Work participation is a goal of rehabilitation for patients at working age and has been vigorously advocated by stakeholders in and beyond the health sector. This project will study whether work ability and work status indeed do change following rehabilitation. The study is one of three work packages in a large longitudinal multicenter study (the RehabNytte study) where ≈4000 participants with different diagnoses were included at 17 rehabilitation centers across Norway and followed for one year. Linkage to register data from the Norwegian Welfare and Labour administration (NAV) for the year before and after rehabilitation enables us to identify trajectories and prognostic factors for change in work- and benefit status over time, and the rehabilitation group will also be compared to a matched control group of sick-listed patients that is drawn from register data. The follow up period, partly before and partly during the COVID-19 pandemic, also provides an opportunity to study its influence on return to work after rehabilitation.
