Currently, additive technology is becoming increasingly popular in different areas, including its applications in construction industry. The main aim of the chapter is to show the selected applications of 3D printing technology in the construction industry and the usage of this technology on distinct stages of a construction project, from architectural design to performance of residential buildings and other civil engineering constructions. The chapter is based on a critical analysis of the literature sources, as well as the authors' experiences. The data collected are supported by selected case studies from five projects. The main findings show that 3D printing brings a lot of advantages in the construction industry, for instance: low labour costs, less waste, and high efficiency, but it still requires development and optimization.

This study quantifies the potential effect of the lee vortex on the fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution deterioration under the complex topography in Taiwan using observational data. We select the lee-vortex days that favor the development of the lee vortices in northwestern Taiwan under the southeasterly synoptic winds. We then define the enhancement index that discerns the areas with the high occurrence frequencies of the PM2.5 enhancement under the flow regime relative to the seasonal background concentrations. Under the lee-vortex days, the center of western Taiwan exhibits enhancement indices higher than 0.65. In addition, during the consecutive lee-vortex days, the index characterizes a northward shift in the PM2.5-enhanced areas under the subtle transition of the background wind directions. The areas with indices higher than 0.65 expand on the second day in northwestern Taiwan; the number of stations exhibiting indices higher than 0.8 increases by threefold from the first to the second day. The idealized numerical simulations using the Taiwan vector vorticity equation cloud-resolving model (TaiwanVVM) explicitly resolve the structures of leeside circulations and the associated pollutant transport, and their evolutions are highly sensitive to the background winds. Significance Statement Our study investigates the challenging question of local circulation patterns affected by mountain orography and the associated pollutant transport. We analyzed long-term balloon sounding and ground station observations to select the weather regime favoring the formation of lee vortices on Taiwan island. We then quantified the areas with a frequent enhancement of particulate pollutants. The long-term trend of the lee-vortex days exhibited a significant increase in the past decades. The pollution enhancement areas are highly consistent with the regions dominated by leeside local circulation. Together with the idealized high-resolution simulations, we identified that the detailed evolution of the lee vortices is highly sensitive to the subtle changes in background wind direction and hence the redistribution of local pollution.

In order to realise high ionic conductivity and improved chemical stability, a series of anion exchange membranes (AEMs) with semi-interpenetrating polymer network (sIPN) has been prepared via the incorporation of crosslinked poly(biphenyl N-methylpiperidine) (PBP) and spirobisindane-based intrinsically microporous poly(ether ketone) (PEK-SBI). The formation of phase separated structures as a result of the incompatibility between the hydrophilic PBP network and the hydrophobic PEK-SBI segment, has successfully promoted the hydroxide ion conductivity of AEMs. A swelling ratio (SR) as low as 12.2 % at 80 °C was recorded for the sIPN containing hydrophobic PEK-SBI as the linear polymer and crosslinked structure with a mass ratio of PBP to PEK-SBI of 90/10 (sIPN-90/10

Background To cure advanced hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPSCC), primary operation followed by adjuvant (chemo-)radiotherapy (OP-CRT) or definitive chemoradiation (CCRT) are the two primary options. This study aimed to compare the failure patterns and long-term survival outcomes of HPSCC patients treated with these two strategies. Patients and Methods From 2007 to 2015, 198 pathologically confirmed HPSCC patients receiving either OP-CRT or CCRT were retrospectively reviewed. Failure patterns and survival outcomes stratified by the 7th American Joint Committee on Cancer staging system and treatment modalities were compared. Results One hundred and eighty-nine patients (95.4%) were stage III/IV and 62 patients (31.3%) received OP-CRT. Median follow-up duration was 4.9 years. Compared with CCRT, OP-CRT provided better 3-year local relapse-free survival for T3 (93 vs 48%, p < 0.0001), T4a (88 vs 37%, p = 0.0005) and better 3-year regional relapse-free survival for N2b+2c (93 vs 60%, p < 0.0001). Of note, for stage IVA subjects, OP-CRT provided better 3-year loco-regional relapse-free survival (85 vs 37%, p < 0.0001), marginal poor 3-year distant metastasis-free survival (62 vs 79%, p = 0.06), but comparable 3-year OS (52 vs 44%, p = 0.37) and 5-year OS (44 vs 31%, p = 0.15) compared with CCRT. Conclusions For patients with advanced HPSCC, although OP-CRT and CCRT provided similar overall survival, failure patterns were distinct. OP-CRT provided better loco-regional control but was more likely to encounter distant metastases than CCRT. The detailed analysis of failure patterns will pave the way to improve this devastating disease.

