These committees and organisations believe that social security is critical to the economy's health. This is the time for a thorough examination of these projects. Social insurance has become a common practise in the modern world. Countries around the world have come to realise that industrial health is a direct result of a safe and supportive work environment.

Nanoremediation is an innovative branch of nanotechnology that employed promising sustainable remediation strategies to control pollution from contaminated sites. Bionanoremediation is an important way of remediation in which nanoparticles are biologically synthesized using plant parts or microbes. This is an effective solution to mitigate the challenge of environmental pollution. Diverse kinds of heavy metal substances and chemicals associated with agriculture can be removed from contaminated locations using nanoremediation. Various technologies have been used in environmental remediation such as adsorption, absorption, chemical reactions, photocatalysis and filtration for the removal of contaminants from the environment. The big surface area to volume ratio of nanoparticles leads to enhance reactivity. Nano-materials are also involved in cleanup of various pollutants from diverse environmental locations such as air, water and earth. The combination of nanoremediation with other bioremediation technology has proved to be a valuable tool for the elimination of pollutants, as their synergetic effect can raise the effectiveness of the applied process/technique used for environmental remediation. Hence, sustainability assessments of nanoremediation methods are also used with particular attention paid to the health and environmental consequences.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Asia and is emerging as the commonest female malignancy. Angiogenesis or neovascularization is important for the growth and spread of malignant tumors, and quantitative assessment of angiogenesis may prove valuable in prognostication. This study was undertaken to quantify and explore angiogenesis with immunohistochemistry with CD 34, CD 105, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), as well as morphometric analysis and correlate with the grades of the invasive breast carcinoma. METHODS: Angiogenesis was assessed by morphometry and immunohistochemistry. Seventy cases of invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and twenty-five benign cases as controls were included in the study. Morphometry was performed on the CD34 and CD105 (Endoglin) stained representative histologic sections with the use of a computerized digital photomicrograph system using image analyzing software. Morphometric analysis and evaluation of vascular parameters, i.e. microvessel density (MVD), microvessel caliber (VC), and total microvessel boundary density (TVBD), were calculated. Semiquantitative assessment of angiogenesis of VEGF-stained sections was done by scoring. Immunohistochemical staining was correlated with the histological grade of the tumors. MVD, mean VC, TVBD with their mean values, SD, and range were calculated using Statistical Package for The Social Sciences (Version 20). One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Tukey HSD was performed to assess the difference of the parameters for the groups. Spearman rank correlation coefficients ρ were calculated. RESULTS: The vascular parameters were significantly more in malignant lesions as compared to benign lesions and showed differences with increasing grade. Grades of breast carcinoma showed a mild positive correlation with VEGF (ρ = 0.467), MVD-CD34 (ρ = 0.422) and VC-CD34 (ρ = 0.482); and moderate positive correlation with TVBD-CD34 (ρ = 0.615), VC-CD105 (ρ = 0.527), and TVBD-CD105 (ρ = 0.354). When these parameters were compared with each other for all four groups, VEGF showed a mild positive correlation with MVD-CD34 (ρ = 0.295), TVBD-CD34 (ρ = 0.339), and TVBD-CD105 ((ρ = 0.277). MVD-CD105 showed a mild positive correlation with MVD-CD34 TVBD-CD105 also showed a strong positive correlation with MVD-CD34. VC-CD105 showed a moderate positive correlation with VC-CD34. CD 105 stained fewer but larger caliber vessels. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, vascular parameters showed significant differences in three grades of IDC with CD34. Differences were seen in vascular parameters stained with CD105 in three grades of IDC. Expression of VEGF also showed significant differences with positive correlations in the three grades of IDC. CD34 highlighted both old and newly formed microvessels. CD 105 stained fewer but larger caliber microvessels. VC-CD105 can be an extremely useful adjunct along with VEGF and CD34 to study angiogenesis of vessels in IDC.

The present study revealed the synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles by wet chemical co-precipitation process and were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Vis spectroscopy, and photocatalysis for Methylene Blue (MB) dye degradation. The crystallite size of the ZnO nanoparticles calculated from XRD using Debye Scherrer Formula is 36.27 nm. The size variation of the ZnO nanoparticles is due to the difference in annealing temperature and precursors. The FTIR spectra confirms the formation of ZnO nanoparticle. From UV-Vis spectra of ZnO nanoparticles, the absorption peak is at 380 nm and decreases with time which shows the dye degradation. MB dye degradation efficiency by ZnO nanoparticle is 91.78% in 21 minutes.

