This study is conducted to determine the public senior high school learners’ assessment on implementing modular learning modality in terms of content and instruction, learning assessment, teacher-learner-parent/guardian collaboration, active and personalized learning, and inclusion. Descriptive-correlational design and stratified proportionate random sampling were utilized. Findings revealed that learners were very satisfied in the implementation of the modular distance learning modality in terms of learning assessment. Transferable skills were also found very challenging. There is no significant difference in the early assessment of the implementation of modular distance learning when grouped according to sex. There is a significant difference in the early assessment of learners in implementing modular distance learning in terms of learning assessment when grouped according to track. No significant difference was found in the early evaluation of the implementation of Modular Distance Learning in terms of content and instruction, teacher-learner-parent/guardian collaboration, active and personalized learning, and inclusion.

Introduction COVID-19 vaccines have been highly effective in reducing morbidity and mortality during the pandemic. While primary series vaccination rates are generally high in Southeast Asian (SEA) countries, various factors have limited the rollout and impact of booster doses. Areas covered We reviewed 79 studies in the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) VIEW-hub platform on vaccine effectiveness (VE) after primary immunizations with two-dose schedules. VE data were reported for SARS-CoV-2 infection, COVID-19-related hospitalizations and deaths, and stratified across variants of concern, age, study design and prior SARS-CoV-2 infection for mRNA vaccines (BNT162b2, mRNA-1273, and combinations of both), vector vaccines (AstraZeneca, AZD1222 [ChAdOx1 nCoV-19] ‘Vaxzevria’), and inactivated virus vaccines (CoronaVac). Expert opinion The most-studied COVID-19 vaccines provide consistently high (>90%) protection against serious clinical outcomes like hospitalizations and deaths, regardless of variant. Additionally, this protection appears equivalent for mRNA vaccines and vector vaccines like AZD1222, as supported by our analysis of Asian and relevant international data, and by insights from SEA experts. Given the continued impact of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths on health-care systems worldwide, encouraging vaccination strategies that reduce this burden is more relevant than attempting to prevent broader but milder infections with specific variants, including Omicron.

Recently, mcr-1 and other mobilizable genes conferring colistin resistance have spread globally in community and hospital populations. Characterizing mcr-1 mobile genetic elements and host genetic background is important to understand the transmission of this resistance mechanism. We conducted whole-genome sequencing of 94 mcr-1-positive Escherichia coli isolates (Mcr1-Ec isolates) from human and animal feces, food, and water in a community cohort (N = 87) and from clinical specimens from a referral hospital (N = 7) in northern Vietnam. mcr-1 was plasmid-borne in 71 and chromosomally carried in 25 (2 isolates contain one copy on chromosome and one copy on a plasmid) of 94 E. coli isolates from the community and hospital settings. All seven clinical isolates carried mcr-1 on plasmids. Replicon types of mcr-1-carrying plasmids included IncI2, IncP, IncX4, and IncFIA single replicons and combinations of IncHI2, IncN, and IncX1 multireplicons. Alignment of a long-read sequence of an IncI2 plasmid from animal feces with short-read sequences of IncI2 plasmids from a healthy human, water, and hospitalized patients showed highly similar structures (query cover from 90% to 98%, overall identity of >81%). We detected the potential existence of multireplicon plasmids harboring mcr-1 regardless of sample setting, confirming 10/71 with long-read sequencing. An intact/conserved Tn6330 transposon sequence or its genetic context variants were found in 6/25 Mcr1-Ec isolates with chromosomally carried mcr-1. The dissemination of mcr-1 is facilitated by a high diversity of plasmid replicon types and a high prevalence of the chromosomal Tn6330 transposon. IMPORTANCE The article presented advances our understanding of genetic elements carrying mcr-1 in Escherichia coli in both community and hospital settings. We provide evidence to suggest that diverse plasmid types, including multireplicon plasmids, have facilitated the successful transmission of mcr-1 in different reservoirs. The widespread use of colistin in agriculture, where a high diversity of bacteria are exposed, has allowed the selection and evolution of various transmission mechanisms that will make it a challenge to get rid of. Colocalization of mcr-1 and other antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) on multireplicon plasmids adds another layer of complexity to the rapid dissemination of mcr-1 genes among community and hospital bacterial populations and to the slow pandemic of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in general.

