The roughness of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) prepared on the surface of aero-engine turbine blades affects the lifetime of the coating and the life cycle and aerodynamic performance of the blades. To reduce the TBC surface roughness, this study proposes a robot polishing trajectory planning method that combines reverse engineering and finite element mesh technology. First, a 3D model of the blade was reconstructed in reverse engineering by using the fast surface modeling method. Then, a dense mesh with controlled spacing was obtained by mapping the finite element mesh arbitrary quadrilateral elements on the surface of the blade model. Finally, a robot polishing path of the blade was generated by sorting the index of mesh nodes. Using this approach, polishing experiments of aero-engine turbine blades were systematically carried out, and the coordinate system conversion method from the robot off-line programming simulation environment to the actual work station was used to map the robot trajectory. Meanwhile, the point cloud registration method was introduced to improve the system calibration accuracy. The experiments showed that the technical solution proposed in this paper could reduce the overall surface roughness of the thermal barrier coating from above Ra 8 μm to about Ra 0.5 μm, which contributes to the performance improvement for the TBCs of aero-engine blades.

We present the first catalog of very-high energy and ultra-high energy $\gamma$-ray sources detected by the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), using 508 days of data collected by the Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) from March 2021 to September 2022 and 933 days of data recorded by the Kilometer Squared Array (KM2A) from January 2020 to September 2022. This catalog represents the most sensitive $E > 1$ TeV gamma-ray survey of the sky covering declination from $-$20$^{\circ}$ to 80$^{\circ}$. In total, the catalog contains 90 sources with extended size smaller than $2^\circ$ and with significance of detection at $> 5\sigma$. For each source, we provide its position, extension and spectral characteristics. Furthermore, based on our source association criteria, 32 new TeV sources are proposed in this study. 1. Methyltransferase-like 21C (METTL21C) and insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 1 (IGF2BP1) play important roles in the proliferation of chicken myoblasts. However, it remains unclear whether there is protein-protein interaction between METTL21C and IGF2BP1 to regulate proliferation of chicken myoblasts. 2. In this study, the Igf2bp1 gene was amplified from cDNA of liver tissue of Lueyang black-bone chicken to construct the overexpression vector HA-Igf2bp1. The HA-Igf2bp1 and Flag-Mettl21c vectors were individually transfected and co-transfected into HEK293T, respectively. Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) assay indicated a protein-protein interaction between METTL21C and IGF2BP1. 3. Using the Western blotting and LC-MS/MS, it was found that METTL21C could mediate the lysine methylation modification of IGF2BP1. Furthermore, the His-tagged overexpression vector HA-Igf2bp1-His was constructed, transfected and co-transfected with Flag-Mettl21c into HEK293T. His-tagged IGF2BP1 was purified by nickel ion affinity chromatography. Western blotting revealed that IGF2BP1 was successfully purified, and the trimethylation modification level of co-transfection group was significantly elevated compared with the single-transfection Igf2bp1 group. 4. Mettl21c and Igf2bp1 overexpression vectors were transfected and co-transfected into primary chicken myoblasts, respectively. The results of 5-ethynyl-2’-deoxyuridine assay and the expression level of Pax7 and MyoD indicated that overexpression of Igf2bp1 alone inhibited the chicken myoblast proliferation, whereas co-expression of Mettl21c and Igf2bp1 eliminated the inhibitory effects of Igf2bp1, thereby favouring cell proliferation and differentiation. 5. The results, for the first time, revealed that METTL21C mediated the lysine trimethylation modification of IGF2BP1 to regulate the proliferation of chicken myoblasts, which provided a new insight into in-depth analysis of the molecular mechanism of METTL21C methylation involved in regulating the growth and development of skeletal muscle in Lueyang black-bone chicken.

