The article reports about the "Third Australian Conference on Information Systems," organized by the Australian Computer Society, which will be held between October 5-8, 1992 at the University of Wollongong, New South Wales. The aim of the Conference is to advance debates concerning the roles and capabilities of information systems in organizations, and to identify and examine core definitions that constitute the discipline. The discipline must consider how systems are co-opted into organizational processes, how information systems practices influence work in organizations, and how systems and systems development projects change organizational cultures. Multidisciplinary or extra-disciplinary theory is being applied to Information Systems. Some newer theoretical directions have included the application of postmodernism, ethnographic approaches, critical theoretical perspectives, hermeneutics, grounded theory and semiotics. In addition to original research papers, the Program Committee will accept proposals for refereed panels on controversial or significant issues.

A special-interest tourist market that holds out great promise for continued growth well into the next century is that of MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions, exhibitions). At the same time, changing prices in particular destinations relative to others are regarded as one of the most important economic influences on destination shares of total international tourism flows. The question arises as to the price competitiveness of major competing MICE destinations. Although earlier research has recognised that a destination's price competitiveness differs according to a visitor's country of origin there has been relatively little attention paid to tourism price competitiveness from the perspective of those having different motives for travel. This paper has four major aims: first, to provide a method by which price competitiveness of tourism by journey purpose can be estimated; second, to construct price competitiveness indices that measure, absolutely and relative to major competitors world-wide, the price competitiveness of Australia's MICE tourism industry; third, to compare Australia's price competitiveness as a MICE destination with its price competitiveness for total inbound tourism; fourth, to discuss the implications of the results for travel and tourism decision-makers in both the private and public sectors. The article presents information on the International Tourism and Media Conference that was held at La Trobe University in Australia from November 24, 2004 to November 26, 2004. The enormously successful conference was promoted as a first for tourism and media and plans are already in place for the second conference to be held in late 2006. The papers that were presented at the conference were a combination of refereed and working documents. The geographical area covered by the works included Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., and India--urban and rural areas alike. The range of media integrated film, television, newspapers, and magazines. Other topics incorporated music, humor, and outer space, while issues ranged from destination marketing to myth making. Research styles integrated into the papers were conceptual, empirical, narrative, case study, and mixed method methodologies, with the main aim being to effectively address the research question. Many speakers made the observation that research into the relationship between tourism and mass media was a relatively new field of study and indeed there remained a great deal to explore.
