Purpose Liver metastasis, a lethal malignancy of gastric cancer (GC) patients, execrably impairs their prognosis. As yet, however, few studies have been designed to identify the driving molecules during its formation, except screening evidence pausing before their functions or mechanisms. Here, we aimed to survey a key driving event within the invasive margin of liver metastases. Methods A metastatic GC tissue microarray was used for exploring malignant events during liver-metastasis formation, followed by assessing the expression patterns of glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and GDNF family receptor alpha 1 (GFRA1). Their oncogenic functions were determined by both loss- and gain-of-function studies in vitro and in vivo, and validated by rescue experiments. Multiple cell biological studies were performed to identify the underlying mechanisms. Results In the invasive margin, GFRA1 was identified as a pivotal molecule involved in cellular survival during liver metastasis formation, and we found that its oncogenic role depends on tumor associated macrophage (TAM)-derived GDNF. In addition, we found that the GDNF-GFRA1 axis protects tumor cells from apoptosis under metabolic stress via regulating lysosomal functions and autophagy flux, and participates in the regulation of cytosolic calcium ion signalling in a RET-independent and non-canonical way. Conclusion From our data we conclude that TAMs, homing around metastatic nests, induce the autophagy flux of GC cells and promote the development of liver metastasis via GDNF-GFRA1 signalling. This is expected to improve the comprehension of metastatic pathogenesis and to provide a novel direction of research and translational strategies for the treatment of metastatic GC patients.

Hostile attribution bias (HAB) has been considered as a risk factor of various types of psychosocial adjustment problem, and contributes to displaced aggression (DA). The neural basis of HAB and the underlying mechanisms of how HAB predicts DA remain unclear.The current study used degree centrality (DC) and resting-sate functional connectivity (RSFC) to investigate the functional connection pattern related to HAB in 503 undergraduate students. Furthermore, the "Decoding" was used to investigate which psychological components the maps of the RSFC-behavior may be related to. Finally, to investigate whether and how the RSFC pattern, HAB predicts DA, we performed mediation analyses.We found that HAB was negatively associated with DC in bilateral temporal poles (TP) and positively correlated with DC in the putamen and thalamus; Moreover, HAB was negatively associated with the strength of functional connectivity between TP and brain regions in the theory of mind network (ToM), and positively related to the strength of functional connectivity between the thalamus and regions in the ToM network. The "Decoding" showed the maps of the RSFC-behavior may involve the theory mind, autobiographic, language, comprehension and working memory. Mediation analysis further showed that HAB mediated the relationship between some neural correlates of the HAB and DA.The current results need to be further tested by experimental methods or longitudinal design in further studies.These findings shed light on the neural underpinnings of HAB and provide a possible mediation model regarding the relationships among RSFC pattern, HAB, and displaced aggression.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most aggressive malignant tumors worldwide. Ferroptosis is a kind of iron-dependent cell death, which is proved to be closely related to tumor progression. In this study, we aim at constructing a ferroptosis-related lncRNAs signature to predict the prognosis of GC and explore potential therapies.Ferroptosis-Related LncRNAs Signature for GC patients (FRLSG) was constructed through univariate Cox regression, the LASSO algorithm, and multivariate Cox regression. Kaplan-Meier analysis, receiver operating characteristic curves, and risk score plot were applied to verify the predictive power of FRLSG. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) and immune infiltration analyses were conducted to explore the potential clinical value of the FRLSG. In addition, drug sensitivity prediction was applied to identify chemotherapeutic drugs with potential therapeutic effect.Five ferroptosis-related lncRNAs (AC004816.1, AC005532.1, LINC01357, AL355574.1 and AL049840.4) were identified to construct FRLSG, whose expression level in GC were confirmed by experimental validation. Kaplan-Meier curve and ROC curve proved the reliability and effectiveness of the FRLSG in predicting the prognosis for GC patients. Several immune-related pathways were enriched in the high-FRLSG group, and further immune infiltration analyses demonstrated the high immune infiltration status of the high-FRLSG group. In addition, 19 and 24 candidate drugs with potential therapeutic effect were identified for the high- and low-FRLSG groups, respectively.FRLSG was an effective tool in predicting the prognosis of GC, which might help to prioritize potential therapeutics for GC patients.

