Background: With rapid socioeconomic development and transition, associations between socioeconomic status (SES) and hypertension remained uncertain in China. We aimed to examine the health effects of SES on hypertension incidence and explore the sex differences among Chinese adults. Methods: We included 53 891 participants without hypertension from the China-PAR (Prediction for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk in China) project. SES was evaluated by education level, occupation prestige, and household monthly per capita income, and categorized into low, medium, and high groups. Hazard ratios and their 95% CIs were calculated using Cox proportional hazards regression models. Results: Compared with high SES, participants with medium SES (hazard ratio, 1.142 [95% CI, 1.068–1.220]) or low SES (hazard ratio, 1.166 [95% CI, 1.096–1.241]) had increased risks of incident hypertension in multivariate analyses. Interactions between SES and sex on hypertension were observed, with more pronounced adverse effects of lower SES among women. The corresponding hazard ratios (95% CIs) for low SES group were 1.270 (1.155–1.397) for women and 1.086 (0.999–1.181) for men. Effects of occupation prestige on hypertension were the strongest among SES factors. Conclusions: Our study provided the compelling evidence from China that lower SES was associated with incident hypertension and women were more susceptible. These findings will have substantial implications on future hypertension prevention and management, especially among women. Sex-specific approaches are warranted to reduce socioeconomic disparities.

In the current research, researchers focus on new veneers and resin materials, and whether other tetracycline antibiotics induce tetracycline teeth or not.

A string of AgCl/Bi3TaO7 two-component composite was synthesized by hydrothermal and deposition-precipitation process initially. The photocatalytic activities of mixed-phase AgCl/Bi3TaO7 were evaluated toward the decomposition of tetracycline (TC). Among these as-prepared materials, AgCl/Bi3TaO7 nanocomposites when the molar ratio of baked materials between AgCl and Bi3TaO7 was 1:5 presented the optimal photocatalytic quantum efficiency for TC dissociation (86.82%) with visible light exposure, which was 1.69 and 2.38 folders than that of single Bi3TaO7 and AgCl, respectively. What's more, it illustrated that the photogenerated carriers were markedly isolated on account of the formation of heterojunction confirmed by EIS analysis. Meanwhile, radical trapping experiments implied that the photo-induced holes (h+), hydroxyl radical (·OH) and superoxide radical (·O-2) were the major active species. The escalated photocatalytic activity could be ascribed to the unique construction of Z-scheme AgCl/Bi3TaO7 heterojunction, which could expedite charge separation and transmission, cement light absorption capability and retain the strong redox ability of photogenerated electrons and holes. Our finding suggests that AgCl/Bi3TaO7 nanocomposites possess great potential for photocatalytic oxidation of residual TC in the wastewater effluents and the reported strategy can contribute to the development of novel high-performance photocatalyst.

With the rapid development of computer and communication technology, embedded systems are widely used in smart devices. The increasing connectivity of these systems and the difficulties in providing comprehensive security have made such devices vulnerable to malicious attacks. Passive defense technologies and traffic-based intrusion detection technologies are not fully effective against such attacks. Trusted execution environment (TEE) technology can ensure system security against unknown attacks to some extent. Most researchers use TrustZone to implement TEE. However, the problem is that the API interface of the TEE module which provides the service is not secure. Therefore, to actively defend against attacks, we developed a trusted computing active measurement architecture based on TrustZone. To overcome the serious problem that modules in the trusted execution environment need to be passively invoked to provide services, we have proposed an active measurement closed-loop immune mechanism. To reduce the trusted computing base and reduce the performance overhead, we removed certain functional modules from the trusted execution environment. In addition, based on this architecture, we developed a trust chain and dynamic measurement method to ensure the security of the target applications. We changed the traditional attack response method, which requires the entire system to be restarted after an attack, by developing a fallback mechanism that is more suitable for the system. Finally, we verified the effectiveness of the architecture by developing an attack model. Performance testing and analysis showed that the architecture reduced the impact of the security mechanisms on the system. In the future, we will extend our research to more fine-grained measurements.

Background Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) is widely used in clinical practice because of its long retention time and easy maintenance. However, PICC-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) is the most serious complication of PICC. Guidelines recommend exercise therapy to prevent PICC-associated VTE. However, inconsistent findings have been reported across the literature. This study conducted a meta-analysis to further evaluate the effect of exercise therapy on PICC-associated VTE. Methods We searched CNKI, Wanfang database, Chinese Science and Technology Journal Full Text Database, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases and included all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of exercise therapy for the prevention of PICC-associated VTE. Two investigators independently screened the literature, extracted information, and evaluated the risk of bias for eligible RCTs. Meta-analysis was conducted by RevMan5.4 software. Results Eleven RCTs were included, including 1919 patients. Meta-analysis showed that the incidence of PICC-associated VTE was lower in the exercise therapy group than in the usual care group (RR = 0.30, 95% CI: 0.22–0.41, p < 0.00001).Exercise therapy increased the axillary vein maximum velocity (SMD = 0.93, 95% CI: 0.58–1.28, p < 0.00001) and the axillary vein time-mean flow velocity (SMD = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.53–1.20, p < 0.00001). Subgroup analysis showed statistically significant differences for the incidence of PICC-associated VTE for intervention timesConclusions Exercise therapy improved venous blood flow velocity and effectively reduced the incidence of PICC-associated VTE. However, RCTs with large samples and high quality are needed to further evaluate the effectiveness of exercise therapy in PICC patients.

