Aging of the skin is a complex and multifactorial biological process, affected by different intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Exogenous factors affecting the process of skin aging, together with nutrition, are topics which currently draw considerable attention. Although it is difficult to accurately define what presents a healthy diet for maintenance of youthful skin, considering the evident lack of clinical data and studies in humans, there are numerous evidence suggesting that the food we eat affects our skin aging and its’ appearance. Well-documented is a fact that the modern diet is a large source of advanced glycation end products and reactive oxygen species – compounds formed during certain food preparation methods which accumulation is associated with different disease and recently, skin aging as well. This review gives the current state of knowledge related to the role which advanced glycation end products and reactive oxygen species, formed during the certain food preparation methods, have in the mechanisms of the premature/extrinsic skin aging. Additionally, it summarizes available information, in the form of recommendations for both the public and nutritional professionals who have an interest in this field, regarding food preparation methods and practices which prevent formation of aforementioned compounds in food and consequently could reduce the food contribution to premature skin aging.

In this paper the relations among qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods approaches are considered. Basic evidence for this methodological analysis is consisted by Vladan Vidicki`s and Snezana Stojsin`s article and Zivan Ristic`s book devoted to this topic. Vidicki and Stojsin are critics of methodological dogmatism related to rival approach. Their comprehension is analyzed in the first and second sections of the paper. Third section deals with Ristic`s criticism of methodological eclecticism. Forth part of the paper explores particular issue of relations of quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods approach to different paradigms. In the conclusion is stated that division among qulatitative, quantitative and mixed methods approach is artificial and disadvantageous. It is emphasized that the division embarrasses the development of sociological theory and that its focusing to the role of research objectives is related to social reformism.

Quantitative and qualitative orientations, as dominant in contemporary methodology of social sciences, are based on different forms, parts and types, data. They have their own epistemological specificity. They disintegrate classical sociological methods, such as observation, reducing their penetration and thus reducing the cognitive potential of sociology, while increasing the possibility of its use for ideological purposes. Observation methodologically disintegrates through a normal binding of its participatory forms for qualitative methodology, and structured observation, systematic observation and quantification in the application of observation solely for the quantitative methodology. This article analyzes the degree of justification of such methodological views. Moreover, it examines the efforts to implement diverse mixed or combined strategies with quantitative and qualitative strategy, with particular reference to their impact on observation as a method. The article also points to the relationship of induction, supposedly inherent to qualitative orientation, and deduction, that the literature associates with a quantitative orientation, the possibility of application of observations in social sciences. The article discusses the gradual abandonment of the efforts to verify hypotheses and complex theoretical assumptions in the social sciences by observation. The first section shows the classical understanding that emphasized the importance of the theoretically directed observation. The second section shows the efforts towards inclusion of the observed in the interpretation of observations. The third section contains an analysis of the impact of today’s strict division on the qualitative and quantitative methodology. This influence can be seen in a complete separation of the structured observation and participatory observation, the disintegration of observation as a research procedure, its replacement by ethnography and case study method, as well as abandoning more general theoretical ambition within qualitative methodology. The fourth section analyzes the epistemological consequences of efforts to understand the fieldwork primarily as a power relationship and to transform the observed into the subjects of research. Development of the attitudes on the relationship between theory and research in the application of methods of observation in social sciences is associated with theoretical eclecticism in the field of contemporary sociological theory and distancing from philosophy of science with its understanding of the role of research programs and research traditions in the field of growth of scientific knowledge. Clinical implications of blood pressure variability (BPV) on subclinical organ damage in children are unknown. The authors sought to explore the potential utility of two newly derived BPV indices: weighted standard deviation (wBPSD) and real average variability (ARV), as well as two standard ambulatory blood pressure indices: average 24-hour systolic blood pressure (SBP) and 24-hour SBP load, to identify children at high risk for left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy (LVH). The study group consisted of 67 consecutive children who were referred to our institution for evaluation of suspected hypertension. LV mass was estimated by M-mode echocardiography using Devereux's formula according to the Penn convention and indexed for height(2.7) . We found a statistically significant, positive correlation between 24-hour wBPSD and LV mass index (LVMI) (ρ=0.389; P=.002) and no correlation between 24-hour ARV and LVMI (P>.05). However, partial correlation analysis of 24-hour wBPSD adjusted for body mass index (BMI) and LVMI showed only a weak correlation (ρ=0.3; P=.022). By using multiple linear regression analysis in a model with LVMI as a dependent variable and 24-hour wBPSD, 24-hour ARV, and BMI as independent variables, only BMI showed statistically significant independent positive associations with LVMI (P=.028). Results of our study showed that currently used BPV indices (24-hour wBPSD and 24-hour ARV) are not clinically reliable parameters to identify children at risk for LVH. Apparent contribution of the 24-hour wBPSD parameter to LVMI is negligible and is secondary to its close correlation with BMI (ρ=0.335 P=.009).

