Statement of problem A consensus on the clinical performance of implant-supported removable partial dentures (ISRPDs) is lacking. Purpose The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the clinical performance of ISRPDs in terms of the implant survival rates, marginal bone loss, and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). Material and methods Four electronic databases (MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library) were independently searched by 2 reviewers for articles published up to December 2020. A single-arm meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the implant survival rates and marginal bone loss by using the R program. The Cochrane collaboration tool was used to evaluate the risk of bias of randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and the Newcastle-Ottawa scale for non-RCT studies. Results Sixteen studies were included, with a total of 334 participants and a mean age of 58 years. The participants received a total of 581 dental implants, 475 conventional and 106 mini-implants. All included studies reported implant survival rate above 90% (range: 92% to 100%). Meta-analysis indicated a high proportion of implant survival rates of 3% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 2% to 5%) and a low mean raw score of marginal bone loss 0.98 mm (CI: 0.61 to 1.36 mm). Compared with conventional RPDs, improved patient quality of life and satisfaction were reported by studies that evaluated ISRPDs. RCT studies exhibited a low risk of bias for most domains, while most non-RCT studies were classified as good quality. Conclusions ISRPDs exhibited high implant survival rates and acceptable bone loss with improvement in the quality of life and satisfaction of patients when compared with conventional RPDs. Therefore, they can be considered suitable for the rehabilitation of partially edentulous patients.

Selective clamping during robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) may reduce ischemia-related functional impairment. The intraoperative use of 3D-virtual models (3DVMs) can improve surgical planning, resulting in a greater success rate for selective clamping. Our goal is to introduce a new generation of 3DVMs, which consider the perfusion volumes of the kidney. Patients listed for RAPN from 2021 to 2022 were recruited. A selective clamping strategy was designed and intraoperatively performed based on the specifically generated 3DVMs. The effectiveness of selective clamping was evaluated using near-infrared-fluorescence imaging (NIRF) and 3DVM. Perfusion areas extensions were compared, and relevant preoperative characteristics were analyzed. In 61 of 80 (76.25%) cases, selective clamping was performed. The concordance between the 3DVM areas and the NIRF-enhanced areas was verified (k = 0.91). According to the distribution of perfused areas crossing the tumor, there were one, two, three, four, and five crossing areas, with relative perfusion rates of 13.75%, 35%, 32.5%, 13.75%, and 5%, respectively. Lesion diameter and mesorenal location were the only factors related to a higher number (>3) of perfusion volumes crossing the lesion. The implementation of mathematical algorithms to 3DVMs allows for precise estimation of the perfusion zone of each arterial branch feeding the organ, leading to the performance of safe and effective pedicle management planning.

Background: Our study aims to assess the feasibility and the reproducibility of fluorescent confocal microscopy (FCM) real-time assessment of urethral and ureteral margins during open radical cystectomy (ORC) for bladder cancer (BCa). Methods: From May 2020 to January 2022, 46 patients underwent ORC with intraoperative FCM evaluation. Each specimen was intraoperatively stained for histopathological analysis using FCM, analyzed as a frozen section (FSA), and sent for traditional H&E examination. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and the negative predictive value (NPV) of FCM and FSA were assessed and compared with H&E for urethral and ureteral margins separately. Results: The agreement was evaluated through Cohen’s κ statistic. Urethral diagnostic agreement between FCM and FSA showed a κ = 0.776 (p < 0.001), while between FCM and H&E, the agreement was κ = 0.691 (p < 0.001). With regard to ureteral margins, an overall agreement of κ = 0.712 (p < 0.001) between FCM and FSA and of κ = 0.481 (p < 0.001) between FCM and H&E was found. Conclusions: FCM proved to be a safe, feasible, and reproducible method for the intraoperative assessment of urethral and ureteral margins during ORC. Compared to standard FSA, FCM showed adequate diagnostic performance in detecting urethral and ureteral malignant involvement.

