Nowadays, there are not comprehensive studies on the idioms used by Pier Paolo Pasolini in his vast literary and non-fiction production. There is only one essay, although rich in data and starting points, on a proverb cited in an article published in the weekly «Il mondo» in 1975 (Rondinelli 2017). This paper, therefore, essentially has three objectives: 1) to trace the idioms used by the Emilian writer, also referring to other interesting phraseology for the purposes of the research; 2) to provide information on the identified idioms, retracing the most significant elements of their history; 3) to identify the clues that explain their use in Pasolini. This paper sets out to analyze Kaikō Takeshi's travelogue "Kako to mirai no kuniguni - Chūgoku to Tōō" ("Countries of Past and Future - China and Eastern Europe"), which describes Kaikō's first experience of Eastern Europe and China. As a writer who got to be well-recognized for his reportage writing and novels based on his own experience, Kaikō's initial struggle abroad turned out to be the opportunity that lit his inner desire to continue searching for the truth, leading him towards the exploration of the boundaries between fiction and non-fiction, which is the writing he is still most well remembered for today. This paper addresses the gap between familiar popular narratives describing Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as the trope of the killer robot, and the realistic near-future implications of machine intelligence and automation for technology policy and society. The authors conducted a series of interviews with technologists, science fiction writers, and other experts, as well as a workshop, to identify a set of key themes relevant to the near future of AI. In parallel, they led the analysis of almost 100 recent works of science fiction stories with AI themes to develop a preliminary taxonomy of AI in science fiction. These activities informed the commissioning of six original works of science fiction and non-fiction response essays on the themes of "intelligence" and "justice" that were published as part of the Slate Future Tense Fiction series in 2019 and 2020. Our findings indicate that artificial intelligence remains deeply ambiguous both in the policy and cultural contexts: we struggle to define the boundaries and the agency of machine intelligence, and consequently find it difficult to govern or interact with such systems. However, our findings also suggest more productive avenues of inquiry and framing that could foster both better policy and better narratives around AI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper considers Angela Carter's engagement with the late-nineteenth century in her 1984 novel Nights at the Circus through the lens of neo-Victorian decadence and in parallel with the writer's ongoing reflection on femininity and gender roles, as she articulated it in her non-fiction throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. The main focus is on fin de siècle imagery and its subsequent revisions in feminist art and thought, in the light of the concept of crossmapping, which looks beyond intertextuality, and can thus account for Carter's complex interweaving of images and texts across two different epochs, that she both constructed as decadent. Following the coup d'etat of 1953 and the trauma caused by it gradually in the 60s and 70s in Iran a new subjectivity, a new vision for the Iranian subject of modernity emerged. Iranians were called by their intellectuals to overcome the trauma, which was called "occidentosis", a state in which everything that they try to create and produce is "stilborn". They were asked to no longer accept predestination and quietism, developing courage instead, becoming militant and finding their own, authentic way of encountering technologies and the West. This paper systematically demonstrates that the new subjectivity, which can be seen in the Iranian prose and non-fiction in the 60s and 70s is heavily influenced by European intellectual ideas. CONSIDERED ONE OF THE GREATEST ENGLISH PROSE STYLISTS OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY, AND ARGUABLY OF ALL TIMES, V S NAIPAUL WAS A COLOSSUS WHO STRODE THE LITERARY REALM. HE WOVE A FICTIONAL LANDSCAPE AND WAS KNOWN TO SPIN MAGIC OUT OF WORDS, AND WAS EASILY IN THE LEAGUE OF LEGENDARY WRITERS LIKE CHARLES DICKENS, LEO TOLSTOY AND JOSEPH CONRAD. NAIPAUL WAS AWARDED THE NOBEL PRIZE IN 2001, WHERE HE HIGHLIGHTED ONLY HIS ADOPTED COUNTRY BRITAIN, AND THE LAND OF HIS ANCESTORS INDIA, BUT NEVER MENTIONED THE COUNTRY OF HIS BIRTH, TRINIDAD, PART OF THE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS. “I found myself, as I grew older, increasingly writing about sexuality and its manifestations in human practice. And I found most of my raw material in the lumber room of the Western European imagination,” Angela Carter wrote in “Notes from the Front Line.” The passage is significant for several reasons. Carter identifies sexuality in its diverse manifestations as her main concern and acknowledges images derived from European popular tradition as the source of her “raw material.” Moreover, she characterises her prose as intertextual and identifies herself as a Caucasian Westerner. It is from this contemporary, Europe-centred perspective that she, first, surveys manifestations of sexuality, and then uses them to create her own—often allegorical—imaginative stories. Literature and journalism are two field of study that has been a never-ending discussion throughout the history. The two fields, regardless of being considered as separate entity, has its association in the course. This paper dwells into the two fields together, that is, on literary journalism and how literary journalism examines the blurring of boundaries between narrative writing and factual reporting through comparison of select works of narrative nonfiction. The text analysed is a novelistic piece, “The Yoga Store Murder” (2013) by Dan Morse. The study confronts the reluctance to acknowledge this form of reportage as authentic and reliable because its literariness is misconstrued as compromising the objectivity of the piece. The authors also examine how literary journalism fits within the rubric of both literature and journalism. The study addresses the following research questions: where do fact and fiction meet in literary journalistic narratives? how do we navigate questions of authenticity, reliability and journalistic integrity in narrative journalism? The questions will be attempted to be answered with a detailed analysis of a text of investigative journalism that is also nonfiction writing, though literary in nature.

