The main goals of this research are to determine customers’ requirements from hotels based on TripAdvisor and the technical capabilities to fulfill customers’ requirements. Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) used in this research is the method to determine the customer requirements based on review from TripAdvisor. An output from the LDA method is used as input to Voice of Customer (VOC) in the quality function deployment (QFD). A hotel is selected to be a case study for implementing the integration of LDA and QFD. Questionnaires are distributed to the respondents for the purposes of filling the QFD. The absolute weight, relative weight, absolute importance and relative importance from the QFD with the highest scores are determined as the major capabilities to fulfill customers’ requirements. Suggestion given to the hotel based on output from the QFD. The suggestions for the hotel in this research were unannounced inspections and notes for list of problem to be solved immediately by the hotel.

We report on proton acceleration from intense CO2 laser-irradiated hydrogen plasmas at near-critical densities, with the density gradient steepened by Nd:YAG laser ablation-driven hydrodynamic shocks. While the experimental results, such as the quasi-monoenergetic proton spectra and their scaling with respect to the laser energy, are generally in agreement with the simulations, certain laser shots produced significantly higher proton energies than anticipated during the experiment. The increased proton energy may be linked to nonlinear propagation effects in the steepened plasma density ramp before the critical surface, including relativistic self-focusing and, for the case of temporally-structured laser pulses observed in the experiment, focusing of the trailing pulse through the plasma channel formed by the leading pulse 25 ps ahead. The occurrence of channel focusing in the underdense hydrogen plasma is supported by a subsequent pump-probe experiment with a dark-field imaging technique, where the formation of ion channels was observed after the passage of an intense CO2 laser pulse.

Most studies on common due date problems discuss the topic in the context of solving the minimum penalty value for the single-machine or parallel machine scheduling environment. This study extends the problem of the common due date to the dynamic flow shop environment and proposes the enhanced heuristic algorithm to solve the minimum penalty value. The enhanced heuristic algorithm is characterized by designating mutant genomes of the child as the genomes located at the central location before mutation. The advantage is to integrate the successful experiences of the conventional common due date algorithm to improve the efficiency of the proposed heuristic algorithm. The performance of both algorithms is analyzed in terms of uniformly distributed job numbers, processing time, early penalty, and late penalty. The resulting outcomes indicate that the enhanced heuristic algorithm outperforms the conventional CDDA and EDD proposed by previous studies in the average penalties.

9. A network analysis of difficulties in emotion regulation, anxiety, and depression for adolescents in clinical settings

Background Difficulties in emotion regulation (DER) are widely considered to underlie anxiety and depression. Given the prevalence of anxiety and depression in adolescents and the fact that adolescence is a key period for the development of emotion regulation ability, it is important to examine how DER is related to anxiety and depression in adolescents in clinical settings. Methods In the present study, we assessed 209 adolescents in clinical settings using the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and examined the associations between six components of DER and 14 symptoms of anxiety and depression. We used network analysis, constructed circular and multidimensional scaling (MDS) networks, and calculated network centrality, bridge centrality, and stability of centrality indices. Results The results showed that: (1) The global centrality index shows that the Strategy component (i.e., lack of access to strategies) is the center in the whole network, ranking highest in strength, closeness, betweenness, and expected influence. (2) The MDS network showed a closeness of anxiety and depression symptoms, while Awareness component (i.e., lack of emotional awareness) stayed away from other DER components, but Awareness is close to some depression symptoms. (3) The bridge nodes of three groups, Strategy from DERS, Worry and Relax from anxiety symptoms, and Cheerful and Slow from depression symptoms, had the strongest relationships with the other groups. Conclusion Lack of access to strategies remains in the center not only in DER but also in the DER-anxiety-depression network, while lack of awareness is close to depression but not to anxiety. Worrying thoughts and inability to relax are the bridging symptoms for anxiety, while lack of cheerful emotions and slowing down are the bridging symptoms for depression. These findings suggest that making emotion regulation strategies more accessible to patients and reducing these bridging symptoms may yield the greatest rewards for anxiety and depression therapy.