Joint analyses of cross-correlations between measurements of galaxy positions, galaxy lensing, and lensing of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) offer powerful constraints on the large-scale structure of the Universe. In a forthcoming analysis, we will present cosmological constraints from the analysis of such cross-correlations measured using Year 3 data from the Dark Energy Survey (DES), and CMB data from the South Pole Telescope (SPT) and Planck. Here we present two key ingredients of this analysis: (1) an improved CMB lensing map in the SPT-SZ survey footprint, and (2) the analysis methodology that will be used to extract cosmological information from the cross-correlation measurements. Relative to previous lensing maps made from the same CMB observations, we have implemented techniques to remove contamination from the thermal Sunyaev Zel'dovich effect, enabling the extraction of cosmological information from smaller angular scales of the cross-correlation measurements than in previous analyses with DES Year 1 data. We describe our model for the cross-correlations between these maps and DES data, and validate our modeling choices to demonstrate the robustness of our analysis. We then forecast the expected cosmological constraints from the galaxy survey-CMB lensing auto and cross-correlations. We find that the galaxy-CMB lensing and galaxy shear-CMB lensing correlations will on their own provide a constraint on $S_8=\sigma_8 \sqrt{\Omega_{\rm m}/0.3}$ at the few percent level, providing a powerful consistency check for the DES-only constraints. Background: COVID-19 vaccine development is proceeding at an unprecedented pace. Once COVID-19 vaccines become widely available, it will be necessary to maximize public vaccine acceptance and coverage. Objective: This research aimed to analyze the predictors of COVID-19 vaccine acceptance in Russia. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among Russian adults from September 26th to November 9th, 2020. Predictors of the intent to take up COVID-19 vaccination were explored using logistic regression. Results: Out of 876 participants, 365 (41.7%) would be willing to receive the vaccine if it became available. Acceptance increased for a vaccine with verified safety and effectiveness (63.2%). Intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccine was relatively higher among males (aOR=2.37, 95% CI 1.41-4.00), people with lower monthly income (aOR=2.94, 95%CI 1.32-6.57), and with positive trust in the healthcare system (aOR=2.73, 95% CI 1.76-4.24). The Russian people were more likely to accept the COVID-19 vaccine if they believed that the vaccine reduces the risk of virus infection (aOR=8.80, 95%CI 5.21-14.87) or relieves the complications of the disease (aOR=10.46, 95%CI 6.09-17.96). Other barriers such as being unconcerned about side-effects (aOR=1.65, 95%CI 1.03-2.65) and the effectiveness and safety of the vaccination (aOR=2.55, 95%CI 1.60-4.08), also affected acceptance. Conclusions: The study showed the usefulness of the health belief model constructs in understanding the COVID-19 vaccination acceptance rate in the Russian population. This rate was influenced by sociodemographic and health-related characteristics, and health beliefs. These findings might help guide future efforts for policymakers and stakeholders to improve vaccination rates by enhancing trust in the healthcare system.

The current COVID-19 pandemic is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and has an enormous impact on human health and economy. In search for therapeutic options, researchers have proposed resveratrol, a food supplement with known antiviral, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties as an advantageous antiviral therapy for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Here, we provide evidence that both resveratrol and its metabolically more stable structural analog, pterostilbene, exhibit potent antiviral properties against SARS-CoV-2 in vitro. Resveratrol and pterostilbene showed antiviral activity in African green monkey kidney cells and in human primary bronchial epithelial cells cultured in an air-liquid interface system. Both compounds actively inhibit virus replication within infected cells as reduced virus progeny production was observed when the compound was added at post-inoculation conditions. Without replenishment of the compound, antiviral activity was observed up to roughly 5 rounds of replication, demonstrating the long-lasting effect of these compounds. Collectively, our data indicate that resveratrol and pterostilbene are promising antiviral compounds to treat SARS-CoV-2 infection. Because these results represent laboratory findings in cells, we advocate evaluation of these compounds in clinical trials before statements are made whether or not these drugs are advantageous for COVID-19 treatment.

Genus Campsiura Hope, 1831 The genus is distributed throughout Afrotropical, Oriental and Palaearctic Regions (Krajcik 2008a). In the former Region there are fourteen or fifteen recognized species, depending of the authors (cf. Marais & Holm 1992 and Krajcik 2008a). However, two additional species [Campsiura (Macroma) pavlae Legrand & Malec, 2006 and Campsiura (Macroma) kerleyi Antoine, 2006], are not listed in these catalogues. Genus Lophorrhina Westwood, 1842 Most of the representatives of this genus were described under genera Daedycorrhina Bates, 1880 and Chordodera Burmeister, 1842 (e.g. see Allard 1985; Marais & Holm 1992; Krajcik 2008a), nowadays synonyms of Lophorrhina together with Aphanesthes Kolbe, 1892, Aphanochroa Kolbe, 1893 and Pseudoheteromorpha Allard, 1990 (Krikken 1984; Marais & Holm 1992; Krajcik 2008a). Beinhundner (2017a) recognized thirteen valid species. While Paulino de Oliveira (1882) recorded it to Angola and Holm & Marais (1992) to Botswana and Republic of South Africa, Schoolmeesters (2018) cites it to Tanzania also, but Beinhundner (2017a) only refers Namibia. There is one adult female specimen of Angola (Fig. 5b) deposited in the ���old collection��� of MZUC which confirms its presence in this country. Despite the species be known for Angola since a long time ago (e.g. Bourgoin 1925), both Beinhundner (2017a) and Schoolmeesters (2018) do not consider its presence in that country. All the examined specimens fit the mesotibial character (only one tooth on the external margin) proper of this species (Rigout & Allard 1992). The adult specimens from Chianga were collected on bean plants (label information). The Mussende adult specimen was sampled by BT in a secondary moist forest together with Lophorrhina quinquelineata (Fabricius, 1791), Tmesorrhina laeta burgeoni Allard, 1991 and Myodermum alutaceum (Afzelius, 1817). The larva of this species was described by Oberholzer (1959). Ecological data were provided by Holm & Marais (1992), but see Malec & ����pek (2016) for breeding habits also. The species was described from Angola (Westwood 1883). It is considered a controversial species and an incertae sedis (Schein 1954a). Schein (1954a) in the ���general comments��� (���I. Allgemeines���) referred to Coenochilus parrianus based in Schenkling (1921) catalogue (��� parrianus Westwood Tijdschr. voor Ent. 26 Seite 65 Angola ���). Taking into account this reference, it seems that the species considered by Schein (1954a) is indeed that which was described by Westwood (1883), i.e. Coenochilus parrianus from Angola.