Semiconductor intellectual property (SIP) represents a crucial component of integrated circuit design activities. However, many small SIP firms fail to create value and adopt a viable business model. This article aims to investigate the value creation mechanism within the SIP business by drawing on the business model and dynamic capabilities views of the firm. First, the authors classify the forms and types of SIP from a technology and market perspective. Analyzing ten leading SIP firms, three SIP business models based on resources, competencies, and strategies are then identified. Dynamic capabilities are then linked to the selection and implementation of classified business models. Findings of the study suggest that existing SIP business models primarily favor large vendors. Keystone business model is proposed as a possible successful business model for small vendors. Consequently, this article provides insights and opportunities for leveraging the SIP ecosystem and business model innovation for small firms in the industry.

Poly(aryl piperidinium) (PAP) anion exchange membranes (AEMs) furnish an important avenue for the commercialization of anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs), but their ionic conductivity and alkali resistance still need to be improved. Media framing makes an issue salient. This study attempts to determine the frequency of episodic and thematic frames in news about the Unified Examination Certificate issue and identify the framing dimensions and valence used. Textual analysis of the content and headlines was performed on 100 news articles from newspapers of two languages. Results indicate that all the articles were framed episodically, with the “attribution of responsibility” dimension used most frequently, followed by the “human interest” and “conflict” dimensions. Chinese articles tended to use neutral valance, whereas Malay articles mostly used negative valence. These findings provide insights into ethnic politically-influenced and reader-oriented presentations of an issue by different newspapers. Future studies may focus on newspapers using the same language and investigate the framing effects by mainstream and alternative media.

Extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKTL) is an aggressive and heterogeneous disease. With standard treatment containing pegaspargase-based regimen, patients who were resistant to pegaspargase have rapidly disease progression and worse prognosis. Thus, there is an urgent requirement for constructing ENKTL cell line model to explore the mechanism of pegaspargase resistance and new molecular targeted drugs to improve prognosis. We report here on the establishment of a novel ENKTL cell line, NK-NJ. The cells were isolated from a 52-year-old Chinese man who was diagnosed with relapse/refractory (R/R) ENKTL and grow steadily in vitro. The NK-NJ cells express CD56, CD2, CD45RA with no expression of CD3, CD16, CD57, CD4, CD8, CD26, CD28, CD5, TCR, CD45RO and CD161 and showed a TCR gene unrearrangement, which suggested an origin in the NK-lineage but not T-lineage. The immunophenotypes of NK-NJ cells were consistent with the patient. Moreover, short tandem repeat (STR) profiling results also demonstrated that NK-NJ originated from the patient. NK-NJ showed complex karyotype. Target sequencing method indicated that the main mutation genes of the first-time disease progression of lymph nodal were the same as main mutation genes of the primary nasal lesions. Moreover, NK-NJ was recognized as latency I with EBER positivity and carried high EBV-DNA viral load. The chemosensitivity results suggested synthetic lethality of epigenetic drugs and PD-1 inhibitor for ENKTL patients by reasons of epigenetic drugs promoting PD-L1 expression. In conclusion, we established a new ENKTL cell line in the era of new targeted drugs. We hope that this cell line can help to further understand underlying pathogenesis of ENKTL especially for advanced ENKTL and the functional role of EBV in ENKTL pathogenetic process.

Periodontitis is an oral-bacteria-directed disease that occurs worldwide. Currently, periodontal pathogens are mostly determined using traditional culture techniques, next-generation sequencing, and microbiological screening system. In addition to the well-known and cultivatable periodontal bacteria, we aimed to discover a novel periodontal pathogen by using DNA sequencing and investigate its role in the progression of periodontitis.This study identified pathogens from subgingival dental plaque in patients with periodontitis by using the Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) third-generation sequencing system and validated the impact of selected pathogen in periodontitis progression by ligature-implanted mice.Twenty-five patients with periodontitis and 25 healthy controls were recruited in this study. Subgingival plaque samples were collected for metagenomic analysis. The ONT third-generation sequencing system was used to confirm the dominant bacteria. A mouse model with ligature implantation and bacterial injection verified the pathogenesis of periodontitis. Neutrophil infiltration and osteoclast activity were evaluated using immunohistochemistry and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase assays in periodontal tissue. Gingival inflammation was evaluated using pro-inflammatory cytokines in gingival crevicular fluids. Alveolar bone destruction in the mice was evaluated using micro-computed tomography and hematoxylin and eosin staining.Scardovia wiggsiae (S. wiggsiae) was dominant in the subgingival plaque of the patients with periodontitis. S. wiggsiae significantly deteriorated ligature-induced neutrophil infiltration, osteoclast activation, alveolar bone destruction, and the secretion of interleukin-6, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and tumor necrosis factor-α in the mouse model.Our metagenome results suggested that S. wiggsiae is a dominant flora in patients with periodontitis. In mice, the induction of neutrophil infiltration, proinflammatory cytokine secretion, osteoclast activation, and alveolar bone destruction further verified the pathogenic role of S. wiggsiae in the progress of periodontitis. Future studies investigating the metabolic interactions between S. wiggsiae and other periodontopathic bacteria are warranted.