Media is an integral part of any society. In modern societies where it has grown so much, it becomes very important to pay attention to the role of media in constructing the social. This article discusses how the role of press in establishing the hegemony of the modern-industrial west works through the politics of news, establishing the hierarchies in the politics of knowledge in general and therefore also in the project of development. It argues that in post-colonial societies, the latter includes a process of marginalization of already existing knowledge systems, for long and more commonly referred to as ‘traditional knowledges’. Exploring initiatives in creating counters to mainstream media, the article also invites a problematization of the category of ‘alternative media’ as a true alternative presenting peoples’ perspectives on development.

The synthesis of a novel multicomponent perovskite was carried out by substituting 5 cations in the A-site of BaTiO3 lattice. The mechanochemical synthesis involved 5 h of ball milling followed by annealing at 800 °C for 2 h and the compound was sintered at 1200 °C for 2 h to form the cubic perovskite phase adopting the P m 3 ¯ m space group. The lattice parameter was found to be 0.391 nm. The reduction in the tetragonality and the local distortion in the compound were observed in the 2D charge distribution maps. The band gap of the compound was found to be 2.94 eV with a dielectric constant value of 270. Ferroelectric hysteresis loops were recorded and the leakage current density was found to be in the order of 10−5 A/cm2.

Heliotropium indicum Linn. (syn. Tiaridium indicum) is a widespread plant that grows like a weed and is commonly termed as ‘Hatisundu’ (Family: Heliotropiaceae, Subfamily: Boraginaceae). The plant is endogenous to Southern America and has been naturalized in North America, Africa, Asia and Australia. It is utilized worldwide owing to its ethnomedical significance. The folklore uses of the plant include uterine stimulant, antifertility, diuretic agent and many more. The widespread literature studies reveal that the plant possesses varied pharmacological activities including antimicrobial, antinociceptive, anti-ulcer, anti-glaucoma, anti-tuberculosis, and anti-plasmodial and wound healing. The wild occurrence of this species worldwide provides an opportunity to utilize this plant to paramount levels in treating diverse ailments. This review attempts to provide a comprehensive account of phytochemicals present in the different parts of the plant which are in turn responsible for its therapeutic potential.

Cis and trans-interactions among cadherins secure multicellularity. While the molecular structure of trans-interactions of cadherins is well understood, work to identify the molecular cues that spread the cis-interactions two-dimensionally is still ongoing. Here, we report that transient, weak, yet multivalent, and spatially distributed hydrophobic interactions that are involved in liquid-liquid phase separations of biomolecules in solution, alone can drive the lateral-clustering of cadherin-23 on a membrane. No specific cis-dimer interactions are required for the lateral clustering. In cells, the cis-clustering accelerates cell-cell adhesion and, thus, contributes to cell-adhesion kinetics along with strengthening the junction. Although the physiological connection of cis-clustering with rapid adhesion is yet to be explored, we speculate that the over-expression of cadherin-23 in M2-macrophages may facilitate faster attachments to circulatory tumor cells during metastasis.

In the lyotropic phase of lipids with excess water, multilamellar tubules (MLTs) grow from defects. A phenomenological model for the stability of MLTs is developed that is universal and independent of the underlying growth mechanisms of MLTs. The stability of MLTs implies that they are in hydrostatic equilibrium and stable as elastic objects that have compression and bending elasticity. The results show that even with 0.1 atm solvent pressure differences, the density profile is not significantly altered, thus determining that the stability is due to the trapped solvent. The results are of sufficient value in relation to lamellar stability models and may have implications beyond the described MLT models, especially in other models of membrane systems.

The catalytic action of invertase generates bilayer asymmetry that stabilises membrane curvature. The driving mechanism for the generation of membrane curvature by invertase is investigated using giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs). The invertase cleaves the sucrose in the exterior compartment, thereby creating a sugar asymmetry across the bilayer membrane that is measured for GUV membranes consisting of the lipid Dioleoylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC). Finally, the advantage of this method to control membrane curvature and to stabilize multi-sphere morphologies is demonstrated. The GUV system in the presence of invertase is beneficial as a tool to generate multiple on-demand compartments with more extended stability after the enzymatic activity has established the asymmetry.

