There is still controversy about optimal dietary iodine intake as the Universal Salt Iodization policy enforcement in China. A modified iodine balance study was thus conducted to explore the suitable iodine intake in Chinese adult males using the iodine overflow hypothesis. In this study, thirty-eight apparently healthy males (19·1 (sd 0·6) years) were recruited and provided with designed diets. After the 14-d iodine depletion, daily iodine intake gradually increased in the 30-d iodine supplementation, consisting of six stages and each of 5 d. All foods and excreta (urine, faeces) were collected to examine daily iodine intake, iodine excretion and the changes of iodine increment in relation to those values at stage 1. The dose–response associations of iodine intake increment with excretion increment were fitted by the mixed effects models, as well as with retention increment. Daily iodine intake and excretion were 16·3 and 54·3 μg/d at stage 1, and iodine intake increment increased from 11·2 μg/d at stage 2 to 118·0 μg/d at stage 6, while excretion increment elevated from 21·5 to 95·0 μg/d. A zero iodine balance was dynamically achieved as 48·0 μg/d of iodine intake. The estimated average requirement and recommended nutrient intake were severally 48·0 and 67·2 μg/d, which could be corresponded to a daily iodine intake of 0·74 and 1·04 μg/kg per d. The results of our study indicate that roughly half of current iodine intakes recommendation could be enough in Chinese adult males, which would be beneficial for the revision of dietary reference intakes.

Water storage capacity has always been the core component of the underground water reservoir in open-pit coalmines. Taking the western underground water reservoir of Baorixile open-pit coalmine as the research background, boreholes in the waste dump overlying the underground water reservoir were designed and drilled, and the capacity characteristics of the underground water reservoir were studied by a layered summation method. These test results revealed that: (1) the regional strata from shallow to deep are the near-surface loose layer, upper bench loess, mixed stripping material, glutenite water reservoir layer and rubble collecting ditch; and the glutenite water reservoir layer is the main water storage body of the underground water reservoir. (2) Permeability coefficient, porosity, layered and cumulative water storage of the western underground water reservoir in Baorixile open-pit coalmine increase with the elevation increase, and show a quadratic function relationship. (3) The total storage capacity of the underground water reservoir is 1.2234 Mm3, and the average porosity is 0.1003, that is, each volume of the water storage medium can store 0.1003 volume of water. These results provide a scientific basis for the evaluation and determination of the water storage capacity of the underground water reservoir in open-pit coalmines.

We investigated the relationship between interactivity and consumer purchase intention in the context of live-streaming commerce, with consideration of social presence as a mediator. Participants were 339 undergraduate students at six universities in China who had experience of live-streaming commerce. The results indicated that interactivity in live-streaming commerce had a direct and positive relationship with consumers' purchase intention, with social presence acting as a mediator of this relationship. Our findings shed light on how interactivity in live-streaming commerce helps to enhance consumers' purchase intention. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

In order to decrease the influence of system parameters and load on the dynamic performance of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) in cooperative robot joint modules, a practical model-based robust control method was proposed. It inherits the traditional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control and robust control based on error and model-based control. We first set up the nominal controller using the dynamics model. In order to limit the influence of uncertainty on dynamic performance, a robust controller is established based on Lyapunov method. The control can be regarded as an improved PID control or a redesigned robust control. Compared with the traditional control method, it is simple to implement and has practical effects. It is proved by theoretical analysis that the controller can guarantee the uniform boundedness and uniform final boundedness of the system. In addition, the prototype of fast controller cSPACE is built on the experiment platform, which averts long-time programming and debugging. It offers immense convenience for practical operation. Finally, numerical simulation and real-time experiment results are presented. Based on cSPACE and a PMSM in the joint module of a practical cooperative robot, the availability of the control design and the achievable control performance are verified.