Background and AimOver 10% of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases recur each year, even after surgical resection. Currently, there is a lack of knowledge about the causes of recurrence and the effective prevention. Prediction of HCC recurrence requires diagnostic markers endowed with high sensitivity and specificity. This study aims to identify new key proteins for HCC recurrence and to build machine learning algorithms for predicting HCC recurrence.MethodsThe proteomics data for analysis in this study were obtained from the Clinical Proteomics Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC) database. We analyzed different proteins based on cases with or without recurrence of HCC. Survival analysis, Cox regression analysis, and area under the ROC curves (AUROC > 0.7) were used to screen for more significant differential proteins. Predictive models for HCC recurrence were developed using four machine learning algorithms.ResultsA total of 690 differentially expressed proteins between 50 relapsed and 77 non-relapsed hepatitis B-related HCC patients were identified. Seven of these proteins had an AUROC > 0.7 for 5-year survival in HCC, including BAHCC1, ESF1, RAP1GAP, RUFY1, SCAMP3, STK3, and TMEM230. Among the machine learning algorithms, the random forest algorithm showed the highest AUROC values (AUROC: 0.991, 95% CI 0.962–0.999) for identifying HCC recurrence, followed by the support vector machine (AUROC: 0.893, 95% Cl 0.824–0.956), the logistic regression (AUROC: 0.774, 95% Cl 0.672–0.868), and the multi-layer perceptron algorithm (AUROC: 0.571, 95% Cl 0.459–0.682).ConclusionsOur study identifies seven novel proteins for predicting HCC recurrence and the random forest algorithm as the most suitable predictive model for HCC recurrence.

Cyclin-dependent kinase 12 (CDK12) is a transcription-associated kinase that participates in various cellular processes. However, its regulatory role in the progression of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), which is the most prevalent subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), is still elusive and controversial.The expression of CDK12 was detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC), RT-qPCR was performed to detect miR-28-5p expression of OCI-LY3 and SU-DHL-4 cells. MTT and soft agarose colony formation assays were used to detect cell proliferation. The cell apoptosis was determined by flow cytometry. The protein expressions changes of MYC, EZH2 and the biomarkers of BCR signaling were also detected. A subcutaneous transplantation tumor model of OCI-LY3 cells in nude mice was established to evaluate anticarcinogenic activities of CDK12 knockdown. Elevated expression of CDK12 was observed while miR-28-5p was downregulated in DLBCL tissues. CDK12 knockdown or miR-28-5p overexpression could inhibit proliferation and promote apoptosis of DLBCL cells. miR-28-5p inhibition could reverse the effect of CDK12 knockdown on proliferation and apoptosis of DLBCL cells. In addition, CDK12 knockdown could inhibit DLBCL tumor growth in the mice model. CDK12 activated MYC to repress miR-28-5p/EZH2 and amplified tonic BCR signaling to promote the development of DLBCL, which might provide potential therapeutic targets for future therapeutic intervention in DLBCL.

Discovering maximal frequent itemsets is an important issue and key technique in many data mining problems such as association rule mining. In the literature, generating maximal frequent itemsets proves either to be NP-hard or to have O ( l 3 4 l ( m + n ) ) O\left({l}^{3}{4}^{l}\left(m+n)) complexity in the worst case from the perspective of generating maximal complete bipartite graphs of a bipartite graph, where m m , n n are the item number and the transaction number, respectively, and l l denotes the maximum of ∣ C ∣ ∣ Ψ ( C ) ∣ / ( ∣ C ∣ + ∣ Ψ ( C ) ∣ − 1 ) | C| | \Psi \left(C)| \hspace{0.1em}\text{/}\hspace{0.1em}\left(| C| +| \Psi \left(C)| -1) , with the maximum taken over all maximal frequent itemsets C C . In this article, we put forward a method for discovering maximal frequent itemsets, whose complexity is O ( 3 m n 2 β + 4 β n ) O\left(3mn{2}^{\beta }+{4}^{\beta }n) , lower than the known complexity both in the worst case, from the perspective of semigroup algebra, where β \beta is the number of items whose support is more than the minimum support threshold. Experiments also show that an algorithm based on the algebraic method performs better than the other three well-known algorithms. Meanwhile, we explore some algebraic properties with respect to items and transactions, prove that the maximal frequent itemsets are exactly the simplified generators of frequent itemsets, give a necessary and sufficient condition for a maximal i + 1 i+1 -frequent itemset being a subset of a closed i i -frequent itemset, and provide a recurrence formula of maximal frequent itemsets.

