Background: Esophageal carcinoma (ESCA) is one of the most prevalent malignant tumors in the world. The prognosis of patients has significantly improved with the development of surgery, targeted therapy and immunotherapy. But the 5-year survival rate of ESCA patients is still incredibly low. Cuproptosis is a type of mitochondrial cell death induced by copper. It is unclear how cuproptosis-related lncRNAs (CRLs) affect ESCA prognosis.Methods: In this study, we obtained the clinical data of ESCA patients, the transcriptome data from TCGA and identified CRLs by co-expression analysis, lasso regression, and cox regression analysis, to build a prognostic model. Then we validated the prognostic model using the Kaplan-Meier curve, cox regression analysis, and ROC, to create a nomogram based on risk score to forecast the prognosis of ESCA. Next, the immune escape of the CRLs was examined using the TIDE algorithm to assess its sensitivity to possible ESCA medications.Results: To predict the prognosis of ESCA patients, we created a predictive model using 6 CRLs (AC034199.1, AC125437.1, AC107032.2, CTBP1-DT, AL024508.1, and AC008610.1), validated by the Kaplan-Meier and ROC curves. The model has a higher diagnostic value compared to other clinical features. The 6 CRLs expressed high in TCGA and ESCA specimens. Enrichment analysis revealed CRLs largely contributed to the interaction between cytokines and their receptors as well as complement coagulation cascades. The immunity escape analysis demonstrated that immunotherapy had a worse effect in the low-risk group than in the high-risk group. Additionally, we screened out potential antineoplastic drugs according to the results of the immunoassay and obtained 5 drugs, including CP-466722, crizotinib, MS-275, KIN001-135, and CP-466722.Conclusion: The prognosis of patients with ESCA can be correctly predicted by the 6 CRLs chosen from this investigation. It lays the groundwork for more investigation into the ESCA mechanism and the identification of novel therapeutic targets.

Age-related alteration of mitochondria causes impaired cardiac function, along with cellular and molecular changes. Polyamines can extend the life span in mice. However, whether polyamines can affect the dynamic mitochondrial proteome, thereby preventing age-related changes in cardiac function and cardiac aging, remains unclear. In this study, we found that spermine (Spm) and spermidine (Spd) injection for 6 weeks could prevent 24-month-old rats heart dysfunction, improve mitochondrial function, and downregulate apoptosis. Using iTRAQ tools, we identify 75 mitochondrial proteins of statistically significant alteration in aging hearts, which mainly participate in important mitochondrial physiological activity, such as metabolism, translation, transport, apoptosis, and oxidative phosphorylation. Moreover, four proteins of differential expression, pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase (PDK4), trifunctional enzyme subunit alpha (HADHA), nicotinamide nucleotide transhydrogenase (NNT), and Annexin6, which were significantly associated with heart aging, were validated by Western blotting. In vitro, we further demonstrated polyamines could retard cardiomyocytes aging through downregulating the expression of PDK4 and thereby inhibiting cell apoptosis. In summary, the distinct mitochondrial proteins identified in this study suggested some candidates involved in the anti-aging of the heart after polyamines treatment, and PDK4 may provide molecular clues for polyamines to inhibit apoptosis and thus retard aging-induced cardiac dysfunction.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface has attracted the attention of academia and industry as soon as it appears because it can flexibly manipulate the electromagnetic characteristics of wireless channel. Especially in the past one or two years, RIS has been developing rapidly in academic research and industry promotion and is one of the key candidate technologies for 5G-Advanced and 6G networks. RIS can build a smart radio environment through its ability to regulate radio wave transmission in a flexible way. The introduction of RIS may create a new network paradigm, which brings new possibilities to the future network, but also leads to many new challenges in the technological and engineering applications. This paper first introduces the main aspects of RIS enabled wireless communication network from a new perspective, and then focuses on the key challenges faced by the introduction of RIS. The standard development of 5G wireless communication culminated between 2017 and 2019, followed by the worldwide deployment of 5G networks, which is expected to result in very high data rate for enhanced mobile broadband, support ultra-reliable and low-latency services and accommodate massive number of connections. Research attention is shifting to future generation of wireless communications, for instance, beyond 5G or 6G. Unlike previous papers, which discussed the use cases, deployment scenarios, or new network architectures of 6G in depth, this paper focuses on a few potential technologies for 6G wireless communications, all of which represent certain fundamental breakthrough at the physical layer-technical hardcore of any new generation of wireless communications. Some of them, such as holographic radio, terahertz communication, large intelligent surface, and orbital angular momentum, are of revolutionary nature and many related studies are still at their scientific exploration stage. It is imperative to explore a type of automatic long-term fixed-point displacement monitoring technology with low cost and high precision in the current monitoring system of dam and slope. The new system obtains information of slope stability through mutual transformation of photoelectric signals which are magnified by a telescope, and it is of strengths of accuracy, timeliness and low cost compared to conventional monitoring instruments, through remote wireless monitoring. In addition, it can also be used to measure the vibration parameters of slope during the blasting. According to the testing and field observations, it has been verified that the system monitored well, without site operations. Therefore, the system may be applied to automatic static and dynamic displacement monitoring for both long-term and short-term without wiring and operations.

