Tendo em vista a importância de um estudo mais relacionado ao Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA), objetiva-se relacionar o TEA com seus possíveis aspectos clínicos e genéticos, com a Síndrome do cromossomo X frágil (SFX). No que concerne a metodologia utilizada neste trabalho, aplicou-se a revisão integrativa, além de ter realizado a pesquisa nas plataformas de estudo a seguir: Literatura Latino- Americana e do Caribe em Ciência da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Eletronic Online (SciELO) e National Library of Medicine (PubMed). Quanto aos resultados, constatou-se, após a averiguação, que a mutação do gene FRM1 está intrinsecamente ligada com a SFX e com o TEA haja vista que esta mutação impede a produção da FRMP (responsável pelo controle da produção sináptica) e ocasiona uma produção excessiva de sinapses. Por fim, concluiu-se que há uma extensa necessidade de continuidade das pesquisas ligadas ao TEA e à genética para melhor esclarecer acerca desta temática.

Atom interferometers possess great potential as sensitive and stable acceleration and rotation sensors. Currently, the DoD is interested in leveraging atom interferometry research to improve inertial sensors and develop portable, compact devices based on atom interferometers with strategic-grade performance. Typical atom interferometers measure the acceleration or rotation signal with an on-resonance detection laser field, but these laser fields have inherent noise that degrades the signal-to-noise ratio. The laser noise in one quadrature of the field can be reduced below the so-called shot noise limit at the expense of the other quadrature. Fields with this property are called “squeezed fields.” Although lowering the noise in one quadrature increases noise in the other quadrature (due to Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle), the noise in the other quadrature can be made irrelevant by designing a detection scheme that does not use that quadrature. By reducing light-source noise, atom interferometer measurement precision can be increased. Modern information systems are changing the idea of "data processing" to the idea of "concept processing", meaning that instead of processing words, such systems process semantic concepts which carry meaning and share contexts with other concepts. Ontology is commonly used as a structure that captures the knowledge about a certain area via providing concepts and relations between them. Traditionally, concept hierarchies have been built manually by knowledge engineers or domain experts. However, the manual construction of a concept hierarchy suffers from several limitations such as its coverage and the enormous costs of its extension and maintenance. Ontology learning, usually referred to the (semi-)automatic support in ontology development, is usually divided into steps, going from concepts identification, passing through hierarchy and non-hierarchy relations detection and, seldom, axiom extraction. It is reasonable to say that among these steps the current frontier is in the establishment of concept hierarchies, since this is the backbone of ontologies and, therefore, a good concept hierarchy is already a valuable resource for many ontology applications. The automatic construction of concept hierarchies from texts is a complex task and much work have been proposing approaches to better extract relations between concepts. These different proposals have never been contrasted against each other on the same set of data and across different languages. Such comparison is important to see whether they are complementary or incremental. Also, we can see whether they present different tendencies towards recall and precision. This paper evaluates these different methods on the basis of hierarchy metrics such as density and depth, and evaluation metrics such as Recall and Precision. Results shed light over the comprehensive set of methods according to the literature in the area.

The growing and aging population has contributed to the increased prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other types of dementia in the world. AD is a progressive and degenerative brain disease with an onset characterized by episodic memory impairments, although progressive deficits can be observed in several domains including language, executive functions, attention and working memory. The relationship between cognitive impairments and the topography and progression of brain neuropathology is well established. The pathophysiologic mechanisms and processes that underline the course of cognitive and clinical decline have been the theoretical support for the development of pharmacological treatments for AD. Cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs) and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) antagonists are the main drugs used in the management of global cognitive impairment and several studies also explore the effects of both in specific cognitive measures. Recent research trends also examine the effects of combination therapy using both compounds. This review aims to update practical recommendations for the treatment of global cognitive functioning and specific neurocognitive deficits in AD using ChEIs, NMDA antagonists and combination therapy with both drugs.

A automatização da resolução de anáforas pode melhorar o desempenho de vários sistemas de processamento de língua natural, como tradutores, geradores e sumarizadores. A dificuldade no processo de resolução acontece nos casos em que existe mais de um referente possível. Pesquisas sobre a resolução de anáforas na língua portuguesa ainda são escassas, quando comparadas com as pesquisas para outras línguas, como por exemplo, o inglês. Este trabalho descreve uma adaptação para o português do algoritmo sintático proposto por Hobbs para resolução de anáfora pronominal. A avaliação foi feita comparando os resultados com os obtidos por outro algoritmo sintático para resolução de pronomes, o algoritmo de Lappin e Leass. Os mesmos corpora foram utilizados e uma melhora significativa foi obtida com o algoritmo de Hobbs. Abstract: Anaphora is an abreviated reference to an entity expecting the receiver of the discourse can understand the reference. Automatic pronoun resolution may improve the performance of natural language systems, such as translators, generators and summarizers. Difficulties may arise when there is more than one potential candidate for a referent. There has been little research on pronoun resolution for Portuguese, if compared to other languages, such as English. This paper describes a variant of Hobbs' syntactic algorithm for pronoun resolution in Portuguese. The system was evaluated comparing the results with the ones obtained with another syntactic algorithm for pronoun resolution handling, the Lappin and Leass' algorithm. This paper presents a comparative study of alignment pairs, either contrasting expressions or stylistic variants of the same expression in the European (EP) and the Brazilian (BP) varieties of Portuguese. The alignments were collected semi-automatically using the CLUE-Aligner tool, which allows to record all pairs of paraphrastic units resulting from the alignment task in a database. The corpus used was a children’s literature book Os livros que devoraram o meu pai (The Books that Devoured My Father) by the Portuguese author Afonso Cruz and the Brazilian adaptation of this book. The main goal of the work presented here is to gather equivalent phrasal expressions and different syntactic constructions, which convey the same meaning in EP and BP, and contribute to the optimisation of editorial processes compulsory in the adaptation of texts, but which are suitable for any type of editorial process. This study provides a scientific basis for future work in the area of editing, proofreading and converting text to and from any variety of Portuguese from a computational point of view, namely to be used in a paraphrasing system with a variety adaptation functionality, even in the case of a literary text. This paper combines two of Linguateca's projects { Esqueleto (on the human body) and Emocionário (on emotions), to investigate which areas of the human body and, therefore, body words or expressions, are mentioned when Portuguese speakers want to describe emotions or opinions. We present a body map as a novel research tool to describe the connections between the two domains.