ObjectiveTo examine whether adherence to ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) can mitigate the genetic risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) in non-European populations.MethodsFine and Grey’s models were used to calculate HRs and their corresponding 95% CIs, as well as the lifetime risk of CVH metrics across Polygenic Risk Score (PRS) categories.ResultsWe included 39 755 individuals aged 30–75 years in Chinese prospective cohorts. 1275 CAD cases were recorded over a mean follow-up of 12.9 years. Compared with unfavourable CVH profile (zero to three ideal CVH metrics), favourable CVH profile (six to seven ideal CVH metrics) demonstrated similar relative effects across PRS categories, with the HRs of 0.40 (95% CI 0.24 to 0.67), 0.41 (95% CI 0.32 to 0.52) and 0.36 (95% CI 0.26 to 0.52) in low (bottom quintile of PRS), intermediate (two to four quintiles of PRS) and high (top quintile of PRS) PRS categories, respectively. For the absolute risk reduction (ARR), individuals with high PRS achieved the greatest benefit from favourable CVH, mitigating the risk to the average level of population (from 21.1% to 8.7%), and the gradient was strengthened in individuals at the top 5% of PRS. Moreover, compared with individuals at low PRS, those at high PRS obtained longer CAD-free years (2.6 vs 1.1) from favourable CVH at the index age of 35 years.ConclusionFavourable CVH profile reduced the CAD relative risk by similar magnitude across PRS categories, while the ARR from favourable CVH was most pronounced in high PRS category. Attaining favourable CVH should be encouraged for all individuals, especially in individuals with high genetic susceptibility.

Copper (Cu)-based materials have been extensively studied for nitrate (NO3 −) removal as an inexpensive and abundant electrocatalyst for water purification through the nitrate reduction reaction (NO3RR). However, it typically suffers from nitrite (NO2 −) accumulation due to high selectivity toward nitrite formation. To address this issue, the authors herein report a strategy of modifying copper nanowires with nickel (Ni) nanoparticles to improve the NO3RR performance. The nickel nanoparticles both facilitate electron transfer from nickel to copper and enhance the conversion of nitrite, thereby improving the overall removal of nitrate with a minimal yield of nitrite. Through a facile liquid-phase deposition process, the loading amount of nickel nanoparticles can be easily tailored by simply changing the concentration of precursors, and the best copper/nickel molar ratio for nitrate removal performance is 20. At this ratio, the material simultaneously delivers a high nitrate removal rate of 92.2% and low nitrite selectivity of only 2.2% at −0.9 V against the reversible hydrogen electrode, accompanied with superior stability for a continuous NO3RR. This study thus offers an efficient, stable and low-cost copper–nickel bimetallic catalyst for NO3RR.

Many effective methods extract and fuse different protein features to study the relationship between protein sequence, structure, and function, but different methods have preferences in solving the research of protein structure and function, which requires selecting valuable and contributing features to design more effective prediction methods. This work mainly focused on the feature selection methods in the study of protein structure and function, and systematically compared and analyzed the efficiency of different feature selection methods in the prediction of protein structures, protein disorders, protein molecular chaperones, and protein solubility. The results show that the feature selection method based on nonlinear SVM performs best in protein structure prediction, protein solubility prediction, protein molecular chaperone prediction, and protein solubility prediction. After selection, the accuracy of features is improved by 13.16% ~71%, especially the Kmer features and PSSM features of proteins.

Exploring the characteristic functions of polynucleotide kinase (PNK) could substantially promote the elucidation of PNK-related mechanistic pathways. Yet, the sensitive and reliable detection of intracellular PNK still presents a challenging goal. Herein, we propose a simple autocatalytic hybridization circuit (AHC) foriin situ/iintracellular imaging of PNK with high reliability. The AHC amplifier consists of two mutually activated hybridization chain reaction (HCR) modules for magnified signal transduction. The PNK is transduced into initiatorbI/bby phosphorylation and cleavage of mediatorbH/bsubbp/b/sub. InitiatorbI/bactivates the initial HCR-1 module, leading to the formation of long dsDNA nanowires that carry numerous initiatorbT/b. Then,bT/b-initiated feedback HCR-2 module generates branched products that contain plentiful initiatorbI/b, thus realizing an autocatalytic HCR amplification reaction. Simultaneously, the HCR-2 module is also assembled as a versatile signal transduction unit for generating the amplified readout. Based on the mutually sustained accumulation of two initiators for the reciprocal activation of two reaction modules, continuous signal amplification and assembly of high-molecular-weight copolymers endow the AHC system with high sensitivity and robustness for the PNK assay. Moreover, the PNK-sensing AHC system achieves reliable imaging of intracellular PNK, thus showing great potential to decipher the correlation between PNK and related diseases.

Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) had poor prognosis in patients with brain metastasis. The trial evaluated the safety and efficacy of epitinib (HMPL-813), an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), for EGFR-mutant NSCLC with brain metastasis.This open-label, dose-expansion phase Ib study (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT02590952) was conducted at 7 Chinese centers and enrolled patients with EGFR-mutant advanced NSCLC with brain metastasis. Epitinib was administered at 120 mg or 160 mg, orally QD. The primary endpoint was safety and tolerability.Between April 2015 and April 2019, 72 patients were enrolled and received epitinib at 120 mg (n = 30) or 160 mg (n = 42). Treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) of grade ≥3 occurred in 13 (43.3%) patients in 120 mg group and 21 (50.0%) in 160 mg group. The objective response rate (ORR) was 53.6% (95% CI 33.9%-72.5%) in 120 mg group and 40.5% (25.6%-56.7%) in 160 mg group. The median duration of response in the 120 mg and 160 mg groups were 7.40 months (95% CI 3.70-7.40) and 9.10 months (6.50-12.00), respectively. The median progression-free survival were 7.40 months (95% CI 5.40-9.20) and 7.40 months (5.50-10.00), respectively.In patients with EGFR-mutant NSCLC with brain metastasis, epitinib was well tolerable with a promising efficacy. According to the comprehensive assessment on safety and efficacy, 160 mg QD could be the recommended phase 2 dose.

The causal effects of moderate alcohol consumption on cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are continuously debated, especially on coronary artery disease (CAD).We aimed to explore the causal associations of alcohol consumption with CVDs and all-cause mortality among Chinese males.A prospective cohort study was conducted in 40,386 Chinese males, with 17,676 being genotyped for the rs671 variant in the aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) gene. A Cox proportional hazards model was conducted to estimate the effects of self-reported alcohol consumption. Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to explore the causality using rs671 as an instrumental variable.During the follow-up of 303,353 person-years, 2406 incident CVDs and 3195 all-cause mortalities were identified. J-shaped associations of self-reported alcohol consumption with incident CVD and all-cause mortality were observed, showing decreased risks for light (≤25 g/d) and moderate drinkers (25-≤60 g/d). However, MR analyses revealed a linear association of genetically predicted alcohol consumption with the incident CVD (P-trend = 0.02), including both CAD (P-trend = 0.03) and stroke (P-trend = 0.02). The HRs (95% CIs) for incident CVD across increasing tertiles of genetically predicted alcohol consumption were 1 (reference), 1.18 (1.01, 1.38), and 1.22 (1.03, 1.46). After excluding heavy drinkers, the risk of incident CVD and all-cause mortality was increased by 27% and 20% per standard drink increment of genetically predicted alcohol consumption, respectively.Our analyses extend the evidence of the harmful effect of alcohol consumption to total CVD (including CAD) and all-cause mortality, highlighting the potential health benefits of lowering alcohol consumption, even among light-to-moderate male drinkers.

Background The prognosis of lung cancer varies widely, even in cases wherein the tumor stage, genetic mutation, and treatment regimens are the same. Thus, an effective means for risk stratification of patients with lung cancer is needed. Purpose To develop and validate a combined model for predicting progression-free survival and risk stratification in patients with advanced anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with ensartinib. Material and Methods We analyzed 203 tumor lesions in 114 patients and evaluated average radiomic feature measures from all lesions at baseline and changes in these features after early treatment (Δradiomic features). Combined models were developed by integrating clinical with radiomic features. The prediction performance and clinical value of the proposed models were evaluated using receiver operating characteristic analysis, calibration curve, decision curve analysis (DCA), and Kaplan–Meier survival analysis. Results Both the baseline and delta combined models achieved predictive efficacy with a high area under the curve. The calibration curve and DCA indicated the high accuracy and clinical usefulness of the combined models for tumor progression prediction. In the Kaplan–Meier analysis, the delta and baseline combined models, Δradiomic signature, and two selected clinical features could distinguish patients with a higher progression risk within 42 weeks. The delta combined model had the best performance. Conclusion The combination of clinical and radiomic features provided a prognostic value for survival and progression in patients with NSCLC receiving ensartinib. Radiomic-signature changes after early treatment could be more valuable than those at baseline alone.

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has received increasing interest in cancer treatment, but its clinical application is still constrained by the low activity of sonosensitizers and their unclear mechanism. Herein, a kind of oxygen-deficient manganese oxide (MnO
