This paper examines the possibility of controlling the outcome of measured (flat space-time) relativistic effects, such as time dilation or length contractions, using pure rotations and their nontrivial interactions with Lorentz boosts in the isometry group SO + (3 , 1) . In particular, boost contributions may annihilate leaving only a geometric phase (Wigner rotation), which we see in the complex solutions of the generalized Euler decomposition problem in R 3 . We consider numerical examples involving specific matrix factorizations, along with possible applications in special relativity, electrodynamics and quantum scattering. For clearer interpretation and simplified calculations we use a convenient projective biquaternion parametrization which emphasizes the geometric phases and for a large class of problems allows for closed-form solutions in terms of only rational functions. Background: Postoperative anal dilations (PAD) are the standard of care for patients after a posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP) for anorectal malformation (ARM) or a transanal pull-through (TP) procedure for Hirschsprung disease (HD). This study assessed the psychosocial impact of PAD among caregivers of children with ARM or HD, which may inform postoperative care strategies. Methods: Caregivers of patients with ARM and HD who underwent PSARP or TP within five years participated in the online survey. Questions included demographics, patient and caregiver experiences with PAD, and baseline psychosocial functioning. Quantitative results were reported descriptively, while qualitative responses were summarized as major themes. Results: The survey indicated a response rate of 26% caregivers, with most being female (91%) and biological mothers (85%). Patients were mostly male (65%), born with ARM (74%), and were five months old on average when PAD began. Caregivers reported that during PAD, children experienced distress (56%), pain (44%), and fear (41%), while a third noted no negative reactions. Over time, their child's ability to cope with PAD got easier (38%) or stayed the same (41%). Caregivers reported worry/anxiety (88%), guilt (71%), stress (62%), and frustration (35%), noting that additional coping strategies to manage the emotional and logistical challenges of daily PAD would be helpful. Conclusion: Although PAD is necessary, it can be highly stressful for the patients and their caregivers. The objective of this work is to derive the structure of Minkowski spacetime using a Hermitian spin basis. This Hermitian spin basis is analogous to the Pauli spin basis. The derived Minkowski metric is then employed to obtain the corresponding Lorentz factors, potential Lie algebra, effects on gamma matrices and complex representations of relativistic time dilation and length contraction. Background: VDD (atrial sensing, ventricular sensing/pacing) leads are relatively rarely implanted; therefore, experience in their extraction is very limited. We aimed to investigate whether VDD lead removal may be a risk factor for the increased complexity of transvenous lead extraction (TLE) or major complications. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 3808 TLE procedures (including 103 patients with VDD leads). Results: If TLE included VDD lead removal, procedure duration (lead dilation time) was prolonged, complicated extractions were slightly more common, and more advanced tools were required. This is partly due to longer implant duration (in patients with VDD systems—135.2 months; systems without VDD leads—109.3 months; p < 0.001), more frequent presence of abandoned leads (all systems containing VDD leads—22.33% and all systems without VDD leads—10.77%), and partly to the younger age of patients with VDD leads (51.74 vs. 57.72 years; p < 0.001, in the remaining patients) at the time of system implantation. VDD lead extraction does not increase the risk of major complications (1.94 vs. 2.34%; p = 0.905). Conclusions: The extraction of VDD leads may be considered a risk factor for increased procedure complexity, but not for major complications. However, this is not a direct result of VDD lead extraction but specific characteristics of the patients with VDD leads. Operator skill and team experience combined with special custom maneuvers can enable favorable results to be achieved despite the specific design of VDD leads, even with older VDD lead models. The principle of mental gravity contends that the mind uses physical gravity as a mental model or simulacrum to express the relation between the inner self and the outer world in terms of "UP"-ness and "DOWN"-ness. The simulation of increased gravity characterises a continuum of mental gravity which states includes depression as the paradigmatic example of being down, low, heavy, and slow. The physics of gravity can also be used to model spacetime curvature in depression, particularly gravitational time dilation as a property of MG analogous to subjective time dilation (i.e., the slowing of temporal flow in conscious experience). The principle has profound implications for the Temporo-spatial Theory of Consciousness (TTC) with regard to