The paper is divided into three sections. The first one deals with the problems of the reliability and validity. Second part of the text is devoted to the discussion among qualitative vs. quantitative approaches supporters. The issues of the using of computers and some possibilities of comparative framework in relation to the content analysis are considered into the third part of the paper.

Introduction Myocardial hypertrophy of the left ventricle may be of physiological or pathological nature. Distinction of these two types of hypertrophy is sometimes not easy and represents a diagnostic challenge. The aim of the study was to assess global diastolic and regional systolic and diastolic myocardial function in the presence of left ventricular hypertrophy in athletes and hypertensive patients. Material and methods In 18 male hypertensive patients and 14 male athletes global diastolic left ventriclar function and regional systolic and diastolic myocardial function of septum and posterior wall were investigated by pulsed wave tissue Doppler imaging. Results Ejection fraction and left ventricle mass index did not differ significantly between two groups. This article aims to achieve two main goals. Firstly, authors have tried to reconstruct the position of Vojin Milic (1922-1996) in the development of thought about (research) method. Therefore, they compared his standpoint with those developed one generation earlier (Znaniecki), those of his contemporaries (Good and Hatt), as well as with the work of present-day authors (Bryman). Special attention was paid to the importance of Milic?s study of the history of methodological thought and epistemology regarding the emergence of his ideas on data collecting methodology and procedures relevant for the analysis of causality. Secondly, along with this historical and scientific study, and guided by Merton?s critics of adumbrations, authors undertook a systematic examination of relationships between various research and analytical procedures within sociology: primary (original) experience, observation, sequential analysis, grounded theory, comparative method and multiple-case study.

A survey was done with 100 distinguished members of cultural and media elite members. The results showed that ethnic elites in Vojvodina had better economic position than ordinary citizens, but that one ninth of them was poor. On inter-personal level they are very open towards the members of other ethnic groups. As for the attitudes, ethnic elites members differed from ordinary citizens mostly by strongly supporting market economy and liberal concept of development. They couldn't differentiate clearly between individual and collective rights. This was understandable since in multi-ethnic surrounding where Serbian ethnic nationalism still prevailed individual rights were to the great extent determined by ethnic origin. Minority ethnic communities elites had clearer understanding of this fact because their ethnic groups paid higher price in such circumstances. Members of least numerous ethnic groups mostly favored individual over collective rights, major cause for this being probably their fear from Serbian-Hungarian deal at the expense of third party. Yet, this survey's findings regarding this topic were substantially better than any before, since the awareness of need for collective rights to be recognized grew in all ethnic groups, including Serbs.

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of listening to favorite music on the endothelial function, assess through changes of circulating blood markers of endothelial function: the stable end product of Nitric Oxide (NOx), Dimethylarginine (ADMA), Symmetric Dimethylarginine (SDMA) and Xanthine Oxidase (XO), in patients (pts) with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). Methods: 74pts with stable CAD were studied. At baseline and 3 weeks later, in all pts values of NOx, ADMA, SDMA and XO were evaluated and exercise test was performed. After the initial study, pts were randomized to trained (T,n=33), music and trained (MT, n=31) and music (M,n=10) group. Patients in T and MT group underwent a supervised 3 weeks aerobic exercise training at residential center. Additional to exercise training, patients in MT group were listening to their favorite music, for half an hour, every day. Patients in M group received usual community care and were listening to their favorite music for half an hour every day.
