Sulfur dioxide can be eliminated by zinc oxide dust. The process conditions for the direct absorption of sulfur dioxide by the slurry were discussed in this paper. The influence of the variables like the ratio of liquid to liquid, the ratio of liquid to gas, the concentration of SO2 gas, and the gas velocity on the desulfurization efficiency were investigated. The desulfurization effect of using high-efficiency atomizing nozzle is better than that of vortex nozzle. As the solid content of zinc oxide slurry reaches above 45%, the rate of increase of desulfurization efficiency becomes lower, and even a decreasing trend appears at the later stage.

Ag nanoparticles decorated urchin-like SrTiO3 particles were synthesized by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD). The morphology and crystal structures of SrTiO3 and SrTiO3/Ag particles were determined by SEM, TEM, and XRD. The specific surface area of the samples was studied by N2 adsorption/desorption. Finally, the photocatalytic activity of SrTiO3 and SrTiO3/Ag particles was determined by the decomposition of RhB dye. The results indicated that when the ALD deposition cycle was 20, the SrTiO3/Ag composite showed the best photocatalytic performance, which was due to the increased electron/hole separations. Moreover, post-annealing could further increase the photocatalytic activity of SrTiO3/Ag, which could be explained by the increased interaction and decreased charge transfer resistance between SrTiO3 and Ag.

Objective: To explore the influences of Curcumin combined with Cisplatin on proliferation inhibition, apoptosis, invasion and metastasis of human nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells CNE-2 in vitro , and its relationship with TGF-β 1/Smads signaling pathway. Method: The experiment included four groups: the Control group, Curcumin group (10 μmol/L), Cisplatin group (10 μmol/L), Merge group (10 mol/L Curcumin and 10 mol/L Cisplatin). The inhibition of Curcumin combined with Cisplatin on CNE-2 cell proliferation was measured by using MTT assay. Apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry and DAPI staining. The invasion and migration ability of CNE-2 cells were tested by Transwell test and scratch test. The Caspase-3 activity was detected. The expression levels of TGF-β1, Smad2, Smad3, Smad4 and Smad7 in the cells were measured by Western blot. Results: Compared with the control group, the proliferation rate of CNE-2 achieved remarkable decline in the Curcumin group, the Cisplatin group and the merge group (P < 0 05); the apoptosis rate and the Caspase-3 activity were significantly elevated (P < 0 05); the invasion and metastasis ability was obviously reduced (P < 0 05); The merge group had the most significant effect of proliferation inhibition and apoptosis promotion (P < 0 05). In addition, the Curcumin group, cisplatin group and combined group could inhibit the expression of TGF- β1, Smad2/3/4 proteins, and increase the expression of Smad7 proteins with significantly difference (P < 0 05). The regulatory effects of the merge group was the most significant (P < 0 05). Conclusion: Curcumin combined with Cisplatin has a synergistic effect, inhibiting proliferation, inducing apoptosis and inhibiting invasion and metastasis of CNE-2 cells, possibly being related with the down-regulation of TGF-β1/Smads signaling pathway.

The HfCo7 nanoparticles were synthesized by inert gas condensation, and the particle size was controlled by the condensation pressure. The particle morphology, size and size distribution were investigated by TEM. The crystal structure and surface chemical states of the as-synthesized nanoparticles were investigated by XRD and XPS. The magnetic properties were studied by VSM. The results showed that a higher pressure during the condensation resulted in a larger size and size distribution. Moreover, a larger size also resulted in better crystallization, higher magnetization, and increased air stability, which could be attributed to their lower specific surface area.

With the rapid development of oil hydrogenation industry, the development of oil hydrogenation catalyst has also become a research hotspot. In this paper, ultrasound-assisted precipitation technique is used to prepare Ni/Al2O3 catalyst. The effect of ultrasonic output power on catalyst performance is investigated. The prepared catalyst is applied to the hydrogenation reaction of castor oil. It is found that the prepared catalyst shows the best hydrogenation performance when ultrasonic output power, frequency and ultrasonic treatment time are 80 W, 40 kHz and 600 min respectively. It also indicates that ultrasound-assisted precipitation technique can reduce the particle size and increase the specific surface area of Ni/Al2O3 catalyst so that its activity is improved. In addition, six important elements that should be considered in the development of industrial oil refining catalysts are discussed, and the effects of these factors on the catalyst performance are discussed. Finally, new way for improving catalyst performance is given, and the application of some new materials and methods in oil refining is introduced.