temporo-spatial alignment that establishes a "world-brain relation" that is centred on embodiment and the socialisation of conscious states. The principle of mental gravity provides the TTC with a way to incorporate the structure of the world into the structure of the brain, conscious experience, and thought. In concert with other theories of cognitive and neurobiological spacetime, the TTC can also work towards the "common currency" approach that also potentially connects the TTC to predictive processing frameworks such as free energy, neuronal gauge theories, and active inference accounts of depression. It gives the up/down dimension of space, as defined by the gravitational field, a unique status that is connected to both our embodied interaction with the physical world, and also the inverse, reflective, emotional but still embodied experience of ourselves. Time dilation (TD) is a principal concept in the special theory of relativity (STR). The Einstein TD formula is the relation between the proper time t 0 measured in a moving frame of reference with velocity v and the dilated time t measured by a stationary observer. In this paper, an integral approach is firstly presented to rededuce the Einstein TD formula. Then, the concept of TD is introduced and examined in view of the fractional calculus (FC) by means of the Caputo fractional derivative definition (CFD). In contrast to the explicit standard TD formula, it is found that the fractional TD (FTD) is governed by a transcendental equation in terms of the hyperbolic function and the fractional-order α. For small v compared with the speed of light c (i.e., v ≪ c ), our results tend to Newtonian mechanics, i.e., t → t 0 . For v comparable to c such as v = 0.9994 c , our numerical results are compared with the experimental ones for the TD of the muon particles μ + . Moreover, the influence of the arbitrary-order α on the FTD is analyzed. The Sagnac effect and related twin paradox with a rotating disc are analyzed. It may seem that the special theory of relativity gives an easy and exhaustive treatment here. However, such consideration is deceptive since the principles of special relativity are originally established only for the inertial frames of reference, whereas the Sagnac experiment and the twin paradox exist in a noninertial one. We introduce an additional group of motions related to the rotation with uniform angular speed and show that these transformations leave the Minkowski metric invariant. Thus, we can give a firm mathematical ground to a usual easy consideration of the Sagnac effect. It should be noted that the presented result is true for a special case of motions; general coordinate transformations into accelerating frames of reference do not preserve the metric. In special relativity, the time dilation formula has been obtained by particles propagation in a straight line trajectory relative to an observer in motion. Up to now, there are no available formulas for other possible trajectories of particles. However, this paper obtains formulas of time dilation for several trajectories of particle such as parabolic, elliptic, and circular and finds a relatively accurate trajectory. The obtained formulas are employed in order to analyze the time dilation of the muon particles decay. In this paper, it is found that the time dilation of the parabolic and the elliptical trajectories exceed the corresponding results utilizing the standard Lorentz-Einstein time dilation formula. Consequently, if we are able to control the trajectory of unstable particles by some external forces, then their life-times might be increased. Probably, the increase in lifetime via a curved trajectory occurs at lower relative velocity & acceleration energy if compared to the straight line trajectory. In addition, the circular trajectory leads to multiple values of time dilation at certain velocities of an observer in motion, which may give an interpretation of fluctuations of time dilation in quantum mechanics. The result arises from the present relatively accurate formula of time dilation that is very close to the experimental data of muon decay (CERN experiment) when it is compared to the result obtained by the Lorentz-Einstein formula. Finally, it may be concluded that the time dilation not only depends on relative velocity and acceleration energy of particles but also on curved trajectories. Aims: To investigate the microvascular function in apparently healthy individuals showing signs of early macrovascular endothelial dysfunction. Methods: Healthy participants aged between 30–55 years were recruited for the present study. Baseline measurements included body-mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), 24-h blood pressure, as well as fasted venous glucose, triglycerides (TG) and cholesterol (HDL, LDL and total). Brachial artery reactivity was measured using the flow-mediated dilation (FMD) technique and retinal vessel reactivity was assessed by using the Dynamic Retinal Vessel Analyser (DVA) in all individuals. The enrolled participants were separated in two groups, based on either a reduced (group 1: <5%—n = 53) or a normal FMD