1. How to effectively manage the refractory coronary thrombus? A systemic mini-review

Abstract

The main management principle for patients with coronary thrombus should be “more removal and less implantation”. Routine thrombus aspiration (TA) is ineffective for intracoronary thrombus or high residual thrombus burden after TA and may result in a refractory coronary thrombus. It is unwise to implant a stent in the vessel with high residual thrombus, which is associated with no-reflow, impaired microvascular perfusion, and consequently worse clinical outcomes. Therefore, increasing the efficiency of TA during percutaneous coronary intervention procedures, especially under some conditions of refractory coronary thrombus, is very important to restore myocardial reperfusion and improve microvascular dysfunction early. In the present work, we aimed to demonstrate the factors that may affect TA efficiency and introduce several highly effective approaches to treat refractory coronary thrombus.

4. Research on multi-moving target location algorithm based on improved TDOA/FDOA

Abstract

Wireless positioning and tracking technology are key technologies in applying wireless sensor networks and have vital research significance and application value. In this paper, in terms of positioning multiple non-coincident dynamic targets, aiming at the problem of low precision and large computational complexity when locating multiple dynamic targets by the two-step least squares algorithm and the constrained total least squares algorithm, an improved constrained total least squares algorithm is proposed. This algorithm fully considers the constraints, introduces the Lagrangian multiplier technology and the quasi-Newton BFGS iterative formula, avoids the calculation of the Hessian matrix, reduces the amount of calculation, and improves the positioning accuracy. Simulation experiments show that when the measurement error and sensor position error are moderate, the ICTLS positioning algorithm has a smaller RMSE than the TSWLS and CTLS positioning algorithms, showing higher positioning accuracy and stronger robustness. Secondly, aiming at the problem that the target is close to the reference node or any coordinate axis causes the positioning error of the traditional positioning algorithm to increase sharply, an optimized two-step least squares algorithm is proposed. This algorithm corrects the defects of the TSWLS algorithm by selecting the reference station and rotating the coordinate system again, and improves the positioning performance of the algorithm while reducing the amount of calculation.

5. Fertile Woodwardia from the middle Eocene of South China and its implications for palaeogeography and palaeoclimate

Abstract

The genus Woodwardia, which together with the genera Anchistea and Lorinseria comprise the subfamily Woodwardioideae of Blechnaceae, has a disjunct distribution across Central and North America, Europe and the temperate to tropical areas of Asia. Fossil records of Woodwardia occur throughout the Paleogene and Neogene of North America, Europe and Asia. However, well-preserved fertile pinna fossils of this genus have not yet been reported in South China. In this paper, a new species, W. changchangensis Naugolnykh et Song, sp. nov. is described from the middle Eocene of the Changchang Basin, Hainan Island, South China. Macromorphological and micromorphological features of the fertile pinna show a straight pinna rachis, alternate, subtriangular pinnules, acute pinnule apices, almost entire or slightly undulate pinnule margins, long-ovoid sori, stalked sporangia and spores with wing-like folds on the surface, which are characterised in detail. Overall, the present fossil is most similar to the extant species Woodwardia japonica, which mostly grows in warm and moist environments. The discovery of this new species from the Changchang Basin of Hainan Island indicates that this genus has been distributed in the low-latitude tropical regions of South China from as early as the middle Eocene. Based on this find, and previous studies of other ferns from the same site, we infer that the climate of the Palaeo-Hainan landscape during deposition of the Changchang Formation was warm and humid, similar to conditions prevailing today across this region.

6. Focusing on your subject: Deep subject-aware image composition recommendation networks

Abstract

Photo composition is one of the most important factors in the aesthetics of photographs. As a popular application, composition recommendation for a photo focusing on a specific subject has been ignored by recent deep-learning-based composition recommendation approaches. In this paper, we propose a subject-aware image composition recommendation method, SAC-Net, which takes an RGB image and a binary subject window mask as input, and returns good compositions as crops containing the subject. Our model first determines candidate scores for all possible coarse cropping windows. The crops with high candidate scores are selected and further refined by regressing their corner points to generate the output recommended cropping windows. The final scores of the refined crops are predicted by a final score regression module. Unlike existing methods that need to preset several cropping windows, our network is able to automatically regress cropping windows with arbitrary aspect ratios and sizes. We propose novel stability losses for maximizing smoothness when changing cropping windows along with view changes. Experimental results show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art methods not only on the subject-aware image composition recommendation task, but also for general purpose composition recommendation. We also have designed a multistage labeling scheme so that a large amount of ranked pairs can be produced economically. We use this scheme to propose the first subject-aware composition dataset SACD, which contains 2777 images, and more than 5 million composition ranked pairs. 7. The era of personalized treatments: Updates on immunotherapy within urothelial of bladder cancer