During the Hellenistic period and under the growing influence of the art of painting, the polychromy of Greek terracotta figurines focused not only on an elaborate rendering of color, but also on the interplay of light and shadow. Some of the best-preserved examples clearly show the subtlety of such pictorial effects. Among them is a statuette of a standing Maenad, held in the collections of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens (inv. 5000). Dating back to 150–100 BCE, it is a high-quality testament to the sculptural, as well as pictorial, coroplastic production in the workshops of Myrina (Eolide, Turkey). Combining multi-scale examination, multi-spectral imaging and non-invasive spectroscopic investigations (XRF, FTIR, FORS), a scientific study of the artefact was carried out within the framework of the Pilina project, a collaborative research program between the Louvre, the C2RMF, the National Archaeological Museum and the French School in Athens. This article presents the main results of the study by discussing the color scheme, identification of some pigments and colorants (clays of the kaolinite group, ochres, cinnabar, Egyptian blue, an anthraquinone of plant origin, likely madder, gold leaf), and painting techniques aiming at achieving chiaroscuro effects.

Objetivo: Relatar a eficácia solução hipertônica do Cloreto de Sódio (NaCl 20%) em granulomas periestomais de traqueostomias após decanulação. Método: Trata-se de dois relatos de casos com amostragem por conveniência e não probabilística, que avaliou o uso de solução hipertônica em granulomas periestomais de traqueostomias, que passaram pelo processo de decanulação da traqueostomia e que estiveram internados durante o tratamento do granuloma. Resultados: A pesquisa identificou como benefício do tratamento com NaCl 20% uma evolução satisfatória dos granulomas, um pequeno número de aplicações necessárias, o baixo custo da solução e ausência de efeitos adversos constatados. Conclusão: A pesquisa constatou um resultado positivo no uso de NaCl 20% em granulomas periestomais de traqueostomia, pois propiciaram a redução total dos granulomas e com isso permitir a cicatrização completa das lesões.

This paper presents the message passing interface (MPI)-based parallelization of the three-dimensional hydrodynamic model SHYFEM (System of HydrodYnamic Finite Element Modules). The original sequential version of the code was parallelized in order to reduce the execution time of high-resolution configurations using state-of-the-art high-performance computing (HPC) systems. A distributed memory approach was used, based on the MPI. Optimized numerical libraries were used to partition the unstructured grid (with a focus on load balancing) and to solve the sparse linear system of equations in parallel in the case of semi-to-fully implicit time stepping. The parallel implementation of the model was validated by comparing the outputs with those obtained from the sequential version. The performance assessment demonstrates a good level of scalability with a realistic configuration used as benchmark.

Gli studi volti all'analisi del disagio psicologico delle pazienti con tumore al seno sono sempre più frequenti. Tuttavia, i correlati psicologici e psicosociali dei sintomi ansioso-depressivi (SAD) nel carcinoma mammario richiedono ulteriori approfondimenti, alla luce dell'eterogeneità dei protocolli impiegati per l'assessment psiconcologico. La presente rassegna sistematica, condotta mediante la banca dati Scopus, si è posta il duplice obiettivo di identificare e classificare i principali correlati dei SAD nelle pazienti oncologiche, e indagare il ruolo svolto da tali correlati verso l'insorgenza, il mantenimento e/o la severità dei SAD. La rassegna, basata su criteri di eleggibilità prestabiliti e procedure sistematiche di screening e valutazione, ha preso in esame 64 studi osservazionali (trasversali e longitudinali) pubblicati nel decennio 2012-2022. Dagli studi è emerso un legame fra SAD (rilevati con strumenti di screening), ansia e/o depressione (valutati con questionari specifici), e tre macro-categorie di costrutti: 1. altri sintomi di disagio psicologico, positivamente correlati ai SAD; 2. il capitale psicologico e psicosociale delle pazienti, inversamente correlato ai SAD; 3. ulteriori fattori che influenzano la salute e l'aderenza terapeutica. Le implicazioni della presente rassegna della let-teratura si realizzano nell'opportunità di adottare protocolli valutativi e di intervento integrati, orientando studi futuri verso un'analisi ed una maggiore comprensione della variabilità delle procedure di assessment e delle diverse risposte delle pazienti al disagio cancro-correlato.