The photocatalytic application of graphic carbon nitrate (g-C3N4) was limited due to the shortcomings of few exposed active sites and serious recombination rate of photo-generated carrier. In this paper, B-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets were synthesized by a two-step thermal polymerization method. As-prepared B-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets maintained the initial structure of g-C3N4. The composition analysis results indicated the successful introduction of B element into the g-C3N4 structure. Under visible light irradiation, as-prepared B-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets revealed excellent NO removal and hydrogen production performance, reaching 54% and 1639.29 μmol/g/h, respectively. The superior photocatalytic performance was attributed to the ultrathin nanosheets obtained by thermal exfoliation, which have higher specific surface area and more active sites. The introduction of B enhanced the charge migration and inhibits the recombination of photogenerated carriers. The cyclic experiment indicated that the sample exhibited high stability. Enhanced photocatalytic mechanism from B doping was discussed.

Introduction: Gut dysbiosis has been reported to be closely associated with gout. Washed microbiota transplantation (WMT) is considered as an effective way to restore a healthy gut microbiota with less adverse events than the conventional fecal microbiota transplantation. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of WMT on serum uric acid levels, symptoms, and the intestinal barrier function in patients with acute and recurrent gout. Methods: We performed a pilot study of WMT for acute and recurrent gout. The primary outcome was the changes in the serum uric acid level and gout symptoms. The secondary outcomes included the changes in levels of diamine oxidase (DAO), D-lactic acid, and endotoxin. Results: Eleven patients received WMT treatment. The averaged serum uric acid levels in patients with gout reduced after WMT (p = 0.031), accompanied with a decrease in the frequency and duration time of acute gout flares (p < 0.01). The levels of DAO, D-lactic acid, and endotoxin were higher in patients than in healthy donors (p < 0.05). After WMT treatment, the levels of DAO and endotoxin decreased (p < 0.05). Conclusions: WMT is effective for reducing serum uric acid levels and improving gout symptoms in patients with gout and contributes to improve their impaired intestinal barrier function.

Hydrodynamic damping is a key factor that influencing the amplitude of structural vibration under resonance conditions. In this study, the one-way FSI energy balance method by loading structure mode onto flow field is applied to simulate the hydrodynamic damping. Based on the good solution of vortex shedding frequency, structure natural frequency and mode shape, it provides a good accuracy on both flow field and structural field by predicting the hydrodynamic damping well with deviations less than 10.4%. On the basis, the hydrodynamic damping characteristics of different vibration displacements and the lock-in region are studied and analyzed in detail. Results found that the hydrodynamic damping ratio increases with the increasing of vibration displacement. A displacement interval within 6 × 10−5 m–1.2 × 10−4 m can be detected when the hydrodynamic damping ratio is slightly affected by vibration displacement. It is proved that the value of hydrodynamic damping depends on the combined area of hydrodynamic force and structural velocities. The hydrodynamic damping in the lock-in region changes nonlinearly. Under the resonance condition, the disturbance of the fluid domain increases, and a negative damping value will appear, which will increase the structure vibration amplitude.

In order to reveal the Spatial distribution characteristics of heavy metal(loid)s health risk in soil on the town-scale, 788 topsoil samples were collected from a town in the hinterland of Chengdu Plain, with 5 subordinate communities and 17 administrative villages as the research sub regions. The USEPA health risk assessment model was used to assess the health risks of heavy metal(loid)s Cd, Hg, As, Cu, Pb, Cr, Zn and Ni in the soil, the health risk analysis method system based on the geographic detector and the optimized rank-size theory model are used to clarify the spatial differentiation and risk level difference of health risk in the study area. The results showed that the average values of Cd, Hg, As, Pb, Cr, Cu, Ni and Zn in the soil of the study area were 0.221, 0.155, 9.76, 32.2, 91.9, 35.2, 37.1 and 108.8 mg/kg, respectively. The health risks of heavy metal(loid)s in soil to adults and children are generally within the acceptable range, but the maximum hazard index of children and the maximum non-carcinogenic risk value of Cr to children are 2.653303 and 1.213098 respectively, which were exceeding the acceptable range. The carcinogenic risk of Cr and As to adults and children and the carcinogenic risk of Cd to children are at 1 × 10–4 to 1 × 10–6, exceeding the 10–6 health threshold. The q-value range of heavy metal(loid)s health risk spatial differentiation of soil in the study area is 0.016–0.425. The spatial differentiation of non-carcinogenic risk of Hg, As, Ni, Pb, Cd and Cr and the spatial differentiation of carcinogenic risk of Cr and As are larger, which needs further attention. The strictly controlled area of heavy metal(loid)s health risk in the soil of the study area (R ≥ 1.1) is mainly concentrated in the central, western and northeast sub regions, and most sub regions belong to the safe utilization area (0.9