Purpose We re-explored the basal iodine requirement based on healthy Chinese female and a new iodine overflow theory was proposed for iodine balance study. Methods Thirty-six Chinese healthy female adults (age 20.7 ± 1.1) were recruited for this study, which included 40 days low iodine depletion period and six stages of 30 days supplementation period. Uniform diets with low iodine were provided and the content of iodine in the diet was regulated by dairy products. The total iodine intake from food and the total iodine excretion through 24-h urine and staged feces were completely gathered and monitored. The incremental (Δ) intake and excretion over the range were calculated. Results The iodine intake and excretion were 13.6 μg/day and 48.6 μg/day at the first stage, respectively. The incremental iodine intakes and excretions were 21.1 μg/day to 120.3 μg/day and 25.8 μg/day to 105.4 μg/day for the supplementation stages, respectively. According to the ‘iodine overflow theory’, the zero iodine balance (Δ iodine intake = Δ iodine excretion) derived from a mixed effect model indicated a mean iodine intake of 52.2 μg/d (1.0 μg/d kg). The RNI for iodine to healthy Chinese female adult was 73.1 μg/d (1.4 μg/d kg). Conclusion A daily iodine intake of 52.2 μg/d may meet the basal iodine requirement for healthy Chinese female adults, and Chinese female may need more than 20% iodine intake than male based on the ‘iodine overflow theory’. The trial was registered at the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry in May 2018 (No: ChiCTR1800016184).

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are usually engendered in rice under the conditions of aerobic environment, resulting in peroxidative changes on polyunsaturated fatty acids, affecting the deterioration of rice during the process of storage. Meanwhile, as an important enzymes participated in cleaning up ROS, peroxidase also existed in rice, which takes part in protecting rice from the assault of ROS. Moreover, the loss of peroxidase activity may give rise to the deterioration of rice during the process of storage. Therefore, measuring the activity of peroxidase makes it possible to distinguish the freshness of rice. In addition, peroxidase can also catalyze luminol - hydrogen peroxide system. Based on this, we have established a new method of chemiluminescence (CL) to detect the freshness of stored rice in this work. Under the optimal experimental conditions, it proves that the freshness of rice can be distinguished with the method of CL. This is the first time to detect the freshness of rice by the method of CL, opening up a novel direction for the application of CL.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide. The tumor microenvironment exerts crucial effects in driving CRC progression. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) serve as one of the most important tumor microenvironment components promoting CRC progression. This study aimed to elucidate the novel molecular mechanisms of CAF-secreted insulin-like growth factor (IGF) 2 in colorectal carcinogenesis. Our results indicated that IGF2 was a prominent factor upregulated in CAFs compared with normal fibroblasts. CAF-derived conditioned media (CM) promoted tumor growth, migration, and invasion of HCT 116 and DLD-1 cells. IGF1R expression is significantly increased in CRC, serving as a potent receptor in response to IGF2 stimulation and predicting unfavorable outcomes for CRC patients. Apart from the PI3K-AKT pathway, RNA-seq analysis revealed that the YAP1-target signature serves as a prominent downstream effector to mediate the oncogenic signaling of IGF2-IGF1R. By single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and immunohistochemical validation, IGF2 was found to be predominantly secreted by CAFs, whereas IGF1R was expressed mainly by cancer cells. IGF2 triggers the nuclear accumulation of YAP1 and upregulates YAP1 target signatures; however, these effects were abolished by either IGF1R knockdown or inhibition with picropodophyllin (PPP), an IGF1R inhibitor. Using CRC organoid and in vivo studies, we found that cotargeting IGF1R and YAP1 with PPP and verteporfin (VP), a YAP1 inhibitor, enhanced antitumor effects compared with PPP treatment alone. In conclusion, this study revealed a novel molecular mechanism by which CAFs promote CRC progression. The findings highlight the translational potential of the IGF2-IGF1R-YAP1 axis as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for CRC. © 2022 The Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland.

This study intends to discuss mechanism of miR-488-5p carried with magnetic carbon nanotubes (MAGCNTs) in restraining lymphatic metastasis in cervical cancer through induction of mTOR/P70S6K signaling pathway. Fifty female rats were randomly divided into five sets, which included control set, miR-488-5p set, empty carrier set, set of miR-488-5p carrier and inhibitor set. The MAGCNTs were prepared and characterized. Condition and quantity of lymphatic metastasis in cervical cancer, miR-488-5p expression and protein expression of factors related with mTOR/P70S6K signaling transduction pathway were observed. Quantity of lymphatic metastasis in the control set was highest, while quantity of lymphatic metastasis in the set of miR-488-5p and carrier were lowest. Expressions of miR-488-5p in of the miR-488-5p and carrier sets were highest and lowest in the control set, and mTOR/P70S6K expression was reversed. miR-488-5p was carried with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and entered into cells more rapidly. There was over expression of miR-488-5p and activity of mTOR/P70S6K signaling pathway was restrained. The information conduction was slowed down, and therefore, the lymphatic metastasis in the cervical cancer was restrained.

