This article presents a bibliometric analysis of research on COVID-19 health communication. We reviewed and analyzed 1,851 articles published in 170 peer-reviewed communication journals between January 2020 and November 2022, to identify key bibliometric information and major research topics in this rapidly expanding field of research. The distribution of countries indicates that the United States is the most productive country, and researchers from Spain, China and the United Kingdom also play an important role. Health Communication is the most influential journal in terms of research productivity and impact. The analysis of highly cited references demonstrates the interdisciplinary nature of this research field. The topics generated by structural topic modeling show that scholars have responded to a variety of issues in COVID-19 communication, encompassing different levels of health communication, the effects of information dissemination, the impact on the general public as well as vulnerable populations, health preventive behaviors and communication technologies. "Communal Solitude: The Carthusian Lay Brethren in Great Britain and Ireland, 1178–1569" by Francesca Breeden is a book that explores the history of the Carthusian lay brethren in England, Ireland, and Scotland. The book focuses on the vocational commitment of these men and their unique religious class within the Carthusian order. However, the book falls short of delivering a comprehensive analysis of the lay brothers, with only a few pages dedicated to their topic. Despite this, the book provides a valuable compendium of information about the English Carthusians, particularly the London and Mount Grace charterhouses. The bibliography is extensive, although it is not updated from the author's original PhD thesis. This article analyzes how the United Kingdom managed to establish a territorial claim in Antarctica and the Southern Seas, without having a solid historical and legal background to do it. Some of the factors to be considered are; the fragile international law of the time; implementation of imperialist policies previously applied in other regions of the globe; control of the whaling business; and disinterest of other actors involved in Antarctica. It is suggested that criticism from academic and legal spheres would have lead to the rectification of the British claim in 1917. Books and their reviews are considered to be central to knowledge dissemination in the social sciences and humanities. Despite this perceive importance, few studies have assessed the relative importance of these document types in the dissemination of knowledge. This paper aims at better understanding the place of book reviews in the scholarly communication system and to shed light--through the analysis of books on Canada, United Kingdom and United States and their reviewers--on the international circulation of ideas in the social sciences and humanities. Based on 1,675,999 book reviews indexed in the Social Science Citation Index and Arts and Humanities Citation Index over the 1975- 2016 period, our results show that book reviews are decreasing in importance in all disciplines-especially those where books have historically been peripheral. We also observe a high rate of homophily between reviewers and reviewed books, with researchers being primarily interested in the books that have been written by someone from their own country. Hence, despite the now widely held assumptions of the globalization of science, social science and humanities remains a highly localized activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses eighteenth-century English collections and literature and discusses the bibliographical difficulty presented by these eighteenth-century texts. Topics include an analysis of the work of publishers like Jacob Tonson, and color production that were presented in eighteenth-century natural history books.

Objectives: Since the mid–20th century, one citation is given historical priority as the first description of spasmodic dysphonia (SD): Ludwig Traube’s 1871 case of the “spastic form of nervous hoarseness.” Our objective is to understand how this case serves as the foundation of understanding laryngeal movement disorders. Methods: The original German paper was located and translated. Bibliographical and bibliometric methods are used to determine the citation history of this original source over the past 140 years. Results: Although secondary citations in contemporary publications typically credit Traube for establishing the clinical entity SD, his case does not conform to currently accepted diagnostic features. Citation patterns indicate the source of Traube’s priority is publications by Arnold and Luchsinger, mid–20th-century ENT clinicians, particularly their influential 1965 textbook used to train US and UK clinicians on voice disorders for several generations. Conclusions: Sometimes secondary citations in medical literature lead to the inadvertent perpetuation of factual misrepresentation. The clinical picture of Traube’s original case does not represent what clinicians would recognize as SD today. An essay is presented on pressman and compositor Benjamin Franklin's printing works in London, England from 1725 to 1726. It assesses the utility of booksellers' catalogues to determine what Franklin might have read. It also attempts to shed light on aspects of Franklin's biography including his first London visit as derived from the "Autobiography," which he began writing in 1771.

In spite of the prodigious output of books on natural history for the popular market that emanated from William Percival Westell during the first half of the twentieth century, little has been written in his appreciation save for one brief obituary. Estimated to have sold some half million copies of his works - the products of some 37 publishers - he must have had a great impact on the public's appreciation of natural history. A self-educated naturalist, he strove to make his publications accessible to all by eschewing technical language. A native of Hertfordshire, living initially in St Albans and latterly in Letchworth Garden City, he served as curator of Letchworth Museum for three decades. This article expands on his autobiography and obituary: examining his oeuvre, ethics and contacts in order to set his achievements in a wider context than has been done hitherto. Background: Health equity is a multidimensional concept that has been internationally considered as an essential element for health system development. However, our understanding about the root causes of health equity is limited. In this study, we investigated the historical roots and seminal works of research on health equity. Methods: Health equity-related publications were identified and downloaded from the Web of Science database (n = 67,739, up to 31 October 2018). Their cited references (n = 2,521,782) were analyzed through Reference Publication Year Spectroscopy (RPYS), which detected the historical roots and important works on health equity and quantified their impact in terms of referencing frequency. Results: A total of 17 pronounced peaks and 31 seminal works were identified. The first publication on health equity appeared in 1966. But the first cited reference can be traced back to 1801. Most seminal works were conducted by researchers from the US (19, 61.3%), the UK (7, 22.6%) and the Netherlands (3, 9.7%). Research on health equity experienced three important historical stages: origins (1800–1965), formative (1966–1991) and development and expansion (1991–2018). The ideology of health equity was endorsed by the international society through the World Health Organization (1946) declaration based on the foundational works of Chadwick (1842), Engels (1945), Durkheim (1897) and Du Bois (1899). The concept of health equity originated from the disciplines of public health, sociology and political economics and has been a major research area of social epidemiology since the early nineteenth century. Studies on health equity evolved from evidence gathering to the identification of cost-effective policies and governmental interventions. Conclusion: The development of research on health equity is shaped by multiple disciplines, which has contributed to the emergence of a new stream of social epidemiology and political epidemiology. Past studies must be interpreted in light of their historical contexts. Further studies are needed to explore the causal pathways between the social determinants of health and health inequalities.
