The death penalty in Indonesia is still maintained to combat crime within the Indonesian criminal law reform. Although many states have it removed, Indonesia would have the sole discretion to keep it. Despite the opposition, the death penalty application still has a juridical and sociological basis, so it is still legal to be maintained. Indonesia itself has overshadowed the death penalty with a form of legality according to international law so that the position of Indonesia that still maintain the death penalty cannot be blamed. Moreover, sociologically, Indonesian people still accept those who commit an offence who may have profound implications that could lead to the death penalty. This issue is what became the basis for lawmakers in Indonesia to keep it. This research uses the doctrinal method toexamine various regulations regarding capital punishment and non-doctrinal to understand the community's situation related to the existence of capital punishment in Indonesia. The death penalty is a more effective deterrent and therefore prevents crime better. With the death penalty, others were about to commit a similar crime is expected not to commit the crime. The death penalty is more effectively immobilizing offenders. Perpetrators, in principle, still manage to have the desire to commit the crime again after release. The death penalty for perpetrators of crimes is not a violation of human rights, but rather to respect human rights itself, namely for victims of crime. The setting and the application of the death penalty in Indonesia until now is still needed. They are considering that there are still many crimes that undermine humanity's values or the crimes that harm the State and crackdown on corruption in society.

Aim\ud \ud Climate and land use are key determinants of biodiversity, with past and ongoing changes posing serious threats to global ecosystems. Unlike most other organism groups, plant species can possess dormant life‐history stages such as soil seed banks, which may help plant communities to resist or at least postpone the detrimental impact of global changes. This study investigates the potential for soil seed banks to achieve this.\ud \ud \ud \ud Location\ud \ud Europe.\ud \ud \ud \ud Time period\ud \ud 1978–2014.\ud \ud \ud \ud Major taxa studied\ud \ud Flowering plants.\ud \ud \ud \ud Methods\ud \ud Using a space‐for‐time/warming approach, we study plant species richness and composition in the herb layer and the soil seed bank in 2,796 community plots from 54 datasets in managed grasslands, forests and intermediate, successional habitats across a climate gradient.\ud \ud \ud \ud Results\ud \ud Soil seed banks held more species than the herb layer, being compositionally similar across habitats. Species richness was lower in forests and successional habitats compared to grasslands, with annual temperature range more important than mean annual temperature for determining richness. Climate and land‐use effects were generally less pronounced when plant community richness included seed bank species richness, while there was no clear effect of land use and climate on compositional similarity between the seed bank and the herb layer.\ud \ud \ud \ud Main conclusions\ud \ud High seed bank diversity and compositional similarity between the herb layer and seed bank plant communities may provide a potentially important functional buffer against the impact of ongoing environmental changes on plant communities. This capacity could, however, be threatened by climate warming. Dormant life‐history stages can therefore be important sources of diversity in changing environments, potentially underpinning already observed time‐lags in plant community responses to global change. However, as soil seed banks themselves appear, albeit less, vulnerable to the same changes, their potential to buffer change can only be temporary, and major community shifts may still be expected.

The restrictions for halal and vegetarian fermented products apply not only to the food ingredients, but also to the inoculum media. The utilization of a medium for lactic acid bacteria (LAB) leads to some issues from animal-derived proteins sources that may be doubtful for halal and/or vegetarian use. This study aimed to develop a plant-based medium for culturing and maintaining LAB. The result demonstrated that 10 g/L soybean powder in sweet potato extract was suitable for cultivating Lactiplantibacillus plantarum TISTR 2075 with no significant difference (p < 0.05) from MRS (de Man, Rogosa and Sharpe) in the cell number (9.12 log CFU/mL) and specific growth rate (0.04). The feasibility of a plant-based medium to grow and maintain the LAB strains from different origins was evaluated. Compared to MRS, Lpb. plantarum TISTR 2075, Lpb. plantarum MW3, and Lacticaseibacillus casei TISTR 1463 could grow almost as well in a plant-based medium. This medium was also suitable for maintaining the viability of LAB during storage, especially when subjected to slant agar stock culture. It is practical and costs at least 10 times less than MRS. Thus, this study created a low-cost plant-based medium that could be used in laboratories, especially for applications in halal and vegetarian food products.

Polyploidy, resulting from the duplication of an organism’s or a cell’s entire genome, greatly affects genes and genomes, cells and tissues, organisms and even entire ecosystems. Despite the wide-reaching importance of polyploidy, communication across disciplinary boundaries to identify common themes at different scales has been almost non-existent. However, a critical need remains to understand commonalities that derive from shared polyploid cellular processes across organismal diversity, levels of biological organization, and fields of inquiry – from biodiversity and biocomplexity to medicine and agriculture. Here, we review the current understanding of polyploidy at the organismal and sub-organismal levels, identify shared research themes and elements, and propose new directions to integrate research on polyploidy toward confronting interdisciplinary grand challenges of the 21(st) century.

The existance of wetted land in Peri-urban Yogyakarta can not separated from the farmer’s commitment. This research is aimed to analyze farmer’s commitment in maintaining wetted land ownership status in Peri-Urban Yogyakarta and to identify its influencing factors. This research is conducted in peri-urban area of Yogyakarta by taking some wettted land’s owners who are active in farming, as the respondents. The meaurement of farmer’s commitment indicators are done by likert scale. The result indicated that farmers in Peri-urban area of Yogyakarta have low commitment in maintaining wetted land ownership status. Low level of farmer’s commitment are reflected from the low commitment to prevent the desire to sell the wetted land, to rent out the wetted land for non-agricultural use and to change the wetted land for non-agricultural use. This research also indicated that the low commitment is also significantly influenced by wetted land price, wetted land location, and its social value.

Community stability is an objective of USDA Forest Service timber sales. This paper examines that objective, and the success the Forest Service can have in attaining it, through its intended maintenance of a constant volume timber harvest schedule. We apply a three-factor, two-sector modified general equilibrium model with empirical evidence from the timber-based counties of western Montana. Departure from a market responsive timber policy can have positive impacts on the wood products sector, but the net effects on the local community are very small. The costs to the public treasury of pursuing such a policy dwarf these small community benefits.
