Es recullen els testimonis de diversos autors que van escriure en els diferents números i que valoren com ha canviat la disciplina, la indústria de la traducció i els perfils professionals, alhora que reflexionen sobre la seva evolució i els reptes de futur. This article reviews the topics published in Revista Tradumàtica from first issue 0 in 2001 until issue 19 in 2021. It gathers the testimonies of various authors who contributed to the different issues, changes in translation, the translation industry and professional profiles, while reflecting on this evolution and futures challenges. El artículo repasa los temas sobre los que ha publicado la Revista Tradumàtica desde el número 0 (2001) hasta el 19 (2021). Se recogen los testimonios de varios autores que escribieron en los distintos números y que valoran como ha cambiado la disciplina, la indústria de la traducción y los perfiles profesionales, a la vez que reflexionan sobre su evolución y los retos de futuro.

Introduction: Armed conflict is devastating to the health system, is a public health concern and recovery is an enormous challenge. The independence of South Sudan in 2011 brought much hope. However, eight years later, the country is still at conflict with itself. Although rich in resources, it is ranked among the poorest in the world and depends on donor funding for most service delivery, especially health. In an international context, promoting the localisation of humanitarian aid and the integration of health services, there is a lot to learn from the roles being played by healthcare workers (HCWs) throughout the conflict in South Sudan. Method: A literature review was conducted to identify the roles of local HCWs in South Sudan since 2011. Four databases were searched, grey literature sourced, and snowballing done to capture additional documents for a comprehensive analysis. Questions were adapted from the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme for qualitative and systematic reviews guided appraisals of the articles. Results were systematically coded, synthesised and summarised using a priori and emergent themes. Results: The health system in South Sudan is very fragmented with heavy dependence on humanitarian aid. There is serious shortage in health workforce with heavy reliance on unskilled workers to fill in the gaps, mainly in rural settings. Although close collaboration exists among different stakeholders to deliver integrated services, poor infrastructure, insecurity, lack of capacity and donor dependency still poses a challenge towards localisation of aid and sustainability. Conclusions: The literature reviewed for this study indicates that the road towards localisation of health care is possible but will depend highly on continued collaboration between the different contributors, integration of services, building capacity of the nationals, increased government funding and infrastructural development. Local involvement of HCWs by international agencies is paramount in ownership and sustainability of services.

Since becoming a signatory of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015, El Salvador has endeavored to incorporate these international commitments into its programmatic f ramework, its Five-Year Development Plan (2014-2019). The United Nations subscribed a support f rame to enhance these efforts, based on the creation of a national sustainable development agenda in El Salvador. This involves coordination with the global development goals and indicators outlined in the SDGs in order to integrate social policies and national development plans. However, these efforts entail the identification of territories as specific units for implementing this national agenda, and measurement of the progress made towards fulfilment. This article examines the main difficulties and challenges involved in the localization of the municipalities for the 2030 agenda in the country. A partir de la subscripción a la Agenda 2030 de Desarrollo Sostenible en el año 2015, El Salvador ha realizado esfuerzos para incorporar estos compromisos internacionales en sus marcos programáticos, así como una alineación a su Plan Quinquenal de Desarrollo (2014-2019). Para potenciar este esfuerzo, Naciones Unidas suscribió un marco de apoyo especializado a partir de la creación de una agenda nacional de desarrollo sostenible en El Salvador. Lo anterior supone la coordinación para la integración de las políticas sociales y los planes de desarrollo nacional con las metas e indicadores globales de desarrollo propuestos en los ODS. Sin embargo, estos esfuerzos implican identificar a los territorios como unidades específicas para la implementación de esta agenda nacional y su correspondiente medición sobre el avance en su cumplimiento. Este artículo tiene el propósito de explorar las principales dificultades y desaf íos de la localización de la agenda 2030 en los municipios salvadoreños.

This document focuses on describing and analysing the use cases that will demonstrate and validate the technologies to be tested in the PREDICT-6G project and establish the system requirements necessary to achieve the project's goals. Each use case will be described, outlining the targets and KPIs, and analysing the technical components and systems, based on a common definition of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that will be used to analyse and evaluate the technologies used in the project and a standard methodology to compare the uses case, which are described in this document. Taking this in account, a traffic characterization and the system requirements for the projects are also define in this document, as well as, an initial explanation of the architectural and security requirements.

Real-time, accurate, and robust localisation is critical for autonomous vehicles (AVs) to achieve safe, efficient driving, whilst real-time performance is essential for AVs to achieve their current position in time for decision making. To date, no review paper has quantitatively compared the real-time performance between different localisation techniques based on various hardware platforms and programming languages and analysed the relations among localisation methodologies, real-time performance and accuracy. Therefore, this paper discusses state-of-the-art localisation techniques and analyses their localisation performance in AV application. For further analysis, this paper firstly proposes a localisation algorithm operations capability (LAOC)-based equivalent comparison method to compare the relative computational complexity of different localisation techniques; then, it comprehensively discusses the relations among methodologies, computational complexity, and accuracy. Analysis results show that the computational complexity of localisation approaches differs by a maximum of about 〖10〗^7 times, whilst accuracy varies by about 100 times. Vision- and multi-sensor fusion-based localisation techniques have about 2–5 times potential for improving accuracy compared with lidar-based localisation. Lidar- and vision-based localisation can reduce computational complexity by improving image registration method efficiency. Multi-sensor fusionbased localisation can achieve better real-time performance compared with lidar- and vision-based localisation because each standalone sensor does not need to develop a complex algorithm to achieve its best localisation potential. Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology can improve positioning robustness. Finally, results show that the fusion technique combined with V2X has considerable potential for achieving a cost-efficient localisation solution for AVs.