Abstract

Bladder cancer is a complex disease of the urinary system with high morbidity and mortality. Recently, the introduction of immunotherapies such as immune checkpoint inhibitors (eg, programmed cell death protein 1/programmed death-ligand 1) has proven to be a reliable means of improving survival outcomes, including patients with limited response to conventional treatment. Nevertheless, difficult questions remain in clinical practice, such as how to select appropriate patients for personalized treatment, how to predict and assess therapeutic efficacy in advance, and how to enhance the therapeutic benefits of immunotherapy treatment. These issues require urgent attention. Herein, we describe recent clinical applications of immune checkpoint inhibitors in bladder cancer therapy, examine underlying mechanisms for treatment failure in a subset of patients, and discuss potential approaches to improve their therapeutic effects.

Abstract

Effective drugs with broad spectrum safety profile to all people are highly expected to combat COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2. Here we report that nelfinavir, an FDA approved drug for the treatment of HIV infection, is effective against SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. Preincubation of nelfinavir could inhibit the activity of the main protease of the SARS-CoV-2 (IC50 = 8.26 μM), while its antiviral activity in Vero E6 cells against a clinical isolate of SARS-CoV-2 was determined to be 2.93 μM (EC50). In comparison with vehicle-treated animals, rhesus macaque prophylactically treated with nelfinavir had significantly lower temperature and significantly reduced virus loads in the nasal and anal swabs of the animals. At necropsy, nelfinavir-treated animals had a significant reduction of the viral replication in the lungs by nearly three orders of magnitude. A prospective clinic study with 37 enrolled treatment-naive patients at Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, which were randomized (1:1) to nelfinavir and control groups, showed that the nelfinavir treatment could shorten the duration of viral shedding by 5.5 days (9.0 vs. 14.5 days, P = 0.055) and the duration of fever time by 3.8 days (2.8 vs. 6.6 days, P = 0.014) in mild/moderate COVID-19 patients. The antiviral efficiency and clinical benefits in rhesus macaque model and in COVID-19 patients, together with its well-established good safety profile in almost all ages and during pregnancy, indicated that nelfinavir is a highly promising medication with the potential of preventative effect for the treatment of COVID-19.

12. Are testicular sperms superior to ejaculated sperms in couples with previous ART failure due to high rate of fragmented embryos? A retrospective cohort study

ObjectiveThe aim was to clarify whether using testicular sperm reduces embryo fragmentation and improves cycle outcomes.MethodsFragmented embryo was defined as an embryo in which fragments account for more than one third of the embryonic surface area. High rate of fragmented embryos was defined by a proportion of fragmented embryos higher than 50%. We recruited infertile couples who had undergone at least one ovarian stimulation cycle using ejaculated sperm but failed to conceive due to high rate of fragmented embryos in each previous cycle. After fully informed consent, the couples agreed to obtain testicular sperm by testicular puncture and use testicular sperm for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). The normal fertilization rate, transferable embryo rate, fragmented embryo rate and cycle outcomes were compared between ejaculated sperm group (EJA-sperm group) and testicular sperm group (TESTI-sperm group).ResultsTwenty-two couples who agreed to participate in our study underwent 32 ICSI cycles with ejaculated spermatozoa and 23 ICSI cycles with testicular spermatozoa. Embryo transfers were cancelled in 8 ejaculated cycles and 4 testicular cycles because of no transferable embryos. There were no significant differences in age, normal fertilization rate and high-quality embryo rate between ejaculated and testicular groups. The transferable embryo rate and implantation rate in TESTI-sperm group were significantly higher than those in EJA-sperm group (36.9% vs. 22.0%, p p p ConclusionOur small retrospective cohort study suggests that using testicular sperm may be a recommended option for couples with previous ART failure because of high rate of fragmented embryos. Large samples, multicenter studies or randomized controlled trial (RCT) are needed to further confirm the superiority of testicular sperm.