Poster session 2, September 22, 2022, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM Objectives Neonatal Candidaemia causes significant morbidity and mortality in very low birth weight neonates. We report the occurrence of an outbreak of neonatal Candidaemia due to Candida krusei in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a 300-bedded hospital in North India. Methods A total of 96 blood cultures from 80 neonates admitted in the NICU from October 2020 to April 2021 were received and processed manually in the Microbiology lab. A total of 5 among the 47 yeast isolates were sent to a teaching hospital for identification and antifungal susceptibility testing by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF). Clinical parameters (very low birth weight, gestational age, birth asphyxia, broad-spectrum antimicrobial therapy, intra-uterine growth restriction, and total parenteral nutrition), lab parameters (CRP, platelet count), and patient outcome were evaluated. A total of 26 environmental samples and hand swabs from six health care workers were collected to trace the source of the outbreak. The samples were inoculated on 5% sheep blood agar and MacConkey agar. Regular rounds of the NICU and training sessions were conducted by the infection control team to intensify the infection control measures. Results Blood culture results: In all, 57 neonates (71.25%; 57/80) admitted to the NICU had positive blood cultures. A total of 47 blood cultures yielded non-albicans Candida spp. (82.45%; 47/57). The other microorganisms isolated from blood cultures were Pseudomonas aeruginosa (4), MRSA (3), Klebsiella pneumoniae (4) and Acinetobacter baumanni (1). Polymicrobial bloodstream infections were detected in two neonates. All the yeast isolates subjected to MALDI-TOF were identified as Candida krusei and had similar MICs of 0.25, 4, 16, 1, 0.25 and 16 μg/ml for voriconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, caspofungin, micafungin and fluconazole respectively. Culture results of environmental sampling: Yeast could not be isolated from any environmental sample and hand swabs of health care workers. However, MRSA was isolated from the hands of one health care worker. Observation during the infection control rounds: Conclusion We report the occurrence of a massive outbreak of neonatal Candidaemia in the NICU of our hospital with a positivity rate of 58.75% (47/80). Identification of yeast and determination of antifungal susceptibility is important for prompt treatment. Though the source of the outbreak could not be traced but intensifying infection control practices could control the outbreak. This study emphasizes the value of educating healthcare workers and regular monitoring of disinfection practices to prevent health-care-associated infections.

Tip-link, the gating-spring in hearing, modulates the mechanoelectrotransduction process and protects the hearing sensory machineries from overexcited auditory inputs. Tip-links are formed by two exceptionally long cadherins, cadherin-23 and protocadherin-15. It is proposed that both the cadherins first independently form cis-dimers through lateral interactions and finally, engage in trans-interactions to form the heterotetrameric assembly in tip-links. In fact, the molecular details of the protocadherin cis-dimers are well-understood. However, little structural and molecular details are known for independent cis-dimer of cadherin-23. Using photo-induced cross-linking of unmodified proteins in solution and on lipid-membranes, we observed no trace of cadherin-23 cis-dimers, rather we captured trans-homodimers of cadherin-23. We thus, redefine the tip-link structure where protocadherin-15 remains as cis-dimers, however, two individual cadherin-23 binds to protocadherin-15 cis-dimer for tip linking.

In recent times, improvement in building designs has been on a steady upward trend, precipitated by large greenhouse gas emissions of energy draining outmoded construction materials. Global energy crisis exacerbated by climate change has motivated the design and construction of energy-efficient Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB). This paper proposes an energy management strategy for grid-connected Net Zero Energy Buildings that help to achieve a net zero balance of energy in Electrical Grid Photovoltaic-connected NZEB homes. The significance of NZEB was evaluated by providing insights into cost-savings for the consumer’s net energy consumption and reduced carbon footprint. The proffered energy management strategy uses a single-objective Differential Evolution (DE) optimization algorithm that prunes the demand for electrical energy through an efficacious appliance scheduling routine. A novel mathematical energy index is introduced that enables consumers to monitor the net energy imported from the electrical grid and maintain a zero energy index. The proposed net zero energy concept is validated using DE and Genetic Algorithm (GA)-based optimization techniques.