Dominant discourse focuses on reform, although calls for the broader decolonisation of aid are mounting. This paper examines the impact of neoliberal-inspired competition that incentivises institutional expansion and clashes with localisation. It introduces the concept of the 'conflict paradox' to illustrate how armed conflict and restricted humanitarian access for international actors can both empower and disempower local and national humanitarian actors (LNHAs). These themes are then demonstrated using case studies of Myanmar, Somalia, and Somaliland, revealing the potential for LNHAs to demand humanitarian system change, as well as the challenges to doing so. The paper concludes that for localisation to progress towards decolonisation, fundamental ideological shifts away from the neoliberal competitive mindset are essential. Notably, there is a need to move from low-quality localisation (subcontracting) to high-quality localisation grounded in solidarity and an emancipatory agenda.

Counting the number of people in a crowd has gained attention in the last decade. Due to its benefit to many applications such as crowd behavior analysis, crowd management, and video surveillance systems, etc. Counting crowded scenes, like stadiums, represents a challenging task due to the inherent occlusions and density of the crowd inside and outside the stadiums. Finding a pattern to control thousands of people and counting them is a challenging task. With the introduction of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), enables performing this task with acceptable performance. The accuracy of a CNN-based method is related to the size of data used for training. The availability of the dataset is sparse. In particular, there is no dataset in the literature that can be used for training applications for crowd scene. This paper proposes two main contributions including a new dataset for crowd counting, and a CNN-based method for counting the number of people and generating the crowd density maps. The proposed dataset for Football Supporters Crowd (FSC-Set) is composed of 6000 annotated images (manually) of different types of scenes that contain thousands of people gathering in or around the stadiums. FSC-Set contains more than 1.5 Million individuals. The collected images are captured under varying Fields of Views (FOV), illuminations, resolutions, and scales. The proposed dataset can also be utilized for other applications, such as individual's localization and face detection as well as team recognition from supporter images. Further, we propose a CNN-based method named FSCNet for crowd counting exploiting context-aware attention, spatial-wise attention, and channel-wise attention modules. The proposed method is evaluated on our established FSC-Set and other existing datasets then compared to state-of-the-art methods. The obtained results show satisfactory performances on all the datasets. Quasicrystals are a class of materials that are long-range ordered yet not periodic. These unique features make them a fascinating middle ground between order and disorder, thus providing an ideal platform for studying a wealth of physical phenomena. This thesis contains three experimental works that my colleagues and I achieved during my PhD period, in which we explored the properties of quasicrystals in many aspects. The first experiment (Chapter 5) focus on the long-range order in quasicrystals. We report on the first experimental realisation of a two-dimensional (2D) quasicrystalline optical lattice for ultracold atoms and conduct matter-wave diffraction experiment using shot, intense lattice pulses. We reveal the different diffraction dynamics between periodic and quasiperiodic lattices and demonstrate the capability to simulate quantum walks on four-dimensional tight-binding lattices using the diffraction dynamics of 2D quasicrystalline lattices on short timescales. The second (Chapter 6) and the third (Chapter 7) experiments concentrate on studying the disorder nature of quasicrystals. In particular, we investigate disorder-induced localisation transition in the ground state of non-interacting and weakly interacting Bose gases in a 2D quasicrystalline lattice. The second experiment is mainly performed in the non-interacting limit, in which we probe the localisation transition by employing triangular lattice pulses and studying the time scale required for adiabatic loading. We observe a localisation transition at around a critical lattice depth of Vloc ≈ 1.78 Erec for noninteracting systems. In addition, we demonstrate that weak repulsive interactions can shift transition to deeper lattices. In the third experiment, we further study the interplay between the interactions and disorder, and constitute the first experimental realisation of the 2D Bose glass, an insulating but compressible groundstate phase without long-range phase coherence. By probing the coherent properties of the system, we observe a Bose glass to superfluid transition and map out the phase diagram in the weakly interacting regime. Moreover, we reveal the non-ergodic nature of the Bose glass by probing the capability of restoring coherence. Our observations are in good agreement with recent quantum Monte Carlo predictions and pave the way for experimentally testing of the connection between the Bose glass and many-body localisation.

