The purpose of this research is to examine the relationships between psychosocial variables and psychological manifestations through canonical correlation analysis, a multivariate analysis technique. Analyzes were conducted on the psychosocial variables and psychological symptom levels of the students. Canonical correlation method was used in the analysis of the data. The first set (sex, department preference order, class level, f4 department satisfaction level, university satisfaction level, request to change department, order of birth, form of marriage, previous psychological help, request for psychological help, eating habits, having chronic illness, suicide, having harmful habits) was found to disclose the second set (somatization, obsessive-compulsive disorder, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoid thought, psychotic, guilt, insomnia and appetite) at 75%.

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of internet parental style on cyberbullying and cyber victimization of high school students and the relationship between big five personality traits, cyber bullying and cyber victimization. In accordance with this aim, 467 students studying in various high schools in Sakarya in autumn semester of 2014-2015 education year were selected as sample. 244 (52.1%) of the students are males, 223 (47.8%) of them are females. Cyber Bully/Victim Questionnaire, Internet Parental Style Scale and Big Five Personality Inventory were used as data collecting instruments in the research. In the research cyber bullying and cyber victimization were selected as dependent variables, big five personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness), internet parental style (parental control and parental warmth), gender and age variables were considered as predictive variables. To examining these relationships regression analysis was conducted. As a result of regression analysis agreeableness, parental control and gender were found as the predictors of cyber bullying. Second result of regression analysis showed that, gender and parental control were found as predictors of cyber victimization. The findings were discussed in the light of related literature.

This research aimed to examine the relationship between adolescents’ subjective well-being and parenting style and smartphone addiction by several variables. The research population was composed of high school students studying in Kocaeli province in the academic year of 2017-2018. The sample was composed of 671 adolescents attending 6 different high schools which were randomly chosen out of this population. 313 (46.6%) of the participants are female, 358 (53.4%) of them are male. It was found in the research that participants’ smartphone addiction levels did not differ statistically and significantly by gender, whether parents were together or divorced, and parental income. A negative significant relationship was found between academic achievement and smartphone addiction. According to the analysis results, as the smartphone usage duration extended, smartphone addiction level increased. The results of the analysis conducted to determine whether smartphone addiction was predicted by adolescents’ subjective well-beings and the parenting styles (acceptance/involvement , psychological autonomy and strictness/supervision) showed that all variables other than parental acceptance were negative significant predictors of smartphone addiction. It was concluded that subjective well-being was the most important predictor of smartphone addiction.

This study looks into the relationship between nomophobia and loneliness, and the effects of smartphone and mobile internet use among adolescents. A total of 301 adolescents were employed for the study and the data were collected via Nomophobia (NMP-Q) and UCLA Loneliness Short-Form (ULS-8) Scales. The study was conducted in a relational survey model using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and linear regression. According to the findings the levels of nomophobic behaviors of adolescents were at a moderate level. While there was not a statistically significant correlation in terms of the duration of smartphone ownership and monthly mobile internet GSM quota, a significant difference was found in terms of the duration of mobile internet ownership, the duration of daily mobile internet use, and daily smartphone checking time. Finally, there was a statistically significant relationship between nomophobia and loneliness, and it can be ascertained that loneliness of adolescents predicts their nomophobia levels to a certain extent.

