Purpose: To evaluate the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) on cognitive impairment after aneurysm subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Methods: The current study was carried out in a regional neurosurgical center in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province of China from January 2019 to September 2020. A total of 150 patients with persistent cognitive dysfunction at 3 months after aSAH onset were enrolled, which were randomly classified into group A (HBOT) and group B (control) via the random number table method. The outcome was evaluated by Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA). Results: There were no significant differences between group A and group B with regard to MoCA score and proportions of normal MoCA patients at 3 months after HBOT (p > 0.05). Both groups showed no significant differences in proportions of normal MoCA patients at 6 months after HBOT (p > 0.05). However, there were significant differences between group A and group B with MoCA score of patients at 6 months after HBOT (p < 0.05). There were also significant differences in MoCA score and proportions of normal MoCA patients at 9 months after HBOT. Conclusion: HBOT alleviates cognitive impairment after aSAH, and thus may be used to manage cognitive impairment in patients after aSAH. However, further clinical trials are required prior to application in clinical practice.

Background: To develop an artificial intelligence system that can accurately identify acute non-traumatic intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) etiology based on non-contrast CT (NCCT) scans and investigate whether clinicians can benefit from it in a diagnostic setting. Materials and Methods: The deep learning model was developed with 1868 eligible NCCT scans with non-traumatic ICH collected between January 2011 and April 2018. We tested the model on two independent datasets (TT200 and SD 98) collected after April 2018. The model's diagnostic performance was compared with clinicians's performance. We further designed a simulated study to compare the clinicians's performance with and without the deep learning system augmentation. Results: The proposed deep learning system achieved area under the receiver operating curve of 0.986 (95% CI 0.967-1.000) on aneurysms, 0.952 (0.917-0.987) on hypertensive hemorrhage, 0.950 (0.860-1.000) on arteriovenous malformation (AVM), 0.749 (0.586-0.912) on Moyamoya disease (MMD), 0.837 (0.704-0.969) on cavernous malformation (CM), and 0.839 (0.722-0.959) on other causes in TT200 dataset. Given a 90% specificity level, the sensitivities of our model were 97.1% and 90.9% for aneurysm and AVM diagnosis, respectively. The model also shows an impressive generalizability in an independent dataset SD98. The clinicians achieve significant improvements in the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of diagnoses of certain hemorrhage etiologies with proposed system augmentation. Conclusions: The proposed deep learning algorithms can be an effective tool for early identification of hemorrhage etiologies based on NCCT scans. It may also provide more information for clinicians for triage and further imaging examination selection.

The competitive adsorption of Co(II) and Th(IV) on carbon nanofibers (CNFs) was investigated by batch and spectroscopic techniques. The batch experiments indicated that the adsorption of Co(II) and Th(IV) on CNFs at single- and bi-solute system decreased with increasing ionic strength at pH 2.0–5.0, whereas the competitive adsorption of Co(II) and Th(IV) was independent of ionic strength at pH > 7.0. However, the decreased extent of Th(IV) adsorption on CNFs was significantly higher than that of Co(II) adsorption at bi-solute systems, indicating that CNFs displayed the stronger chemical affinity for Co(II) compared to Th(IV). The maximum adsorption capacities of CNFs for Co(II) and Th(IV) at single-solute systems were 66.23 and 37.17 mg/g at pH 3.5 and 293 K, respectively. The results of surface complexation modeling, the competitive adsorption of Co(II) and Th(IV) on the CNFs was mainly outer-sphere and inner-sphere surface complexation at pH 5.0, respectively. These findings indicated that CNFs can be used as a promising adsorbent for the high effective enrichments and immobilization of radionuclides in the environmental cleanup.

The biosorption of Eu(III) and U(VI) on Bacillus subtilis ( B. subtilis ) as a function of reaction time, pH, ionic strength, temperature was investigated by macroscopic and modeling techniques. The macroscopic experiments indicated that the biosorption kinetics and isotherms of Eu(III) and U(VI) on B. subtilis can be satisfactorily fitted by pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir model, respectively. No effect of ionic strength revealed that the inner-sphere surface complexation dominated the biosorption of Eu(III) and U(VI) onto B. subtilis . The maximum sorption capacity of B. subtilis calculated from Langmuir model at pH 4.5 and 298 K was 58.80 and 90.91 mg/g for Eu(III) and U(VI), respectively. According to the surface complexation modeling, the biosorption of Eu(III) and U(VI) on B. subtilis can be simulated by diffuse layer modeling with three inner-sphere surface complexation sites such as phosphoryl, carboxyl and hydroxyl groups. The findings presented herein suggested that B. subtilis is a promising bio-adsorbent for the preconcentration and retardation of radionuclides in the environmental remediation strategy such as permeable reactive barrier.

The sulfonated graphene oxide (GO-OSO 3 H) was synthesized by the oxidation of GO under concentrated H 2 SO 4 conditions. It is demonstrated based on characterization results that sulfonated groups was satisfactorily grafted on the surface of GO. Macroscopic investigation indicated that the adsorption of Eu(III) on GO-OSO 3 H can be better fitted by pseudo-second-order kinetic model with high correlation coefficient (R 2 > 0.999) compared to pseudo-first-order kinetic model (R 2 3 H was independent of ionic strength, revealing that inner-sphere surface complexation dominated the Eu(III) adsorption at pH from 2.0 to 11.0. The maximum adsorption capacity of GO-OSO 3 H for Eu(III) calculated from Langmuir model was 125.0 mg/g at pH 5.5 and T = 293 K conditions. The calculation of thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption of Eu(III) on GO-OSO 3 H was an exothermal and spontaneous processes. According to fitting of surface complexation modeling, the adsorption of Eu(III) on GO-OSO 3 H can be satisfactorily simulated by diffuse layer model with monodentate and mononuclear complexes (SOEu 2 + species) and bidentate and mononuclear complexes ((SO) 2 Eu (OH) 3 − species) at pH 2.0–11.0 conditions.

Tumoral calcinosis is a rare disorder characterized by tumor-like calcified masses commonly occurring in the periarticular regions of the extremities. Conversely, intradural tumoral calcinosis of the spine is extremely rare, with only two previously reported cases. To our knowledge, this is the first intradural case located in the foramen magnum region.

We put forward a new theoretical model of crosstalk in optical switching integrated chips, dependent on insertion loss and switch routing states. The theoretical model is verified by the 40Gb/s DQPSK experiment. The crosstalk range for the 16×16 Benes-type optical switching chips is calculated.