In this paper, stability of the convergence point in Siro-spinning composite area and control of tension compensator (TC) to the unstable motion of the convergence point in Sirofil spinning were kinetically studied. The control effect was compared with corresponding experiments. It is concluded that the adoption of TC can greatly improve the stability of the system, apparently reduce the vibration of the convergence point, and simultaneously reduce the hairiness of Sirofil composite yarn and improve the property of abrasion-resistance enormously.

Five experiments were conducted to test the performance of adult mandarin voles (Microtus mandarinus) in discriminating and preferring siblings versus nonsiblings raised in different conditions. The results indicate that adult males and estrous females displayed a significant preference for individuals raised by other parents over those raised by the same parent, regardless of genetic relatedness. The effect appears to depend on the presence of siblings during development. This shows that familiarity through association before weaning plays an important role in kin recognition. The preference of reproductively active mandarin voles for unfamiliar voles is interpreted as inbreeding avoidance. Although Wilcoxon's matched-pair tests showed no significant preferences of adult mandarin voles for siblings over nonsiblings raised by the same parents or by other parents, mean durations of visiting, mounting, and lying near nonsiblings were higher than those for siblings. This implies that genetic relatedness may have some effect on kin recognition, although familiarity is the main mechanism.

Numerical modeling of soil-pile interaction under vertical loading was performed by Particle Flow Code in two dimensions. The numerical simulations show that the change of the soil particle and porosity in which the composite foundation with rammed expanded piles under the different vertical loading, and interpret the pile-soil mechanism that is quantitative analysis. The phenomena and corresponding mechanisms obtained from numerical tests benefit design and implementation of physical model tests.

Purpose: Extranodal natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKL) is rare, it takes longer to make a definite diagnosis when compared with other head and neck malignancy, and its standard therapy has not been well established. To explore a more effective treatment for newly diagnosed stage IV ENKL, we conducted a phase II study of the Cisplatin + Etoposide + Pingyangmycin + Semustine + Prednisone (CEPSP) regimen. Patients and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 21 patients diagnosed with ENKL who were enrolled to our hospital between January 1993 and June 2013. Patients with newly diagnosed stage IV and a performance status of 0 to 2 were eligible. Two cycles of CEPSP chemotherapy via temporal shallow artery intubation were administered as the protocol treatment with little adjustment in individual. The primary endpoints were overall response rate (ORR) and complete remission rate after the protocol treatment. The secondary endpoints were 3-year overall survival, 3-year progression-free survival, and toxicity. Results: A total of 21 eligible patients were enrolled. The median age was 41 years (range, 20 to 69 years), and the male vs female ratio was 13:8. The disease status was newly diagnosed stage IV in 21 patients. The eligibility was revised to include lymphocyte counts of 500/μL or more because the first patient died from myelosuppression. No treatment-related deaths were observed after the revision. The ORR and complete remission rate after two cycles of CEPSP chemotherapy were 86% (92% CI, 61% to 85%) and 63%, respectively. In the 21 patients who completed the protocol treatment, 7 underwent blood component transfusion. The 2-year overall survival rate was 68% (93% CI, 41% to 65%). Grade 4 neutropenia was observed in 89% of the patients. The most common nonhematologic complication was gastrointestinal reaction (58%). Conclusion: CEPSP chemotherapy via temporal shallow artery intubation is an effective treatment for newly diagnosed stage IV ENKL. During the period of treatment, myelosuppression and gastrointestinal reaction should be treated carefully.