Kişilerin diğer kişilerden nasıl farklılaştığını belirlemek psikolojinin önemli ilgi alanlarından birini oluşturmaktadır. Bireyleri diğer bireylerden farklı kılan ayırıcı özelliği onun kişiliğini oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, beş temel kişilik özelliğini ölçen “Rammstedt ve John (2007) tarafından geliştirilen on maddelik kişilik ölçeğini Türk kültürüne uyarlamaktır. Araştırma, çeviri geri çeviri, dilsel eşdeğerlik ve geçerlik-güvenirlik çalışmaları için üç farklı grupla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Birinci çalışma grubuna çeviri geri çeviri aşamasında kişilik yapıları alanında çalışması bulunan ve İngilizceye hakim olan psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik alanında uzman olan 4 öğretim elemanı seçilmiştir. İkinci çalışma grubu dilsel eşdeğerlik için İngilizce öğretmenliği alanında öğrenim gören 31 öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Üçüncü çalışma grubunda ölçeğin faktöriyel ve yapı geçerliği ile ilgili analizleri yapabilmek için belirlenen 218 lise öğrencisi yer almıştır. Ölçeğin dilsel eşdeğerlik çalışmasından elde edilen bulgular, Türkçe ve İngilizce orijinal form arasındaki korelasyonun oldukça yüksek olduğunu göstermiştir. Ölçeğin açımlayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizi sonuçları, yapı geçerliliğine yönelik sonuçlar ve ölçeğin güvenirliğine yönelik elde edilen bulgular ölçeğin Türk kültüründe güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğunu göstermiştir., Determining how people differ from each other is form one of important point of interest in psychology. The distinctive feature of individuals, which makes them different from other individuals, constitutes its personality. The aim of this study is to adapt the big five personality traits scale to Turkish culture developed by Rammstedt and John (2007) to measures big five personality traits. The research was conducted with three different groups for translation and back translation, linguistic equivalence, and validity-reliability studies. In first study, translation and back translation stage, four expert teaching staffs from department of counseling and guidance who are good at English and have studied on personality were selected. The second study involved 31 students studying English language teaching for linguistic equivalence. For third study, 208 high school students were selected to analyze the factorial and construct validity of the scale. The findings obtained from the linguistic equivalence study of the scale showed that the Turkish and English original forms of the scale were highly correlated. The results of the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, construct validity, and the reliability of the scale showed that the scale is a reliable measurement tool in Turkish culture.

In accordance with the needs of today's computers, mobile phones and internet use became widespread transport very quickly. Not just because of the computer to the Internet has become a common need, the mobile phone provides easy access to the internet as well as other technological tools. Negative results can be seen with the facilities provided by the technology. Adverse events in the use of technology among students have led to cyber bullying. Cyber bullying, using the internet and other digital technologies to harm others can be defined as the conscious and deliberate. In this study, primary school students are exposed to cyber bullying investigated the relationship between psychological symptoms. The sample of this study consists of totally 407 students (192 female, 215 male), attending elementary schools in the second period of 2011-2012 academic year in Sakarya, Turkey. The data were collected as a Virtual Bully/Victim Questionnaire, and the Brief Symptom Inventory. Results indicated that there is a moderate positive correlation between the level of exposure to virtual bullying and psychoticism.

Bilgi ve iletişim teknolojileri öğrenciler tarafından amacı dışında birbirlerine zarar vermek amacıyla ortaya çıkan sanal zorbalık olayları günümüzde önemli bir sorun haline geldiği görülmektedir. Okullarda öğrenciler arasında yaşanan bu olaylar öğrencileri akademik, psikolojik ve sosyal açıdan olumsuz şekilde etkilemektedir. Öğrenciler sanal zorbalık olaylarıyla baş edebilmek için farklı yöntem ve teknikler kullanabilmektedirler. Okullarda yaşanan bu tür olaylarla öğrencilerin nasıl baş etiklerini tespit etmek amacıyla bu ölçek geliştirme çalışması yapılmıştır. Araştırmada veriler açımlayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör çalışmalar için farklı liselerde eğitim öğretim faaliyetlerini sürdüren iki gruptan toplanmıştır. Açımlayıcı faktör için veriler Sakarya ili merkezinde yer alan farklı liselerde öğrenim gören 264 öğrencinin 140’ı dokuzuncu sınıf öğrencisinden (%53) ve 124’ü (%47) on birinci sınıf öğrencilerinden oluşmuştur. Katılımcılardan 129’u (%48,9) kız, 135’i (%51,1) erkektir. İkinci çalışmada doğrulayıcı faktör analizi için Sakarya ili merkezinde yer alan farklı liselerde öğrenim gören 277 öğrenciden veriler toplanmıştır. Öğrencilerin 135’i (%48.7) dokuzuncu sınıf ve 142’si (%51.3) onuncu sınıf öğrencisidir. Bu katılımcılardan 136’sı (%49.1) kız, 141’i (%50.9) erkektir. Öğrenciler 15 ile 18 yaş arasındadır. Ölçek geliştirme sürecinde öncelikle sanal zorbalıkla baş etmeyle ilgili alan yazın incelenerek madde havuzu oluşturulmuştur. Oluşan madde havuzuyla ilgili uzman görüşleri doğrultusunda ölçekte gerekli düzeltmeler yapıldıktan sonra ölçek hedef kitleye uygulanarak ölçeğin faktöriyel ve yapı geçerlikleri ile güvenirlik analizleri yapılmıştır. Ölçeğin analizlerinde faktöriyel geçerlik için açımlayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizi, yapı geçerliği için yakınsama ve ayırt edici geçerlik ve güvenirlik içinse Cronbach alfa iç tutarlılık ve kompozit güvenirlik katsayılarına bakılmıştır. Yapılan bu işlemler sonucunda 19 madde ve 4 faktörden oluşan geçerli ve güvenilir bir sanal zorbalıkla baş etme ölçeği elde edilmiştir, It is seen that cyberbullying and cyber victimization have become important problems nowadays because students misuse the information and communication technologies to harm each other. Such events experienced between students at the school have negative effects on academic, psychological and social performance of students. Students may use different methods and techniques to cope with cyberbullying. This study is designed to develop a scale for identifying the coping strategies of students. Confirmatory factor analysis and exploratory factor analysis were applied to the data in the research. 264 high school students from Sakarya participated in the study for exploratory factor analysis. 140 of them were attending at the ninth grade (53%) and 14 of them were the 11th-grade students. 129 of the participants (48,9%) were female and 135 of them (51,1%) were male. 277 high school students from Sakarya participated in the second study for confirmatory factor analysis. 135 (48.7%) of the students were studying in the ninth grade while 142 (51.3%) of them were in 10th grade. 136 (49.1%) of the students were female, 141 (50.9%) of them were male. The ages of the students varied between 15 and 18. During the process of the scale development, first of all, the literature related to the strategies of coping with cyber bullying was reviewed and an item pool was created. Scale was corrected according to expert views, and then, construct validity, factor analysis and reliability analysis were applied. Confirmatory factor analysis and exploratory factor analysis were applied for factorial validity. Moreover, convergence was used for construct validity and Cronbach Alpha and composite reliability coefficient were utilized for distinguishing validity and reliability. Finally, a valid and reliable scale of coping with cyber bullying that has 19 items and 4 factors was developed.