response (group 2: 7–10%—n = 47). Results: Individuals exhibiting reduced FMD responses showed a reduced baseline-corrected microvascular arterial dilation response to flickering light (p = 0.039). In addition, they also exhibited a reduced arteriolar maximum dilation (p = 0.034), as well as a longer dilation reaction time (p = 0.048) and a lower dilation amplitude (p = 0.042) when compared to those with normal FMD values. Conclusion: In otherwise healthy middle-aged individuals, early signs of vascular dysfunction are reflected simultaneously at both macro- and microvascular levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ageing represents a major risk factor for many pathologies that limit human lifespan, including cardiovascular diseases. Biological ageing is a good biomarker to assess early individual risk for CVD. However, finding good measurements of biological ageing is an ongoing quest. This study aims to assess the use retinal microvascular function, separate or in combination with telomere length, as a predictor for age and systemic blood pressure in individuals with low cardiovascular risk. In all, 123 healthy participants with low cardiovascular risk were recruited and divided into three groups: group 1 (less than 30 years old), group 2 (31–50 years old) and group 3 (over 50 years old). Relative telomere length (RTL), parameters of retinal microvascular function, CVD circulatory markers and blood pressure (BP) were measured in all individuals. Symbolic regression- analysis was used to infer chronological age and systemic BP measurements using either RTL or a combination of RTL and parameters for retinal microvascular function. RTL decreased significantly with age (p = 0.010). There were also age-related differences between the study groups in retinal arterial time to maximum dilation (p = 0.005), maximum constriction (p = 0.007) and maximum constriction percentage (p = 0.010). In the youngest participants, the error between predicted versus actual values for the chronological age were smallest in the case of using both retinal vascular functions only (p = 0.039) or the combination of this parameter with RTL (p = 0.0045). Systolic BP was better predicted by RTL also only in younger individuals (p = 0.043). The assessment of retinal arterial vascular function is a better predictor than RTL for non-modifiable variables such as age, and only in younger individuals. In the same age group, RTL is better than microvascular function when inferring modifiable risk factors for CVDs. The goal of this study is to assess speech comprehension and listening effort by means of pupillometry, in patients with bone-anchored hearing system (BAHS). The study was performed prospectively in a group of 21 hearing-impaired adults, unilaterally implanted with BAHS Ponto. Listening effort was compared in patients wearing two sound processors (Oticon Medical AB, Askim, Sweden): Ponto 3 SuperPower (P3SP) and Ponto Pro (PP). Every patient was invited to two visits, separated by a 3-month break. The first session was to establish the noise level needed to obtain 95% correct sentence recall in the hearing in noise test (HINT), when speech is presented at 70 dB SPL. During the second session, pupillometry, with the use of the above-mentioned conditions, was performed. The mean HINT scores obtained during the second visit were 96.3% for PP and 97.7% for P3SP (p = 0.9863). In pupillometry, no significant differences were found for average PPD (peak pupil dilation; p = 0.3247), average peak pupil dilation timing (p = 0.527) and for pupil dilation growth curves with both processors. The findings of this study suggest that BAHS users allocate similar listening effort with PP and P3SP when processing speech-in-noise at a sound pressure level not saturating Ponto Pro and at a fixed performance level of 95%. This paper discusses a choice of the most rational reinforcement details for frame corners subjected to opening bending moment. Frame corners formed from elements of both the same and different cross section heights are considered. The case of corners formed of elements of different cross section is not considered in Eurocode 2 and is very rarely described in handbooks. Several reinforcement details with both the same and different cross section heights are presented. The authors introduce a new reinforcement detail for the different cross section heights. The considered details are comprised of the primary reinforcement in the form of straight bars and loops and the additional reinforcement in the form of diagonal bars or stirrups or a combination of both diagonal stirrups and bars. Two methods of static analysis, strut-and-tie method (S&T) and finite element method (FEM), are used in the research. FEM calculations are performed with Abaqus software using the Concrete Damaged Plasticity model (CDP) for concrete and the classical metal plasticity model for reinforcing steel. The crucial CDP parameters, relaxation time and dilatation angle, were calibrated in numerical tests in Abaqus. Dirac's Generalized Hamiltonian Dynamics (GHD) is a purely classical formalism for systems having constraints: it