Abstract

The interactions of kaons (K) and antikaons ($\mathrm{\overline{K}}$) with few nucleons (N) were studied so far using kaonic atom data and measurements of kaon production and interaction yields in nuclei. Some details of the three-body KNN and $\mathrm{\overline{K}}$NN dynamics are still not well understood, mainly due to the overlap with multi-nucleon interactions in nuclei. An alternative method to probe the dynamics of three-body systems with kaons is to study the final state interaction within triplet of particles emitted in pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, which are free from effects due to the presence of bound nucleons. This Letter reports the first femtoscopic study of p$-$p$-$K$^+$ and p$-$p$-$K$^-$ correlations measured in high-multiplicity pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The analysis shows that the measured p$-$p$-$K$^+$ and p$-$p$-$K$^-$ correlation functions can be interpreted in terms of pairwise interactions in the triplets, indicating that the dynamics of such systems is dominated by the two-body interactions without significant contributions from three-body effects or bound states., Comment: 19 pages, 3 captioned figures, authors from page 14, submitted to EPJA, figures at http://alice-publications.web.cern.ch/node/9212

Abstract

Nonlinear planar magnetotransport is ubiquitous in topological HgTe structures, both in tensile (topological insulator) or compressively strained layers (Weyl semimetal phase). We show that the common reason for the nonlinear planar magnetotransport is the presence of tilted Dirac cones combined with the formation of charge puddles. The origin of the tilted Dirac cones is the mix of the Zeeman term due to the in-plane magnetic field and quadratic contributions to the dispersion relation. We develop a network model that mimics transport of tilted Dirac fermions in the landscape of charge puddles. The model captures the essential features of the experimental data. It should be relevant for nonlinear planar magnetotransport in a variety of topological and small band gap materials., Comment: 12 pages, 11 figures, 1 table

Abstract

With the emergence of neural radiance fields (NeRFs), view synthesis quality has reached an unprecedented level. Compared to traditional mesh-based assets, this volumetric representation is more powerful in expressing scene geometry but inevitably suffers from high rendering costs and can hardly be involved in further processes like editing, posing significant difficulties in combination with the existing graphics pipeline. In this paper, we present a hybrid volume-mesh representation, VMesh, which depicts an object with a textured mesh along with an auxiliary sparse volume. VMesh retains the advantages of mesh-based assets, such as efficient rendering, compact storage, and easy editing, while also incorporating the ability to represent subtle geometric structures provided by the volumetric counterpart. VMesh can be obtained from multi-view images of an object and renders at 2K 60FPS on common consumer devices with high fidelity, unleashing new opportunities for real-time immersive applications., Comment: Project page: https://bennyguo.github.io/vmesh/

17. Simulations of momentum correlation functions of light (anti)nuclei in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 39 GeV

Abstract

Momentum correlation functions of light (anti)nuclei formed by the coalescence mechanism of (anti)nucleons are calculated for several central heavy-ion collision systems, namely $_{5}^{10}\textrm{B}+_{5}^{10}\textrm{B}$, $_{8}^{16}\textrm{O}+_{8}^{16}\textrm{O}$, $_{20}^{40}\textrm{Ca}+_{20}^{40}\textrm{Ca}$ as well as $_{79}^{197}\textrm{Au}+_{79}^{197}\textrm{Au}$ in different centralities at center of mass energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 39 GeV within the framework of A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model complemented by the Lednick$\acute{y}$ and Lyuboshitz analytical method. Momentum correlation functions for identical or nonidentical light (anti)nuclei are constructed and analyzed for the above collision systems. The Au + Au results demonstrate that emission of light (anti)nuclei occurs from a source with smaller space extent in more peripheral collisions. The effect of system-size on the momentum correlation functions of identical or nonidentical light (anti)nuclei is also explored by several collision system in central collisions. The results indicate that the emission source-size of light (anti)nuclei pairs deduced from their momentum correlation functions and system-size is self-consistent. Momentum correlation functions of nonidentical light nuclei pairs gated on velocity are applied to infer the average emission sequence of them. The results illustrate that protons are emitted in average on a similar time scale with neutrons but earlier than deuterons or tritons in the small relative momentum region. Abstract