Background Evidence suggests a vicious cycle between rice cultivation and malaria control in Rwanda. Rice fields offer an attractive breeding ground for malaria vectors, which increases the disease burden in rice farming communities, and, consequently, reduces productivity in the rice sector. Community-based larval source management in rice fields is propagated as a sustainable solution to break this cycle. A sense of agency and ownership of malaria control interventions, as well as the mobilization of resources at the local level, are often considered preconditions for success. However, an evidence gap exists regarding the interaction between the agentive and financial dimension of local sustainability. Methods We conduct a larviciding pilot involving three groups; one group where rice farmers sprayed their fields under expert supervision, one group where rice farmers organised the larviciding campaign themselves, and a (non-sprayed) control group. We test whether the difference in agency between the intervention groups affects farmers’ willingness-to-pay for a larviciding campaign. Willingness-to-pay is elicited in a contingent valuation exercise, more specifically a bidding game, and is assessed both before and after the pilot (n = 288). Difference-in-difference estimates are computed, using a propensity score matching technique. Supplementary data were collected in a survey and two focus group discussions for triangulation. Results The high-agency (self-organised) group significantly outperforms the low-agency (expert-supervised) group in terms of maintaining its willingness to contribute financially. However, higher willingness-to-pay in the high-agency group does not appear to be driven by a stronger sense of ownership per se. The supplementary data indicate high levels of ownership in both treatment groups compared to the control group. A tentative explanation lies in diverging perceptions concerning the effectiveness of the pilot. Conclusions The study supports the idea that community-led organization of larval source management can prove instrumental in mobilizing finance for malaria control in low-income settings where rice production interferes with the fight against malaria. However, the causality is complex. Feelings of ownership do not appear the main driver of willingness-to-pay, at least not directly, which opens up the possibility of initiating community-driven malaria control interventions that promote the agentive and financial dimension of local sustainability simultaneously.

The paper presents a novel family of strain-based beam finite elements (FE) for analysis of tensile failure of a reinforced concrete bar (RC bar), with results of the analysis being independent of the applied FE mesh. The composite bar consists of a continuous longitudinal ductile reinforcing bar(s) surrounded by brittle concrete cover, which are considered separately in the model. Longitudinal slip at the contact between the concrete cover and reinforcing bars is allowed, while their relative displacements perpendicular to the axis of the RC bar are prevented. Cracks in concrete cover occur when tensile stress in concrete exceeds its tensile strength. Propagation of partially connected crack, that is, softening of the material at the crack, is described through constitutive law in form of nonlinear relationship between stresses in concrete at the crack and the width of the crack. Each separate crack is considered discretely as a discontinuity in geometry of the element. In the analysis of cracking of concrete, it is commonly assumed that the discrete crack can occur at the nodes of FE only. However, this assumption leads to dependence of the analysis results on the employed FE mesh. The presented family of FE enables occurrence of the crack anywhere along the FE. In order to achieve this, the discrete crack is excluded from equations of FE and additional boundary conditions are introduced at the discontinuity. This approach ensures that the location of the cracks, their number and their propagation are independent of the applied FE mesh. Advantages of the novel family of FE are thoroughly presented in a parametric study which investigates influence of number of FE as well as influence of degrees of interpolation and integration on the cracking of RC bar under tensile loading. Experimental results of tensile tests on the analysed bar are available in literature. It can be concluded that the results obtained with the minimal possible number of novel FE and sufficiently high degree of numerical integration scheme, applied for solving integrals in equations of FE, are considerably more accurate than the results of previous analyses with model of discrete crack at the nodes of FE only.

In this paper, we present an overview of Nearest neighbour (NN) methods, which are frequently employed for solving classification problems using supervised learning. The article concisely introduces the theoretical background, algorithmic, and implementation aspects along with the key applications. From an application standpoint, this article explores the challenges related to the 5G and beyond wireless networks which can be solved using NN classification techniques.

Education in the 21st century must have a vision that will support and empower teachers to face the demands of the digital age. The use of information communication technology (ICT) in education can serve this end but ensuring access to digital resources will not address the digital disparity. Culture and language play an equally important role in exacerbating and maintaining the digital disparity as the traditional factor of access. In the study reported on here we investigated the experiences and attitudes of Setswana-speaking teachers in 3 primary schools in the North West province, South Africa, as they were exposed to online software in Setswana, an indigenous African language. Purposive sampling was used to select 7 teachers for the study. Two research questions were answered using systematic self-observation (SSO) instruments, the participant observation (PO) instrument and the in-depth interview (IDI) instrument to determine the experiences and attitudes of the teachers. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the interview data. It was found that accuracy of translation was key for adopting and using software in an African language. The teachers felt that English was the language of ICT and that African languages were not intellectual languages and did not have the capacity to be used in ICT. It is, therefore, recommended that more must be done to translate software into African languages and an effort must be made to raise the status of African languages in academic and technical fields.

Nanoscale wireless networks are expected to revolutionize a variety of domains, with significant advances conceivable in in-body healthcare. In healthcare, these nanonetworks will consist of energy-harvesting nanodevices passively flowing through the bloodstream, taking actions at certain locations, and communicating results to more powerful Body Area Network (BAN) nodes. Assuming such a setup and electromagnetic nanocommunication in the Terahertz (THz) frequencies, we propose a network architecture that can support fine-grained localization of the energy-harvesting in-body nanonodes, as well as their two-way communication with the outside world. The main novelties of our proposal lie in the introduction of location-aware and Wake-up Radio (WuR)-based wireless nanocommunication paradigms, as well as Software-Defined Metamaterials (SDMs), to THz-operating energy-harvesting in-body nanonetworks. We argue that, on a high level, the proposed architecture can handle (and actually benefits from) a large number of nanonodes, while simultaneously dealing with a short range of THz in-body propagation and highly constrained nanonodes., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, 1 table