The aim of this research is to examine the effect of parental attitudes on bullying and victimizing levels of secondary school students. In order to determine the victim and bully levels of the students in this research, “Determination of Peer Bullying Scale – Adolescent Form” developed by Ayas and Piskin (2007) was used. In order to determine the attitudes of parents, “Parental Attitude Scale” adapted into Turkish by Yilmaz (2000) was used. The study group of the research consists of 300 students studying in three different secondary education schools which are a Science high school (n=107), a general high school (n=97) and a teacher high school (n=96) in province of Bilecik in second term of 2010-2011 education year. 157 of these students are female and 143 are male students. The schools and the students in these schools were selected with the random method. When the research results are examined, the level of being subject bullied does not significantly change according to parental attitudes. It was found that the children of families with negligent parental attitudes are bullied more than those of families with Permissive and democratic parental attitudes. Similarly, the mean score of exhibiting bullying behaviors does not show a significant difference according to parental attitudes. It was found that the children of families with negligent parental attitudes exhibit more bullying behaviors than those of families with Permissive and democratic parental attitudes.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinin internet ve oyun bağımlılıklarının cinsiyet, sınıf, evinde bilgisayar ve internet bağlantısı olma ve tercih edilen oyun şekli değişkenlerine göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini ortaya koymaktır. Araştırmanın örneklemini, Ankara Üniversitesi Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi ve Gazi Üniversitesi’nin Eğitim Fakültesi’nde öğrenim gören 996 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda erkek öğrencilerin internet ve bilgisayar oyunu bağımlılığının kızlara göre daha yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin öğrenim gördükleri sınıflara ve tercih ettikleri oyun türüne göre internet ve bilgisayar oyun bağımlılığı açısından anlamlı farklılık olmadığı bulunmuştur. İnternet ve bilgisayar oyun bağımlılığı puanları ile bilgisayar ve internet bağlantısına sahibi olma arasında anlamlı bir ilişkinin olduğu belirlenmiştir., The purpose of this study was to investigate whether internet and game addiction of university students differ in regard to variables such as gender, grade, having computer and internet connection and game type which they prefer. The sample of this study consists of 996 students from Faculty of Educational Science at Ankara University and Education Faculty at Gazi University. In terms of gender variable, male students’ internet and computer game addiction levels were significantly higher than females. It was found that there was no significant difference between internet and computer game addiction levels in terms of students’ grade and game type variables. Students who have personal computers showed significantly higher levels of addiction to internet and computer game than those who don’t have personal computers.The students who have internet connection showed significantly higher levels of addiction to internet and computer game than those who don’t have internet connection in their homes