Menin is an epigenetic regulatory protein that plays a key role in beta-cell proliferation and function, as previously demonstrated though increased beta-cell mass generation in Men1 knockout mice (Ja et al., 2021;13 (5) :e13524) . Here, we demonstrate the marked potential of an oral menin inhibitor, BMF-219, in durable glycemic control following a short course treatment in a Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) Zucker Diabetic Fatty Rat model. Rats were treated daily with BMF-219, liraglutide or vehicle for 28 days and monitored for an additional 28 days post-treatment. All animals tolerated BMF-219 well throughout the study. Notably, BMF-219 treatment resulted in a significant reduction in HbA1C at Day 21, which reached 3.5% absolute reduction in HbA1C versus vehicle, compared to liraglutide (1.7% reduction) at Day 29 and remained reduced throughout the entire study, including post-treatment. The high-dose arm of BMF-219 showed a strong reduction in 4-hour fasting blood glucose during the treatment up to Day 29. Both BMF-219 dose groups showed improved glycemic control by oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) on day 25, in contrast to vehicle and liraglutide-treated animals. Additionally, insulin levels, HOMA-IR, HOMA-B, OGTT, HbA1C, and C-peptide levels measured at Day 57 across all groups will be reported. Collectively, these data demonstrate the novel long-acting potential of BMF-219 as an oral treatment for T2DM, in maintaining glycemic control after short-term dosing. Disclosure P. Introduction: Fistula in ano is a common anorectal disorder requiring surgical intervention. It is associated with high recurrence rate and post-operative complications. In this study we have analysed and compare results of a newer technique for low anal fistula SLOFT with conventional Fistulectomy. Aims and Objective: To compare Submucosal Ligation of Fistula Tract (SLOFT) with conventional fistulectomy in patients of low anal fistula by analysing various intra-operative factors and post-operative outcome. Materials and Methods: An interventional study carried out at Santosh Medical College and Hospitals, Ghaziabad from January 2017 to October 2018. This study included 60 Patients of low anal fistula which were divided into two groups of 30 patients each. Group I was offered Conventional Fistulectomy & Group II underwent SLOFT. Result and Observations: Fistula in ano is commonly seen in middle aged males. There is no significant difference in duration of surgery between SLOFT and Fistulectomy. However post-operative complications, pain (measured by VAS scoring system), wound healing and early return to work was significantly better in patients who underwent SLOFT. Conclusion: SLOFT has significant advantage over convention fistulectomy in terms of post-operative pain, wound healing, early return to work and cosmetic outcome. Full-duplex cognitive radio (CR) is a promising technology for upcoming 5G wireless communication systems. This paper presents a robust fast Fourier transform (FFT) based multiband spectrum sensing using two-dimensional averaging algorithms in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems in full-duplex CR networks with residual self interference under Rayleigh flat fading scenario. In the proposed algorithm, we have used modified Daniell windowing technique both in time and frequency dimensions to smoothen the FFT spectrum under full-duplex scenario. The analytical expressions for the performance metrics are derived for the aforementioned algorithm. The simulated and analytical results, obtained for the proposed algorithm using modified Daniell windowing technique are found in good agreement. Finally, the comparison studies between the proposed scheme using modified Daniel windowing technique and the conventional rectangular windowing scheme clearly depict that the proposed scheme gives optimal performance even at low SNR using fewer filter lengths in time and frequency dimensions as the modified Daniell windowing algorithm is less influenced due to spectral leakage.

The present study deals with the assessment of the spatial distribution of PM2.5 over a decade in Jharkhand state of eastern India, which is a prominent site for mining and industries. Since there are very few monitoring stations on the ground to monitor the air quality of the entire state, satellite data have been utilised. The study period is from the year 2005 to 2016. The selection of the study period is based on the availability of satellite as well as ground station data. Multiple linear regression and geographically weighted regression (GWR) model was employed to predict the concentration of PM2.5 spatially, and the results were compared with the help of Akaike information criterion to identify the better representative model. Results showed that the GWR model performed better in predicting the spatial distribution of PM2.5. PM2.5 concentration of this state exceeds the permissible limit set by the world health organisation. The north-eastern districts of the state (29.36% of the total area) had exceeded even the Indian national ambient air quality standard. The identification of the possible reasons for high concentration was made through visual examination of satellite imageries over the study period. Also, possible health effects were discussed.