The Microsoft HoloLens is a head-worn mobile augmented reality device. It allows a real-time 3D mapping of its direct environment and a self-localisation within the acquired 3D data. Both aspects are essential for robustly augmenting the local environment around the user with virtual contents and for the robust interaction of the user with virtual objects. Although not primarily designed as an indoor mapping device, the Microsoft HoloLens has a high potential for an efficient and comfortable mapping of both room-scale and building-scale indoor environments. In this paper, we provide a survey on the capabilities of the Microsoft HoloLens (Version 1) for the efficient 3D mapping and modelling of indoor scenes. More specifically, we focus on its capabilities regarding the localisation (in terms of pose estimation) within indoor environments and the spatial mapping of indoor environments. While the Microsoft HoloLens can certainly not compete in providing highly accurate 3D data like laser scanners, we demonstrate that the acquired data provides sufficient accuracy for a subsequent standard rule-based reconstruction of a semantically enriched and topologically correct model of an indoor scene from the acquired data. Furthermore, we provide a discussion with respect to the robustness of standard handcrafted geometric features extracted from data acquired with the Microsoft HoloLens and typically used for a subsequent learning-based semantic segmentation.

Bounds are obtained for the efficiency or mean to peak ratio $E(\Omega)$ for the first Dirichlet eigenfunction (positive) for open, connected sets $\Omega$ with finite measure in Euclidean space $\R^m$. It is shown that (i) localisation implies vanishing efficiency, (ii) a vanishing upper bound for the efficiency implies localisation, (iii) localisation occurs for the first Dirichlet eigenfunctions for a wide class of elongating bounded, open, convex and planar sets, (iv) if $\Omega_n$ is any quadrilateral with perpendicular diagonals of lengths $1$ and $n$ respectively, then the sequence of first Dirichlet eigenfunctions localises, and $E(\Omega_n)=O\big(n^{-2/3}\log n\big)$. The Turing Way is an open-source community-led guide to reproducible, ethical and inclusive data science. Its goal is to provide all the information that researchers, industry professionals and members of the public need to understand reproducibility and ethical standards in data science at all stages of development. The Turing Way contains chapters with best practices, guidance and recommendations that are crowdsourced, collaboratively documented and used internationally by researchers from across the globe. The Turing Way community currently hosts over 200 sub-chapters across five guides and over 300 direct contributors on GitHub, where we develop our resources that are used by thousands of geographically and culturally diverse users. However, the guide is written in English. This language barrier motivated us to create community-led, multilingual versions of The Turing Way, with the same collaborative spirit that permeates the main guide. The community then started working collaboratively on translations of the Turing Way material to several languages, including Spanish, Arabic and Turkish, while trying out different platforms (such as Transifex and Crowdin). Eventually, we established a workflow in Crowdin for the translation, which is a key step for internationalisation (i18n) of The Turing Way. Localisation (l10n) and internationalisation (i18n) are important aspects in the design of any open-source project or document. Internationalisation allows open-source projects to support and satisfy the needs of multiple locales, thus “enabling” localisation, which is the adaptation of it to meet the language and the culture of a specific target locale. However, translation workflows can often become confusing and inconsistent, and many translation efforts go unfinished for several different reasons. Our aim is to provide clear guidelines, so any potential contributor is able to participate freely while keeping consistency in the translation. We project clear documentation to facilitate the creation of language bridges that connect to diverse audiences. Therefore, we have documented the translation workflows inside the Community Handbook, which is a part of the Turing Way book. It provides information about all our practices within the project, ways of working, and other aspects that can make community participation equitable for all members. We also include language-specific documentation in GitHub written by the target language contributors. By structuring and combining the relevant glossaries available in such languages, we enable community members to translate using standardised terminology consistently. Sharing and documenting our translation journey has proven to be important in reaching out to new members and making their contributions smoother and more accessible., This talk was presented in Write the Docs Prague 2022 Conference

Scoping Review Protocol

Two-sided bounds for the efficiency of the torsion function are obtained in terms of the square of the distance to the boundary function under the hypothesis that the Dirichlet Laplacian satisfies a strong Hardy inequality. Localisation properties of the torsion function are obtained under that hypothesis. An example is analysed in detail.

Wearable and IoT devices requiring positioning and localisation services grow in number exponentially every year. This rapid growth also produces millions of data entries that need to be pre-processed prior to being used in any indoor positioning system to ensure the data quality and provide a high Quality of Service (QoS) to the end-user. In this paper, we offer a novel and straightforward data cleansing algorithm for WLAN fingerprinting radio maps. This algorithm is based on the correlation among fingerprints using the Received Signal Strength (RSS) values and the Access Points (APs)'s identifier. We use those to compute the correlation among all samples in the dataset and remove fingerprints with low level of correlation from the dataset. We evaluated the proposed method on 14 independent publicly-available datasets. As a result, an average of 14% of fingerprints were removed from the datasets. The 2D positioning error was reduced by 2.7% and 3D positioning error by 5.3% with a slight increase in the floor hit rate by 1.2% on average. In this study, the purpose is to provide an efficient and original indoor area localization and presentation via picture and the voice assistance in a museum, using beacon devices based on the Bluetooth Low Energy technology infrastructure and embedded electronic circuit systems. In this context, a localization procedure is carried out via a Bluetooth module and an embedded microcontroller. A hardware as well as a software was developed in order to read the data broadcasted from radio frequency beacons, which support Bluetooth 4.0 technology. By using AT commands and a location identification system as well as a software which is designed and implemented on a microcontroller system detects the nearest beacon, therefore the desired area, based on the ID numbers of beacons and received signal strengths. Using this system, visitor locations can be determined and visitors are provided with visual or audio content based on their distance to the artworks. This study may be a prototype base application for future developments.