Objective: Violence in cyberspace as the use of information and communication tools outside of its purpose is called cyber bullying. Cyber victimization, which is common in middle school and high school years, can cause academic, social, psychological and physiological problems in adolescents. Adult support is crucial in coping with cyberbullying. Especially teachers can have an important role to coping. The coping strategies that will be used by the teachers will be effective in preventing and reducing cyberbullying. This scale was developed to determine the strategies of coping with the cyberbullying faced by teacher’s students. Methods: Since the research was a scale development study, the quantitative survey model was used. The main study was conducted on 328 teachers. Two hundred and six participants were female (62,8%), 122 were male (37,2%). Results: The item pool of the scale was created by examining the related literature and similar measurement tools. For the item pool, expert opinions were firstly taken into consideration, the content validity was examined, and necessary corrections were made. Then the pre-pilot study was carried out on 25 teachers and a number of corrections were made as a result of the study. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed for the validity of the study, and Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient for reliability and item total correlation was examined. Discussion: The results of the analyzes revealed that the scale consisted of 18 items and three dimensions. When evaluated in general, it can be said that the measurements made on the scale are valid and reliable.

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between parental style and internet parental style and find out whether student's parental style and parental internet style differ according to various variables. In this study, survey model was used. The study was performed with 296 students, attending at an elementary school in the second period of 2011-2012 academic years in Sakarya, Turkey. Parental style and parental internet style scales were used. Results indicated that there is a significant relationship between students' parental style and their family's parental internet style. It was also found that students' gender is a significant variable in their parental style and parental internet style. Moreover, it was determined that there is a significant relationship between students' family's parental internet style and their grade at school. Internet that adds the differences to the lives of the people from day it entered into the life of mankind and will continue to add these differences in the next years, causes the emergence of some negative effects when it is used except its intended purpose. Internet addiction is regarded as one of these drawbacks. This study examines the relationship between internet addiction and personality traits of high school students. Participants consist of 927 students (female= 440, 47.5%; male= 487, 52.5%) from various high schools in the provincial center of İstanbul. The ages of the students vary from 14 to 18 and the majority of them are 16 years old. The results of this study, which is realized to analyze the relationship between internet addiction and personal traits, indicate that personality traits such as extraversion and openness were negatively low level related to internet addiction whereas conscientiousness was positively low level associated. When the variables of personality traits are considered as whole, it can be observed that a low level and positive significant relationship (R= .22, p< .01) reveals between internet addiction and personality traits. Özetİnternet insanoğlunun hayatına girdiği günden itibaren insanların hayatına farklılıklar katmış ve bundan sonraki süreçte de katmaya devam edecek gibi görünmektedir. Ancak internetin amacı dışında kullanılması bireyin günlük hayatını olumsuz şekilde etkileyen bazı aksaklıkların ortaya çıkmasına neden olmaktadır. Bu olumsuzluklardan biri de internet bağımlılığı olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Bu araştırmada lise öğrencilerinin internet bağımlılık düzeyinin kişilik özellikleriyle olan ilişkisinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcıları İstanbul il merkezinde yer alan farklı liselerde öğrenim gören 927 öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Katılımcıların 440’ı (%47.5) bayan, 487’si (%52.5) erkektir. Öğrenciler 14 ile 18 yaşları arasında ve çoğunluğu 16 yaşındadır. İnternet bağımlılık düzeyinin kişilik özellikleriyle ilişkisini incelemek amacıyla yapılan bu çalışmada internet bağımlılık düzeyinin kişilik özelliklerine göre farklılaştığı tespit edilmiştir. İnternet bağımlılık düzeyinin dışadönüklük kişilik özelliğiyle düşük düzeyde negatif ilişkili, özdenetim kişilik özelliği ile düşük düzeyde pozitif ilişkili ve yeniliğe açıklık kişilik özelliği ile düşük düzeyde negatif ilişkili olduğu görülmektedir. Kişilik özellikleri değişkenleri birlikte ele alındığında internet bağımlılığı ile pozitif, düşük düzeyde ve anlamlı ilişkili olduğu görülmektedir (R= .22, p< .01).

Seven hundred and forty-one adolescents from Turkey responded to questionnaires on these topics. We found that computer game addiction, computer game usage time, and chronotype were related with each other. Evening-oriented, younger, and male students had higher computer game addiction scores than morning-oriented, older, and female students. Furthermore, extraverted and agreeable students reported lower computer game addiction. No significant relationship was observed between students’ computer game addiction scores and openness to experience, conscientiousness.