Intestinal epithelial barrier destruction occurs earlier than mucosal immune dysfunction in the acute stage of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infections. At present, however, the cause of compromised gastrointestinal integrity in early SIV infection remains unknown. In the current study, we investigated the effects of SIV infection on epithelial barrier integrity and explored oxidative stress-mediated DNA damage and apoptosis in epithelial cells from early acute SIVmac239-infected Chinese rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta). Results showed that the sensitive molecular marker of small intestinal barrier dysfunction, i.e., intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (IFABP), was significantly increased in plasma at 14 days post-SIV infection. SIV infection induced a profound decrease in the expression of tight junction proteins, including claudin-1, claudin-3, and zonula occludens (ZO)-1, as well as a significant increase in the active form of caspase-3 level in epithelial cells. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis suggested that differentially expressed genes between pre- and post-SIV-infected jejuna were enriched in pathways involved in cell redox homeostasis, oxidoreductase activity, and mitochondria. Indeed, a SIV-mediated increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the epithelium and macrophages, as well as an increase in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and decrease in glutathione (GSH)/glutathione disulfide (GSSG) antioxidant defense, were observed in SIV-infected jejuna. In addition, the accumulation of mitochondrial dysfunction and DNA oxidative damage led to an increase in senescence-associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) and early apoptosis in intestinal epithelial cells. Furthermore, HIV-1 Tat protein-induced epithelial monolayer disruption in HT-29 cells was rescued by antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC). These results indicate that mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in jejunal epithelial cells are primary contributors to gut epithelial barrier disruption in early SIV-infected rhesus macaques.

Abstract

In this work, we carry out a systematic study on the evolution of relative intensity noise (RIN) in a high-power narrow-linewidth fiber laser system based on phase-modulated single-frequency seed laser. The experimental results clarify that enhancement of the RIN mainly occurs when the seed laser gets amplified from low power to medium power. In addition, further power scaling could lead to reduction of the RIN until it reaches saturation on the condition that the transverse mode instability (TMI) effect is effectively suppressed. Apart from the power scaling process, the phase-modulation would also lead to enhancement of the RIN at specific frequencies corresponded to the modulation frequency. More importantly, the contrast experiments reveal that the TMI effect could lead to obvious enhancement of the RIN of the signal laser during amplification well below the TMI threshold defined by the traditional method. Therefore, apart from degeneration of the RIN during amplification, potential enhancement of the RIN induced by the phase-modulation or the TMI effect below its traditional threshold should be carefully considered and controlled to achieve high-power low-noise fiber laser. Overall, our experimental results could provide a well reference for design of high-power low-noise fiber lasers and high-power narrow-linewidth fiber lasers.

Abstract

Infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes diverse clinical manifestations and tissue injuries in multiple organs. However, cellular and molecular understanding of SARS-CoV-2 infection-associated pathology and immune defense features in different organs remains incomplete. Here, we profiled approximately 77 000 single-nucleus transcriptomes of the lung, liver, kidney, and cerebral cortex in rhesus macaques (新型冠状病毒（SARS-CoV-2）感染可以造成多种临床表现和多种器官的组织损伤。但是对于新冠病毒感染相关的病理和免疫防御特征的细胞和分子水平的理解还不完善。该研究中，我们对感染新冠病毒的猕猴及健康对照个体的肺脏、肝脏、肾脏、大脑皮层进行单细胞核转录组测序和分析，共获得了约77 000个单细胞核的转录组数据。多器官数据集整合分析结果表明肝脏具有最强的全局转录改变。我们发现肺脏中的上皮细胞，尤其是AT2细胞和纤毛细胞，存在突出的损伤特征，在成纤维细胞中纤维化迹象明显。肺部的这些损伤特征与新冠肺炎（COVID-19）病人中报道的结果很相似。此外，我们发现肺中的主要组织相容性复合体（MHC）I/II类分子活性下调，肝脏中存在炎症反应和犬尿氨酸通路的激活，它会诱导免疫抑制性微环境的发展。对肾脏数据集的分析发现肾小管上皮细胞对新冠病毒具有更强的趋向性，同时发现了感染猕猴出现了由足细胞失调引起的膜性肾病(一种自身免疫疾病)。另外，我们还识别到了大脑皮层中星形胶质细胞和少突胶质细胞的病理状态，为新冠肺炎相关的神经学影响提供了分子洞察。总之，此项对新冠病毒感染的猕猴模型多器官进行单细胞核转录组研究的工作拓宽了我们对新冠病毒感染造成的疾病特征和机体抗病毒免疫缺陷的理解，这可能促进新冠肺炎治疗干预手段的开发。.