The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) has three sub-arrays, KM2A, WCDA and WFCTA. The flux variations of cosmic ray air showers were studied by analyzing the KM2A data during the thunderstorm on 10 June 2021. The number of shower events that meet the trigger conditions increases significantly in atmospheric electric fields, with maximum fractional increase of 20%. The variations of trigger rates (increases or decreases) are found to be strongly dependent on the primary zenith angle. The flux of secondary particles increases significantly, following a similar trend with that of the shower events. To better understand the observed behavior, Monte Carlo simulations are performed with CORSIKA and G4KM2A (a code based on GEANT4). We find that the experimental data (in saturated negative fields) are in good agreement with simulations, assuming the presence of a uniform upward electric field of 700 V/cm with a thickness of 1500 m in the atmosphere above the observation level. Due to the acceleration/deceleration and deflection by the atmospheric electric field, the number of secondary particles with energy above the detector threshold is modified, resulting in the changes in shower detection rate., Comment: 18 pages, 11 figures

Cryogenic Electron Microscopy (cryo-EM) preserves the ensemble of protein conformations in solution and thus provide a promising way to characterize conformational changes underlying protein functions. However, it remains challenging for existing software to elucidate distributions of multiple conformations from a heterogeneous cryo-EM dataset. We developed a new algorithm: Linear Combinations of Template Conformations (LCTC) to obtain distributions of multiple conformations from cryo-EM datasets. LCTC assigns 2D images to the template 3D structures obtained by Multi-body Re-finement of RELION via a novel two-stage matching algorithm. Specifically, an initial rapid assignment of experimental 2D images to template 2D images was applied based on auto-correlation functions of image contours that can efficiently remove the majority of irrelevant 2D images. This is followed by pixel-pixel matching of images with fewer number of 2D images, which can accurately assign the 2D images to the template images. We validate the LCTC method by demonstrating that it can accurately reproduce the distributions of 3Thermus aquaticus(Taq) RNA polymerase (RNAP) structures with different degrees of clamp opening from a simulated cryo-EM dataset, in which the correct distributions are known. For this dataset, we also show that LCTC greatly outperforms clustering-based Manifold Embedding and Maximum Likelihood-based Multi-body Re-finement algorithms in terms of reproducing the structural distributions. Lastly, we also successfully applied LCTC to reveal the populations of various clamp-opening conformations from an experimentalEscherichia coliRNAP cryo-EM dataset. Background: Estrogen could limit the nondominant follicles development after the first deviation by inhibition of the FSH secretion through the negative feedback loop, which ensure that the number of dominant follicles would be in a moderate level. Methods: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of estradiol benzoate (EB) on inhibiting the development of nondominant follicles and inducing twin calves in beef heifers. Beef heifers were synchronized using an estradiol (E2)- plus- progesterone (P4)- based and superovulated using small dose follicle- stimulating hormone (FSH) protocol. From days 6.5 to 7.5 every heifer was treated with variety dose of estradiol benzoate (EB) for 3 times with 12 h intervals to eliminate the excess number of dominant follicles. Results: The diameters of the two largest follicles (F1 and F2) continually increased from day 3.5 to day 10. However, the growth rate was constrained by exogenous EB, and the degree of suppression was greatest in the 0.5 mg EB treatment compared with other treatments. As a result, the number of large follicles (≥ 10 mm) was also reduced along with the dose of EB increased. The double/triple ovulations rate, pregnancy rate and twin were all demonstrate the highest in 0.2 mg EB treatment group than in other treatments. Conclusions：The present study describes an efficient protocol that can be used to stimulate the development of a small number of dominant follicles i.e. 2-3 at the deviation stage through a FSH and 0.2 mg EB combine treatment, which can further result in the production of two calves. The appropriate dose of EB treatment during FSH induced superovulation procedure could limit the number of dominant follicles development and eventually increase the calf production efficiency.