Background Magnesium-loaded hydroxyapatite (Mg@HAp) is a potential biomaterial for bone healing application but has not been comprehensively synthesized yet. Methods In this study, we utilize phosphatidylcholine (PC)-assisted method for synthesizing Mg@HAp with controllable Mg amount from 1.44 to 10.64 wt%. It is proposed that the negatively charged phosphate functional group of PC could act on cations (i.e. Mg2+ or Ca2+), which provides stable nucleation for the formation of Mg@HAp. Significant findings By optimizing the synthesis conditions, we successfully prepared a Mg@HAp with a relatively low crystallinity which is similar to human bone structure, as evidenced by XRD measurement. The in vitro test of bone cells (MG-63) shows that the release of Mg2+ ions from Mg@HAp enhances cellular proliferation and differentiation. We believe the synthesized Mg@HAp would be a promising biomaterial in orthopedic applications.

Patients with Type 2 diabetes are known to be more susceptible to experience dementia and depression/anxiety. The neural circuits of emotional conflict monitoring, as indicated by a Stroop task, might become altered in terms of cognitive and affective impairments in diabetes. This study investigated alterations in the emotional conflict monitoring and associations of corresponding brain activities with metabolic parameters in persons with Type 2 diabetes. Participants with normal cognitive and affective functioning, including 40 persons with Type 2 diabetes and 30 non-diabetes control subjects, underwent a functional MRI paradigm with the face-word emotional Stroop task and detailed cognitive and affective assessments, including the Montreal Cognitive Assessment and Beck Anxiety Inventory. Compared with the controls, people with diabetes exhibited stronger emotional interference, as indicated by differential reaction times between congruent and incongruent trials (Δcon). Δcon was correlated with Montreal Cognitive Assessment test scores and fasting glucose levels. People with diabetes demonstrated altered brain activation and functional connectivity in the neural network for emotional conflict monitoring. The neural network for emotional conflict monitoring mediated the association of pancreatic function with anxiety scores as well as the relationship between Δcon and Montreal Cognitive Assessment scores. Results suggested that alterations in the neural network underlying emotional conflict monitoring might present before clinically measurable cognitive and affective decrements were apparent, thereby bridging the gap between dementia and anxiety/depression in persons with diabetes.

14. How to encourage students continue learning English on podcast? The perspectives of stimulus-organism-response and interest driven creator theory

Purpose Podcasting is a new mobile technology application for language learning. Drawing upon the stimulus–organism–response model and the interest driven creator (IDC) theory from e-learning, this study aims to develop and test an integrative conceptual framework. This study investigates contextual and environmental stimuli effects (content richness [CR], self-directed learning [SDL] and situational interest [SI]) from a podcast English learning context on learners’ experience states (cognitive absorption [CA], pleasure [PL] and arousal [AR]) and their subsequent responses (continuance learning intention [CLI]). Design/methodology/approach Using 416 valid responses from five universities located in North Taiwan, data analysis is performed using a structural equation model. Findings The results show that most of the interest factor stimuli (CR, SDL and SI) have significant impacts on learners’ experiences (CA, PL and AR), which in turn affect their CLI. Practical implications The findings provide useful insights for English show podcasters and operators to invest in establishing learners’ interest factor and stimulating experiences to improve their CLI. Originality/value This paper contributes to a better understanding of students who use contextual factors of podcast English learning and how these factors influence their CLI via a framework of stimulus–organism–response and the IDC theory.

PurposeWith the advancements of Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years, smart objects (SOs) have been widely applied in the lives of consumers to fulfill a variety of functions. This research aims to explore the new interaction experience between consumers and a smart speaker that can create the effect of customer engagement by enhancing the gendered voice and product smartness.Design/methodology/approachThis study conducted a 2 × 2 × 2 between-subject experiment to validate the research model and the hypotheses.FindingsThe results indicate that a high level of interaction experience between the users and smart speaker devices increases customer engagement. Smart speaker devices that present female voices have a high product smartness, whereas high levels of interaction experience are more effective in customer engagement. Furthermore, the results also show a moderate effect of gendered voice and product smartness between the interaction experience levels and customer engagement.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the assemblage theory and the interaction experience levels between users and smart speaker devices in IoT. Based on the results, suggestions on enhancing the smartness ability and application services of new smart speaker devices are proposed. The findings of this study can promote a more continuous interaction between users and smart speakers.