In Slovakia there is no tradition of localisation of video games. Foreign countries, however, have much to offer regarding the academic environment and practical outcomes. The Slovak market does not even offer Slovak localisations of video games for children who are entitled to Slovak localisations pursuant to Slovak legislation. Our paper aims to examine the issue of Slovak video game localisation, present the most serious results of our research, and offer goals for future research aimed at specific aspects of localisation of video games for Slovak children and their multimodality.

The case study consists of a building resting on a calcarenite rock formation where two abandoned man-made caves exist directly under the structure. The boundaries of the caves were exposed to a slightly acidic environment inducing time-dependent weathering. Analyses were performed following a semi-decoupled approach, where the weathering process, driven by a reactive transport mechanism, was first solved and its results were fed to the mechanical problem which hence accounted for the spatial and temporal evolution or rock damage. For the mechanical problem, a nonlocal constitutive model was employed for the objective simulation of localised deformations. Relevant outcomes are obtained regarding the evolution of the structure’s stability and about the importance of regularising the finite element solution in the presence of brittle materials.

The usual development of OE [ɑld] in words such asoldin Scots is toauld, reflecting the development of this sequence in northern dialects more generally. But in some Scots dialects other pronunciations of these words, reminiscent of dialects of English south of the Ribble–Humber Line, are found. These forms, of the typeowld, are found across Lowland Scotland, with particular concentrations in the far north and southwest. Origins in Irish English and English in England have been suggested for this feature of Scots but these hypotheses have not been explored. Aitken & Macafee (2002: 61–2) instead argue for an endogenous origin of bothauldandowld, but this proposed double endogenous development of OE [ɑld] is problematic in a number of ways. In this article, I examine the history of these developments in Scots in comparison to their development in dialects of English in England and Ireland. The lack of evidence for theowlddevelopment in Older Scots suggests that these forms are of relatively recent origin. Crucially, theEighteenth-Century English Phonology Database(ECEP) reveals that theowldpronunciations were in fact a feature of early forms of Standard English. Furthermore, several characteristic features of Irish English have spread into southwest Scotland, and the distribution ofowldforms in the area fits this pattern. Thus Scots forms such asowldare not the result of endogenous development, but have their origin in English, in the case of southwest Scotland at least in part from Irish English, and elsewhere in Scotland from early forms of Standard English. Theseowldforms have been ‘localised’ and reinterpreted as ‘Scots’, alongside or replacing originalauld. The analysis of the origins of this feature highlights not only the role of contact with varieties of English in the development of Scots, but also the importance of sources such as the ECEP database for understanding the historical phonology of Scots and English.

Photodiode (PD)-based Visible Light Positioning (VLP)-based localisation systems seem propitious for the low-cost tracking and route-configurable navigation of automated guided vehicles, found in warehouse settings. Delivering the required high accuracy, currently necessitates measuring and fitting the received power - distance relation. This paper shows that accurately modelling the PD receiver & x2019;s angular characteristics obsoletes this calibrating fit, while still providing accurate positioning estimates. A new responsivity model Square (SQ) is proposed, which is a function of the square of the incidence angle rather than its cosine. Both its aptitude in matching real-life propagation and its associated localisation accuracy are verified using two extensive measurement sets, each detailing the propagation of a PD moving across a 2D plane 3 m below a 4-LED plane. SQ is compared to the responsivity and calibration fit models available in the literature. In conjunction with model-based fingerprinting positioning, SQ outscores the Lambertian and generalised Lambertian model in terms of the 90(th) percentile root-mean-square error (rMSE) $p_{90}$ by 45.36 cm (83.1 & x0025;) and 0.84 cm (8.4 & x0025;) respectively for the non-Lambertian-like receiver. $SQ$ exhibits an equivalent performance as the generalised Lambertian model for the Lambertian-like photodiode. Accounting for the appropriate receiver model can also boost trilateration & x2019;s rMSE. A 50(th) percentile rMSE reduction of respectively 1.87 cm and 2.66 cm is found in the setup.

In today's highly competitive global business landscape, customers demand personalised products and responsive distribution systems, hence fuelling the concept of Distributed Manufacturing (DM) as a paradigm that suggests the geographical distribution of manufacturing systems adjacent to the markets enable ‘production on demand’. To this end, the objective of this research is to explore the DM concept to inform firms about the dynamically changing manufacturing environment, along with the emerging opportunities, and support business stakeholders in implementing DM-oriented strategies to achieve digitalisation, personalisation, and localisation. More specifically, the present research builds upon the Dynamic Capability Theory (DCT) and conducts semi-structured interviews with a panel of 16 experts from the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods, Automotive, and Engineering industries to develop 12 exploratory industry cases. Our analysis highlights three strategies that companies can adopt to implement DM and realise shorter lead times and personalised product offerings, namely: (i) small-scale DM; (ii) in-house decoupled manufacturing; and (iii) outsourced decoupled manufacturing. However, the economic viability of the DM concept is identified as a significant barrier to relinquish the traditional centralised economies-of-scale. This research contributes by applying the DCT to the DM concept to advocate the viability and sustainability of manufacturing systems in the era of Industry 4.0. Pertaining to the originality of this research, limited work is available on the applicability of DM in industries, from the DCT perspective, to accomplish competitive advantages in the dynamic environment of manufacturing.

