No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2017-12-01 Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais (FAPEMIG) The aim of this study was to describe, for the first time, the embryogenesis and larval growth of the Paraitinga Brycon nattereri Gunther, 1864 reared in captivity. After artificial fertilization, eggs were incubated at constant temperature (similar to 19 degrees C) and collected every 15 min during the first 3 h and then every 3 h until hatching. Five larvae were collected daily over 15 days for evaluation of the length, yolk sac volume and specific growth rate. The following stages of embryonic development were identified: zygote, cleavage, gastrula, segmentation and larval. The hatching occurred after 50-54 h, with larvae poorly developed and fully depigmented, devoid of mouth and swimming capacity, presenting 6.32 mm total length and 3.64 mm(3) yolk sac volume. The mouth opening was observed between days 3-4 after hatching. The yolk sac absorption was slow during the first 3 days, increasing sharply after this period, being completed on the day 11. During this period there was a decrease in the larval growth rate. After yolk sac absorption, an increase in the growth rate was observed that coincided with the start of exogenous feeding. Cannibalism was not observed during the 15 days of evaluation. The initial development of B. nattereri was slow and poorly developed larvae in relation to other Brycon species, certainly due to the lower temperature required for egg incubation and larval rearing. Other studies are needed in order to develop techniques to improve the methods of incubating eggs and feeding larvae. This plant is known to be the source of resin for the highly valued Brazilian green propolis. As no information is available on the safety of high doses of B. dracunculifolia extract, we evaluated the mutagenic potential of high doses of this plant extract in vivo on peripheral blood cells of Swiss mice using the comet assay and the micronucleus test. The extract was administered by gavage at doses of 1000, 1500 and 2000 mg/kg body weight. Peripheral blood cell samples were collected 4 and 24 h after treatment for the comet assay (genotoxicity assay), and at 48 and 72 h for the micronucleus test (clastogenicity assay). The B. dracunculifolia extract was devoid of clastogenic/genotoxic activity at all doses. A aplicação de calcário, na superfície do solo, é necessária em algumas situações agrícolas. O objetivo desse trabalho foi verificar alterações em atributos químicos de um solo de textura média, em razão da aplicação de calcário na superfície ou incorporado. O experimento foi conduzido em condições de laboratório, em colunas de PVC, delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 2 x 4 e uma testemunha, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram na combinação de duas doses de calcário (4 e 2 t ha-1) e 4 formas de aplicação do corretivo (aplicado na superfície, sem incorporação, e calcário incorporado nas profundidades de 0 a 5; 0 a 10 e 0 a 20 cm), além da testemunha em que não foi feita a calagem. Após 326 dias de incubação do solo com o calcário, houve efeito corretivo do calcário até 5 ou 10 cm abaixo da profundidade em que foi feita a sua aplicação ou incorporação. A aplicação de calcário, na superfície, resultou em aumento da saturação por bases do solo até 10 cm de profundidade, e até 40 cm de profundidade, quando o calcário foi incorporado nas camadas de 0 a 5, 0 a 10 ou 0 a 20 cm de profundidade. The application of lime on the soil surface is necessary in some agricultural situations. The objective of this work was to verify changes in chemical attributes of a medium texture soil as a result of lime application with and without amending. The experiment was carried out in a laboratory setting, in PVC columns, in a completely randomized design, with a 2 x 4 factorial design and a control, with four replicates, totaling 36 columns. The treatments were the combination of two lime rates (4 and 2 t ha-1) and four types of lime application (on surface without amending, and amending in layers of 0 to 5; 0 to 10 and 0 to 20 cm depths), in addition to the control, to which lime was not applied. After 326 days of soil incubation with lime, there was a corrective effect from the lime until 5 cm or 10 cm below the depth in which there was the application or amending. The application of lime resulted in increases of soil base saturation until 10 cm of depth, and until 40 cm of depth when the lime was amended in the layers of 0 to 5, 0 to 10 or 0 to 20 cm depth.