Virtual reality (VR) has been shown to be a potential research tool, yet the gap between traditional and VR behavioral experiment systems poses a challenge for many behavioral researchers. To address the challenge posed, the present study first adopted a modularity design strategy and proposed a five-module architectural framework for a VR behavioral experiment system that aimed to reduce complexity and costs of development. Applying the five-module architectural framework, the present study developed the SkyrimVR-based behavioral experimental framework (SkyBXF) module, a basic experimental framework module that adopted and integrated the classic human behavior experiment structure (i.e., session-block-trial model) with the modifiable VR massive gaming franchise The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR. A modified version of previous behavioral research to investigate the effects of masked peripheral vision on visually-induced motion sickness in an immersive virtual environment was conducted as a proof of concept to showcase the feasibility of the proposed five-module architectural framework and the SkyBXF module developed. Behavioral data acquired through the case study were consistent with those from previous behavioral research. This indicates the viability of the proposed five-module architectural framework and the SkyBXF module developed, and provides proof that future behavioral researchers with minimal programming proficiency, 3D environment development expertise, time, personnel, and resources may reuse ready-to-go resources and behavioral experiment templates offered by SkyBXF to swiftly establish realistic virtual worlds that can be further customized for experimental need on the go.

BackgroundPrevious studies suggest that alcohol dependence is associated with depression, however, the effect of alcohol dependence varies from individual to individual, which may be due to different genetic backgrounds. The interactions between alcohol dependence and different gene polymorphisms may finally shape the onset of depression. Neuropeptide Y (NPY), which can maintain homeostasis from high-stress stimulation, may protect individuals from the onset of depression. Here, we explored whether the NPY rs16147:T>C has an association with depression in individuals with alcohol dependence during the period of alcohol dependence withdrawal.MethodsA total of 455 males with alcohol dependence were recruited. The scale of Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST) and Self-Depression Scale (SDS) were respectively used to analyze the condition of alcohol dependence and depression. Genomic DNA was extracted from each blood sample and NPY polymorphisms were genotyped. The interaction between NPY rs16147:T>C and alcohol dependence on depression was first analyzed. Then, region of significance analysis was used to confirm which model provided the best fit for the interaction (diathesis-stress or differential susceptibility). Finally, by using internal replication analyses, the accuracy and robustness of the interaction results were improved.ResultsAlcohol dependence was positively correlated with depression. CC homozygotes of NPY rs16147:T>C exhibited less depression when exposed to low alcohol dependence, but more depression when exposed to high alcohol dependence. Individuals with the T allele showed the opposite result.ConclusionNPY rs16147:T>C might be correlated with susceptibility for depression in males during alcohol dependence withdrawal. The findings support the differential susceptibility model.

BACKGROUND: Medical staff scheduling problems are complex and involve numerous constraints. OBJECTIVE: This research uses the task-technology fit (TTF) model to measure the technology characteristics of information technology (IT) systems as a reference for constructing a prototype for a medical staff scheduling system to identify function requirements and design human interfaces. METHOD: After the evaluation of the proposed scheduling system, this research excludes compatibility from the 13 technology characteristics and adds two technology characteristics for consideration: customization and scalability. RESULTS: Based on the revised technology characteristics of the TTF model, this research develops flexible scheduling functions to satisfy daily manpower requirements and allow predetermined schedules and day-off reservations for a hospital’s radiological technologists. Characterized by flexibility, customization, and scalability, the system can accommodate several algorithms to generate a better schedule that satisfies hard and soft constraints. Furthermore, the scheduler can choose the required hard and soft constraints from all constraints. The prototype of the scheduling system will be easily extended to add or modify constraints in the case of requirement or regulation changes. CONCLUSION: The results of this study provide a prototype for system developers to design a customized staff scheduling system for each medical unit.

ObjectiveAlcohol dependence can increase the level of anxiety. A growing body of research has identified a link between anxiety symptoms of problem drinkers and their genetic or environment factors, respectively. However, to date few studies have directly examined gene-environment (G × E) interaction on their anxiety symptoms during the acute alcohol withdrawal. The present study aims to examine the interaction between the proopiomelanocortin (POMC) rs2071345 polymorphism and alcohol dependence on anxiety symptoms of male problem drinkers, and further test the exact form of interaction on two competing models: the diathesis-stress model vs. the differential susceptibility model.MethodsA total of 440 male problem drinkers (Mage = 44.5 years, SD = 9.45) were recruited from nine main psychiatric hospitals of northern China during acute alcohol withdrawal. Blood samples were collected for genotyping, self-reported anxiety symptoms, and levels of alcohol dependence were assessed.ResultsResults indicated that the POMC rs2071345 polymorphism significantly moderated anxiety symptoms associated with alcohol dependence. A region of significance (RoS) test showed that male problem drinkers with T allele were more likely to experience more anxiety symptoms than those with CC homozygote when the standardized score of concurrent alcohol dependence was above 0.31. Confirmatory model evaluation indicated that the interaction effect involving POMC gene polymorphism conformed to the diathesis-stress model rather than differential-susceptibility model of person × environment interaction.ConclusionsThis study suggested that the SNP in POMC rs2071345 was associated with alcohol dependence in anxiety symptoms of male problem drinkers and further provided evidence in support of the diathesis-stress hypothesis of alcohol dependence in terms of anxiety symptoms.

Double-J stent (DJ) placement is usually the treatment of choice for relieving external compression of the ureter. However, in some cases DJ function may become impaired and a percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) may be required. Previous studies have reported different predictive factors for choosing PCN or DJ insertion as the initial treatment. In this study, we analyzed the risk factors for DJ failure in patients with external ureteral compression. Our results showed that the patients with moderate and severe hydronephrosis (p-value = 0.0171 and 0.0249, respectively), preexisting pyuria (p-value = 0.0128), or lower ureter obstruction (p-value = 0.0305) were more prone to DJ laterality. Age was also an important predictor. Urologists should pay more attention to these patients and consider PCN as the initial treatment.

Steroids have been shown to be beneficial in patients and mice with eosinophilic meningitis caused by Angiostrongylus cantonensis infection; however, the mechanism for this beneficial effect is unknown. We speculated that the effect of steroids in eosinophilic meningitis caused by A. cantonensis infection may be mediated by the downregulation of matrix metallopeptidase-9 (MMP-9) and oxidative stress pathways via glucocorticoid receptors (GRs). We found blood–brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction in mice with eosinophilic meningitis 2–3 weeks after infection as evidenced by increased extravasation of Evans blue and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) albumin levels. The administration of dexamethasone significantly decreased the amount of Evans blue and CSF albumin. The effect of dexamethasone was mediated by GRs and heat shock protein 70, resulting in subsequent decreases in the expressions of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) in the CSF and brain parenchymal after 2 weeks of steroid administration. Steroid treatment also decreased CSF/brain homogenate MMP-9 concentrations, but had no effect on CSF MMP-2 levels, indicating that MMP-9 rather than MMP-2 played a major role in BBB dysfunction in mice with eosinophilic meningitis. The concentration of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) gradually increased after 1–3 weeks of infection, and the administration of dexamethasone significantly downregulated the concentration of oxidized derivative 8-OHdG in CSF. In conclusion, increased 8-OHdG and MMP-9 concentrations were found in mice with eosinophilic meningitis caused by A. cantonensis infection. The effect of dexamethasone was mediated by GRs and significantly decreased not only the levels of 8-OHdG and MMP-9 but also NF-κB, JNK and ERK.

Background The introduction of noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features (NIFTP) altered the practice of thyroid pathology and reduced the risk of malignancy (ROM) associated with the indeterminate categories in the Bethesda system for reporting thyroid cytopathology (TBSRTC). It has been proposed that the evaluation of the risk of neoplasm (RON) is important in cytologic-histologic correlation studies. Methods A total of 5224 thyroid aspirates were performed at our institution during an 8-year period. Of the 1475 cases (28%) with surgical follow-up, the histologic diagnoses comprised benign non-neoplastic (BNN, n = 669), follicular adenoma (FA, n = 188), NIFTP (n = 42), papillary microcarcinoma (PMC) (n = 223), and malignant neoplasm excluding PMC (n = 353). The RON was calculated to include neoplasia with low risk biologic behavior (FA, NIFTP, PMC) and malignant neoplasms. In contrast, the ROM was reserved for malignant neoplasms excluding PMC. Results The RON for each TBSRTC category was: nondiagnostic (ND) 38.3%, benign 20.9%, atypia of undetermined significance/follicular lesion of undetermined significance (AUS/FLUS) 63.2%, follicular neoplasm or suspicious for follicular neoplasm (FN/SFN) 83.9%, suspicious for malignancy (SFM) 94%, and malignant 100%. The ROM excluding PMC was: ND 14%, benign 1.6%, AUS/FLUS 17.8%, FN/SFN 28.4%, SFM 84.4%, and malignant 99.5%. Conclusions The RON and ROM support the recommended management guidelines from TBSRTC for all categories, except for FN/SFN. Histopathologic follow-up of FN/SFN aspirates in our study contain a very high rate of neoplasm (83.9%), which might support the management preference of conservative surgery.

PurposeThis study aimed to develop and validate an online live streaming perceived servicescape (OLSPS) scale that can help platform service providers to develop strategies for new live streaming channel promotions.Design/methodology/approachThis study conceptualized the construct of OLSPS and the four-phase procedure of the 66-item OLSPS scale development, including item generation, item purification, scale validation, measure application and testing of hypotheses. It also provided a research framework to assess audiences' cognition and behavioral intention, and an online survey on 420 live streaming users (social platforms, n = 210; native platforms, n = 210) was conducted.FindingsThis study developed and validated a 35-item OLSPS scale with eight dimensions. The results of the empirical model showed that OLSPS is positively correlated with the audiences' cognition and behavioral intention. Furthermore, parasocial interaction experience showed a positive moderation on channel trust.Originality/valueThis study is a pioneering effort to develop and validate an OLSPS scale. The results could be helpful for researchers in building OLSPS and for managers in assessing and promoting users' acceptance of online live streaming platforms.

Clinical empathy refers to the ability of healthcare providers (HP) to recognize and understand what patients feel. While neuroimaging investigations have identified a neural network of empathy, activation consistency of brain regions and their specific functions in clinical empathy remains unclear. Herein, we conducted meta-analyses of dispositional assessments using random-effects models and functional neuroimaging using Seed-based d Mapping with Permutation of Subject Images to ascertain the shared neural processes consistently identified as relevant to clinical empathy. The dispositional meta-analysis (n = 15) revealed that HP exhibited higher scores on empathic concern and perspective taking. The HP neuroimaging meta-analysis (n = 11) identified consistent activation of the anterior mid-cingulate cortex, anterior insula, and ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (vlPFC) while HP vs. controls comparison (n = 9) did not yield robust alterations. The vlPFC mediated positive and negative functional connectivity of the insula. We revisited the framework of emotion regulation in clinical empathy. The empathetic agent flexibly shifts between affective regulatory strategies to meet contextual demands, with vlPFC figuring as the key region where this neural mechanism takes place.

Squamous and anaplastic thyroid cancers are the most aggressive and life-threatening cancer types in humans, with the involvement of lymph nodes in 59% of cases and distant metastases in 26% of cases of all thyroid cancers. The median survival of squamous thyroid cancer patients is 8 months and therefore is of high clinical concern. Here, we show that both VEGFC and VEGFR2/KDR are overexpressed in thyroid cancers, indicating that VEGF/VEGFR signaling plays a carcinogenic role in thyroid cancer development. Using CRISPR/Cas9, we established a KDR knockout (KO) SW579 squamous thyroid cancer cell line that exhibited dramatically decreased colony formation and invasion abilities (30% and 60% reduction, respectively) when compared to scrambled control cells. To validate the potential of KDR as a therapeutic target for thyroid cancers, we used the KDR RTK inhibitor sunitinib. Protein analysis and live/dead assay were performed to demonstrate that sunitinib significantly inhibited cell growth signal transduction and induced cell apoptosis of SW579 cells. These results suggest that selective targeting of KDR may have potential for development into novel anti-cancer therapies to suppress VEGF/VEGFR-mediated cancer development in patients with clinical advanced thyroid cancer.

Exosomes are effective therapeutic vehicles that may transport their substances across cells. They are shown to possess the capacity to affect cell proliferation, migration, anti-apoptosis, anti-scarring, and angiogenesis, via the action of transporting molecular components. Possessing immense potential in regenerative medicine, exosomes, especially stem cell-derived exosomes, have the advantages of low immunogenicity, minimal invasiveness, and broad clinical applicability. Exosome biodistribution and pharmacokinetics may be altered, in response to recent advancements in technology, for the purpose of treating particular illnesses. Yet, prior to clinical application, it is crucial to ascertain the ideal dose and any potential negative consequences of an exosome. This review focuses on the therapeutic potential of stem cell-derived exosomes and further illustrates the molecular mechanisms that underpin their potential in musculoskeletal regeneration, wound healing, female infertility, cardiac recovery, immunomodulation, neurological disease, and metabolic regulation. In addition, we provide a summary of the currently effective techniques for isolating exosomes, and describe the innovations in biomaterials that improve the efficacy of exosome-based treatments. Overall, this paper provides an updated overview of the biological factors found in stem cell-derived exosomes, as well as potential targets for future cell-free therapeutic applications.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) gene mutations in humans and mice lead to whole-body insulin resistance and partial lipodystrophy. It is unclear whether preserved fat depots in partial lipodystrophy are beneficial for whole-body metabolic homeostasis. We analyzed the insulin response and expression of metabolic genes in the preserved fat depots of PpargC/- mice, a familial partial lipodystrophy type 3 (FPLD3) mouse model resulting from a 75% decrease in Pparg transcripts. Perigonadal fat of PpargC/- mice in the basal state showed dramatic decreases in adipose tissue mass and insulin sensitivity, whereas inguinal fat showed compensatory increases. Preservation of inguinal fat metabolic ability and flexibility was reflected by the normal expression of metabolic genes in the basal or fasting/refeeding states. The high nutrient load further increased insulin sensitivity in inguinal fat, but the expression of metabolic genes became dysregulated. Inguinal fat removal resulted in further impairment of whole-body insulin sensitivity in PpargC/- mice. Conversely, the compensatory increase in insulin sensitivity of the inguinal fat in PpargC/- mice diminished as activation of PPARγ by its agonists restored insulin sensitivity and metabolic ability of perigonadal fat. Together, we demonstrated that inguinal fat of PpargC/- mice plays a compensatory role in combating perigonadal fat abnormalities.

Objective: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is the most common substance use disorder, which may relate to increased impulsivity. A more detailed understanding of the potential moderating factor on association between AUD and impulsivity is likely to have far-reaching effects. This study aims to examine whether the interaction between a genetic variant ZNF804A rs1344706 and alcohol use is related to impulsivity in Chinese Han adult males diagnosed with AUD.Methods: A total of 455 Chinese Han adult males diagnosed with AUD were included in this study. Impulsivity was assessed using Barratt Impulsiveness Scale. Alcohol dependence was measured by Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood of participants and genotyped.Results: Hierarchical multiple regression yielded a significant interaction between ZNF804A rs1344706 and alcohol use (β = 0.20, p = 0.0237). Then, A region of significance (RoS) test was performed to interpret the interaction effect. Re-parameterized regression models revealed that the interaction between ZNF804A rs1344706 and alcohol problem severity fit to the weak diathesis-stress model (R2 = 0.15, p < 0.0010), indicating that the T allele carriers are more susceptible to alcohol problem severity, jointly contributing to impulsivity.Conclusions: This study, which analyzed a specific gene-environment interaction, demonstrated that carriers of the T allele of ZNF804A rs1344706 may be more susceptible to alcohol problem severity, correlated with higher levels of impulsivity during withdrawal.

Industrial developments that occurred today are fast; we are living in an era of sophisticated technology. Indonesia ranked second (24.3%) among countries where the adoption of mobile payment apps is growing most fast. One of the most developed services is the mobile wallet. Observing this phenomenon, researchers decided to examine what factors influence mobile wallet adoption and whether the offers made by mobile wallet platforms affect the adoption of technology. This research employs an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to understand what influences the intention to adopt the mobile wallet. We investigated those variables-perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived risk, social influence, mobility and price sensitivity. Online questionnaires were distributed, and a sample of 221 respondents was collected for analysis through the structural equation model (SEM) approach with AMOS software. The findings from the study revealed that perceived ease of use, social influence, and mobility significantly impact society's behavioral intention to adopt mobile wallets. In contrast, perceived usefulness and perceived risk do not significantly impact society to adopt a mobile wallet. Perceived ease of use, social influence, and mobility have a positive relationship with adopting a mobile wallet. However, the price sensitivity variable was eliminated.

IntroductionThe aim of this study was to develop and validate a new diabetes distress scale suitable for Chinese and Taiwanese culture.MethodsThis study collected the current diabetes distress measurement tools, re-organized current definitions about the domains of diabetes distress, and then developed a new tool. Three hundred and ninety-five participants from four hospitals in northern Taiwan were recruited by cluster randomized sampling for validity test.ResultsWe found the new diabetes distress scale had appropriate reliability and validity, including an acceptable model fit for the 12-item scale.ConclusionsThis new diabetes distress scale might be more directly related to emotional distress issues blood glucose control, improve the clinical conspicuity of diabetes distress, and even benefit the overall care of diabetic patients in Taiwan. Further studies about the validity and reliability of this new tool in a nationwide setting are needed.

There is insufficient evidence to prove the effect of the Post-acute Care (PAC) program on post-stroke recovery. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the PAC versus traditional inpatient rehabilitation (non-PAC) for middle- and old-aged stroke survivors. This multicenter cohort study enrolled 334 stroke patients admitted for post-stroke rehabilitation. The outcome variables included the Barthel Index (BI), Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS), Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA-SF), EuroQoL-5D (EQ-5D), Lawton–Brody Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Scale, and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). The inverse-probability-of-treatment-weighting method was used to analyze the differences in outcomes between the PAC and non-PAC groups. The PAC group showed better improvements in BI, MNA-SF, EQ-5D, Instrumental ADL, and MMSE compared to the non-PAC group, with differences in effect sizes of 0.54 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.38–0.71), 0.26 (95% CI 0.10–0.42), 0.50 (95% CI 0.33–0.66), 0.44 (95% CI 0.28–0.60) and 0.34 (95% CI 0.17–0.50), respectively. The PAC project showed more improvement in basic and instrumental ADL and status of swallowing, nutrition, and cognition than those of non-PAC, which had less length of stay restricted by the National Health Insurance. More studies are warranted to investigate the influence of hospital stay and duration from stroke onset on the PAC’s effectiveness.

Stimulated Raman scattering is ubiquitous in many high-intensity laser environments. Parametric four-wave mixing between the pump and Raman sidebands can affect the Raman gain, but stringent phase matching requirements and strongly nonlinear dynamics obscure clear understanding of its effects at high laser powers. Here we investigate four-wave mixing in the presence of strong self-focusing and weak ionization at laser powers above the Kerr critical power. Theoretical analysis shows that the plasma generated at focus naturally leads to phase matching conditions suitable for enhanced Raman gain, almost without regard to the initial phase mismatch. Multidimensional nonlinear optical simulations with multiphoton and collisional ionization confirm the enhancement and suggest that it may lead to significantly higher Raman losses in some high-intensity laser environments.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a global health issue that affects at least 10 million people per year. Neuronal cell death and brain injury after TBI, including apoptosis, inflammation, and excitotoxicity, have led to detrimental effects in TBI. 2, 3, 5, 4'-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-beta-D-glucoside (THSG), a water-soluble compound extracted from the Chinese herb Polygonum multiflorum, has been shown to exert various biological functions. However, the effects of THSG on TBI is still poorly understood. THSG reduced L-glutamate-induced DNA fragmentation and protected glial and neuronal cell death after L-glutamate stimulation. Our results also showed that TBI caused significant behavioral deficits in the performance of beam walking, mNSS, and Morris water maze tasks in a mouse model. Importantly, daily administration of THSG (60 mg/kg/day) after TBI for 21 days attenuated the injury severity score, promoted motor coordination, and improved cognitive performance post-TBI. Moreover, administration of THSG also dramatically decreased the brain lesion volume. THSG reduced TBI-induced neuronal apoptosis in the brain cortex 24 h after TBI. Furthermore, THSG increased the number of immature neurons in the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the dentate gyrus (DG) of the hippocampus. Our results demonstrate that THSG exerts neuroprotective effects on glutamate-induced excitotoxicity and glial and neuronal cell death. The present study also demonstrated that THSG effectively protects against TBI-associated motor and cognitive impairment, at least in part, by inhibiting TBI-induced apoptosis and promoting neurogenesis.

Deception is a complex and cognitively draining dyadic process that simultaneously involves cognitive and emotional processes, both of which demand/capture attentional resources. However, few studies have investigated the allocation of attentional resources between cognitive and emotional processes during deception. The current study presented facial expressions of different valences to 36 participants. While an electroencephalogram was recording, they were asked to make either truthful or deceptive gender judgments according to preceding cues. The results showed that deceptive responses induced smaller P300 amplitudes than did truthful responses. Task-irrelevant negative emotional information (TiN) elicited larger P300 amplitudes than did task-irrelevant positive emotional information (TiP). Furthermore, the results showed that TiN elicited larger LPP amplitudes than did TiP in deceptive responses, but not in truthful ones. The results suggested that attentional resources were directed away to deception-related cognitive processes and TiN, but not TiP, was consistently able to compete for and obtain attentional resources during deception. The results indicated that TiN could disrupt with deception and may facilitate deception detection.

Intense laser interactions in condensed optical media are under study at NRL for several Navy applications, including remote undersea laser acoustic generation and advanced micromachining. We have developed models and simulation codes for nonlinear propagation and interactions in water. Our modeling includes the effects of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS), optical Kerr effect, parametric four-wave mixing (FWM) and nonlinear coupling involving pump, Stokes and anti-Stokes waves, multiphoton and collisional ionization, plasma refraction, diffraction and dispersion. 1 , 2 Our models are incorporated into the SNOPROP 2D axisymmetric nonlinear propagation and interaction simulation code (open-source, in Python). 3 , 4 Our modeling simulations showed good agreement with recent nonlinear propagation experiments. 1 Both our model and code can be used for a variety of condensed dielectric optical media.

Two bipolar hosts, 8-cbzBIFP and 10-cbzBIFP, both with basic skeletons of orthogonally-connected carbazole and benzimidazo〈1,2-f〉phenanthridine (BIFP) have been prepared. The planar structure of the BIFP moiety governs the molecular stacking in the crystal lattice. Electron transport properties, in comparison to the benzimidazole derivatives, are facilitated. Both hosts display fabulous performances in phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes with bis(2-phenylpyridine)(acetylacetonate)iridium(III) as an emitter. The optimized green PhOLED of 10-cbzBIFP achieves the maximum brightness (Lmax) of 58 810 cd m−2, the maximum current efficiency (ηc) of 87.0 cd A−1 and external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 21.1%. Likewise, 8-cbzBIFP shows an Lmax of 58 870 cd m−2, ηc of 77.3 cd A−1 and EQE of 19.1%.