Osteogenesis is tightly correlated with angiogenesis during the process of bone development, regeneration, and remodeling. In addition to providing nutrients and oxygen for bone tissue, blood vessels around bone tissue also secrete some factors to regulate bone formation. Type H vessels which were regulated by platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) were confirmed to couple angiogenesis and osteogenesis. Recently, preosteoclasts have been identified as the most important source of PDGF-BB. Therefore, inhibiting osteoclast maturation, improving PDGF-BB secretion, stimulating type H angiogenesis, and subsequently accelerating bone regeneration may be potent treatments for bone loss disease. In the present study, aucubin, an iridoid glycoside extracted from Aucuba japonica and Eucommia ulmoides, was found to inhibit bone loss in ovariectomized mice. We further confirmed that aucubin could inhibit the fusion of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP)+ preosteoclasts into mature osteoclasts and indirectly increasing angiogenesis of type H vessel. The underlying mechanism is the aucubin-induced inhibition of MAPK/NF-κB signaling, which increases the preosteoclast number and subsequently promotes angiogenesis via PDGF-BB. These results prompted that aucubin could be an antiosteoporosis drug candidate, which needs further research.

Finding the biomarkers associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is helpful for understanding the underlying roots of the disorder and can lead to earlier diagnosis and more targeted treatments. In essence, we are faced with two challenges (i) how to learn a node representation and a clean graph structure from original graph data with high dimensionality and (ii) how to jointly model the procedure of node representation learning, structure learning and graph classification.We propose FSL-BrainNet, an interpretable graph convolution network (GCN) model for jointly Learning of node Features and clean Structures in brain networks for automatic brain network classification and interpretation. We formulate an end-to-end trainable and interpretable framework for graph classification and biomarkers (salient brain regions and potential subnetworks) identification.The experimental results on the ABIDE dataset show that our proposed methods not only achieve improved prediction performance compared with the state-of-the-art methods, but also find a compact set of highly suggestive biomarkers including relevant brain regions and subnetworks to ASD.Through node feature learning and structure learning, our model can simultaneously select important brain regions and identify subnetworks.

Chiral pesticides account for 30% of pesticides. Pesticides are inevitably leached into the groundwater by runoff. At the watershed level, the distribution characteristics of enantiomers in sediments collected from the river network of an agricultural area near the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River were tested, and their potential correlations with the physicochemical properties and microbial communities of the sediments were analyzed. The sediment pollution was serious at sites 8 and 9, with their pollution source possibly being agricultural or industrial sewage. Moreover, there were higher cumulative contents of pesticide residues at sites 4, 8, and 9. Specifically, Cycloxaprid was the most detected chiral pesticide in the study area, followed by Dinotefuran and Diclofop-methyl. Additionally, Ethiprole and Difenoconazole had strong enantioselectivity in the study area. Interestingly, the enantiomers of some chiral pesticides, such as Tebuconazole, had completely different distributions at different sites. Pearson correlation analysis showed that sediment catalase and microbial biomass carbon were important factors for enantioselectivity of chiral pesticides. The effect of sediment physicochemical properties on enantioselective distribution was achieved by influencing the microorganisms in the sediment. Furthermore, the enantioselective distribution of Tebuconazole was closely related to the genus Arenimonas. Overall, the enantioselective distribution of most of the chiral pesticides was positively correlated with the prokaryotic microbial community. This study provides empirical support for agricultural non-point source pollution caused by chiral pesticides, and also lays a research foundation for exploring the factors that affect the fate of chiral pesticides in the environment.