Poland 1945: War and Peace by I'vfagdalena Grzebalkowska belongs to the genre of reportage, while it tends to represent history from the perspective of many microhistories or microstories. A thorough analysis of the work in the context of its genre determinants enables to define it on the one hand as a historical reportage, and on the other as a collective (auto)biography of various ethnic, national and linguistic communities, not only Polish, but also Polish-Kashubian, Polish-Silesian, Polish-Jewish, Polish-German and Polish-German-Russian-Ukrainian. It is therefore a collective and intercultural (auto)biography, which is being constructed in the course of constant confrontation with the "other". The purpose of this paper is to reflect on Grzebalkowska's book in terms of literary genre theory, to characterize it as a form of non-fiction, documentary prose, both biographical and autobiographical, collective and individual, and to comment upon its genre features in relation to such concepts as narrativism and theory of historiography. A novel is not always limited to long works of prose fiction (Hughes, 2002); a novel can inspire anyone in any field. This study employs a bibliometric analysis approach. The data used were 6.516 documents downloaded from scopus.com (see Figure 1). Microsoft Excel 2019 is used to analyze the average publication each year, while VOSviewer is used to create data visualizations and find the number of citations. The results show that the publication trend occurs in 2022 as many as 687. Then, the most researched research theme is "literature, novels, and identity". In addition, there are several results of citation analysis based on searching the most influential documents, authors, organizations, sources, organizations and countries. It can be concluded that the development of novel publications is increasing to the present day. Objectives: This study aimed to examine school-aged children’s story comprehension skills according to text type and story modalities. Methods: A total of 348 elementary school children from grades 1 to 6 participated in this study. Participants answered the story comprehension questions after performing the story comprehension task according to the three- story modalities. One child read two fictional and one nonfictional texts, or two nonfictional and one fictional texts, and were randomly assigned according to text type and story modality. Story comprehension questions consisted of both factual and inference questions. Results: A significant difference was found in story comprehension performance according to the grade, text type, and story modality. As children get older, the performance of a story comprehension task increased significantly. Regarding the text type, the comprehension of fiction was significantly higher than the nonfiction comprehension. Comparing the story comprehension performance task according to the story modality, the performance was high in the order of reading-while-listening, listening, and reading. In fiction, there was a significant difference between listening and reading modality, whereas no significant difference was found between text modalities in nonfiction. Conclusion: The findings suggest that presenting text as a complex form of listening and reading to schoolaged children can aid in information processing and help children improve their story comprehension. Also, children’s age and text type need to be considerd for assessment and interventions aimed at children’s successful story comprehension. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study reported on here used a corpus approach to identify approaches to the translation of English nonfiction titles into Arabic. The quantitative analysis shows that the literal translation approach takes a first seat featuring 76% of the titles in the corpus. The other translation approaches include employment of related words (9%), paraphrase/explication (7%), transliteration alone (7%), and adaptation (1%). The qualitative analysis revealed that title translation can be a critical and challenging task bounded by linguistic and socio-cultural factors, as well as commercial interests and ethical considerations that the translator needs to consider. Accordingly, the researcher explored the adequacy of the Arabic renditions by examining the linguistic accuracy and the preservation of source title functions as well as the totality of meaning, with reference to the target culture. With regard to the translation of nonfiction titles in this study, the literal translation approach effectively produces linguistically intact target titles which, in most cases, are in line with the target culture. Nevertheless, translators may resort to other approaches when literal translation fails to achieve a comparable linguistic, cultural, and commercial effect in the target language. University–industry interaction has many supporters and some detractors in the scholarly literature. Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) policy frameworks emphasise interactions between universities and stakeholders other than industry, and the contribution made by these interactions to a range of goals such as environmental sustainability. Given the significance of discourse to shape public opinion, it is important that academic and policy actors convey positive views of university interaction. We investigate whether this is happening by examining representations of university interactions in popular culture. Since public opinion can shape science, our investigation could also suggest new research questions. Our sample includes science fiction novels that won prestigious awards (Hugo, Nebula and Locus) for the genre, from the 1970s to the 2010s. The use of an objective corpus of the literature increases external validity, a methodological novelty in representations of science studies. We show how science fiction, predominantly, is critical of university interactions, reflecting a lack of convincing institutional narratives on their benefits. The apprehensions expressed about interactions with industry or other stakeholders are equivalent. We offer some recommendations for research on STI policy frameworks to incorporate critical views of university–society interaction, including threats to sustainability, and new research questions related to defence of non-disclosure of information for political reasons and conflicts of equity due to the lack of career progression for 'disengaged' academics. The article analyzes how some non-fiction films (institutional documentaries, newsreels, and amateur films) produced between 1945 and the late 1950s in France are featured as archive images in contemporary documentaries on the post-WWII era. These post-war non-fiction films depict the challenging reconstruction of cities that had been heavily damaged during the end of the war. Meanwhile, the uniqueness of this architectural heritage seems to have been forgotten despite the inventiveness of the modern architecture of the 1940s and 1950s. The recent decades have even witnessed a net outflow of inhabitants from the rebuilt city centers. By promoting this architectural heritage, cinema plays a key role in reconnecting the inhabitants with the history that shaped the local identity of these rebuilt cities, such as Dunkirk or Lorient. Indeed, documentaries produced on the singular living experiences like the Unité d’Habitation designed by Le Corbusier in Marseille or the Cités Castors (“Beavers” cities) built by and for their inhabitants allow these small communities to share a sense of belonging and to maintain a collective identity. Besides, the digitization and the reuse of amateur films allow us to rediscover everyday life during the post-war reconstruction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The increase in the number of godmen is due to the support they received from people, the devotees and followers, in the society. Naturally, godmen as a theme attracted writers and scholars, leading to the increasing number of fiction and non-fiction. In addition, the godmen themselves showed great interest in promoting a saintly image themselves through media. The present project attempts to study these different modes of representations of godmen - Nonfiction, Fiction, and in the Spiritual Discourse - which form a good corpus of Indian writing. The introduction talks about the increase in the emergence of god men, the devotion to godmen, a trend that can be linked to the increasing need for spiritual guidance. This chapter tries to read "The Grand Inquisitor", a section of the novel, The Brothers Karamazov, by Fyodor Doestoevsky and use it as a method of approaching the function of these different modes of godmen in Indian Writing. Chapter II analyses two nonfiction works, namely Richard Dawkins' God Delusion and Khushwant Singh's Gods and Godmen of India to highlight the nonfictional mode which allows a direct and critical depictions wherein the writers could afford to completely denounce religion and godmen. Richard Dawkins goes to an extent of debunking the very basis of devotion and Faith. Khushwant Singh confronts issues related to religion, faith, blind faith and the rise of new cults in India. Chapter III focuses on the fictions of R.K. Narayan and G. V. Desani, who while condemning godmen, implicitly discuss the faith of the devotees and their continuous support. R. K Narayan adopts a passive approach to highlight the blind faith of devotees despite the controversies. Desani brilliantly posits his attack in an indirect manner and takes a jab at the spiritual gurus. Chapter IV discusses godmen's selfrepresentation through their spiritual discourse and the impact it creates on the devotees. A focus on the performative nature of these discourses reveals the godmen's conscious creation of their self-image. The Conclusion sums up the arguments of the previous chapters. It will also show how Dostoevsky's "Grand Inquisitor" acts as a cornerstone to understand the rampant rise in the number of godmen in the Indian society.