Unavailability of the iliac-caval system due to thrombosis or aberrant anatomy may preclude kidney transplantation (KT) in small infants, exposing them to the complications of long-term dialysis. A tailored approach may enable KT also in these difficult patients.We report the cases of 2 pediatric patients with a history of long-term hemodialysis, a previously failed KT, pending exhaustion of vascular accesses for dialysis, and unsuitability of the iliac-caval axis as a site for KT. Both patients were successfully managed by using splenic vessels as a source of arterial inflow or venous drainage during KT. Notably, one patient also had a previous liver transplant.Both kidney grafts showed primary function. Posttransplant courses were uneventful, and no rejection episode was observed. At 64- and 10-mo follow-ups, both children had optimal renal function and excellent quality of life.When the iliac-caval system is unavailable, kidney graft implantation on splenic vessels represents a safe and effective option for pediatric KT.

A cervicalgia se caracteriza como dor na região cervical, e acomete de 48% a 78% dos estudantes de graduação. A presença de dor na região cervical pode estar relacionada ao desenvolvimento de pontos gatilhos, que são definidos como nódulos rígidos e dolorosos presentes em uma faixa tensa do músculo esquelético. Estes nódulos podem interferir nas atividades de vida diárias quando não realizado o tratamento adequado. Desta forma, realizar a técnica de acupressão em pontos gatilhos cervicais de estudantes universitários ajuda a reduzir o quadro álgico? Com base nestas informações, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar se a aplicação da acupressão reduz a dor cervical de jovens universitários quando aplicada em pontos gatilhos. Foi realizado um estudo clínico de pré e pós-intervenção, com 10 graduandos de fisioterapia do 4° ano, idade entre 20 e 30 anos, que apresentaram quadro álgico em pontos gatilhos na região cervical e concordaram em participar da intervenção através da técnica de acupressão. De acordo com os dados obtidos no pré e pós avaliação foi possível observar melhora significativa do quadro álgico em pontos gatilhos na região cervical de graduandos de fisioterapia. Pode-se concluir que a acupressão mostrou-se eficaz para a redução da dor em pontos gatilhos em região cervical de universitários.

Background: Large randomized trials have demonstrated that lung cancer (LC) screening with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) reduces LC mortality in heavy smokers. We previously showed in the MILD screening trial that the combination of a prespecified circulating microRNA (miRNA) signature classifier (MSC) and LDCT improves the accuracy of LDCT alone. The primary aim of the prospective BioMILD study was to assess the additional value of the blood MSC assay at the time of baseline LDCT with the goal of personalizing LC screening intervals. Patients and methods: The study enrolled 4119 volunteers from January 2013 to March 2016, with a median follow-up of 5.3 years. Baseline LDCT and miRNAs stratified participants into four groups: CT−/MSC− (n = 2664; 64.7%); CT−/MSC+ (n = 800; 19.4%); CT+/MSC− (n = 446; 10.8%); and CT+/MSC+ (n = 209; 5.1%). As per the protocol, those in the CT−/MSC− and CT−/MSC+ groups were allocated to LDCT repeat at 3-year and 1-year intervals; CT+ participants were allocated for 1-year or earlier intervals on the basis of LDCT features independent of MSC results. Results: CT+ participants had a 15.8-fold higher 4-year LC incidence than CT− participants (95% confidence interval 10.34-24.05), and MSC+ participants had a 2.0-fold higher 4-year LC incidence than MSC− participants (95% confidence interval 1.40-2.90); there was no evidence that the MSC effect differed between CT+ and CT− participants. LC incidence at 4 years was 0.8% in CT−/MSC−, 1.1% in CT−/MSC+, 10.8% in CT+/MSC−, and 20.1% in CT+/MSC+ participants. LC mortality rates at 5 years in the four risk groups were 0.5 in CT−/MSC−, 1.5 in CT−/MSC+, 4.2 in CT+/MSC−, and 10.1 in CT+/MSC+. Conclusion: The combined use of LDCT and blood miRNAs at baseline predicts individual LC incidence and mortality, with a major effect of MSC for LDCT-positive individuals. These findings may have important implications in personalizing screening intervals.