We conducted a phase I clinical trial of anti-BCMA chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CART-BCMA) with or without anti-CD19 CAR T cells (huCART19) in multiple myeloma (MM) patients responding to third- or later-line therapy (phase A, N = 10) or high-risk patients responding to first-line therapy (phase B, N = 20), followed by early lenalidomide or pomalidomide maintenance. We observed no high-grade cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and only one instance of low-grade neurologic toxicity. Among 15 subjects with measurable disease, 10 exhibited partial response (PR) or better; among 26 subjects responding to prior therapy, 9 improved their response category and 4 converted to minimal residual disease (MRD)–negative complete response/stringent complete response. Early maintenance therapy was safe, feasible, and coincided in some patients with CAR T-cell reexpansion and late-onset, durable clinical response. Outcomes with CART-BCMA + huCART19 were similar to CART-BCMA alone. Collectively, our results demonstrate favorable safety, pharmacokinetics, and antimyeloma activity of dual-target CAR T-cell therapy in early lines of MM treatment.Significance:CAR T cells in early lines of MM therapy could be safer and more effective than in the advanced setting, where prior studies have focused. We evaluated the safety, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy of CAR T cells in patients with low disease burden, responding to current therapy, combined with standard maintenance therapy.This article is highlighted in the In This Issue feature, p. 101

This report collects all the keywords that have appeared in the International Journal of Taiwan Studies since its first issue in February 2018. The authors use these keywords and resulting word clouds to reflect on the current state of Taiwan-related research. We find that publications are still heavily dominated by cross-Strait-related topics and that, despite the aspiration of putting Taiwan in a comparative perspective, the results have so far been relatively limited. We suggest including more topical sections in future issues as one way to diversify the interdisciplinary and comparative scope of the journal.

Facemasks have been proven an effective non-pharmaceutical measure against coronavirus disease-19. Against the backdrop of global mask shortages, Taiwan distinguished herself from other countries in that Taiwan took a whole-of-nation approach to masks and mobilized the society quickly to become self-sufficient in masks. This paper argues that successful virus securitization as a threat to national security was what enabled Taiwan to effectively mobilize the private sector to carry out the state’s will in ensuring adequate mask supply. Moreover, Taiwan securitized the virus more successfully than many other countries because the virus was connected to China, the nation’s existing security threat.

Ceftolozane/tazobactam is an antipseudomonal cephalosporin combined with a well-established β-lactamase inhibitor.Methods: A total of 2038 Gram-negative organisms (376 P. aeruginosa and 1662 Enterobacterales) were collected consecutively using a prevalence-based approach from 11 medical centres. Organisms were susceptibility tested by broth microdilution according to CLSI guidelines. CLSI and EUCAST breakpoint criteria were used.Results: Ceftolozane/tazobactam was the most potent (MIC50/90, 0.5/4 mg/L) β-lactam agent tested against P. aeruginosa isolates, inhibiting 91.0% of the isolates at an MIC of ≤ 4 mg/L. P. aeruginosa exhibited high rates of susceptibility to amikacin (92.0/92.0% [CLSI/EUCAST]) and colistin by EUCAST criteria only (99.2% intermediate [CLSI]/99.2% susceptible [EUCAST]). Ceftolozane/tazobactam (MIC50/90, 0.25/16 mg/L; 86.8/86.8% susceptible [CLSI/EUCAST]) and meropenem (MIC50/90, 0.03/0.12 mg/L; 93.0/93.3% susceptible [CLSI/EUCAST]) were the most active compounds tested against Enterobacterales. Isolates displayed susceptibility rates to other β-lactam agents, ranging from 81.5/77.7% for piperacillin/tazobactam, 66.0/64.5% for cefepime, and 65.3/60.9% for ceftazidime using CLSI/EUCAST breakpoints. Among the Enterobacterales isolates, 6.8% were carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) and 29.6% exhibited an extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) non-CRE phenotype. Ceftolozane/tazobactam showed good activity against ESBL non-CRE phenotype strains of Enterobacterales (MIC50/90, 0.5/8 mg/L; 84.8/84.8% susceptible), but not against isolates with a CRE phenotype (MIC50/90, > 32/> 32 mg/L).Conclusion: Ceftolozane/tazobactam was the most active β-lactam agent tested against P. aeruginosa and demonstrated higher in vitro activity than the available cephalosporins when tested against Enterobacterales from Asian countries.Keywords: Asia, ceftolozane/tazobactam, drug resistance, Enterobacterales, P. aeruginosa, surveillance