The Crab pulsar and the surrounding nebula powered by the pulsar's rotational energy through the formation and termination of a relativistic electron-positron wind is a bright source of gamma-rays carrying crucial information about this complex conglomerate. We report the detection of $\gamma$-rays with a spectrum showing gradual steepening over three energy decades, from $5\times 10^{-4}$ to $1.1$ petaelectronvolt (PeV). The ultra-high-energy photons exhibit the presence of a PeV electron accelerator (a pevatron) with an acceleration rate exceeding 15% of the absolute theoretical limit. Assuming that unpulsed $\gamma$-rays are produced at the termination of the pulsar's wind, we constrain the pevatron's size, between $0.025$ and $0.1$ pc, and the magnetic field $\approx 110 \mu$G. The production rate of PeV electrons, $2.5 \times 10^{36}$ erg $\rm s^{-1}$, constitutes 0.5% of the pulsar's spin-down luminosity, although we do not exclude a non-negligible contribution of PeV protons to the production of the highest energy $\gamma$-rays., Comment: 43 pages, 13 figures, 2 tables; Published in Science

PurposeCoronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is now a global health concern. However, there is no detailed analysis of the factors related to patients’ improvement.Patients and methodsWe compared the clinical characteristics, laboratory findings, CT images, and treatment of COVID-19 patients from two different cities in China. One hundred and sixty-nine patients were recruited from January 27 to March 17, 2020 at five hospitals in Hubei and Guangxi. They were divided into four groups according to age and into two groups according to presence of comorbidities. Multivariate statistical analyses were performed for the prognosis of the disease.ResultsFifty-two patients (30.8%) had comorbidities, and the percentage of critical COVID-19was higher in the comorbidities group (11.6%vs.0.9%, pConclusionsAge, comorbidities, lymphocyte count, and SpO2 may predict the risk of severity of COVID-19. In this paper, we propose a method which jointly learns the layout prediction and depth estimation from a single indoor panorama image. Previous methods have considered layout prediction and depth estimation from a single panorama image separately. However, these two tasks are tightly intertwined. Leveraging the layout depth map as an intermediate representation, our proposed method outperforms existing methods for both panorama layout prediction and depth estimation. Experiments on the challenging real-world dataset of Stanford 2D–3D demonstrate that our approach obtains superior performance for both the layout prediction tasks (3D IoU: \(85.81\%\) v.s. \(79.79\%\)) and the depth estimation (Abs Rel: 0.068 v.s. 0.079).

The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2019 is the seventh annual tracker benchmarking activity organized by the VOT initiative. Results of 81 trackers are presented; many are state-of-the-art trackers published at major computer vision conferences or in journals in the recent years. The evaluation included the standard VOT and other popular methodologies for short-term tracking analysis as well as the standard VOT methodology for long-term tracking analysis. The VOT2019 challenge was composed of five challenges focusing on different tracking domains: (i) VOT-ST2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB, (ii) VOT-RT2019 challenge focused on "real-time" short-term tracking in RGB, (iii) VOT-LT2019 focused on long-term tracking namely coping with target disappearance and reappearance. Two new challenges have been introduced: (iv) VOT-RGBT2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB and thermal imagery and (v) VOT-RGBD2019 challenge focused on long-term tracking in RGB and depth imagery. The VOT-ST2019, VOT-RT2019 and VOT-LT2019 datasets were refreshed while new datasets were introduced for VOT-RGBT2019 and VOT-RGBD2019. The VOT toolkit has been updated to support both standard short-term, long-term tracking and tracking with multi-channel imagery. Performance of the tested trackers typically by far exceeds standard baselines. The source code for most of the trackers is publicly available from the VOT page. Background We compared Kaposi sarcoma (KS) risk in adults who started antiretroviral therapy (ART) across the Asia-Pacific, South Africa, Europe, Latin, and North America. Methods We included cohort data of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive adults who started ART after 1995 within the framework of 2 large collaborations of observational HIV cohorts. We present incidence rates and adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs). Results We included 208140 patients from 57 countries. Over a period of 1066572 person-years, 2046 KS cases were diagnosed. KS incidence rates per 100000 person-years were 52 in the Asia-Pacific and ranged between 180 and 280 in the other regions. KS risk was 5 times higher in South African women (aHR, 4.56; 95% confidence intervals [CI], 2.73-7.62) than in their European counterparts, and 2 times higher in South African men (2.21; 1.34-3.63). In Europe, Latin, and North America KS risk was 6 times higher in men who have sex with men (aHR, 5.95; 95% CI, 5.09-6.96) than in women. © 2017 Face recognition in real-world video surveillance needs to deal with a lot of challenges including low resolution, illumination variations, pose changes, occlusions and so on. Among them, occlusions are difficult and have not attracted enough attentions. To address this problem, in this paper, we propose a robust discriminative nonnegative dictionary learning method for occluded face recognition, which estimates the occlusions adaptively and selects the features robustly. Instead of modeling the reconstruction errors using a specific distribution, we estimate occlusions adaptively according to the reconstruction errors and learn different weights for different pixels during the iterative processing. To enhance discriminant ability of the dictionary, we constrain the low-dimensional representations of samples from the same class to be as close as possible and select the discriminative features robustly via ℓ2, 1-norm. For the induced non-convex problem, we reformulate it into local convex optimization subproblem via utilizing the half-quadratic technique and propose new update rules. Extensive experiments are implemented on four benchmark datasets, and the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