Abstract

Grapheme-to-phoneme (G2P) conversion is an indispensable part of the Chinese Mandarin text-to-speech (TTS) system, and the core of G2P conversion is to solve the problem of polyphone disambiguation, which is to pick up the correct pronunciation for several candidates for a Chinese polyphonic character. In this paper, we propose a Chinese polyphone BERT model to predict the pronunciations of Chinese polyphonic characters. Firstly, we create 741 new Chinese monophonic characters from 354 source Chinese polyphonic characters by pronunciation. Then we get a Chinese polyphone BERT by extending a pre-trained Chinese BERT with 741 new Chinese monophonic characters and adding a corresponding embedding layer for new tokens, which is initialized by the embeddings of source Chinese polyphonic characters. In this way, we can turn the polyphone disambiguation task into a pre-training task of the Chinese polyphone BERT. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model, and the polyphone BERT model obtain 2% (from 92.1% to 94.1%) improvement of average accuracy compared with the BERT-based classifier model, which is the prior state-of-the-art in polyphone disambiguation., Comment: Accepted for INTERSPEECH 2022

Abstract

Compared with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers, Sacubitril/Valsartan has been reported to have superior results. However, the effects of sacubitril/valsartan on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) are still in dispute.This study aims to evaluate the effects of sacubitril/valsartan on the treatment of HFpEF patients.PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Clinicaltrials.gov were used to search for randomised controlled trials of sacubitril/valsartan in HFpEF patients from inception to 7 December 2020.Four studies, with a total of 7739 participants, met the inclusion criteria. The present meta-analysis results showed that compared with the control group, sacubitril/valsartan reduced the hospitalisation rate of HF in HFpEF patients [Risk Ratio(RR): 0.85; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.79-0.93;Our study shows that compared with valsartan or individualised medical therapy (IMT), there were not different between the two groups except for the hospitalisation rate which was favoured by Sacubitril/Valsartan treatment group for HFpEF patients.

Abstract

Abstract

Pneumatic lift train together is the concept of under the background of further accelerate the speed of high-speed train running speed, in order to under higher speed train the whole life cycle cost, the researchers put forward the concept of aerodynamic lift high-speed train together, break through the traditional high-speed train aerodynamic shape design concept, combined with high speed trains and aircraft their respective advantages, hope that through increasing train aerodynamic lift, It is hoped that by increasing the aerodynamic lift of the train, the overall energy saving and consumption reduction of the high-speed train can be achieved. In this paper, a high lift airfoil is optimized to improve the lift coefficient as much as possible while the drag coefficient is basically unchanged. The thickness and drag coefficient of the optimized airfoil are almost unchanged at the designed Angle of attack, and the lift coefficient is increased by 13%. A flat wing is designed based on the optimized airfoil, and the influence of wall effect and tandem wing layout on the lift drag coefficient of the wing is studied. A better aerodynamic lift cooperative train tandem wing layout is obtained, which can reduce the weight of a single train by 17%.

Abstract

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) causes quite a few blindness worldwide, which can be refrained by the timely diagnosis on retinal images. Recently, researches on deep learning-based retinal image classification have accelerated outstanding improvements in DR grading task. However, existing DR grading works are mostly limited to a supervised manner. They require accurately annotated data labeled by professional experts, and the annotating work is very laborious and time-consuming. We propose a Semi-supervised Auto-encoder Graph Network (SAGN) for the challenging DR diagnosis to relax this constraint. Precisely, SAGN consists of three major modules: auto-encoder feature learning, neighbor correlation mining, and graph representation. Firstly, our model learns to extract representations from retinal images and reconstruct them as close to original inputs as possible. Then neighbor correlations among labeled and unlabeled samples are established by their similarities, calculated by the radial basis function. Finally, we operate Graph Convolutional Neural Network (GCN) to grade retinal samples from extracted features and their correlations. To evaluate the performance of SAGN, we conduct sufficient comparative experiments on APTOS 2019 dataset, trained from EyePACS. Results demonstrate that our SAGN model can achieve comparable performance with limited labeled retinal images with the help of large amounts of unlabeled data.

Abstract

In March 2020, banks faced the largest increase in liquidity demands ever observed. Firms drew funds on a massive scale from preexisting credit lines in anticipation of cash flow and financial disruptions stemming from the advent of the COVID-19 crisis. The increase in liquidity demands was concentrated at the largest banks, who serve the largest firms. Precrisis financial condition did not constrain large banks’ liquidity supply. Coincident inflows of funds from both the Federal Reserve’s liquidity injection programs and depositors, along with strong preshock bank capital, explain why banks were able to accommodate these liquidity demands. Abstract