Malathion is an insecticide that is used to control arboviruses and agricultural pests. Adolescents that are exposed to this insecticide are the most vulnerable as they are in the critical period of postnatal sexual development. This study aimed to evaluate whether malathion damage can affect sperm function and its respective mechanisms when adolescents are exposed during postnatal sexual development. Twenty-four male Wistar rats (PND 25) were divided into three experimental groups and treated daily for 40 d: control group (saline 0.9%), 10 mg/kg (M10 group), or 50 mg/kg (M50 group) of malathion. At PND 65, the rats were anesthetized and euthanized. Testicles were collected for the evaluation of gene expression. Sperm cells from the epididymis were used for evaluation of the oxidative profile or spermatic function. Data showed that a lower dose of malathion downregulated the gene expression of androgen receptors and testosterone converter enzyme 17-β-HSD in the testis. The acrosomal integrity of sperm cells was compromised in the M50 group, but not the M10 group. The mitochondrial activity was not impaired by exposure. Finally, although no alterations in malondialdehyde and glutathione levels were observed, malathion, at both doses, increased antioxidant enzyme catalase activity and, at a higher dose, superoxide dismutase activity. The present study showed that low doses of malathion considered to be inoffensive are capable of impairing sperm quality and function through the downregulation of testicular genic expression of AR enzyme 17-β-HSD and can damage the spermatic antioxidant profile during critical periods of development.

This method canprovide any recommendations that are needed by the user. Testing on this system is carriedout by direct interviews with the owner of the ELC as well as several employees who workat ELC who will use this application. Based on this test, the ELC Parents application cancarry out its orders in inputting student attendance and computerized student assessments.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat gambaran cemaran bakteri E. coli pada daging ayam broiler yang dijual di pasar pos Duri Jakarta Barat. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif. Pemeriksaan cemaran bakteri dilakukan di lab TLM STIK Kesosi pada bulan April-Mei 2022. Pada pemeriksaan mikroskopik ditemukan bakteri batang Gram negatif. Sedangkan pada pemeriksaan biokimia didapatkan uji oxidase strip negatif dan TSIA +/+ gas pada semua sampel daging ayam broiler. Berdasarkan hasil identifikasi bakteri Escherichia coli pada 30 sampel ayam Broiler di pasar pos duri maka dapat disimpulkan adalah jenis spesies bakteri Escherichia coli

Modeling the ocean from the open sea to the coasts requires an adequate choice of the vertical coordinate system.A category of generalized vertical coordinates, the so-called z∗ coordinates ([Stacey et al 1995; Adcroft and Campin 2004]), has been implemented into an unstructured grid, finite elements and layer integrated model which was previously z−geopotential coordinate based.Idealized and realistic test cases are shown to assess the vertical coordinate impact on key physical processes, i.e. the internal tide generation at a continental slope, a river plume shape and intensity and the salt water intrusion.To our knowledge this is the first work that uses the z∗ coordinates in an estuary and river plume with an unstructured grid model. Other studies have used the z∗ coordinates with unstructured grid models covering the global ocean ([Ringler et al 2013, Scholz et al 2019] as examples), but without assessing their performance for the small scale dynamics of estuaries and river plumes. Coastal ocean models are currently mostly based on the terrain following coordinates, used within optimised or hybrid approaches ([Zhang et al 2015; Bruciaferri et al 2018, Fofonova et al 2021, Wise et al 2022] as examples).The results show that the z∗ coordinate model produces, with respect to z−geopotential coordinates, a stronger water column stratification. An idealized twin experiment configuration of the model to simulate the production of internal tides at the continental slope confirms that the z∗ coordinate model reproduces the expected internal tide fields while the z−geopotential model fails. A set of realistic experiments in the Po river delta coastal region, demonstrates that the representation of the dynamical processes at the coastal scales benefits from a very fine resolution of a few tens of centimeters at the surface (four layers of 25 cm are considered in the upper water column), that is only allowed by the z∗ formulation.