There is still a lack of consensus regarding whether suprascapular nerve decompression should be routinely performed with rotator cuff repair. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to evaluate whether additional suprascapular nerve release (SSNR) could improve shoulder functional outcomes and pain relief more than rotator cuff repair alone.We performed a literature review of electronic databases for noncomparative and comparative studies investigating the effect of SSNR in patients undergoing rotator cuff repair. The primary outcome was the change in shoulder function scores from the preoperative status, and the secondary outcome was the change in the visual analog scale (VAS) score of pain after surgery. A subgroup analysis was conducted based on the study design (noncomparative studies vs. comparative studies).Nine studies comprising 279 participants were included. Our analysis demonstrated that the group that underwent SSNR had a better shoulder functional score after surgery than at preoperative assessment (standardized mean difference [SMD], 1.333, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.708-1.959). No significant differences were identified in shoulder function improvement between those with and without SSNR, with an SMD of 0.163 (95% CI, -0.091 to 0.418). Likewise, the group with SSNR showed a decreased VAS score after surgery compared to their preoperative status (SMD, 0.910; 95% CI, 0.560-1.260). However, there was no significant difference in VAS change between those with and without SSNR, with an SMD of 0.431 (95% CI, -0.095 to 0.956).The present meta-analysis revealed that SSNR might not be routinely needed in rotator cuff tendon repair as no additional benefits in functional improvement or pain relief were identified compared to rotator cuff tendon repair alone.

Introduction: Gait variability is associated with frailty, dementia, and falls. Studies on the association of physiological and cognitive factors with gait variability have seldom included middle-aged adults, even though these adults already experienced loss of muscular strength and postural stability. This study aimed a) to examine and compare the trend of gait variability in men and women, across the adult age spectrum, and b) to identify and compare the contributions of physiological and cognitive factors to gait variability. Methods: This was a population-based cross-sectional study at a single center. A random sample of 507 community-dwelling, well-functioning adults aged 21–90 years were studied. Cognition was measured using the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status. Physiological factors examined included visual contrast sensitivity (VCS), postural sway, hand reaction time, handgrip strength (HGS), knee extensor strength, and gait variability (coefficient of variation [CoV]). Multivariable regression models were used to examine the association between physiological and cognitive performance with gait CoV. Results: Women walked with greater stride width CoV (p < 0.01) and double support time (DST) CoV (p < 0.01) than men. The stride width (p = 0.01) and DST variability (p = 0.03) were significantly higher in older men as compared to men in younger age-groups. Gait speed accounted for most of the gait CoV variances and attenuated the effects of physiological performance and/or attention cognition on most gait variability, except for CoV of DST and stride width. Adults with better VCS (β = −0.19), faster hand reaction (β = 0.12), and greater HGS (β = −0.15) had lower variability in step length. Conclusion: The trends of stride width CoV and DST CoV across adult age spectrum were different between men and women. Greater stride width variability was partly attributed to greater HGS, possibly to better control lateral stability during walking. Physiological factors outweigh cognition in regulating most of the gait CoV in this study. They are modifiable and potential targets for healthy aging program.