Pulmonary microbial invasion frequently occurs during AIDS progression in HIV patients. Inflammatory cytokines and other immunoregulatory factors play important roles in this process. We previously established an AIDS model of SIVmac239 infection in northern pig-tailed macaques (NPMs), which were divided into rapid progressor (RP) and slow progressor (SP) groups according to their AIDS progression rates. In this study, we performed 16S rDNA and transcriptome sequencing of the lungs to reveal the molecular mechanism underlying the difference in progression rate between the RPs and SPs. We found that microbial invasion in the RP group was distinct from that in the SP group, showing marker flora of the Family XI, Enterococcus and Ezakiella, and more Lactobacilli. Through pulmonary transcriptome analysis, we found that the transcription factor ZNF683 had higher expression in the SP group than in the RP group. In subsequent functional experiments, we found that ZNF683 increased the proliferation and IFNγ secretion ability of CD8+ T cells, thus decreasing SIV or HIV replication, which may be related to AIDS progression in SIVmac239-infected NPMs. This study helps elucidate the various complexities of disease progression in HIV-1-infected individuals.

Abstract

3D single object tracking plays an essential role in many applications, such as autonomous driving. It remains a challenging problem due to the large appearance variation and the sparsity of points caused by occlusion and limited sensor capabilities. Therefore, contextual information across two consecutive frames is crucial for effective object tracking. However, points containing such useful information are often overlooked and cropped out in existing methods, leading to insufficient use of important contextual knowledge. To address this issue, we propose CXTrack, a novel transformer-based network for 3D object tracking, which exploits ConteXtual information to improve the tracking results. Specifically, we design a target-centric transformer network that directly takes point features from two consecutive frames and the previous bounding box as input to explore contextual information and implicitly propagate target cues. To achieve accurate localization for objects of all sizes, we propose a transformer-based localization head with a novel center embedding module to distinguish the target from distractors. Extensive experiments on three large-scale datasets, KITTI, nuScenes and Waymo Open Dataset, show that CXTrack achieves state-of-the-art tracking performance while running at 34 FPS.

Impacts of nuclear structure on multiplicity ($N_{ch}$) and anisotropic flows ($v_{2}$ and $v_{3}$) in the isobaric collisions of $^{96}_{44}$Ru + $^{96}_{44}$Ru and $^{96}_{40}$Zr + $^{96}_{40}$Zr at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7, 27, 62.4 and 200 GeV are investigated by using the string melting version of A MultiPhase Transport (AMPT) model. In comparison with the experimental data released recently by the STAR collaboration, it is found that the impact of quadrupole deformation $\beta_{2}$ on the $v_{2}$ difference is mainly manifested in the most central collisions, while the octupole deformation $\beta_{3}$ is in the near-central collisions, and the neutron skin effect dominates in the mid-central collisions. Abstract

Point clouds captured by depth sensors are often contaminated by noises, obstructing further analysis and applications. In this paper, we emphasize the importance of point distribution uniformity to downstream tasks. We demonstrate that point clouds produced by existing gradient-based denoisers lack uniformity despite having achieved promising quantitative results. To this end, we propose GPCD++, a gradient-based denoiser with an ultra-lightweight network named UniNet to address uniformity. Compared with previous state-of-the-art methods, our approach not only generates competitive or even better denoising results, but also significantly improves uniformity which largely benefits applications such as surface reconstruction.

Abstract

Safe, efficacious, and deployable vaccines are urgently needed to control COVID-19 in the large-scale vaccination campaigns. We report here the preclinical studies of an approved protein subunit vaccine against COVID-19, ZF2001, which contains tandem-repeat dimeric receptor-binding domain (RBD) protein with alum-based adjuvant. We assessed vaccine immunogenicity and efficacy in both mice and non-human primates (NHPs). ZF2001 induced high levels of RBD-binding and SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibody in both mice and non-human primates, and elicited balanced TH1/TH2 cellular responses in NHPs. Two doses of ZF2001 protected Ad-hACE2-transduced mice against SARS-CoV-2 infection, as detected by reduced viral RNA and relieved lung injuries. In NHPs, vaccination of either 25 μg or 50 μg ZF2001 prevented infection with SARS-CoV-2 in lung, trachea, and bronchi, with milder lung lesions. No evidence of disease enhancement was observed in both animal models. ZF2001 has been approved for emergency use in China, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and Columbia. The high safety, immunogenicity, and protection efficacy in both mice and NHPs found in this preclinical study was consistent with the results in human clinical trials.