Brucella abortus is a zoonotic pathogen whose virulence depends on its ability to survive intracellularly at the endoplasmic reticulum derived compartment. The two-component system BvrR/BvrS (BvrRS) is essential for intracellular survival due to the transcriptional control of the type IV secretion system VirB and its transcriptional regulator VjbR. It is a master regulator of several traits including membrane homeostasis by controlling gene expression of membrane components, such as Omp25. BvrR phosphorylation is related to DNA binding at target regions, thereby repressing or activating gene transcription. To understand the role of BvrR phosphorylation we generated dominant positive and negative versions of this response regulator, mimicking phosphorylated and non-phosphorylated BvrR states and, in addition to the wild-type version, these variants were introduced in a BvrR negative background. We then characterized BvrRS-controlled phenotypes and assessed the expression of proteins regulated by the system. We found two regulatory patterns exerted by BvrR. The first pattern was represented by resistance to polymyxin and expression of Omp25 (membrane conformation) which were restored to normal levels by the dominant positive and the wild-type version, but not the dominant negative BvrR. The second pattern was represented by intracellular survival and expression of VjbR and VirB (virulence) which were, again, complemented by the wild-type and the dominant positive variants of BvrR but were also significantly restored by complementation with the dominant negative BvrR. These results indicate a differential transcriptional response of the genes controlled to the phosphorylation status of BvrR and suggest that unphosphorylated BvrR binds and impacts the expression of a subset of genes. We confirmed this hypothesis by showing that the dominant negative BvrR did not interact with the omp25 promoter whereas it could interact with vjbR promoter. Furthermore, a global transcriptional analysis revealed that a subset of genes responds to the presence of the dominant negative BvrR. Thus, BvrR possesses diverse strategies to exert transcriptional control on the genes it regulates and, consequently, impacting on the phenotypes controlled by this response regulator.

The Solute Carrier 15 (SLC15) family of peptide transporters, alias H+-coupled oligopeptide cotransporter family, is a group of membrane transporters known for their key role in the cellular uptake of di- and tripeptides (di/tripeptides). Of its members, SLC15A1 (PEPT1) chiefly mediates intestinal absorption of luminal di/tripeptides from overall dietary protein digestion, SLC15A2 (PEPT2) mainly allows renal tubular reuptake of di/tripeptides from ultrafiltration and brain-to-blood efflux of di/tripeptides in the choroid plexus, SLC15A3 (PHT2) and SLC15A4 (PHT1) interact with both di/tripeptides and histidine, e.g. in certain immune cells, and SLC15A5 has unknown physiological function. In addition, the SLC15 family of peptide transporters variably interacts with a very large number of peptidomimetics and peptide-like drugs. It is conceivable, based on the currently acknowledged structural and functional differences, to divide the SLC15 family of peptide transporters into two subfamilies [3].

Polyphenols are investigated intensively in nutritional and clinical settings because of their beneficial bioactive properties and prevalence in plant-based foods. Due to their complexity, analysis with untargeted approaches is favorable. These approaches typically use high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) rather than low-resolution mass spectrom-etry (LRMS). The advantages of using HRMS were evaluated in this work by thoroughly testing various untargeted techniques and available online resources. By applying iterative data-dependent acquisition on real-life urine samples, 27 features were identified with spectral libraries, 88 with in silico fragmentation, and 113 features were annotated by their monoisotopic mass with PhytoHub, an online database containing >2000 polyphenols. Moreover, potentially polyphenol-related features were searched for using various non-targeted analysis techniques including MassQL for glucuronide and sulfate neutral losses, and MetaboAnalyst for statistical analysis. As HRMS typically suffers from a sensitivity loss compared to state-of-the-art LRMS used in targeted workflows, the sensitivity gap between the two instrumental approaches was quantified. Both instruments showed feasible sensitivity, with the median limits of detection being 10 - 18 ng/mL for HRMS and 4.8 - 5.8 ng/mL for LRMS in three human matrices (urine, serum, and plas-ma). The applicability of HRMS was further evaluated in real-life urine samples with 24 polyphenols detected. The results demonstrate that despite its intrinsic limitations, HRMS can readily be used for comprehensively investigating human exposure and related health effects of polyphenols and their metabolites as well as toxicological mixture effects with other xenobiotics.