incorporates the constraints into the Hamiltonian. Dirac designed the GHD specifically for applications to quantum field theory. In one of our previous papers, we redesigned Dirac's GHD for its applications to atomic and molecular physics by choosing integrals of the motion as the constraints. In that paper, after a general description of our formalism, we considered hydrogenic atoms as an example. We showed that this formalism leads to the existence of classical non-radiating (stationary) states and that there is an infinite number of such states—just as in the corresponding quantum solution. In the present paper, we extend the applications of the GHD to a charged Spherical Harmonic Oscillator (SHO). We demonstrate that, by using the higher-than-geometrical symmetry (i.e., the algebraic symmetry) of the SHO and the corresponding additional conserved quantities, it is possible to obtain the classical non-radiating (stationary) states of the SHO and that, generally speaking, there is an infinite number of such states of the SHO. Both the existence of the classical stationary states of the SHO and the infinite number of such states are consistent with the corresponding quantum results. We obtain these new results from first principles. Physically, the existence of the classical stationary states is the manifestation of a non-Einsteinian time dilation. Time dilates more and more as the energy of the system becomes closer and closer to the energy of the classical non-radiating state. We emphasize that the SHO and hydrogenic atoms are not the only microscopic systems that can be successfully treated by the GHD. All classical systems of N degrees of freedom have the algebraic symmetries ON+1 and SUN, and this does not depend on the functional form of the Hamiltonian. In particular, all classical spherically symmetric potentials have algebraic symmetries, namely O4 and SU3; they possess an additional vector integral of the motion, while the quantal counterpart-operator does not exist. In General Relativity, the gravitational field of a spherically symmetric non-rotating body is described by the Schwarzschild metric. This metric is invariant under time reversal, which implies that the power series expansion of the time dilation contains only even powers of v / c . The weak-field post-Newtonian approximation defines the relativistic time dilation of order ϵ (or of order (v / c) 2 ) of the small parameter. The next non-zero term of the time dilation is expected to be of order ϵ 2 , which is impossible to measure with current technology. The new model presented here, called Relativistic Newtonian Dynamics, describes the field with respect to the coordinate system of a far-removed observer. The resulting metric preserves the symmetries of the problem and satisfies Einstein's field equations, but predicts an additional term of order ϵ 3 / 2 for the time dilation. This term will cause an additional periodic time delay for clocks in eccentric orbits. The analysis of the gravitational redshift data from the Galileo satellites in eccentric orbits indicates that, by performing an improved satellite mission, it would be possible to test this additional time delay. This would reveal which of the coordinate systems and which of the above metrics are real. In addition to the increase of accuracy of the time dilation predictions, such an experiment could determine whether the metric of a spherically symmetric body is time reversible and whether the speed of light propagating toward the gravitating body is the same as the speed propagating away from it. We present a Relativistic Newtonian Dynamics ( R N D ) for motion of objects in a gravitational field generated by a moving source. As in General Relativity ( G R ), we assume that objects move by a geodesic with respect to some metric, which is defined by the field. This metric is defined on flat lab spacetime and is derived using only symmetry, the fact that the field propagates with the speed of light, and the Newtonian limit. For a field of a single source, the influenced direction of the field at spacetime point x is defined as the direction from x to the to the position of the source at the retarded time. The metric depends only on this direction and the strength of the field at x. We show that for a static source, the R N D metric is of the same form as the Whitehead metric, and the Schwarzschild metric in Eddington–Finkelstein coordinates. Motion predicted under this model passes all classical tests of G R . Moreover, in this model, the total time for a round trip of light is as predicted by G R , but velocities of light and object and time dilation differ from the G R predictions. For example, light rays propagating toward the massive object do not slow down. The new time dilation prediction could be observed by measuring the relativistic redshift for stars near a black hole and for sungrazing comets. Terrestrial experiments to test speed of light predictions and the relativistic redshift are proposed. The R N D model is similar to Whitehead's gravitation model for a static field, but its proposed extension to the non-static case is different.