A new principle of steady state of atoms in heteronuclear diatomic molecules based on constraint rule is proposed. Each atom in a heteronuclear diatomic molecule is described by three parameters a, b and ζand the atoms are the most stable when the value ζa/b is constant(2.601824). This model has one free parameter which was fitted by the graphical method.The calculated dissociation energy are in good agreement with the known experimental values.

Introduction: Leptospirosis is a worldwide zoonotic disease, with variable severity and involvement of multiple organs. Severe leptospirosis is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, which poses a great threat to human health. Due to the limitation of traditional clinical and laboratory diagnosis methods, pathogens for many infectious diseases, including leptospirosis, remain unknown. Recently, unbiased next generation sequencing (NGS) sheds light on the precise and rapid diagnosis of intractable infectious diseases, which is greatly beneficial to the prompt treatment and reliable prognosis. Case presentation: A 35 year old male got a fever with rapid hepato-renal-pulmonary involvement after his travel to Hunan province, China. The manifestations initiated with a jaundice-hemorrhage clinical type, and then followed by the combination of jaundice-hemorrhage and diffuse hemorrhage (PDH) clinical types, along with liver, heart, muscle and pancreas involvement. To identify the causative agent for the disease, blood sample was collected for serologicaltests, pathogen-specific PCR detection. Meanwhile, blood and sputum samples were used to do the nextgeneration sequencing, and the Leptospira interrogans serovar Copenhageni was detected and confirmed as the pathogenic agent. Based on the precise diagnosis, our patient recovered progressively with antimicrobials and supportive care. Conclusion: NGS played a critical role in the precise diagnosis of leptospirosis infection in this case. Corticosteroids combined with antibiotics treatments based on the diagnosis and clinical signs with suspicious pulmonary hemorrhage may decelerate the disease progression. The unbiased NGS would be further used in clinics for disease diagnosis especially for the uncertain and unknown pathogens.

Diabetes mellitus causes vascular lesions and may ultimately lead to atherosclerosis. One of the earliest steps in the development of atherosclerotic lesions is the adhesion of monocytes to endothelial cells of the vessel wall. It is currently unknown whether zinc finger protein A20 is able to protect endothelial cells from injury caused by high levels of glucose and monocyte homing. In our study, adhesion of monocytes to the vessel wall endothelium was detected by measuring the rolling velocity of monocytes along human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Activation of NF-κB was analyzed through Western blot. HUVEC apoptosis was monitored by TUNEL in situ end-labeling and flow cytometry. High glucose concentrations (25 mM) stimulated monocytes, reducing the velocity at which they roll along HUVECs. Stimulation of monocytes with high levels of glucose also induced HUVEC apoptosis. Overexpression of the zinc finger protein A20 inhibited monocyte recruitment, NF-κB activation, P-selectin expression, and HUVEC apoptosis induced by high glucose levels. We conclude that zinc finger protein A20 can protect HUVECs from injury induced by high levels of glucose and potentially could be used to develop treatments against diabetic vascular lesions.