INTRODUCTION[|] Of the ischemic strokes, 25 % involve the posterior circulation ischemic infarcts (POCI) and pontine infarctions account for about 7% of all ischemic strokes. Isolated pontine infarctions are usually classified into two types: paramedian pontine infarcts (PPIs) and small deep pontine infarcts (SDPIs). The main pathogenesis of each of the two types differ. Our study was designed to investigate the main causes of isolated pontine infarctions. [¤]METHODS[|]A retrospective search of the patient database of our institution was performed for a total of 122 patients who were admitted to our neurology clinic between January 2010 and June 2018. Acute ischemic stroke patients, comprising 48 PPI patients and 74 SDPI patients, were enrolled. Routine etiological investigations were performed for each patient, and clinical data were collected.[¤]RESULTS[|]Of the 122 enrolled patients, the most frequent etiological cause of isolated pontine infarction was small vessel disease. There were 48 with PPI and 74 with SDPI patients. Hypertension was the most frequent chronic risk factor with the ratio of 68 %. But there was no significant difference in the prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, dislipidemia, coronary artery disease between patients with PPI and SDPI. In PPI group echocardiography was normal in all patients. In SDPI group 11 patients had abnormal cardioembolic findings and it was significantly important. Also male predominancy was detected in SDPI group and in males cardioembolic echocardiography findings were more prevalent than females.[¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]Cardioembolism may be the major cause of SDPI while basillar artery (BA) atherosclerosis remains the cause of PPI in our study. This information may assist in therapeutic approaches of isolated pontine infarction subtypes.[¤]

Offshore support structures and mooring systems are predominantly subject to corrosion and fatigue. These structures are typically covered with marine growth of various types. Conventional inspection methods for assessment of the structural integrity require access to the cleaned surface of these structures; however, the cleaning process is highly undesirable from the technical, economical, and environmental points of view. This paper highlights research on feasibility assessment of detection and localization of corrosion damage under marine growth using acoustic emission (AE). Experiments were conducted on two carbon steel plates, one baseline sample and one covered with artificially fabricated marine growth. The results of accelerated corrosion experiments suggest that corrosion-induced ultrasound signals can be detected with satisfactory signal-to-noise ratio using non-contact AE sensors. Ultrasound waves passing through marine growth showed around 12 dB drop in amplitude when compared to the base plate. A localization algorithm for corrosion induced-ultrasound signals was successfully implemented.

The article presents the most commonly used multi-criteria analysis methods for choosing the optimal location for future wind parks. The article makes a comparison of the criteria and restrictions of localisation and an overview of the main legal constraints and prospects in the development of renewable energy sources (RES). Financial assistance from the EU to accelerate the achievement of the required indicators was described. Moreover, restrictions considering environmental, social and noise factors that affect the life of the local population and the perception of the landscape visually are important. Additionally, it includes an option for developing wind energy in the absence of the necessary space for construction. In a new approach for the location of the wind farm, to the investors and another researcher related to the topic of wind turbine foundations, we indicate the most important aspects of wind energy control that should be taken into account in wind farm location proceedings.

Shanghai’s modern architectural heritage in the 19th and early 20th centuries is an essential aspect of modern Chinese architectural history because of its outstanding characteristics and well-preserved conditions. Modern Shanghai architecture was transformed by the importation of Western structural technologies and materials in addition to their forms and institutions. After 100 years of development since 1843, there were over 100 important buildings in the Bund area by 1943. These buildings were built in different periods using the best available structural technologies. This study focuses on the technological dimension of modern Shanghai architecture. Based on an architectural survey and a literature investigation of the Bund buildings, this study explores the evolution of modern structural technologies in Shanghai by analysing the Bund buildings’ key structural factors. The influences of the localisation and implementation of Western architecture’s building technologies in Shanghai were also analysed, including time of importation, characteristics and integration of local craftsmanship and materials. This study focuses on the method and analyses of architectural technology history from not only technological and historical perspectives, but also a social sciences perspective.

Predicting the response of gas turbine blades with underplatform friction dampers is challenging due to the combination of frictional nonlinearity and system uncertainty: a traditional Monte Carlo approach to predicting response distributions requires a large number of nonlinear simulations which is computationally expensive. This paper presents a new approach based on the principle of Maximum Entropy that provides an estimate of the response distribution that is approximately two orders of magnitude faster than Monte Carlo Harmonic Balance Method simulations. The premise is to include the concept of `computational uncertainty': incorporating lack of knowledge of the solution as part of the uncertainty, on the basis that there are diminishing returns in computing precise solutions to an uncertain system. To achieve this, the method uses a describing function approximation of the friction-damped part of the system; chooses an ignorance prior probability density function for the complex value of the describing function based on Coulombs friction law; updates the distribution using an estimate of the mean solution, the admissible domain of solutions, and the principle of Maximum Entropy; then carries out a linear Monte Carlo simulation to estimate the response distribution. The approach is validated by comparison with HBM simulations and experimental tests, using an idealised academic system consisting of a periodic array of beams (with controllable uncertainty) coupled by single-point friction dampers. Comparisons with two- and eight-blade systems show generally good agreement. Predicting the response statistics of the maximum blade amplitude reveals specific well-understood circumstances when the method is less effective. Predictions of the overall blade response statistics agree with Monte Carlo HBM extremely well across a wide range of excitation amplitudes and uncertainty levels. Critically, experimental comparisons reveal the care that is needed in accurately characterising uncertainty in order to obtain agreement of response percentiles. The new method allowed fast iteration of uncertainty parameters and correlations to achieve good agreement, which would not have been possible using traditional methods.

