The article discusses the writing of the memoirs by U.S. President Harry S. Truman. Truman worked on the memoirs full time, from 9 until 4, five days a week, for thirty months. Accompanying Truman home from his office each afternoon was a small aluminum carrying case. It usually held his staff's production for the day. He and his wife read the manuscript at night. The next day it was returned to the typists with notes and changes penciled in the margins in his or his wife's hand writing. Truman was a good copy editor and his notes were very perceptive.