A proxy population for those undiagnosed are patients that present late to care with advanced HIV. The objectives of this analysis are to examine factors associated with patients presenting with advanced HIV, and establish rates of treatment interruption and modification after initiating ART. Methods: We deterministically linked records from the Australian HIV Observational Database to the Australian National HIV Registry to obtain information related to HIV diagnosis. Logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with advanced HIV diagnosis.We used survival methods to evaluate rates of ART initiation by diagnosis CD4 count strata and by calendar year of HIV diagnosis. Quantum information brings together theories of physics and computer science. This synthesis challenges the basic intuitions of both fields. In this thesis, we show that adopting a unified and general language for process theories advances foundations and practical applications of quantum information. Our first set of results analyze quantum algorithms with a process theoretic structure. We contribute new constructions of the Fourier transform and Pontryagin duality in dagger symmetric monoidal categories. We then use this setting to study generalized unitary oracles and give a new quantum blackbox algorithm for the identification of group homomorphisms, solving the GROUPHOMID problem. In the remaining section, we construct a novel model of quantum blackbox algorithms in non-deterministic classical computation. Our second set of results concerns quantum foundations. We complete work begun by Coecke et al., definitively connecting the Mermin non-locality of a process theory with a simple algebraic condition on that theory's phase groups. This result allows us to offer new experimental tests for Mermin non-locality and new protocols for quantum secret sharing. In our final chapter, we exploit the shared process theoretic structure of quantum information and distributional compositional linguistics. We propose a quantum algorithm adapted from Weibe et al. to classify sentences by meaning. The clarity of the process theoretic setting allows us to recover a speedup that is lost in the naive application of the algorithm. T-cell reduction utilizing specific antibody has been widely used in human transplantation, and is a cornerstone of several tolerance induction strategies in nonhuman primates. We have established a population of long-term tolerant rhesus macaques induced with an anti-CD3epsilon immunotoxin (IT). This treatment effects transient, specific and profound ablation of T cells in blood and lymphoid tissues. In most instances the IT was used in combination with the NF-kappaB inhibitor, 15-Deoxyspergualin. This 2-week long protocol produces a "window of opportunity" for tolerization in which the animal exhibits an enduring quiescent state of unresponsiveness to the allograft, all accomplished without maintenance immunosuppressive drugs. During this induction period, the treated immune system bears some resemblance to that of the neonate, in that T cell numbers are abnormally low and antigen presentation by dendritic cells is precluded by an arrest in their NF-kappaB dependant maturation. In addition, IL-4 production is prominent during and after the tolerance induction interval. For this study we focused on measuring the monkey's ability to repopulate T cells with particular emphasis on the memory T-cell phenotype. Three "memory" phenotypes were utilized; CD3(+)CD45RO(+), CD3(+)CRTH2(+), and CD3(+)CD4(+)CD8(+). All three phenotypes exhibited different patterns of recovery, all of which included transient bursts in their numbers during repopulation. We also estimated thymic activity after T-cell ablation with the use of a newly-described RTE or recent thymic émigré phenotype (a naïve CD8(+)CD103(+) T cell). This marker revealed production of RTE cells including supranormal levels at approximately 6 months post-transplant, implicating thymic function in the repopulation of T-cells. Finally, we measured antibody responses to a panel of antigens (vaccines, environmental antigen, and foreign proteins) that indicated there was no apparent loss of immunologic function during or after the tolerance induction period. Results of studies of T-cell receptor repertoire expression suggest preservation of the pretreatment repertoire, which is consistent with rapid recovery of immune competence to the test antigens. Taken together, these results suggest that while aggressive, this tolerance induction protocol does not appear to incur a prolonged immunologically-compromised state, if at all.