To study the application of triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-C) combined with liver function indexes to predict metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD).A total of 2971 outpatients diagnosed with MAFLD and 2794 healthy controls were enrolled, and their relevant data were collected. Two-sample Mann-WhitneyThe TG/HDL-C of MAFLD patients was significantly higher than that of healthy controls. In multivariate analysis, after adjusting for body mass index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, uric acid and creatinine, the odds ratio of TG/HDL-C was 2.356 (95% confidence interval [TG/HDL-C is an independent risk factor for MAFLD. TG/HDL-C can well predict MAFLD when it is used in combination with ALT, AST, and ALB.

Aggressive collective action online has many negative impacts on the online environment and can even lead to political violence or social panic in the offline world. Although the effect of relative deprivation on aggression toward the compared object is well known, the influence of relative deprivation on aggressive collective action online toward deprivation-related provocateurs within the group has been ignored. Thus, this study attempted to explore the effect, as well as the mediating mechanism underlying it. We found that group relative deprivation manipulated by an employment problem scenario (with the triggering event as a covariable) can enhance aggressive collective action online toward deprivation-related provocateurs within the group, with hostile feelings mediating the effect. These results support and develop the relative deprivation theory, frustration-aggression theory, stress and coping theory, and deepen the understanding of the relationship between relative deprivation and aggression. The findings also suggest that colleges should focus more on graduate employment problems and decreasing the relative deprivation experienced by undergraduate students in efforts to prevent aggressive collective action online.

AuCu alloy nanoparticles (NPs) were embedded in superior thin g-C

Karman vortices forming behind blades or guide vanes may induce severe vibration and noise in hydraulic machinery. To solve these problems, the trailing edge of vanes or blades is usually trimmed as a remedy. However, this type of modification is not always effective. Based on an engineering project, two sides of the tail of an asymmetric guide vane were modified respectively. The influence of the modification on the wake flow under different inflow conditions was studied using numerical simulation. The results show that, for the studied case, a 45°-bevel cut on the side of a vane with larger velocity gradient near the trailing edge can effectively suppress the Karman vortex. However, the effect of trimming on the side with smaller velocity gradient is poor. These two ways of trimming can reduce the amplitude of the vortex-excitation force by 73.6% and 35.4%, respectively. When guide vanes opening or head increases, the trimming effect is weakened. In addition, the inflow angle and velocity magnitude have a significant impact on the wake flow behind a hydrofoil. When the attacking angle decreases from 0° to –5°, the amplitude of the vortex-excitation force doubles. When the attacking angle increases to 5°, the Karman vortex street almost disappears. The strength of the Karman vortex is related to the difference between the velocity gradient on the two sides of a vane. The greater the difference, the more stable the wake flow.

Objectives This study aimed to investigate whether plasma levels of adenosine, adenosine deaminase (ADA), and certain cytokines change in patients with chronic insomnia disorder (CID), and if so, whether these alterations are associated with poor sleep quality and cognitive dysfunction. Methods Fifty-five CID patients were selected for the study, along with fifty-five healthy controls (HC) matched to the patients according to their basic data. All subjects completed sleep, emotion, and cognition assessments, with some CID patients also completing an overnight polysomnography. The plasma level of adenosine was measured using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry, while ADA level was quantified using a quantitative sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Levels of cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-12, TNF-α, and IFN-γ, were measured using Luminex liquid chip technology. Results CID patients had a lower adenosine level, and higher levels of ADA and some of the cytokines (IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α) compared with controls. In the CID group, plasma concentrations of adenosine were negatively correlated with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores, while concentrations of IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α were positively correlated with these scores. Concentrations of IL-1β and TNF-α were negatively correlated with scores on the Chinese-Beijing Version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Moreover, levels of IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-2 were positively correlated with memory test errors by CID patients after controlling for confounding factors. Conclusions The reduced adenosine and elevated cytokine levels of CID patients were associated with the severity of insomnia and/or cognitive dysfunction.