In the present work, Listeria monocytogenes was used as the target strain to investigate the sterilising potential and mechanism of high power pulse microwave (HPPM). Results showed that the inactivation was positively correlated with the pulse frequencies and operating times. The count of Listeria monocytogenes was decreased by 5.09 log CFU/mL under 200 Hz for 9 min, which was used as the optimised condition to further explore the sterilisation mechanism. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images showed that the L. monocytogenes cells of untreated group presented intact surfaces, clear boundary, and its intracellular contents distributed uniformly in the cytoplasm. Following treatment, the cell wall surfaces began to deform in small areas, and cell membranes were severely ruptured, thus resulting in the appearance of electron transmission areas. Extracellular protein and nucleic acid contents, represented by OD260 nm and OD280 nm, increased with the increase in operating time significantly. After treatment, SDS-PAGE profiles of whole-cell proteins displayed that the protein bands became lighter or even disappeared. Na+ K+-ATPase activities and intracellular ATP content decreased by 72.97 and 79.09%, respectively. This was consistent with the cell viability of L. monocytogenes observed by confocal laser scanning microscopy. Overall, the sterilisation mechanism of HPPM on L. monocytogenes may be caused by membrane damage, intracellular component leakage, and energy metabolism hindrance.

Abstract: Acute retinal necrosis normally occurs at the periphery retina and gradually merges and progresses to the posterior pole. Optic neuropathy and central retinal artery occlusion as initial manifestation is very rare. We report the case of a patient with optic neuropathy and central retinal vessels as the first manifestations of acute retinal necrosis. Antiviral drugs, corticosteroids, and drugs that improve blood circulation were given. The necrotic retina and swollen optic disc disappeared gradually. However, the final vision of this eye declined to no light perception. From the first case report in 2001 to now, a total of 8 sporadic cases have been reported. The average onset age is 60.85±14.05 years. Most of them had no history of virus infection. Cardiovascular disease history maybe a risk factor. Acute retinal necrosis should be considered in patients with retinal vascular occlusion accompanied by granulomatous anterior uveitis. Further research is needed to determine whether treatments in addition to antiviral and corticosteroid therapy are needed.

The use of cell cycle inhibitors has necessitated a better understanding of the cell cycle in tumor biology to optimize the therapeutic approach. Cell cycle aberrations are common in cancers, and it is increasingly acknowledged that these aberrations exert oncogenic effects beyond the cell cycle. Multiple facets such as cancer metabolism, immunity and metastasis are also affected, all of which are beyond the effect of cell proliferation alone. This review comprehensively summarized the important recent findings and advances in these interrelated processes. In cancer metabolism, cell cycle regulators can modulate various pathways in aerobic glycolysis, glucose uptake and gluconeogenesis, mainly through transcriptional regulation and kinase activities. Amino acid metabolism is also regulated through cell cycle progression. On cancer metastasis, metabolic plasticity, immune evasion, tumor microenvironment adaptation and metastatic site colonization are intricately related to the cell cycle, with distinct regulatory mechanisms at each step of invasion and dissemination. Throughout the synthesis of current understanding, knowledge gaps and limitations in the literature are also highlighted, as are new therapeutic approaches such as combinational therapy and challenges in tackling emerging targeted therapy resistance. A greater understanding of how the cell cycle modulates diverse aspects of cancer biology can hopefully shed light on identifying new molecular targets by harnessing the vast potential of the cell cycle.

The utilization of laparoscopic and open inguinal hernia repair in China remains unclear. We aim to investigate the rates of laparoscopic and open inguinal hernia repairs and its associated factors at a large hernia center.Data were obtained from the front sheet of medical records of Beijing Chaoyang hospital. Adult inguinal hernia inpatients who underwent hernia repairs between 2013 and 2020 were included. We calculated the overall rates of laparoscopic and open inguinal hernia repairs and compared the rate of laparoscopic repairs between different sex, age groups, types, and sides of inguinal hernias. Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine factors associated with the rate of laparoscopic repairs.14,481 inpatients with inguinal hernia were included. 91.78% were male, 75.43% were more than 50 years, 75.20% were unilateral inguinal hernia, and 64.57% were indirect inguinal hernia. Overall, 49.47% underwent laparoscopic repairs and 50.53% underwent open repairs. Women had lower rate of laparoscopic repair than men, especially in those with unilateral hernias. Bilateral and direct inguinal hernia had higher rates of laparoscopic repair than unilateral and indirect inguinal hernia. Multivariable logistic regression showed that inpatients who were women, 70 years, pantaloon inguinal hernia, with obstruction, and more comorbidities were less likely to have laparoscopic repairs.Around 50% of inguinal hernia patients at a large hernia center underwent laparoscopic repairs, which was more commonly performed in male, young, bilateral inguinal hernia, and inpatients without comorbidities. More efforts were needed to increase the safe and effective laparoscopic utilization among female patients with inguinal hernias.