Axicabtagene ciloleucel (axi-cel) and tisagenlecleucel (tisa-cel) are CD19-directed chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies approved for the treatment of relapsed/refractory aggressive B cell lymphomas. We present a multicenter retrospective study among centers that prescribe either commercial product to evaluate usage patterns, safety and efficacy outcomes, and resource utilization. Data collection included all patients from 8 US centers who underwent apheresis between May 1, 2018, and July 31, 2019. Patient selection, toxicity management, and disease assessment followed institutional practices. Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) were graded according to American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy consensus criteria, and tumor responses were assessed according to the Lugano 2014 classification scheme. A total of 260 patients underwent apheresis, including 168 (65%) for axi-cel and 92 (35%) for tisa-cel. Among the infused patients, the median age was 59 years for axi-cel recipients and 67 years for tisa-cel recipients (P.001). The median time from apheresis to infusion was 28 days for axi-cel recipients and 45 days for tisa-cel recipients (P.001). Sixty-one percent of the axi-cel recipients and 43% of the tisa-cel recipients would have been ineligible for the ZUMA-1 and JULIET trials, respectively. Grade ≥3 CRS occurred in 9% of axi-cel recipients and in 1% of tisa-cel recipients (P = .017), and grade ≥3 ICANS was seen in 38% of axi-cel recipients and 1% of tisa-cel recipients (P.001). Inpatient cell therapy infusion was common (92% in axi-cel recipients, 37% in tisa-cel recipients). The day 90 overall response rate was 52% in the axi-cel group and 41% in the tisa-cel group (P = .113), with complete response in 44% and 35%, respectively (P = .319). Twelve-month progression-free survival (42% versus 32%; P = .206) and overall survival (62% versus 59%; P = .909) rates were comparable in the axi-cel and tisa-cel groups. Baseline characteristics differed between the 2 groups, although response rates and survival outcomes were comparable, albeit lower than those in the pivotal trials. Safety and resource utilization appear to be key differentiators between axi-cel and tisa-cel.

Annular configuration is conspicuous in the clinical manifestation of many skin diseases and can be helpful for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis. Variations may include arciform, ring-form, annular, circinate, serpiginous, gyrated, polycyclic, targeted or figurate forms, in different colors, sizes, and numbers, with various textures and surfaces. In infectious dermatoses, the annular reactions can be specific or nonspecific, while the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. In the specific reactions caused by direct invasion of the pathogens, the contest between the centrifugal outspread of the infectious agents and the centripetal impedance of the host immune response is supposed to determine the final conformation. Examples include erythema infectiosum, orf, erythema multiforme, and pityriasis rosea of viral origin. Bacterial infections that may display annular lesions include erythrasma, erythema (chronicum) migrans of Lyme borreliosis, secondary syphilis, cutaneous tuberculosis, and leprosy. Superficial mycosis, such as dermatophytosis, candida intertrigo, tinea imbricata, and subcutaneous mycosis, such as chromoblastomycosis, and algae infection protothecosis, are characterized by annular progression of the skin lesions. The creeping serpiginous extension is an alarming sign for the diagnosis of cutaneous larva migrans. A better understanding of the virulence and pathogenicity of the pathogens and the way and type of immune response will help to clarify the pathogenesis.

PURPOSE Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is associated with a poor prognosis. Multianalyte signatures, including liquid biopsy and traditional clinical variables, have shown promise for improving prognostication in other solid tumors but have not yet been rigorously assessed for PDAC. MATERIALS AND METHODS We performed a prospective cohort study of patients with newly diagnosed locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) or metastatic PDAC (mPDAC) who were planned to undergo systemic therapy. We collected peripheral blood before systemic therapy and assessed circulating tumor cells (CTCs), cell-free DNA concentration (cfDNA), and circulating tumor KRAS (ctKRAS)–variant allele fraction (VAF). Association of variables with overall survival (OS) was assessed in univariate and multivariate survival analysis, and comparisons were made between models containing liquid biopsy variables combined with traditional clinical prognostic variables versus models containing traditional clinical prognostic variables alone. RESULTS One hundred four patients, 40 with LAPC and 64 with mPDAC, were enrolled. CTCs, cfDNA concentration, and ctKRAS VAF were all significantly higher in patients with mPDAC than patients with LAPC. ctKRAS VAF (cube root; 0.05 unit increments; hazard ratio, 1.11; 95% CI, 1.03 to 1.21; P = .01), and CTCs ≥ 1/mL (hazard ratio, 2.22; 95% CI, 1.34 to 3.69; P = .002) were significantly associated with worse OS in multivariate analysis while cfDNA concentration was not. A model selected by backward selection containing traditional clinical variables plus liquid biopsy variables had better discrimination of OS compared with a model containing traditional clinical variables alone (optimism-corrected Harrell's C-statistic 0.725 v 0.681). CONCLUSION A multianalyte prognostic signature containing CTCs, ctKRAS, and cfDNA concentration outperformed a model containing traditional clinical variables alone suggesting that CTCs, ctKRAS, and cfDNA provide prognostic information complementary to traditional clinical variables in advanced PDAC.

Fifteen new pyrazole-4-carboxylic oxime ester derivatives were conveniently synthesized, and their structures were confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HRMS, and X-ray diffraction. Antifungal assays indicated that some of these compounds possessed good activity against S. sclerotiorum, B. cinerea, R. solani, P. oryae, and P. piricola at 50 ppm. Structure-activity relationships (SAR) were studied by molecular docking simulation.