Abstract

In the present work, based on Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) theory, considering the cluster preformation probability (Pc), we systematically investigate the cluster radioactivity half-lives of 22 trans-lead nuclei ranging from 221Fr to 242Cm. As for Pc, when the mass number of the emitted cluster Ac= 28, it is achieved through the charge-number dependence of Pc on the decay products proposed by Ren et al. [Phys. Rev. C 70, 034304 (2004)]. The half-lives of cluster radioactivity have been calculated by the density-dependent cluster model [Phys. Rev. C 70, 034304 (2004)] and by the unified formula of half-lives for alpha decay and cluster radioactivity [Phys. Rev. C 78, 044310 (2008)]. For comparison, a universal decay law (UDL) proposed by Qi et al. [Phys. Rev. C 80, 044326 (2009)], a semi-empirical model for both alpha decay and cluster radioactivity proposed by Santhosh [J. Phys. G: Nucl. Part. Phys. 35, 085102 (2008)] and a unified formula of half-lives for alpha decay and cluster radioactivity [Phys. Rev. C 78, 044310 (2008)] are also used. The calculated results in our work, Ni's formula as well as UDL can well reproduce the experimental data and are better than those in Santhosh's model. In addition, we extend this model to predict the half-lives for 51 nuclei, whose cluster radioactivity is energetically allowed or observed but yet not quantified in NUBASE2020.

41. StructNeRF: Neural Radiance Fields for Indoor Scenes with Structural Hints

Abstract

Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) achieve photo-realistic view synthesis with densely captured input images. However, the geometry of NeRF is extremely under-constrained given sparse views, resulting in significant degradation of novel view synthesis quality. Inspired by self-supervised depth estimation methods, we propose StructNeRF, a solution to novel view synthesis for indoor scenes with sparse inputs. StructNeRF leverages the structural hints naturally embedded in multi-view inputs to handle the unconstrained geometry issue in NeRF. Specifically, it tackles the texture and non-texture regions respectively: a patch-based multi-view consistent photometric loss is proposed to constrain the geometry of textured regions; for non-textured ones, we explicitly restrict them to be 3D consistent planes. Through the dense self-supervised depth constraints, our method improves both the geometry and the view synthesis performance of NeRF without any additional training on external data. Extensive experiments on several real-world datasets demonstrate that StructNeRF surpasses state-of-the-art methods for indoor scenes with sparse inputs both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Abstract

The European physical journal / C 82(4), 289 (2022). doi:10.1140/epjc/s10052-022-10241-z, The study of the production of nuclei and antinuclei in pp collisions has proven to be a powerful tool to investigate the formation mechanism of loosely bound states in high-energy hadronic collisions. In this paper, the production of protons, deuterons and $^{3}\mathrm {He}$ and their charge conjugates at midrapidity is studied as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity in inelastic pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV using the ALICE detector. Within the uncertainties, the yields of nuclei in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV are compatible with those in pp collisions at different energies and to those in p–Pb collisions when compared at similar multiplicities. The measurements are compared with the expectations of coalescence and Statistical Hadronisation Models. The results suggest a common formation mechanism behind the production of light nuclei in hadronic interactions and confirm that they do not depend on the collision energy but on the number of produced particles., Published by Springer, Heidelberg

Abstract

Hydropower is an important clean renewable energy that plays a key role in coping with issues such as global energy security, environmental protection, and climate change. In order to improve the optimal operation ability of hydropower reservoirs in the context of forecast runoff with limited accuracy and prediction period, there has been a growing interest in deriving operating rules of hydropower reservoirs. Reasonable operation decision is very important for safe operation of reservoirs and efficient utilization of water resources. Therefore, a novel method of operation rules derivation is proposed in this study. Optimal operation model of hydropower reservoir is established and support vector machine (SVM) is used to derive operation rules based on the optimal operation results. In order to improve the performance of SVM, the Henry gas solubility optimization (HGSO) is used to optimize its hyperparameters for the first time. Meanwhile, multiple strategies are applied to overcome the drawbacks of HGSO. The multi-verse optimizer (MVO) is used to enhance the exploration capability of basic HGSO. Quadratic interpolation (QI) is used to improve the exploitation ability of HGSO. In this study, the Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba hydropower reservoirs in the upper Yangtze River of China were selected as a case study. First, the improved HGSO called MVQIHGSO was tested on 23 classical benchmark functions. Then, it was employed to optimize hyperparameters of SVM model for deriving operation rules. The results and statistical studies indicate that the improved HGSO outperforms the comparison algorithms in exploration and exploitation. The obtained results imply that the novel method named MVQIHGSO-SVM can provide a new practical tool to deriving operation rules for hydropower reservoirs, which is conducive to the safe and efficient utilization of water resources.