According to the evolution tendency of the control decision process from a trackside to a train-borne system, various autonomous localization units for railway vehicles were developed. As recommended in railway standards, the design process of each system, here the autonomous localization units (LU), follows the V-model whose first step is to define its availability requirement in order to satisfy the global ETCS system requirements. The classical approach for assigning the subsystem availability is based on the assumption that failure parameters of other units are precisely known. This assumption is too restricted in reality due to the lack of information. In this paper, we propose a new approach that allows taking into account uncertainties in the dependability parameters of the ETCS components for identifying the upper threshold of the LU unavailability to reach ETCS availability requirements. Using fuzzy fault trees, the fuzzy unavailability of the ETCS without the autonomous LU is evaluated. Then, based on its membership function, we assess the satisfaction rate that an advanced ETCS with the autonomous LU can satisfy the ETCS availability target.

Sorghum is an important source of dietary iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) in parts of Africa and India, but there is a need to increase their concentrations to meet dietary requirements. Grains of a genetically biofortified sorghum line (Parbhani Shakti) had higher concentrations of Fe and Zn than a control line (M35-1). Analysis at the tissue level by histochemical staining and at the cellular level using NanoSIMS showed that both minerals are concentrated in the aleurone layer and in the scutellum of the embryo, with Zn also being concentrated in the embryonic axis. However, NanoSIMS showed that “hot spots” of 56Fe+ and 64Zn+ were also present in the sub-aleurone and starchy endosperm cells. Most of these hot spots also contained 31P16O+ indicating that the Fe and Zn are present as phytates, as in the aleurone and scutellum cells. Low concentrations of 56Fe+ and 64Zn+ were also observed in the protein matrix of these cells.

Wire-guided localisation (WGL) has been the mainstay for localising non-palpable breast lesions before excision. Due to its limitations, various wireless alternatives have been developed. In this prospective study, we evaluate the role of radiation-free wireless localisation using the SAVI SCOUT® system at the London Breast Institute. A total of 72 reflectors were deployed in 67 consecutive patients undergoing breast conserving surgery for non-palpable breast lesions. The mean interval between deployment and surgery for the therapeutic cases was 18.8 days (range: 0–210). The median deployment duration was 5 min (range: 1–15 min). The mean distance from the lesion was 1.1 mm (median distance: 0, range: 0–20 mm). The rate of surgical localisation and retrieval of the reflector was 98.6% and 100%, respectively. The median operating time was 28 min (range: 15–55 min) for the therapeutic excision of malignancy and 17 min (range: 15–24) for diagnostic excision. The incidence of reflector migration was 0%. Radial margin positivity in malignant cases was 7%. The median weight for malignant lesions was 19.6 g (range: 3.5–70 g). Radiologists and surgeons rated the system higher than WGL (93.7% and 98.6%, respectively, 60/64 and 70/71). The patient mean satisfaction score was 9.7/10 (n = 47, median = 10, range: 7–10). One instance of signal failure was reported. In patients who had breast MRI after the deployment of the reflector, the MRI void signal was &lt, 5 mm (n = 6). There was no specific technique-related surgical complication. Our study demonstrates that wire-free localisation using SAVI SCOUT® is an effective and time-efficient alternative to WGL with excellent physician and patient acceptance.

We consider a mobile robot localising itself through a set of UWB wireless anchors. We show how the use of an appropriate localisation algorithm allows for an analytical estimate of the localisation uncertainty. This information is used to build a potential-based motion planning algorithm that drives the robot along trajectories, while achieving a good tradeoff between moving toward the goal and keeping localisation uncertainty reasonably low.

Background: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic brought unprecedented changes leading to ‘business unusual’ in all facets of life and livelihood on a global scale. The restrictions on gathering, social distancing and lockdown measures necessitated by the need to curtail its spread, had, and still have an enormous impact on the educational sector as indeed all spheres of life. These measures implied a change in the traditional modus operandi of curriculum and delivery options for educational institutions in South Africa in the bid to continue academic sessions. Hence, a transition of educational institutions from physical interactions to virtual meetings and the need to evolve curriculum contents and delivery. Aim: With the peculiarity of the South African socioeconomic and political space, this article assessed the viability of curriculum change and delivery options (e-teaching and learning) for both students and instructors in the higher institution and the varied implications. It drew from discourses around the theory of localisation within educative context to create a more student-centred approach especially with the situation of less physical contact. Setting: The discourse is set within the South African educational space. Method: Considering the novelty of Covid-19 research and the challenge of contact, the study adopted a participatory action desktop research method to collect and analyse secondary data. The article vividly discussed how institutions transitioned to a localisation of frameworks and policies to ensure successful academic sessions. Results: The educational landscape in South Africa is still plagued with historical antecedents of social injustice, funding, and resource allocation as well as the ever-present pressure of making education affordable to majority of local students. Also, the weakness of the online teaching methods to the physical contact method for learners and practitioners could be summed up into the issues of connectivity, technical knowledge, and attention span. Conclusion: The conclusion enumerated the need for the implementation of policies and frameworks on proper utilisation of online systems to adjust to the demands of less contact-based approaches in favour of virtual approaches. The study called for adequate consideration to issues around the localisation of teaching and learning techniques considering the peculiarities of South Africa with focus on the opportunities, feasibility, and challenges of online measures especially for those in economically disadvantaged spaces.