Introduction: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which mainly leads to diarrhea, fatigue, stool blood, abdominal pain, and cramping, is threatening public health. Tripartite motif-containing 52 (TRIM52) has been reported to play an important role in inflammatory responses via activating the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) pathway. However, the causes of IBD need to be elucidated, and the function of TRIM52 in IBD remains unclear. Here, we demonstrated that TRIM52 aggravated inflammation and pyroptosis in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced IBD by activating TLR4/NF-κBs pathway. Methods: The colitis model was established on mice through DSS induction. For the TRIM52 knock-down, the mice were infected with a recombinant adenoviral vector expressing sgRNAs targeting TRIM52. RT-qPCR, western blot, and immunohistochemistry were performed to verify TRIM52 expression in DSS-induced IBD. The body weight, disease activity index, colon length, and H&E staining were used to assess the IBD symptoms in mice with TRIM52 knockdown. The inflammatory responses were examined by RT-qPCR and ELISA measuring tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin 6 (IL-6), and interleukin 1β (IL-1β). Furthermore, the pyroptosis in colon tissue was detected by western blot. Finally, the TLR4/NF-κBs pathway activity was also examined by western blot. Results: TRIM52 expression was up-regulated in DSS-induced IBD, and knockdown of TRIM52 could alleviate the symptoms of IBD. TRIM52 knockdown retarded DSS-induced inflammatory response and inhibited DSS-induced pyroptosis in colon tissue. In addition, TRIM52 played a role in activating TLR4/NF-κBs pathway. Conclusion: Knockdown of TRIM52 alleviated inflammation and pyroptosis in IBD by regulating TLR4/NF-κBs pathway. TRIM52 is expected to be a novel diagnostic indicator for IBD and a tar-get of therapeutic treatment.

To analyze and compare the efficacy of recombinant human thrombopoietin (rhTPO) and recombinant human interleukin-11 (rhIL-11) in the treatment of thrombocytopenia after chemotherapy in acute leukemia patients.180 patients with acute leukemia complicated with thrombocytopenia after chemotherapy in the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University were analyzed retrospectively. The duration of PLT below 20×10The duration of PLT20×10In the treatment of acute leukemia patients with thrombocytopenia after chemotherapy, compared with rhIL-11, rhTPO can significantly shorten the duration for patients in a status with extremely low levels of PLT and the recovery time of PLT to normal range. Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection is the greatest risk factor for gastric cancer (GC). Increasing evidence has clarified that tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) is closely related to the prognosis and therapeutic efficacy of HP-positive (HP+) GC patients. In this study, we aimed to construct a novel immune-related signature for predicting the prognosis and immunotherapy efficacy of HP + GC patients. A total of 153 HP + GC from three different cohorts were included in this study. An Immune-Related prognostic Signature for HP + GC patients (IRSHG) was established using Univariate Cox regression, the LASSO algorithm, and Multivariate Cox regression. Univariate and Multivariate analyses proved IRSHG was an independent prognostic predictor for HP + GC patients, and an IRSHG-integrated nomogram was established to quantitatively access the prognostic risk. The low-IRSHG group exhibited higher copy number load and distinct mutation profiles compared with the high-IRSHG group. In addition, the difference of hallmark pathways and immune cells infiltration between the two groups was investigated. Notably, tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion (TIDE) analysis indicated that the low-IRSHG group had a higher sensitivity to anti-PD-1 immunotherapy, which was validated by an external pabolizumab treatment cohort. Besides, 98 chemotherapeutic drugs and corresponding potential biomarkers were identified for two groups, and several drugs with potential ability to reverse IRSHG score were identified using CMap analysis. Collectively, IRSHG may serve as a promising biomarker for survival outcome as well as immunotherapy efficacy. Furthermore, it can also help to prioritize potential therapeutics for HP + GC patients, providing new insight for the personalized treatment of HP-infected GC.

Autonomous vehicles, also known as self-driving cars, have the capability to perceive the environment, locate its position, and safely drive to the destination without any human intervention. This field has made amazing improvements because of the advanced technologies and progress of the artificial intelligence (AI) field. While the existing surveys have addressed many topics, e.g., vehicle sensors, perception, and object detection, none of the existing works summarize the work studying the ability of human-like understanding, e.g., common sense reasoning. Therefore, in this article, we present a novel system flow for empowering autonomous vehicles to understand the traffic scene and summarize the state of the art research.