Surface mapping plays an important role in geometric processing. They induce both area and angular distortions. If the angular distortion is bounded, the mapping is called a {\it quasi-conformal} map. Many surface maps in our physical world are quasi-conformal. The angular distortion of a quasi-conformal map can be represented by Beltrami differentials. According to quasi-conformal Teichm\"uller theory, there is an 1-1 correspondence between the set of Beltrami differentials and the set of quasi-conformal surface maps. Therefore, every quasi-conformal surface map can be fully determined by the Beltrami differential and can be reconstructed by solving the so-called Beltrami equation. In this work, we propose an effective method to solve the Beltrami equation on general Riemann surfaces. The solution is a quasi-conformal map associated with the prescribed Beltrami differential. We firstly formulate a discrete analog of quasi-conformal maps on triangular meshes. Then, we propose an algorithm to compute discrete quasi-conformal maps. The main strategy is to define a discrete auxiliary metric of the source surface, such that the original quasi-conformal map becomes conformal under the newly defined discrete metric. The associated map can then be obtained by using the discrete Yamabe flow method. Numerically, the discrete quasi-conformal map converges to the continuous real solution as the mesh size approaches to 0. We tested our algorithm on surfaces scanned from real life with different topologies. Experimental results demonstrate the generality and accuracy of our auxiliary metric method.

Objective and importance: Large cell medulloblastoma is an uncommon malignancy of childhood that often pursues an aggressive clinical course. We report the first case of this entity in an adult that proved to be an unsuspected primary leptomeningeal tumor. Clinical presentation: A 30-year-old man complained of worsening neck pain over the course of 3 months. Neck pain increased a few days prior to admission and a cervical spine CT revealed tonsillar herniation. Cervical spine MRI performed the day prior to admission confirmed the diagnosis of Chiari I malformation and C3 ― 4 disk herniation without spinal cord compression. On the day of admission, the patient became unresponsive and resuscitative measures were unsuccessful. Postmortem examination of the brain was notable for necrotic cerebellar tonsils, but demonstrated no evidence of an intraparenchymal mass lesion. Microscopic examination of the cerebellum revealed discohesive neoplastic cells, which showed characteristic dot-like immunoreactivity for synaptophysin, diagnostic of large cell medulloblastoma within the subarachnoid space. Conclusions: Our experience with this unique case illustrates the challenges of diagnosing a primary leptomeningeal neoplasm. This case also underscores the importance of maintaining a high degree of suspicion for leptomeningeal neoplasms in patients who present with imaging studies suspicious for Chiari I malformation.

Spermatogenesis is a fundamental biological process that ensures gee transmission from one generation to another trough gametes. This process relies on a rare population of testicular cells, called spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs), that self-renew throughout adult male life and differentiate into mature gametes. Despite the longstanding research of SSCs, their biological properties remain largely unknown which is partly due to very limited availability of these cells. Here we show that cell adhesion protein E-cadherin is a highly specific surface marker of mouse SSCs, which can be successfully used for their enrichment.

We show that the most efficient state‐of‐the‐art implementations of Dijkstra can be improved by taking advantage of network properties associated with GIS‐sourced data. The results of this paper, derived from tests of different algorithmic approaches on real road networks, will be extremely valuable for application developers and researchers in the GIS community.

The induction of an immune response or tolerance is mediated by corresponding subsets of dendritic cells (DC). However, the property of tolerogenic DC is not clear. Recently, we have characterized a population of CD11c+ splenic DC derived from long-term mixed leucocyte culture (LT-MLC), which are able to proliferate upon stimulation and have a strong primary mixed leucocyte reaction (MLR)-stimulating activity in conventional MLR. In this study, we show that, in contrast to the irradiated ones, non-irradiated LT-MLC-derived DC induce polyclonal antigen-specific T-cell hyporesponsiveness when cocultured with allogeneic splenocytes for 3-11 days. The degree of the hyporesponsiveness increased with the length of coculture. Although these DC expressed major histocompatibility complex class II and B7 costimulatory molecules, which are down-regulated during coculture, they expressed very low or undetectable CD40 before and after coculture, respectively. The CD40-deficient DC spontaneously produce interleukin-10 (IL-10), but not IL-12. The skewed balance between IL-10 and IL-12 is associated with their capability to induce T-cell hyporesponsiveness, because a neutralizing antibody to IL-10, exogenous recombinant IL-12 or lipopolysaccharide (LPS) significantly blocked the hyporesponsiveness. Accordingly, infusion of a small number of non-irradiated LT-MLC-derived DC (5x105) significantly prolonged the survival of a vascularized heterotopic murine heart transplant, whereas irradiated DC accelerated graft rejection. These data suggest that CD40-deficient DC producing IL-10, but not IL-12 can induce T-cell hyporesponsiveness in vitro and in vivo.