The effect of Al addition to CoFeMnNi on the phase evolution and magnetic properties was studied for vacuum arc-melted AlxCoFeMnNi (x = 0, 0.3, 0.7, 1) alloys. These alloys were subsequently homogenized at 1050° C for 50 h and water quenched. The CoFeMnNi and Al0.3CoFeMnNi alloys showed single-phase FCC in as-cast and homogenized conditions. The Al0.7CoFeMnNi alloy showed BCC + FCC phases in as-cast condition, and the phase fraction of FCC phase increased upon homogenization. The AlCoFeMnNi alloy had B2 phase in as-cast condition and had BCC + FCC phases after homogenization. Scheil simulation was performed to predict the phase evolution during casting, and calculation of phase diagram (Calphad) approach was used to predict the phase evolution during homogenization. CoFeMnNi alloy was ferromagnetic in as-cast condition, whereas it exhibits spin or cluster glass behaviour after homogenization. The Al0.3CoFeMnNi alloy remained paramagnetic in both as-cast and homogenized condition. In Al0.7CoFeMnNi alloy, the saturation magnetization increased from 20 to 60 emu/g upon homogenization. In the as-cast alloys, AlCoFeMnNi had a maximum saturation magnetization of 126.2 emu/g, and upon homogenization, the saturation magnetization decreased to 94.3 emu/g due to the phase change associated with it. The BCC/B2 phase with equiatomic or near-equiatomic composition had a high saturation magnetization. The change in magnetic properties is correlated to the phase change associated with Al addition and homogenization.

Entropy stabilization was attempted through the addition of 5 different rare earth cations, 5 different transition metal cations and all these 10 cations in the form of three compounds based on NiFe2O4. Equiatomic ratios of these cations were used to maximize the entropy stabilization effect. The compounds attempted and investigated were NiFe1.9(Dy0.02Er0.02Gd0.02Ho0.02Tb0.02)O4, (Co0.2Cr0.2Fe0.2Mn0.2Ni0.2)Fe2O4 and (Co0.2Cr0.2Fe0.2Mn0.2Ni0.2)Fe1.9(Dy0.02Er0.02Gd0.02Ho0.02Tb0.02)O4. Synthesis of these compounds were carried out by sol–gel technique and all the compounds were found to crystallize in F d 3 ¯ m spinel structure indicating the entropy stabilization. An appropriate calculation of configurational entropy of mixing employing the sublattice model is demonstrated for such entropy stabilized oxides.

Introduction: Acute abdomen is a very common problem in emergency department. Aims and Objectives: This study aims to find out the clinical and epidemiology profile of acute abdominal pain among patients attending emergency department of Santosh Medical College Ghaziabad. Materials and Methods: A tertiary care hospital based, cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2018- April 2019 2018, among patients presenting with acute abdominal pain to Santosh Medical College Ghaziabad, India. Data was entered on a standard data collection sheet after obtaining a written informed consent. Results: Out of 1200 patients admitted via the Emergency Department at the Hospital, 200 (16.6%) were admitted with atraumatic acute abdominal pain. Out of 200, 120(60%) were due to Surgical causes and 80 due to non-surgical causes. Most consistent symptom and sign were pain abdomen and abdominal tenderness respectively. Acute cholecystitis was the most common etiology of acute abdominal pain (35.8% cases), followed by, Renal Stones (30.5%), Acute Appendicitis (17.5%) and Intestinal Obstruction (16.67%) respectively. Conclusion: About 16.60% of all emergency admissions were due to acute abdominal pain and about 60.0% of all atraumatic acute abdominal pain was due to surgical cause. Pedestrian static and dynamic characteristics have a great bearing on the quality of pedestrian facilities. The present study analyzes the effect of socio-demographic features on the pedestrian flow and crossing behavioral characteristics for the mixed traffic conditions at the signalized crosswalks. The data of 1000 pedestrians while crossing four signalized intersections were collected using videographic technique. The parametric variation in speed based on the gender, age-group, and the size of pedestrian group was also studied. The findings reveal that while crossing, males complied with the signals more than the females. In contrast, the study confirms that the crosswalk usability rate among females was more than the males. Further, strong association was found among various age-groups and group sizes of the pedestrians with respect to compliance with the traffic signal or adherence to the traffic rules. The crossing pattern preferred by young and middle-aged people was one-stage oblique crossing, whereas children and old-aged people preferred two-stage oblique crossing. These outcomes shall provide a strong base in the light of recent practices being adopted for designing pedestrian crossings at signalized crosswalks under mixed traffic conditions.
