra's creation and evolution over the past 20 years and define the book fair as an expression of popular culture that invites the general public to participate in the "culture of reading". The following paper focuses on the study of Spanish television fiction series that, somehow, they could be considered as "gay-friendly", an Anglo-Saxon term that has been used to refer to places, policies, people and institutions who seek to bring a friendly environment to gays and lesbians. The body of analysis consists of a selection of Spanish broadcast fiction series on Spanish television throughout the years 2009 and 2010 in which we will analyze the model representation of male homosexuality. This work is doubly justified: as a part of a bigger research project on types of so far marginalized characters in television drama serials; and as a contribution to the teenage invasion of the TV screen as a call to this kind of audience. The aim of this paper is to show prototypes of adolescents created in televised products broadcast today in Spain. The methodology is based on two factors: a quantitative one about serials and characters, and a qualitative analysis of drama serials and teen characters. The result confirms the existence of a powerful standardized appearance and attitude regarding the models proposed by American series over the Spanish ones. Although many sociological studies have included attention to the field of sf, little work has been done to develop a specific sociology of sf; that is, to focus on the social dynamics within the world of sf writing and reading, and especially in the peculiar environment of fandom. In the light of studies such as Camille Bacon-Smith's "Science Fiction Culture," and John tulloch and Henry Jenkins's "Science Fiction Audiences," and in the context of Pierre Bourdieu's theoretical work on the notion of the literary field, this paper surveys the problem of the relationship between sf and mainstream literature, with special attention to the positioning of fandom. The case of the sf field in Spain, which is currently enjoying a period of expansion and a publishing boom that makes this problem increasingly relevant, is analyzed through interviews with writers, editors, and fans. I argue that the various definitions of the genre espoused by different actors in the field function as differing responses from within sf to the problem of exclusion from the mainstream. Some scientists write literary fiction books in their spare time. If these books contain scientific knowledge, literary fiction becomes a mechanism of knowledge transfer. In this case, we could conceptualize literary fiction as non-formal knowledge transfer. We model knowledge transfer via literary fiction as a function of the type of scientist (academic or non-academic) and his/her scientific field. Academic scientists are those employed in academia and public research organizations whereas non-academic scientists are those with a scientific background employed in other sectors. We also distinguish between direct knowledge transfer (the book includes the scientist's research topics), indirect knowledge transfer (scientific authors talk about their research with cultural agents) and reverse knowledge transfer (cultural agents give scientists ideas for future research). Through mixed-methods research and a sample from Spain, we find that scientific authorship accounts for a considerable percentage of all literary fiction authorship. Academic scientists do not transfer knowledge directly so often as non-academic scientists, but the former engage into indirect and reverse transfer knowledge more often than the latter. Scientists from History stand out in direct knowledge transfer. We draw propositions about the role of the academic logic and scientific field on knowledge transfer via literary fiction. We advance some tentative conclusions regarding the consideration of scientific authorship of literary fiction as a valuable knowledge transfer mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article talks about immigrant adult beginners who face issues in learning and education and discusses a project of undergraduate students which involves writing of a fictional book for immigrants from England and Spain.

This article presents the findings of an audience research conducted with 86 young Spanish people aged 15 to 29 years. The investigation examines the modes of reception of television fiction, and the impact of the shows on the viewers. Friends' influence on the choice of program, and the tendency to use social networks to comment on the shows and to talk about themselves, underline the crucial role played by TV fiction and new technologies in socialization processes. While most participants criticized the propensity of television fiction to build extreme stereotypes, they also showed a clear predilection for Spanish programs, and admitted that their characters often offer inspiration to face everyday problems. There are reasons to believe that Goya was associated with the circle of ilustrados working under the influence of the 'philosophical history' imported from France and Great Britain into late eighteenth-century Spain. His connections with this intellectual milieu prompt a revaluation of the interpretation of his allegorical paintings in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm that Folke Nordström proposed in 1962. Manuel Godoy, who probably owned them, favoured some authors pertaining to this historiographic trend, while also fostering projects aimed at preserving the Spanish national heritage, such as Laborde's Voyage pittoresque. The notions of history and of its relationship with poetry depicted by Goya must therefore be considered in connection with contemporary debates on the meaning and on the writing of history. The article provides an account on the success and longevity of Marques De Santillana's book "Proverbios," which is said to have the longest reception history of all the works in the Old Spanish wisdom corpus. It shows one factor in the success which is two genres to which the "Proverbios," belong, such as the mirror of princes and the courtesy book. The author argues that the "Proverbios," represent a moderate, kind, generous model of royal behaviour which contrasted with the Old Spanish wisdom literature. Santillana wrote the "Proverbios" in 1437 at the command of Juan II for the instruction of his son, Prince Enrique.