The existence of T cells capable of inhibiting in vitro hematopoiesis has been shown in aplastic anemia (AA), although whether such inhibition is mediated by a specific immune reaction involving an HLA allele remained unknown. We isolated a CD4+ Vβ21+ T-cell clone that was most dominant among Vβ21+ T cells in the bone marrow (BM) of an AA patient whose HLA-DRB1 alleles included 1501 and 0405. The T-cell clone named NT4.2 lysed an autologous Epstein-Barr virus-transformed lymphoblastoid cell line (LCL) and phytohemagglutinin-stimulated lymphocytes (PHA-blasts) as well as allogeneic LCLs sharing HLA-DRB1*0405. Cytotoxicity against LCL cells and PHA-blasts by NT4.2 was blocked by anti–HLA-DR monoclonal antibody (MoAb) or anti-CD3 MoAb. NT4.2 also lysed autologous BM mononuclear cells enriched with CD34+ cells that had been cultured for one week in the presence of colony-stimulating factors as well as allogeneic CD34+ cells of a normal individual carrying HLA-DRB1*0405, cultured in the same way. Moreover, NT4.2 strongly inhibited colony formation by hematopoietic progenitor cells derived from cultured CD34+ cells sharing HLA-DRB1*0405. These results indicate that the AA patient has T cells capable of killing hematopoietic cells in an HLA-DRB1*0405-restricted manner and that such cytotoxic T cells may contribute to the pathogenesis of AA.

Recent experimental results on two hcp phases of barium under high pressure show interesting variation of the lattice parameters. They are here interpreted in terms of electronic structure calculation by using the LMTO method and generalized pseudopotential theory (GPT) with a NFE-TBB approach. In phase II the dramatic drop in c/a is an instability analogous to that in the group II metals but with the transfer of s to d electrons playing a crucial role in Ba. A 12 kDa template-assembled molecule, incorporating four oxime-linked synthetic peptides representing residues 306-328 of influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA), has been analysed by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The molecule (referred to as the 'tetraoxime') is of interest because it has been shown to elicit a better immune response than the free, monomeric peptide not only in the production of antibodies crossreactive with HA but also in its ability to elicit CD4+ T helper cells. We describe here an NMR structural analysis of (i) the unlinked template molecule and (ii) the free peptide and show that their conformations are not affected upon assembly of the tetraoxime. Our results suggest that the increased immune response observed for the tetraoxime may be due to its greater size and valency compared to that of the free peptide rather than being due to any induced structural effects.

Inherent to the somewhat uncontrolled nature of the additive process, the surfaces of metal powder bed fusion additively manufactured components tend to be very rough. Large isolated ‘bumps’, as one of the major defect features, are often present due to partially melted particles attached to the surface. An enhanced watershed segmentation method is proposed to separate these ‘bump’ features from the underlying surface texture such that the ‘bumps’ and underlying surface can be quantitatively analysed. The results show that the amplitude roughness parameters of the underlying surface are significantly less than the un-segmented surface and spatial roughness parameters differ between two surfaces. Characterising the extracted underlying surface and ‘bumps’ independently allows better correlation between surface measurements and additive system performance and hence aids in process optimization.

Objective: To develop a scale of the doctor-patient relationship in China (DPR-C). Methods: A scale was developed by literature reviews and expert interviews and tested among 162 doctors,then was validated and empirically examined with 1971 doctors nationwide using exploratory factor analysis (EFA),confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and other statistical methods,verified the reliability and validity of the scale. Results: The DPR-C has10 items,which includes two factors,“trust between doctor and patient” and “patient-centered treatment”. Conclusion:The scale has satisfactory reliability and validity, which can be used to measure the doctor-patient relationship from doctor’s perspective in China. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion
