Introduction We describe a female patient with extreme reactive thrombocytosis (RT) in anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies (ANCA)-associated crescentic glomerulonephritis (CGN) with immune complex deposits, which has never been reported before. Case presentation A female adolescent with symptoms of oliguria and gross hematuresis had serious renal function impairment (crescent formation and immune complex deposits in renal pathology examination with positive serum ANCA) and extreme thrombocytosis. We made a diagnosis of CGN and RT. After treatment with Prednisone, Cyclophosphamide, and plasmapheresis, the symptoms of oliguria and gross hematuresis were relieved remarkably and the serum creatinine and platelet count declined significantly. Conclusions The diagnosis of thrombocytosis is not easy in all cases. The coexistence of ANCA and the immune complex in CGN may cause a severe inflammatory state, leading to extreme RT. The roles that the immune complex and ANCA play on the effect of the platelet count and function in CGN need further research.

Domain knowledge is one of crucial factors to get a great success in requirements elicitation of high quality. In ontology-based requirements engineering, ontology is used to express domain knowledge, so that the inconsistency of domain knowledge can be found by semantic checking. This paper purposes a new algorithm based on Tableaux algorithm to detecting and resolving inconsistencies of ontology. All kinds of consistency rules of domain knowledge are formally defined at first, and then the semantic checking algorithm is presented to resolve these inconsistencies. Finally, a case study is given to show the process and validate the usability of the algorithm.

In order to elicit system requirements correctly and unambiguously, researchers in the requirements engineering community have been studying and developing a number of ontology based approaches. Many of them adopt the single ontology schema, which utilizes a global ontology to describe static knowledge for all domains. However, such ontologies lack dynamic conceptual description and they are difficult to reuse. Based on KADS knowledge modeling, this paper proposes a multiple ontology framework for requirements elicitation and reuse. Besides encapsulating the ontology of domain knowledge, it also includes the top level ontology, task ontology and application ontology. The framework provides a more powerful knowledge base for requirements elicitation and definitely defines the responsibilities of all stakeholders. The process of using the framework is discussed at last.