The treatment of oily wastewater has drawn much attention due to environmental and human health challenges. Among several techniques and materials developed to mitigate the contamination of oily wastewater, the nanostructured materials for effective adsorption and separation came into the limelight. Owing to their high specific area and nanosized structure, CNTs have demonstrated inclusive utilization as superior materials for selective adsorption. Here, we present molecular origin of oil-water mixture separation by SWCNTs. We used reactive MD simulation to explain scientifically the separation mechanism of considered mixture at molecular scale. It was shown that small hydrocarbons tend to migrate toward the nanotube surface faster than large counterparts do and whole components were adsorbed on the CNT surface up to 0.8 ns of simulation time. This is due to the different hydrophobicity tendency associated with each oil components that has also been addressed by MD simulation. DFT-D3 calculations showed that interaction nature of adsorbed oil molecules onto the nanotube surface was typical for the physisorption. Furthermore, the accuracy of current methods has been validated by experimental and theoretical data. Our simulation findings provide a well-founded understanding for adsorption and separation of oil-water mixture by carbon based nanostructured materials.

The present work reports the preparation of Ni-W-SiC thin films obtained by pulse current (PC) electrodeposition using a watt-type nickel plating solution, which contains SiC nanoparticles (NPs). Effects of the initial SiC NP concentration on the morphology, structure, crystal size, microhardness, and corrosion resistance of the resulting Ni-W-SiC thin films were investigated using by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), microhardness tests, and electrochemical workstation. The results indicated that the surface of Ni-W-SiC films that were treated using 9 g/L SiC NPs had a fine-grained, smooth, and very uniform surface. Incorporating SiC NPs into the Ni-W-SiC thin-film influenced the metal grain sizes and microhardness of the layers. When the concentration of SiC NPs was 9 g/L, the average crystal size was 67 nm, and the microhardness was 881.7 HV. Moreover, the as-obtained film produced with a concentration of 9 g/L SiC had the minimum corrosion current value of 1.5 × 10−3 mA/cm2, which demonstrates its excellent corrosion resistance.

The pattern of micropore with various diameters (0, 0.5, 1.5 and 5 μm) on the surface of single crystal silicon was obtained through laser treatment and then the graphite-like carbon (GLC) film was deposited on these substrates through magnetron sputtering technology. The effect of micropore diameter on tribological performance of GLC film under air and aqueous environments was systematically investigated. The results indicated that the micropore diameter and test environment greatly affected the tribological behavior of GLC film. The friction coefficient (COF) and wear loss of GLC film were significantly improved in aqueous environment compared with in air. This was attributed to the formation of aqueous molecular film, which could obstruct the immediate contact between GLC film and counterpart. Meanwhile, the anti-wear ability of GLC film in aqueous environment strengthened firstly and then weakened as the micropore diameter increased. When the micropore diameter was 1.5 μm, the GLC film displayed the lowest wear rate of 0.32 × 10−8 mm3 Nm−1 in aqueous environment, which was 67.65%, 46.08% and 26.67% lower than the micropore diameters of 0, 0.5 and 5 μm, respectively. This was due to the synergistic effect of surface roughness and lubricant (graphitized particles and aqueous medium) captured by micropores.

The N,N-diethyldithiocarbamate nitrile ethyl (NND) was the nonionic polar collector, and it can synthesize the NND in dimethyl sulfoxide solvent. This method can effectively reduce the reaction intensity and the coefficient of the synthetic risk. The purity of NND which we synthesized is 94.23%, and the yield is 91.06%. UV analysis shows that the characteristic absorption peak wavelength of the NND is 276 nm, and its absorbance is 0.901. Based on the interaction of NND + Mn+(Mn+= Fe3+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Pb2+) and the quantum chemical calculation analysis of the NND and ethyl xanthate, we can conclude that the flotation performance of NND should be better than that of ethyl xanthate.

With the booming development over the past years, geo-parks have achieved impressive progress together with a series of problems. Most importantly, geological tourism is not in prosperity. How to prosper geological tourism and achieve the sustainable development of geo-parks is the top concern of workers engaged in tourism geology in China. This article discusses the problem from the perspective of core competitiveness of geo-parks, particularly from three aspects of subject, object and medium, and puts forward methods to form the core competitiveness.

This chapter discusses peach cultivation in China during the Pre-Qin Dynasty (1100-221 BC), Eastern and Western Han Dynasty (222 BC-220 AD), from Wei-Jin Dynasty to Sui-Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties period (221-960 AD), and Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing Dynasties and Republican period (961-1948 AD). Current status and trends in peach production in China (peach germplasm collection, repositories, evaluation and utilization in China; main peach cultivars, peach production and growing regions in China; rapid development of greenhouse production; peach postharvest management, processing and marketing in China; and problems faced by the Chinese peach industry) are described.