Displaced aggressive behaviour is associated with many negative outcomes. Although certain personality traits predict displaced aggressive behaviour, the uniquely longitudinal effect of indigenous interpersonal traits on displaced aggressive behaviour is ignored. To address this gap, we explored the longitudinal relationship among an indigenously interpersonal trait of China (interpersonal openness), hostile attribution bias, and self-reported displaced aggressive behaviour. Additionally, we tested whether hostile attribution bias mediated the relationship between interpersonal openness and self-reported displaced aggressive behaviour. The Interpersonal Self-Support Scale for Undergraduate Students, Word Sentence Association Paradigm for Hostility, Displaced Aggression Questionnaire, and the NEO Personality Inventory-3 were administered to 942 undergraduates on two occasions, 6 months apart. A cross-lagged model showed that, after controlling for the Big Five personality traits, interpersonal openness predicted subsequent hostile attribution bias, and hostile attribution bias predicted self-reported displaced aggressive behaviour 6 months later. Hostile attribution bias at time 2 mediated the relationship between interpersonal openness at time 1 and self-reported displaced aggressive behaviour at time 2. These results were consistent with the interpersonal self-support theory's appraisals of interpersonal openness, and they extended the social information processing and general aggression models to explain displaced aggressive behaviour.

Background The pathogenesis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is closely associated with the intestinal bacteria composition and their metabolites. Aim To investigate whether washed microbiota transplantation (WMT) improves symptoms of nonerosive reflux disease (NERD) with proton pump inhibitor (PPI) dependency. Methods Patients with recurrent NERD and PPI dependency at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University from 2017 to 2018 were included and divided into a WMT or PPI group treated with PPI with/without WMT. The endpoint was NERD symptom frequency evaluated 1 mo after WMT using reflux disease questionnaire (RDQ) and GERD questionnaire (GERDQ) scores, remission time, PPI dose, and the examination of intestinal mucosal barrier function. Results In the WMT (n = 15) and PPI (n = 12) groups, the total remission rate at 1 mo after treatment was 93.3% vs 41.7%. Compared with the PPI group, the WMT group showed better results in GERDQ (P = 0.004) and RDQ (P = 0.003) and in remission months (8 vs 2, P = 0.002). The PPI dose was reduced to some extent for 80% of patients in the WMT group and 33.3% in the PPI group. In 24 patients, intestinal mucosal barrier function was examined before treatment, and changes in the degree of damage were observed in 13 of these patients after treatment. Only one of the 15 patients had minor side effects, including a mushy stool two or three times a day, which resolved on their own after 1 wk. Conclusion This study is the first to demonstrate that WMT may be safe and effective for relieving NERD symptoms and reducing PPI dependency and recurrence.

We report the nucleation and two dimensional (2D) crystallization of the helical aromatic hydrocarbon pentahelicene ([5]H) on the semimetallic Bi(111) surface studied via low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy. Individual homochiral dimers and heterochiral trimers appear on the substrate at a low coverage. With an increase in the coverage, a chiral phase transition takes place from the 2D conglomerate of [5]H dimers to the 2D racemate of [5]H trimers. The heterochiral [5]H trimers reveal a wavy arrangement due to the swing of 5[H] trimer rows after every second or third trimers. The swing mechanism of the trimer rows can be attributed to the steric repulsion between the adjacent trimers with same handedness.

Improved methods are needed to predict outcomes in biliary tract cancers (BTCs). We aimed to build an immune-related signature and establish holistic models using machine learning. Samples were from 305 BTC patients treated with curative-intent resection, divided into derivation and validation cohorts in a two-to-one ratio. Spatial resolution of T cell infiltration and PD-1/PD-L1 expression was assessed by immunohistochemistry. An immune signature was constructed using classification and regression tree. Machine learning was applied to develop prediction models for disease-specific survival (DSS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). The immune signature composed of CD3+, CD8+, and PD-1+ cell densities and PD-L1 expression within tumor epithelium significantly stratified patients into three clusters, with median DSS varying from 11.7 to 80.8 months and median RFS varying from 6.2 to 62.0 months. Gradient boosting machines (GBM) outperformed rival machine-learning algorithms and selected the same 11 covariates for DSS and RFS prediction: immune signature, tumor site, age, bilirubin, albumin, carcinoembryonic antigen, cancer antigen 19-9, tumor size, tumor differentiation, resection margin, and nodal metastasis. The clinical-immune GBM models accurately predicted DSS and RFS, with respective concordance index of 0.776–0.816 and 0.741–0.781. GBM models showed significantly improved performance compared with tumor-node-metastasis staging system. The immune signature promises to stratify prognosis and allocate treatment in resected BTC. The clinical-immune GBM models accurately predict recurrence and death from BTC following surgery.