Purpose The study aimed to evaluate audiological benefits, quality of hearing and safety of two Bonebridge generation: BCI601 and BCI602 (MED-EL, Innsbruck, Austria) in children. Methods Twelve children were implanted: five BCI601 and seven BCI602 comprising of ten conductive hearing loss, and two single sided deaf SSD subjects. Audiological outcomes tested were sound field audiometry, functional gain, speech recognition threshold (SRT50), speech recognition in noise (SPRINT) and localisation abilities. Subjective measures were Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale (SSQ12). Results The mean FG with the BCI601 was 25.0 dB and with the BCI602 28.0 dB. The benefit in SRT50 was 23.2 dB and 33.8 dB, respectively. The mean benefit in SPRINT was 15% and 6.7% and the localisation ability improved from 33.3° to 16° and from 26.2° to 17.6°, respectively. The two SSD subjects reported a FG of 17 dB, a benefit in SRT50 of 22.5 and a benefit in SPRINT of 20%. Subjective outcomes improved significantly and even exceeded the values of their age-and sex matched normal hearing peers. One revision was reported: a retroauricular emphysema above the implant occurred 12 months post-OP, it was resolved operatively with the implant still being functional. Conclusion The pediatric cohort reports significant audiological benefit, even exceeding that of the age- and sex matched control. The combination of the high safety and audiological benefit makes the Bonebridge a comfortable and effective option in hearing rehabilitation in children.

Social media play an important role in the daily life of people around the globe and users have emerged as an active part of news distribution as well as production. The threatening pandemic of COVID-19 has been the lead subject in online discussions and posts, resulting to large amounts of related social media data, which can be utilised to reinforce the crisis management in several ways. Towards this direction, we propose a novel framework to collect, analyse, and visualise Twitter posts, which has been tailored to specifically monitor the virus spread in severely affected Italy. We present and evaluate a deep learning localisation technique that geotags posts based on the locations mentioned in their text, a face detection algorithm to estimate the number of people appearing in posted images, and a community detection approach to identify communities of Twitter users. Moreover, we propose further analysis of the collected posts to predict their reliability and to detect trending topics and events. Finally, we demonstrate an online platform that comprises an interactive map to display and filter analysed posts, utilising the outcome of the localisation technique, and a visual analytics dashboard that visualises the results of the topic, community, and event detection methodologies.

The article broadly examines how humanitarian aid for Rohingya refugees inadvertently harmed poorer hosts and adversely affected local capacities for peace. The article also discusses possible ways of easing tension and improving social cohesion in the refugee-hosting areas, while also highlighting how policy- and mandate-related constraints hinder a humanitarian response anchored in the "Do No Harm" principle. Finally, the article concludes with the argument that the humanitarian agencies should not just limit themselves to identifying the unintended consequences and lapses in the intervention. Instead, the Do No Harm principle should lead humanitarian aid agencies to make an active effort to accept responsibility for the harm while taking all necessary steps to mitigate or avoid harming in future interventions.

GNSS are widely used in localization applications. These systems have the advantage of being able to locate, at low-cost, receivers anywhere on the planet's surface without prior knowledge of the position. However, the accuracy of the provided position strongly depends on the quality of reception and on the number of signals received. And these depend on the environment around the receiver. Indeed, certain environments such as urban canyons or forests are known to be challenging because multiple phenomena such as multipath, Non-Light Of Sight (NLOS), or interference are common there. These phenomena induce an erroneous estimate of the position. In applications where the localization function does not constitute a critical function involving the safety of the overall system, this erroneous estimate only constitutes an inconvenience. But in applications for which the safety of goods or people is at stake, the tolerance of what is called the integrity risk is infinitesimal, not to say null. Moreover, in this type of application, it is not so much the position that matters but the ability to limit the unknown position error. For that, the literature proposes different possibilities of protection level calculation. The ideal protection level would be the one that limits the unknown error as closely as possible without ever underestimating it. This makes it possible to minimize hazardous operations as well as unavailability of the localization function. In this paper, we are interested in the impact of GNSS observation weighting models on the protection levels. We propose a model capable of carrying a multi-criteria and multi-parametric strategy allowing a better adaptivity to the navigation context. The encouraging experimental results show that a parametric and constrained modelling strategy of errors, from the design step, relaxes the requirements on the calculation of the protection levels. They also show the complementarity between the characterization of errors which must be concerned with the functional behaviour and a Fault Detection and Exclusion layer which is responsible for the dysfunctional behaviour.