Abstract

Tight limits on the photon mass have been set through analyzing the arrival time differences of photons with different frequencies originating from the same astrophysical source. However, all these constraints have relied on using the first-order Taylor expansion of the dispersion due to a nonzero photon mass. In this work, we present an analysis of the nonzero photon mass dispersion with the second-order derivative of Taylor series. If the arrival time delay corrected for all known effects (including the first-order delay time due to the plasma and photon mass effects) is assumed to be dominated by the second-order term of the nonzero photon mass dispersion, a conservative upper limit on the photon mass can be estimated. Here we show that the dedispersed pulses with the second-order time delays from the Crab pulsar and the fast radio burst FRB 180916B pose strict limits on the photon mass, i.e., $m_{\gamma,2} \leq5.7\times10^{-46}\;{\rm kg}\simeq3.2\times10^{-10}\; {\rm eV}/c^{2}$ and $m_{\gamma,2} \leq6.0\times10^{-47}\;{\rm kg}\simeq3.4\times10^{-11}\; {\rm eV}/c^{2}$, respectively. Abstract

Although spermatogenic dysfunction is widely found in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the underlying reasons remain unclear. Thus far, potential hypotheses involving viral reservoirs, testicular inflammation, hormone imbalance, and cachexia show inconsistent correlation with spermatogenic dysfunction. Here, northern pig-tailed macaques (NPMs) exhibited marked spermatogenic dysfunction after long-term infection with simian immunodeficiency virus (SIVmac239), with significant decreases in Johnsen scores, differentiated spermatogonial stem cells, and testicular proliferating cells. The above hypotheses were also evaluated. Results showed no differences between SIV− and SIV+ NPMs, except for an increase in follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) during SIV infection, which had no direct effect on the testes. However, long-term SIVmac239 infection undermined pancreatic islet β cell function, partly represented by significant reductions in cellular counts and autophagy levels. Pancreatic islet β cell dysfunction led to glucose metabolism disorder at the whole-body level, which inhibited lactate production by Sertoli cells in testicular tissue. As lactate is the main energy substrate for developing germ cells, its decrease was strongly correlated with spermatogenic dysfunction. Therefore, glucose metabolism disorder appears to be a primary cause of spermatogenic dysfunction in NPMs with long-term SIVmac239 infection.

Abstract

Understanding gluon density distributions and how they are modified in nuclei are among the most important goals in nuclear physics. In recent years, diffractive vector meson production measured in ultra-peripheral collisions (UPCs) at heavy-ion colliders has provided a new tool for probing the gluon density. In this Letter, we report the first measurement of $J/\psi$ photoproduction off the deuteron in UPCs at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=200~\rm GeV$ in d$+$Au collisions. The differential cross section as a function of momentum transfer $-t$ is measured. In addition, data with a neutron tagged in the deuteron-going Zero-Degree Calorimeter is investigated for the first time, which is found to be consistent with the expectation of incoherent diffractive scattering at low momentum transfer. Theoretical predictions based on the Color Glass Condensate saturation model and the gluon shadowing model are compared with the data quantitatively. A better agreement with the saturation model has been observed. With the current measurement, the results are found to be directly sensitive to the gluon density distribution of the deuteron and the deuteron breakup, which provides insights into the nuclear gluonic structure., Comment: Final published version Phys. Abstract

Understanding the pathological features of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in an animal model is crucial for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Here, we compared immunopathological changes in young and old rhesus macaques (RMs) before and after SARS-CoV-2 infection at the tissue level. Quantitative analysis of multiplex immunofluorescence staining images of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) sections showed that SARS-CoV-2 infection specifically induced elevated levels of apoptosis, autophagy, and nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) activation of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)+ cells, and increased interferon α (IFN-α)- and interleukin 6 (IL-6)-secreting cells and C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 3 (CXCR3)+ cells in lung tissue of old RMs. This pathological pattern, which may be related to the age-related pro-inflammatory microenvironment in both lungs and spleens, was significantly correlated with the systemic accumulation of CXCR3+ cells in lungs, spleens, and peripheral blood. Furthermore, the ratio of CXCR3+ to T-box protein expression in T cell (T-bet)+ (CXCR3+/T-bet+ ratio) in CD8+ cells may be used as a predictor of severe COVID-19. These findings uncovered the impact of aging on the immunopathology of early SARS-CoV-2 infection and demonstrated the potential application of CXCR3+ cells in predicting severe COVID-19.
